- Where did the war to end all wars begin? The assassination in Sarajevo may have only killed two, but the repercussions killed millions, destroyed empires, and changed the course of history.

Srećna Sabatonu ova nova godina, nek vam bude mnogo dobra. Samo pevajte o istorijskim činjenicama i objektivni, hvala vam za pesme o borcima oslobodiocima Beograda i o heroju Milunki Savić... ❤️❤️❤️
Happy new year the jacket is from the unkillable solider and I hope you make another album in Swedish soon
Happy New Year!
Heck yeah! This is truly the best military history series out there. Hoping one day to hear about the 30th Infantry Division during WW1 and WW2
Imagine going to a concert and then Indy comes on stage and starts a history pop quiz.
Best day ever
Yes!
Where do I buy the tickets?!
"Our shadows will be walking through Vienna, strolling through the court, frightening lords."
Gavrilo Princip
If I showed up to a concert only to get 10 minutes of Indy Neidell talking about the valley of death, I would say that money well spent
I very much like this comment.
We very much like that comment too
@SabatonHistory forgive me for asking but why wasn't Sarajevo on the iTunes release of the Album? Just curious is all
@@Athlon2736they’ll never answer
That'd be a pretty cool idea, bringing Bethan and Indy to live shows to do narration and little lessons respectively to lead-in songs.
I swear I know her voice from 40K...
I'd sure as hell buy tickets
@@jonbaxter2254I thought she sounded familiar
Two bullets. Tens of millions of lives directly lost. Hundreds of millions affected globally. To this day.
And Pär's uniform jacket is from The Unkillable Soldier. 💥
World War was going to happen anyway at some point because all of the tensions in Europe, maybe bit later. Everyone knew the war was inevitable
@@thebel89 the attitude of it being inevitable is a poor take , the same kind of tensions were flared during the cold war and a global conflict never erupted
@@dbzfanexwarbrady but this time the thread was bigger (i mean coldwar)
@@dbzfanexwarbrady the cold war was basically a global war, due to the fact it affected people around many continents
@@thebel89 I'm not sure what that has to do with my comment. But war is never inevitable. Conflict, yes. Bloodshed? Not even a little bit inevitable. But under the Habsburg's 800 year reign, each European power had tied itself to untenable treaties while ravaging Africa, the Western Hemisphere, the Middle East, India, and Australia unchecked for the latter half of that reign. It's the only way Europe could have built the engine for war on a global scale.
This and Versailles were perfect bookmarks to the album.
"Our shadows will be walking through Vienna, strolling through the court, frightening lords." - I read somewhere that this was found engraved on the wall of Gavrilo Princip's prison cell after his death.
"Naše će sjene hodati po Beču, lutati po dvoru, plašiti gospodu..." - in Serbian
Gavrilo 🇷🇸
'Our shadows will walk around Vienna and scare the lords' Free Serbs, down with the occupation.
Pär’s uniform jacket is from The Unkillable Soldier.
Oh I thought it was Fields of Verdun.
at 12:30, Indy mentions Gavrilo is wielding a "revolver" in order to assassinate Ferdinand,
Gavrilo is wielding an FN1910, an autoloading pocket pistol in .380 (and not a revolver in modern parlance), although many times small autoloading pocket pistols are sometimes referred to in the period as "revolvers" due to being grouped as repeating handguns
Last week I was in Vienna, Austria and visited the Royal military museum. It gave me goosebumps to see the car and the dress worn by Franz Ferdinand.
Occupators doesn't deserve better. WW1 was planned by the Germans. Ferdinand was killed in Bosnia and Herzegovina, why did they attack Serbia as first. One third of Serbian population has been killed. I get goosebumps as I see all those graves of Serbian man. And still Serbia won kicking occupators out.
@@mir-jan3496 average serbian nationalist 🤣
My grandfather came to the US in 1907 from Romania. Shortly after he went back at the behest of his father to serve in the Romanian Military, sometime between 1910 and 1912, while out on Maneuvers, an Oxen stepped on his foot and he was discharged and went back to the US. So...I exist because a clumsy Ox and Grandpa Flora didn't die in WW1
I really appreciate Sarajevo and Versailles for very effectively forming prologue and epiloogue for the album and all of Sabaton's WW1 songs as a whole.
