That's not really fair. It's not like she just blew the situation off or made excuses. Witnesses said she was in a panic. She obviously cared very much for her son. It can happen even to the best parents, because there's no such thing as a perfect parent.
@@Falcon-um7vo Fair’s got nothing to do with it. There is the way it should be, and there is the way it is, and the space between is where children die.
@@dropkickirish4449 You're not getting my point. I'm saying it's not fair of you to imply she's a bad parent just based on this story. There is no such thing as a perfect parent, but just because a parent is imperfect doesn't make them bad. Now, if she showed no concern at all or this happened frequently, then your criticism would be more warranted.
@@Falcon-um7vo And you’re not getting my point. There are no grey areas here. That child’s safety isn’t the community’s responsibility, nor passing stranger’s responsibility, nor the responsibility of whomever manufactured that faulty gate. That responsibility resides with the parent, and the parent alone. She failed at being a good parent. I’m not saying she’s a bad person, just that she’s a woefully bad parent. I didn’t set the goal post here - or outline the objective scale representing degrees of severity - as to what’s considered to be a bad parent. What’s fair or unfair, and any emotional reasoning applied to this situation, is irrelevant. The sky is blue, the grass is green, and this kid’s mother is a bad parent. Can that be changed? Why sure it can. But only after exercising self-accountability and accepting that in that moment - and until consistency is established and solidified - she was, and is, a bad parent. Her kid didn’t fall off the see-saw. He walked out into moderately heavy traffic from no small distance as it relates to a toddler. How much time had passed before she realized he was not only out of her sight, and not only outside of the house, and not only outside of the yard, and not only outside of the neighborhood, but walking down a major thoroughfare like Bruce Banner at the end of each episode of “The Incredible Hulk?” That timer stopped not at her independently arriving at the realization that her child, her blood, that she alone is charged with protecting in this chaotic jungle of insane brutality, was missing. That timer stopped after he was brought home by other people who are not his mother, his protector. You applying a “that’s unfair” assessment not only mitigates her responsibility and accountability, but enables and reinforces this inattentive behavior in a blasé manner. You shouldn’t do that. You should the hold the line, and be steadfast and unwavering in doing so. Again, I’m not calling her a monster who deserves to be put up against the wall for failing in her duties as a primary protector, or that it calling her out as a bad parent fulfills some need of schadenfreude. What I’m saying is that calling her out as a bad parent shouldn’t feel like anything, good or bad. But in applying those emotionally-based reasonings, all that is achieved is further degradation to the responsibility inherently applied to being a parent. Or in other words, the inverse of this situation is that good parents don’t slip up to this degree of severity. But tomorrow’s a new day, and she’s the only one at the fork in the road who can decide which path she’ll take moving forward. Good or bad, she’ll be held, and should be held, accountable as everyone else. The alternative of giving her a pass is the same precedent that has been set upon in the last few decades which has sent our world down this slippery slope of zero accountability with no bottom in sight.
@@dropkickirish4449 Thanks for the novel--didn't read it all because I can't handle the pseudo-intellectual cringe of it. I got separated from my parents once when I was about 4-5. When I got out I heard voices so wrapped a towel around me and walked out to the living room. There were 5 people standing there with my daughter telling me I was a terrible mom because they found her in the apartment parking lot. I was so thankful for those folks but was by far not a bad parent.
@@ohioladybug7390 I get that but from a child's perspective. When I was in preschool if my younger brother was bothering my naps I used to go under the tables or beds just any furniture or items I can hide in so I can sleep. So my parents had it the first time where they almost made an official report for a missing kid. Then they knew better just to check under things including piles of clothes. I felt bad bc Im their first child so it mustve terrified them when it happened. Now Im in my 20s I still did it, not the hiding part but if my sleep is disturbed I'll just get up to find another place to sleep.
That's a given, but caregivers have multiple tasks they are responsible for and it is impossible to not blink 24/7, or not wash a child's cup, or not leave the room to throw a dirty diaper in the trash, or not go to the bathroom, or not look away from one child while chasing the other down. If nonparents wonder why parents look tired most of the time, it's because they work hard keeping their child safe and well-cared for. Support them.
My brother did the same thing at two years old back in the '60s. Cops caught him on the on ramp to 290 in Chicago on his tricycle. He grew up to be a truck driver. Only fitting.
I did something similar at about 3 years old. My mom had an iron hand & watched us like a hawk, but it only takes a second. Mom was cooking breakfast one morning & offhandedly said that dad wanted eggs but we were out of them. Being a daddy’s girl, I was going to make sure he had what he wanted, so I went out the back door (we weren’t allowed to play in the front yard) & through the gate. I walked down our street & across lanes of traffic to the Piggly Wiggly whereupon I told an employee that my daddy needed some eggs. The manager became involved, recognized me & called my parents (long ago, in simpler times, when businesses knew their customers.) By this time, my parents were in full blown panic & my dad was about to go look for me. I’m sure I got scolded, but it don’t remember it. I also don’t remember the walk or crossing the street. I DO remember that daddy wanted eggs & telling someone at the store that he needed some. 🤪😅
When I was about that age my parents had gotten into a fight and when my dad left the house, he didn't close the main door fully and I had gotten out and made it out to a highway similar to this. A neighbor found me crawling on the side of the rode and knew who I was and returned me back home...my mom says she had still been so upset about the fight that she hadn't realized I had gotten out! I'm so glad nothing bad happened to this kid like nothing happened to me, and glad good people out there will do anything to help a kid.
Out of her sight? It would’ve took around 20+ minutes for the child to even get that far. She must’ve been distracted. Probably on her phone or watching tv

