- One of the most badass and decorated soldiers of the Great War was a woman. Serving first in the Balkan Wars, this Serbian war heroine became a celebrity when she won the Karađorđe's Star - the highest Serbian decoration - in 1914 and 1916. Those weren't her only decorations either - watch to find out more.

The stories about Milunka are true, my great-grandfather knew her personally and often told my father about her.
He and his brothers were in the 5th Cavalry Regiment which was under the same command as the Iron Regiment. Like Milunka, our last name is Savić, but people called my great-grandfather and his brothers Srećković (the lucky ones) because the five of them were mobilized in 1912, fought in many battles, they were demobilized at the beginning of 1919, and not one of them was seriously wounded .
Vala, vidi se da su Srećkovići ako ni jedan od petorice nije bio ozbiljno povređen ni jednom!
English: It shows they are the Lucky Ones if they weren't wounded even once!
lucky we don't know, but liers for sure!
Wow, that's incredible!!

You forgot to mention that she was released from concentration camp by the order of the newly appointed German commander of occupied Serbia who was a WWI veteran as well. He asked about her when he arrived, they told him she was imprisoned and he immediately ordered her release. Even gave Nedic some scrubbing over it.
So even the enemy had huge respect for her.
It was lie. Only myth.
I dont think that is true, its a myth
@@serbianwarrior385 When I was in university my roommate was a guy who studied history. He did a thesis about Serbia under Nazi occupation. During his research he went to the national archives and managed to find the issue of newspapers on microfilm published by occupational forces with an article about Nedic sending Milunka to prison on the front page and rambling how Germans set her free. And public scolding of Nedic for imprisonong her. As propaganda, of course. So it's documented. He printed it out and showed the page to us.
There are a lot of documents in Serbian archives that are ignored by public, probably due to nationalistic narrative that is being favorized in the last 30+ years. Hell, my friend even found microfilmed protest letters from Axis and Allied soldiers sent to Radio Beograd for stopping the daily broadcast of the song "Lili Marlene" on the orders from Goebbels. A lot of them are hilarious, especially those sent by British soldiers in North Africa.
If that story was true, it would highly likely have more to do with the dynamics of the international interwar veteran organizations such as Comité International Permanent. It's more about who knows whom.

The thing I like the most about Milunka Savic is that she would have preferred to be remembered for what she did AFTER the war. Raise your hand for the Lady of the Dark.

One more piece of information for you. Serbian history is full of events and people who are extremely brave and who participated in strange and great events. However, one of the most interesting is Momčilo Gavrić - the youngest corporal. He participated in the First Great War. Since the Austro-Hungarians killed his family, the boy joined the army. Momčilo was 8 years old when he received the rank of corporal. As an active and brave fighter, he took part in the Cerska battle, crossed Albania with the Serbian army, participated in the battles at Kajmakčalan and the Thessaloniki front (where he was wounded). In Kajmakčalan Voivode Živojin Mišić, commander-in-chief of the Serbian army, promoted the brave little Gavrić to the rank of sergeant in 1916. Gavrić was 10 years old at the time.
Considering that you are dealing with historical topics and events, this is my proposal ... which you might find interesting. There are many texts about Gavrić and his photos on the Internet

For me, there are 2-3 favorite songs that change every month, I guess 😄 I can listen to an older song I haven’t heard in a while and realize (again!) how amazing the song is. Right now, Stormtrooper, Union (Slopes of St. Benedict) and The Art of War are on repeat.
It's good to have songs on rotation, Gabriela! ;)
And then, out of nowhere, "No bullets fly" or "Unbreakable" are the ones I listened the most in the last few days.

Thank you very much for this video. As a Serb living outside of Serbia, I often meet people who know nothing or very little about Serbia and its glorious past. Except Milunka was real. As huge a fan as I am of Mulan's story there's no historical record she even existed.
Dishonor on you, dishonor on your cow! This piece of history and the person in focus can hardly be compared to an animated fairy tale.