Shame Sarajevo wasn't on the regular edition of the album. Some exclusivity shenanigans
@@Arbiter099stupidest song to make exclusive too
I'm from the Balkans and it's amazing how volatile everything is here. We're not spoken of a lot in terms of history but we've done a heck of a lot to change the world. I doubt any other people as as proud and at the same time sad about their origins as people from the Balkans. We really are a weird, special bunch.
Yes we are proud but who said we are sad :) WW1 was allready in a plan of big powers my brother they just use Serbs to make first shoot to party started
I think Otto von Bismark said that if a.ig war is going to happen is gonna be thanks to the balkans
I’d say people from the Balkans are crazy.
You put it well brother 😂
@@alexs5744 Crazier are the evil Empires that tried to subjugate their people.
Sarajevo has such a powerful chorus and solo, very simple yet so effective. Love the dark ambiance that surrounds the song
Interesting fact: In my small town in the middle of the Czech Republic (Velké Meziříčí), we have a handkerchief with the blood of Franz Ferdinand in the museum. That's because the local Count Harrach was a close friend of the Franz Ferdinand and drove with him in same car in Sarajevo.
Just the other day I was wondering who was the woman behind the voice, it’s like you read minds! You’ve chosen well. She’s perfect for all the history in your songs.
Full name Bethan Dixon Bate. I found her IMDb page from the album booklet: she apparently did some of the voice work in Warhammer Vermintide.
She did bannerlord intro

I can imagine a concert, with all your WW1 songs in cronological ordher, where you can start woth this song
End with Versailles
@@rawchicken3463 of course!
@@rawchicken3463 keep going until Hearts of Iron/Nuclear Attack. that would be a looong concert
I don't know any other band that put so much effort into their content as Sabaton does, everything they do is well researched and they even made this channel to teach people even more about their content and the history it represents. I love these guys, they have really created something I haven't seen other super popular artists do. And I'm a 1000 % certain, that all us fans would go fucking wild in pure happiness, if Bethan came on stage to do her lines in their songs and also we had to listen to Indy talking for 2 minutes about the songs in the middle of the concert, I love his way of telling a story.
Princip wasn't eating a sandwich, he was eating burek.
True! Sandwiches are for.... U know... 😉
Gavrilo Princip - hero for all times.
I get shivers everytime i head That intro from Sarajevo…
I swear when I start teaching, I'm using these as a treat for my students.
That would be great 🤘🏼
This is my favorite Sabaton History's video so far! I was in Vienna in 2012 and seeing the car where the Archduke was, it was like a dream come true, since I studied this event since the 2000. It was a very wonderful moment and thanks you guys for bringing this amazing video for 2023!
Also... long live the sandwich.
Literally just what I needed. I'm starting WW1 in World History right now. Just had a pre test for it and did alright on it cause I listened to you guys, thank you for this video too
The way Pär said "Sarajevo" made me think as if we witnessed the murder himself over 100 years ago. If so he looks great for his age
Oh boi can't wait for the rest of videos from this album
Final day off before back to work tomorrow.
Should be enough time to binge all of sabaton history and listen to my sabaton collection right?
Great vid as always. Happy New year everyone.
As one or those "Sabaton Superfans" who was in the top 2% of Sabaton listeners on Spotify, and listened to Fields Of Verdun 70 times last year, i can honestly say I'd be way more hyped to see Indy rather than Sabaton at one of your concerts
Indy would be so happy to hear that!
He choose wrong date to visit occupied territories
happy new year to everyone at sabaton! i really love all the sabaton history videos you guys produce, they are super fun to watch!
If you are ever in Vienna you can go to the Heeresgeschichtliche Museum (army museum) where you can see the car, in which Franz Ferdinand was shot and his uniform.
Legend tells that shortly before his death in prison, Princip inscribed a warning on the walls of his cell: “Our shadows will walk through Vienna, wander the court, frighten the lords.”
LET'S GO, NEW YEAR, NEW SABATON CONTENT. LET'S GOOOOOOOOO
This is not a song about what happened. It is a prelude of what was to come.
This Bismarck quote. There have never been a record of it in german. We know it from Churchill by hearsay from Albert Ballin, written down in "The World Crisis, Vol I: 1911-1914"
That middle bridge is one of the heaviest parts they ever wrote and I love the spoken word verse with Bethan Dixon bate
All the political alliance about the Great war always reminds me of "The Good Soldier Schweik"'s reasoning who is in the alliance with whom. Though i read it in my teens and didn't understand most of the humor, the part where Schweik thinks Germany uniting with Britain will certainly defeat France (or something like that) was hilarious. I guess, politics of that time was a real maze of pacts.