If you ever feel like a bad parent, this should make you feel better.
How much time had passed before she realized he was not only out of her sight, and not only outside of the house, and not only outside of the yard, and not only outside of the neighborhood, but walking down a major thoroughfare like Bruce Banner at the end of each episode of “The Incredible Hulk?”
That timer stopped not at her independently arriving at the realization that her child, her blood, that she alone is charged with protecting in this chaotic jungle of insane brutality, was missing.
My parent's aren't "woefully bad parents." You are letting your emotions about the child being in danger cloud your reasoning here. You are not giving a balanced judgment, but a knee-jerk one. That is my final comment to you.
That could have ended very tragically for this child had these good people not been there to help him.

@@ohioladybug7390 I get that but from a child's perspective.

I also don’t remember the walk or crossing the street. had the same thing happen in my moms neighborhood a few years back. we also live a bit further down boulder hwy in another neighborhood. the child was no more than a year old and had crawled out into the street. someone saw the baby, thought the baby was from our house bc our garage was open. the baby was from across the street, people speed down our street and neighborhood frequently, im glad someone saw the kid.
My brother as a toddler learned to climb. He got so good he was able to unlock the front door and escape off down the street while my mom was in the other room making dinner. It was a nightmare scenario but luckily a neighbor brought him back.
My parents installed two more locks the next day. What a toddler can do may shock some people.
All the people on here who want to jump to conclusions when they don't have all the facts just enjoy being ugly. I had the same thing happen to me. My toddler learned how to unlock the "child proof" window locks. I thought he would be safer playing in his bedroom while I was frying chicken.
I know right? They're saying that the parent were careless, weren't responsible and such. Do they even know the parent?
I've seen actual footage of babies crawling up and over TWO baby gates vertically stacked on top of each other. Yes, these children are indeed escape artists.
Sounds like my son. Over here freaking out that he got out the door. Cops brought him home. I was so thankful. Gave up my entire life when he was born with a heart condition to stay home with him. Now I'm being accused of neglect by the state and might lose him.
@@Mill-33 I saw that too!
i wonder if i am the only one who noticed the news reporter stating, " Good for that man paying attention and not being on his phone " ... considering that he was a passenger and still paying attention while riding in the car is what most likely saved that the toddler from being hit by a vehicle driven by a person NOT PAYING ATTENTION !
So put down your damn phones while driving or as a passenger !!!
?
Angela S hes saying since the driver was distracted by driving the passenger person seen him first, if he would have been on his phone who knows if they would have seen him at all.

Me and my friends have a rule, you want to be stuck on your phone you ride in the back. Copilots only in the front
That was a weird comment for her to say.
Very TRUE comment! For the ones confussed you are the ONE'S NOT PAYING ATTENTION that need to.... common sence Not so common!
OMG he's just a baby...angels watching and 2 rescuing him...what a scare for anyone and people who just past this baby by SHAME ON YOU FOR NOT STOPPING
How someone would let their child get into such danger situations is beyond me.
Once you have your own, they will show you how it happens.

@@espresso5214it only takes a second. It doesn't mean one is a bad parent...
Parents who say they have their eyes on their child every minute/ second of the day is lying...thats not possible.
@@espresso5214Also the mother thought her son was secure with the gates in the area being closed...How would she know that one side gate blew open..and her son found it. So much judgement...shes probably kicked herself enough already.
I love how the kid held his grip to the bike mid air. LMAO
Funny how inititially I'm thinking, "How can parents be so clueless letting their young child wander down the streets like that?" But then I gotta remember to keep my mouth shut because I once pulled a stunt like this when I was 4 or 5 years old. 😂😅 I had a little red tricycle and I was mad that my dad and sister was walking to the store which was several blocks away and my mom told me no that I couldn't go with them. My dad said no. They were only going to make a fast trip but I really wanted to go. My mom went into her room and my other siblings were probably playing in theirs so I watched my dad and sis leave through the sliding doors and through my tears I decided that I would follow them. I got on my tricycle and waited till they were far enough to not see me and peddled as fast as my trike would take me. They went about 3 blocks without noticing and cars drove by. And I kinda remember big trucks and going through a traffic light. And calling out to them. After about 30 minutes which seemed much longer they spotted me (I think some cars were honking and pointing at me) and they turned around shocked and scared that I was following them.
They took me back home scolding me the whole way and needless to say my mom gave me a much deserved spanking and I never did that again!!
So yeah it happens. 😰 lol so glad nothing bad happened.
sounds like your mom left a toddler unattended, and then beat said toddler for her own mistake...
@@ThatFilmisGnarly Nah It wasn't as bad as all that. I just got 3 whacks on the behind and a good talking to about danger and safety. But I wasn't traumatized by it or anything lol
it wasn't your fault
So sweet. Great story Esmeralda
I was pulled over by police on my bike (had training wheels on it) I was maybe a mile from my house on Rt 11 (main street) the main road...I just went like half a mile down my side street onto the main road (which had like a double-width sidewalk...So I was nowhere close to the busy road...What I remember the most riding my bike on my side street with the cop in his car alongside...
So glad the right people found the child. Glad his mom got him back and he is ok.
God bless this man and woman
