As an HBCU student in the mid 80's I never understood the purpose of black frats other than for the popularity aspect of it. Anything these groups do in the community could easily be done without them. We are already segregated enough without doing it to ourselves.
Anthony, you possessed a strand of common sense that many of us did not have. God bless you with the courage to not be drawn to that lifestyle. Me...not so much. I was an HBCU student in the mid 80's, in the south, and the segregation thing was very real. I played football, was in ROTC, and was a member of a frat so my mindset was extraordinarily elitist and segregated...but God! I applaud you for not having gone down that path but I believe this forum was created for the thousands that remain entangled in idolatry.

What the ex alpha stated is totally correct. I. A black man that became a mason as a young man in college. It ran all through my family. But for some reason. I didn’t stay active in it. It was just something that kept me from it. I then pledged a white fraternity. Kappa sig. and during the ritual. I remember things being said from the Masonic ritual. It all stems from masonry.

I'm amazed that people place so much in fraternities. To be honest we place some of the same importance on denominations, jobs, relationships. There are a lot of things that we place before the Father. I'm glad they found peace in their decisions.
Because they do so much in the communities but if you are not in them doing the work then you wouldn't understand. Who is the father? Do you really know?

@rsmith2419 sorry but you misread. I'm a member of a fraternity and I know in every group people's individual values determine whether they place anything above God. There is no one size fits all. Do some make that mistake, absolutely.
@@rsmith317…you know…just because those acts of service are nice to do does not mean we can just ignore the rituals, the oaths, and the Greek gods represented by those organizations.
The root of it is idolatry. No matter what the intention is, no matter how much personal value a person does or does not place on their organization, it is automatic idol worship because the spirit behind the organization IS geeks gods/goddesses. That is what makes it wrong and ungodly.
I pray the scales are removed from your eyes and that God reveals to you what He needs to reveal so that you renounce and denounce in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
So true, You cannot enter into these organizations without being checked by the holy spirit, if you're of God. Crazy, because there are religious people, like ministers and religious leaders that pledge. I remember my initiation, i felt in my spirit that i should run out of there because it appeared like a cult (let your no be your no) but I stayed because i allowed my flesh to win.(rebellious) I always felt weird with that delta ritual stuff we did during process. It never felt right. Evictous was wrong. I never felt right to say Delta was captive. I always filled in the words "God is captive of my soul". The point is, my spirit told me is was not right, but i convinced myself it was christian based and that things would be different once i crossed. Even after crossing sands, i forced myself to be passionate about it but deep inside, I never accepted it in my heart. I rebelled against the greek rules, handshakes and parafenelia afterwhile. I have officially denounced and I am awaiting my withdraw. They are taking their good time, and i know why. But I have officially left and have zero ties. God led me to all the bad luck I acquired after joining this cult of abusive women.

That's why it's our responsibility as God's Chosen people to keep ministering the Good News of Jesus Christ so everyone will know. I agree when you say that not everyone will choose the same paths and that's okay. The Body of Christ has many working parts and we're all called by God and have certain assignments.

If you no longer want to be a member, return the organization's property, renounce and leave. None of these organizations worships Shaytan (the davil or Satan), but most here claim that they are satanic. If you have a concrete reason for leaving, perhaps you really didn't know much about the organization before you (general you) became a member.
I knew that the Alphas were scholarly (as others also claimed). But I liked how the Alphas carried themselves and the brotherly bond they had. I also knew that they partied. No surprises when I became an Alpha. And with the technology available to those in college after 1995, you're a few keyboard strokes, a point and a click away from all the information on your organization of interest. You don't even have to talk to the members of your local chapters anymore. This is the New School.

None of what these fraternities and sororities rituals are in the Bible and there is no greater bond between and amongst mankind than the bond and love shared with us and God. We cannot serve two masters. Personally I've never joined any group that pledges to greek idols and I'm overjoyed that my sister was denied entry into DST. Now even she has come to see the error of her ways in asking for it a couple of years ago. Hallelujah!

When I was in college God would not let me pledge a Greek letter organization no matter how much I wanted to. What the former member of Alpha Phi Alpha stated is totally on point at 7:30. I used to think that I was missing out but when I found out who I truly was as an individual and a man of the most high I was able to understand that my bond with him is the ultimate bond needed more than anything else in life. When I learned about the power of oaths and covenants as a man I was able to really thank God for shielding me as an undergrad at a PWU that looked at BGLA as something to aspire to

If you are joining a fraternity to just to belong or get some identity then you have bigger issues and should not seek a fraternity or any organization for that matter to fill the void. This is the problem with all those on this panel. They were looking to be made whole. That's not the purpose of a fraternity and because they did not get that they are giving false narratives of what it means to be a part of these great organizations that do great work in the community. They sound very bitter and using the Bible to mislead folks to believe they did it because it was the Christian thing to do which is totally BS.

I respect their opinions however I strongly disagree with the concept of the overall perspective of joining a fraternity. They are not designed to fill a void but to give of yourself. Churches can be cult-like as well and they pull the wool over your eyes better than anything, especially many of the megachurches, which can embrace many divisions and cliques, not teaching the inerrant word of God, preaching against sins to include homosexuality, abortion, fornication, adultery, shacking up, etc, political party loyalty... I love Jesus and the church is in me as God is in me. Concentrate on substance over superficial matters.