Also remember that most of the royal families were intermarried with each other too with pretty much every major family having a tie to England. England's Queen Victoria's grandchildren included the German Kaiser & the English Monarch while other grandchildren married the leaders (or would become leaders) of other royal families: Russia, Spain, Romania, Sweden, Norway, and Greece. England joining with Germany was not far-fetched.
First 2023 video! Happy new year Sabaton!
If I'm not mistaken the jacket Pär is wearing is from The Unkillable Soldier video
I wonder what the world would've looked like if the locals had lynched Gavrilo since the spark that ignited war was the refusal of the local authority to hand him over.
Nah the great game would've progressed regardless.
I’m guessing the jacket is from The Unkillable Soldier music video. No wonder Indy didn’t recognize it; he had an eye shot out and was being riddled with bullets last time he saw Par wearing it.
Full name, Bethan Dixon Bate. She did some of the voice work for Warhammer Vermintide.
Extremely interesting episode! I'm waiting for... 'The Lady of the Dark'. Wonderful work guys 🤘
Thanks a ton!
Ziveo Gavrilo Princip!
Oh that's surprising, by the voice alone I thought that actress was much older than she looks. She fits so well with history editions, almost like an elder telling a story.
Happy New Year Sabaton and Time Ghost team. You are all great. Keep on the good work that combines education with having a good time guys. Greetings and all the best from 🇬🇷🇬🇷🇬🇷
Actually that shot wasn't the reason, it was an excuse for Austro-Hungarian Empire to attack Serbia and start World War I, other than that great history video as always.
True!
I went to Vienna museum of military history, the WWI section just screams sabaton. The car and the uniform where the Archduke was shot is there. Impressed that I saw it
Can't have an episode about the first World War without the legend Conrad von Hötzendorf
Happy New Year to all of you! And big thanks to the Sabaton History crew for making this amazing videos! 😊
Oh, this song is the first one my 4yo daughter asked me to put it on repeat. She has good taste in music 😁
Our pleasure & Happy New Year! Your daughter sounds like a pretty cool 4 year old!
Finally we learnrd who your narrator is.
Thanks for this great episode dudes 🤘
Happy New Year Sabaton History🙂
This was Great. Thanks a lot. I really loved it!
Happy New Year! 😊
Finally Sabaton History is rolling again 🤘
Happy new year! Love new episode. It's way more interesting than history class in my scholl time.
Thank you!
Fascinating as always! My son and I were just talking about how HELLFIGHTERS would be a great subject for Sabaton History - not enough is known about these amazing men!
RIP Franz Ferdinand :( Would have loved Franz Ferdinand...
The German historian Michael Freund described Franz Ferdinand as "a man of uninspired energy, dark in appearance and emotion, who radiated an aura of strangeness and cast a shadow of violence and recklessness ... a true personality amidst the amiable inanity that characterized Austrian society at this time."As his sometime admirer Karl Kraus put it, "he was not one who would greet you ... he felt no compulsion to reach out for the unexplored region which the Viennese call their heart."It is easy to say you love him when your people were not his slaves choked under his boot!
@@VesnaAudiosnave Alright there Herodotus, have you heard of the band named Franz Ferdinand?
Princip and his gang didn’t had revolvers. They had FN 1910 pocket pistols.
Shortly before his death in prison, Princip inscribed the following sentence on the walls of his cell: “Our shadows will walk through Vienna, wander the court, frighten the lords.”
One Man's Hero, Another Man's Villain...
Awesome story!!! My nephews saw a few videos from your channel helping them with their history homeworks and they finally became Sabaton fans!!! Happy 2023 for all of you guys!!!
Glad you enjoyed it! Great to hear about your nephews. ROCK ON!
love these episodes
Indy Neidell was about to drop some biggie cheese bars
19:00 I want a clip of Indy singing Mr. Bombastic now
There's a great book by Max Hastings, "Catastrophe 1914: Europe Goes to War" which details all the interwoven alliances that brought on the war as the house of cards fell apart.
Brings back 1914 memories
thank you!
The war would have started anyway with or without the assassination of Ferdinand. This just accelerated everything.
