    I wish I knew more what it is that you mean.
    I watch this video, and I believe I understand very quickly why it is that what I do results in the "bad skier" traits shown here. This helps me by telling me how to recognize when I am exhibiting those traits, and what to do to fix them....this seems like good advice.
    I have a goal of hiking and throwing down on the back wall at Breck this year, so I hope I'm making the right improvements - can't afford a guide!

    it also depends on what kind of skiis you are using.. in this video they use the older straight skiis where the bindings are attached further to the back of the skii. as a result you would then have to lean forward a bit to keep the balance to the center of the ski, unlike the newer skiis where the bindings are more or less on the centerr of the skii, and you therefore don't need to lean forward to keep the balance centered.

    depends on the type of snow your skiing on say for instance deep snow you need to keep your balance more to the back or centre but skiing regulary on a prepared sloped your shins should definatly be touching the front on the boot
    it makes it much easier

    4:21 True True True. I have bad form for I am a new skier at the age of 29. I am in reasonable shape but I get exhaust so fast due to my form. My goal this year to have better form and Learn Powder skiing

    well, I don't think they wanted everyone to follow that tip. It sounded to me more like that tip was specifically for people who always stay totally upright. Sometimes exaggerating helps a little in order to initially learn something or break a bad habit. I can't wait to ski again and apply some of this stuff.

    To leafsfann9917, It is all about balance on the ski. Take a lesson from an instructor you like and who concentrates on teaching proper balance. Just like learning to ride a bike, once you have the balance all the other techniques follow. It is just not possible to learn in the reverse. You will find you progress much faster and have much more fun if you will give this a try....Good Luck

    the newer skis ARE good, but they don't do the work for you; you still have to lean forward. unless in deep powder, leaning forward is critical...

    you should accualy lean that much forward!!? scarry!

  • @inquistive
    @inquistive 6 років тому

    No!!!! Never lean forward. Leaning forward is worse than leaning back. You should be centred over the ski, with the weight generally over the whole of the foot. "Leaning forward" is arguably the worst term ever used by numerous ski instructors.

      Your admonition is in theory correct but in practice incorrect. It is true you need to be balanced fore and aft, approximately clavicles in a vertical plane with front of boot. However, 99% of people lean back and do not lean too far forward. Especially for beginners and intermediates when it gets steeper. Virtually 100% of these skiers lean into the backseat. We need them to vigorously resist this and this ,in part, can be emphasized by convincing them to become comfortable leaning forward. In my students if I over emphasize this it translates into a balanced position. Watch josh foster for a perfect, relaxed fore-aft position and film yourself and watch yourself. Chances are you will not be too far forward.
      It reminds me of the Rodney Dangerfield joke: ( did you ever see a short, fat, ugly guy walking down the street arm in arm with a beautiful girl? ... I never saw that!”

      @@CakewalkHootenanny You are wrong. I believe in telling people what is correct. I don't believe in telling them to lean forward in the hope they will be centred over their feet.

      @Furthy. Early on a skier is shown leaning too far forward in a stopped or static position. That can be a useful exercise. I do not see the featured skier here though"leaning" too far forward when the demo starts, rather I see a skier at 1:17 with a nicely centered and therefore balanced position fore and aft. The torso is tipped at the hip joints ( top of femurs ) and that tip or tilt of the torso matches the lower leg angles.

    • @inquistive
      @inquistive 5 років тому

      @@jamesdunn9714 I agree with all of what you say but my comment was purely in response to the narrator's instruction at 1:03 where he says to "lean forward". Telling people to lean forward is not correct. Instructors will often say "lean forward" when what they actually mean is to not lean back. The problem with this is that many of their students will actually try to lean forward which will feel terrible becuase it is worse than leaning back and so they will not improve. Your terminology, when you say "centred and therefore balanced position fore and aft" is correct, and therefore would be much more beneficial to people learning. If I may, I think it is important to add that it is not a fixed position and that it constantly has to adapt and adjust in order to remain in balance.