There are no "better" Sabaton songs. They are all the best songs.
As a Naginata instructor whose regular class is all female, this song has proven to be extremely inspirational;
Shiroyaya, because of the Japanese connection, also rates highly (also reflecting my approach in preserving the 'old ways" against modern influence of sportification).
Obviously the Polish history songs, especially Winged Hussars & Uprising, are much appreciated
(although I would like to hear one about the dramatic escape of the Polish submarine Orzeł from Tallinn in WWII).
Lastly, for my late father, a WWII US Navy vet who served on a 'tin can", there is Wolfpack.
Naginatado or Naginatajutsu?
@@janhornak5739 Both!
Good for you, i practiced with naginata for short time, but it isn't my weapon of choice - that would be Nagamaki.
P.S., for the record, during the Winter of 2020-21, when I held evening classes outdoors by lantern light, my 'theme song' for my students was "Night Witches!"

Another great female badass in the history of warfare is the Dragoon Marie Therese Figueur. She served for 22 years in the French Revolutionary Army
under her own name and her own gender. She was shot several times and had several horses shot out from under her. Her exploits are pretty amazing
and she even ended up serving in The Imperial Guard. Ben Thompson did a great write up on her on badassoftheweek.
Thx guys, for taking care, and keeping memory.
I’ve been waiting for her whole story since fire tales ring about her through the song. We got more information in the animated story video.
She truly was a soldier and a bad ass
Thank you, Sabaton. People should really learn how important Serbian history is
With the Superbowl coming up I realized that it would be awesome if Sabaton got the chance to preform for the halftime show. It'll probably never happen but it'd still be amazing to see what kind of show they'd be able to make.
I would absolutely empty my retirement account to be there for that. Will never happen though because we have to be "family friendly". Blegh.
My favourites are "The last battle" and "Union".
"The last battle" because of the story of course, but also because I was born on the fifth of May and my late grandmother was called "Jenny" and survived both bombings during WW2 at Rotterdam.
"Union" is brilliant because of the spirit it has. "As a union we stand and united we fall". That speaks of such power from within, fighting against the odds, with so many nations, so many different cultures but with one greater goal, one big ideal.
Those 2 songs always get me
To add to that: May 5 is also Liberation Day in the Netherlands. So as a Dutchie, that's a special day.
My mom always says "Yeah, it was "liberation day" for me for sure" (I was some weeks overdue😂)
Yes Milunca Savic' she was amazing a woman and great soldier with an incredible fate !!! I like watching channel Sabaton history)
No Bullets Fly has been my favorite Sabaton song for years. Great song about an even greater story.

My favorite Sabaton song is Last dying breath and Lady of the dark and they will forever be my favorite Sabaton songs, but I also love Red Baron, The attack of the dead man and Final solution.
I will say, Lady of the Dark is definitely one of the top 5 Sabaton songs for me, but No Bullets Fly still has a firm grip on the top spot.
Thank you Sabaton. There are so many war stories about humanity, suffering and victory in Serbian war history. Specialy in WW1 🙏🙏🙏

Lady of the Dark is one of the first songs I went out of my way to read up on early in my Sabaton journey.
Attack Of The Dead Men is my favorite Sabaton song followed by To Hell And Back, those 2 haven't changed. There's a lot of songs that I just simply liked that have creeped up and have grown on me since I began listening to these guys around mid 2022. Among those songs is Resist And Bite, Smoking Snakes, The Price Of A Mile, Fields Of Verdun, White Death, Rorke's Drift, Devil Dogs, and Seven Pillars Of Wisdom which is the song that really encouraged me to go through the band's entire library of music. There's many others I could've listed that are climbing up through the ranks as well and Lady of the Dark is one of them.
Incredible work! I have been waiting to know more about her since the song came out!
She was Serbian real hero, would say lady of the light, freedom loving brave woman. Thank you Sabaton.

A true badass woman
Favourite Sabaton song for me changes on a weekly basis.
Though there was a period where Got Mit Uns was undeniably my favourite. I listened to it every day for 2.5 years. mid 2017 to 2020. Then the Winged Hussars arrived!
Been a fan of your work for about 4 years now. My all-time favorite song is definitely Bismarck. It is the one that helped me discover the band in the first place. Since then I've grown to favor devil dogs, attack of the dead men, 82nd all the way, dreadnought, shiroyama, father, hellfighters, the lost battalion, midway, and more depending on my mood. Attack of the dead men is usually my bad day song. I use it as a reminder that my day is not that bad.