Happy New Year!!🤘🥂🍾 🎉 ,
A happy beginning of the year with a new episode of Sabaton History 😃🙏 .
I love it!
Happy new year!
Everything today leads back to that moment 108 and a half years ago. Think about it.
I want to see a sabaton show where just before they play attack of the dead men or father, indy comes on and starts a rant with “whats the deal with gas shells?”
Happy New Year Indy and Sabaton. Some songs, specially at the beginning of the band sounded similar. BUT, that's like the soul of the band. Anyone heard John Williams, Basil Poledouris or James Horner, they have similar tones in different movie scores, it's their essence.
So to say they are the same, it's just bullocks.
Hey indy, I heard where you're going with "I'm Mr Boombastic", lol. I also listened to shaggy growing up. 😂
Hey Sabaton and Indy. Awesome episode as always. I have a question. On the Attero Dominatus album the songs We burn and A Light in the Black, are they inspired by the same event? Or the Medak pocket? Awesome songs and history episodes too. Thanks Indy and Sabaton.
Yay new video
Very interesting know about WW1 more thank you so much!
Thank you for your support!
Poland was not on any map at this time, 123 years. Daurentius, a southern Slavic chieftain said in the 6th century "Others do not conquer our land, we conquer theirs. So it shall always be for us" Slava Slavia. United Slavia is a must. Polska🇵🇱
"Who is a man who lives on earth and is sunlit and wants to enslave us? We are used to ruling over strangers and not being ruled by them. And so it shall remain as long as there is war in the world and swords!".
The origin name of all Slavic people is SERBIAN/SERBI.
@@oliputnik sounds better than Slav. That's too much like slave. Thanks.
@@johngillespie3409 Yes you are right. In Eastern Germany exists the nation of "Serbi" in their homeland "Serbia". The same in south-east Europe Serbs and Serbia. In Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Turkey etc. you will find places and cities which are calling "Serbi, Srbi, Serbsko" etc. and these are all designations that come from the old name.
I have found the speech in a german history book from 19th century.
Sabaton's Sarajevo is a good song, but every time I hear that name in reference to a song, the first place I go to is Savatage's Sarajevo.
Since tomorrow would be the end of my winter break for my middle school we’re actually in our world war one unit so this kind of works with a refresher for me
The song sounds so good 👍👍👍👍
I would love for Indy to do a song with the guys at some point. I know he has appeared in a few videos but he's never really performed in any.
Гаврило Принцип 🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸
This is great timing, I just uploaded a guitar solo cover of The Valley of Death on my channel!
The War To End All Wars has probably surpassed Carolus Rex and The Great War as my favourite Sabaton album
Ngl I'd love to see Indy and Sabaton do a collaboration performance live on stage XD
Isten óvja a főherceget!
To quote Capt Edmund Blackadder, The hero of M'boto Gorge "Two super powers developed, Us(The Brittish Empire) France, Russia and Italy on one side, with Austro-Hungary and Germany on the other a war in Europe would be impossible. There was one problem with this plan. It was Bollocks!"
The writer for "Twelve Fingers" is Jô Soares, a brazilian comedian, which is famous for writing several books on famous personalities on unusual and fictional situations. There's even a tale of Sherlock Holmes in Brazil, but he transforms his deductive powers into sheer luck to make the novel funnier.
Please bring Indy next time you tour the US, would love for mid-show history lesson, possibly with Tommy adding some pleasant piano background.
That sandwich details is fascinating.
#1) Great Video, thanks Indy, Par, and Sabaton History team!
#2) The jacket, from The Unkillable Soldier video?
#3) Par's giggle at 15:14 is freaking adorable
This, and the fact that the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell is all I retain from school
Gosh, I'd pay for tickets to an event where Indy just talks for an hour or two about historical topics and Sabaton's just playing the background music. But I would pay extra to have Indy lead into Sabaton's songs at a concert. What do you mean that would make the concerts twice as long? I don't see the problem :D
This song is so catchy, it always makes me sing along these damn, haunting lines... :)
the jacket i think i saw it in last dying breath, or fields of Verdun, but i think what he really talking about is in the background of the music video of the great war
Jacket is from the unkillable soldier, pretty sure joakim wore it
Gavrilo Princip had an FN1910 semi automatic handgun not a revolver, not a lot of people know that just thought I'd point that out
In that war Serbia lost 2/3 of its population if I am not mistaken