No matter how many good activities are done, it's self righteous and wicked and the root of it and the surface of it is of satan. I have to agree 100%. You join for your own reasons, not for others. There are many organizations and churches that are just as, whatever you want to say. There are church members in Masonic and preachers. There are churches getting rich and not giving money back to their community. I love God. I'm a Christian as well. But my eyes are open to everything and no just one side. So if you join any organization, join for you!! Just as church. We join the church we want. Dont join for others. JOIN FOR SELF!

There is no other God claiming that they are the creator of mankind and everything, stating no other God is greater than him, all other Gods are false and that he’s the ONLY true God.

There were religions prior to Christianity, who is to say that they're wrong or that God isn't working in them? The Christian Crusade went about to destroy othe religions and to make people follow their beliefs. Do you think God really tries to make you a believer? I believe when judgment day comes many Christians are going to be surprised about who is crossing through the pearlie gates.

God is using followers of Christ as messengers to tell you that HE said if you deny yourself (become selfless), accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, believe that he died so that we could live and follow his commandments, he will fulfill you with this energy called the Holy Spirit and you will receive eternal life (life on earth + life after death). Following Christ is about relationship not religion so let’s remove the religion points!
Why is that a bad offer?
God said I am the BEST solution to ALL problems, not the words of Christians or Christianity. If God is working through other religions, let their god or deities speak that and reveal it to me! That’s my ask.
If not, the standard of truth lies in God of the holy scriptures because of the scriptures I’ve given.
Give me scriptures or text from ANY religion or spiritual belief that says their god is the BEST solution to life on Earth and life after Earth, that they are the only true and living God and created mankind. I can’t follow a God that doesn’t claim to create me.
Humans are born into sin so yes I you are correct. Many lukewarm and so-called “Christians”, will be tossed in the lake of fire and brimstone at judgement day!
Matthew 7:21-23 says this about so called Christians:
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. I would like to see someone set up a debate between those who denounced their "former organization" and those still in their organizations.

You understand that this applies to every person in ALL positions in employment of local, state, & federal government positions from the President to the janitor, they all swear oaths to prior to hiring.
As a christian member of one of these organizations, the activities of hazing as referenced in this video have been denounced by most if not every organization in the Divine Nine. Yes, it still occurs of course just like corruption still occurs in the church. However, because that was their experience and their perspective on their own journey doesn’t make it reflective of the organization as a whole or mean that you are less of a Christian for being a member.
I will also add that some of these Bible verses are taken out of context, which is often a tactic used by cult leaders. I point that out bc he called the D9 a cult as if certain churches or christian organizations cannot be considered as such.
In regards to the Alpha prayer, it states “Oh, Lord, may the spirit of fraternity… control our lives, etc”. For those having a hard time with its meaning, consider replacing the word fraternity with brotherhood. Is not the spirit of brotherhood a spirit of love and support? The second commandment states to love your neighbor (brother) as yourself. As a Christian, I take that to be a prayer for the second commandment.
My overall point in sharing is, if you are here as a Christian and deciding to pursue membership in a greek organization consider both sides. What these gentleman stated in regards to their experience is valid. But again, that’s their experience. Base your decision on the purpose, mission and ideals of the organization first. If they align with your personal goals, seek out a chapter. If the chapter on your campus doesn’t align with your values or the values of the fraternity/sorority, you may want to wait to try for an alumni chapter. That is OK. As a Christian and a D9 Frater that is active in alumni chapter that regularly attends regional and National conventions and is active in church, take this video with a grain of salt. Evaluate your own motives and decide for yourself if joining a fraternity or sorority is right for you.

They are not speaking on truth but rather their own individual experiences, which is interesting. I am member of a Black letter Greek organization (represented in this clip) and never experienced anything he mentioned. My chapter was/is Christ centered with nothing mentioned to the contrary (deities). There were actual bible verses used to encourages us during our process. I say all of this to say, that none of the negative experiences discussed in this clip are condoned, publicly or privately, by any of the divine 9 organizations...but chapters have some autonomy and may have inserted their own ritualistic slant (which is unfortunate). Lastly, I want to address the use of the word 'divine' when used to describe the 9 Black Greek letter org. It is lazy exegetical work to somehow insinuate that the use of the word divine, in this context, has anything to do with God. Sure, one can easily make that leap but I still would call it lazy. Divine was used to describe these Black Greek letter orgs., not in a godly manner, but rather to hold them up as excellent/delightful. For example, we've all had a meal that we thought to be divine or met someone that had a divine smile.

I pray for my close friends. He's a pastor among other pastors I know who are proud active Greeks. And their wives are also. It has always puzzled me how they function in both worlds and are not wrestling with doing both. The spirit and the soul/body has to be wrestling. They miss services to attend Greek actives and me as a Christian and mbr of their church was really concerned and bothered. Also bringing Greek celebrations into the Holy sanctuary bothered me. I have to respectfully disagree with this. Everyone that is in my chapter are god fearing Christians, plus you were never forced to go through with any process. This is an interesting perspective. It forces me to think. The trauma bonding is still an issue for me. It’s an unhealthy way of building relationships and have long lama damage. The intentions of some of these folks gazing you is questionable also.
