I love the seagrass color. But they seem kinda plain, with ya'll's bubbly personalities. I bet they would look awesome if Sarah painted a few cartoon flowers on them, maybe some daisy's, sun flowers, tulips, and maybe a blue or purple flower, maybe a thistle or some Heather too.
Little tip for keeping your knife happy and sharp for longer, especially as that knife looks like a really nice knife... Use the back spine of the knife when moving things off the chopping board, such as the you move the walnuts into the pan and the when you moved all the cheese into a pile 😀
I am a retired Head Gardener and we used to open up trenches about 2 feet deep for potatoes. We would then put a good layer of manure into the bottom and plant the potatoes directly into the manure then cover with soil. This gave a great crop of really tasty potatoes
Willie and Sarah and dawgs:) Those planters are wonderful, great way to grow things. COMPOST... ahh , the gardeners friend. There was a small area next to our driveways where with dumped a variety of plant leftovers. It was early Spring and by summer all kinds of things had sprouted from the soil. Here were also potatoes. It did better ,on a small scale, than or planned garden. You are both infected with Cottage industrialis, the results by late summer and fall we be amazing! Cheers, Rik Spector
Fell way behind on my comments, sick for awhile but back to watching my favorite foursome ! Nori has grown so much, barely a puppy anymore, still full of mischief tho. Love the new planters, they will look amazing when all the sprouts peek over the top. As always, Jack is such a good boy, maybe Nori will learn from him ??? 🙄 Thank you for another great video, you both are so special and fun to watch whatever you get up to. Love and hugs 🥰🥰 xx
The planters look great! If your intension is to make them “puppy proof” you should probably move the bench. It would make a perfect step-up for the Pups to get into the planters.😮
If you soak walnuts for about 6 hours, you get rid of the bitter. Actually you should soak them before you eat them as well as your body gets more nutrients out of them.
You can dry out some of that abundant, FREE, nutrient rich seaweed (after its been through a few rainstorms to get most of the salt out), and just toss it on the top of the soil. It also keeps down weeds. Your plants will hug you tight if so!
I’m in Snowdonia and my wild garlic is only now ready. Once in invades your garden it spreads like crazy. The planter colour reminds of the flower planters gran had outside the farmhouse It’s what we call ‘Portmeirion blue’ The distinctive Italianate village here that features this colour.
Love the colour of the planter boxes. They look so good against the backdrop of the cottage. That pesto looked amazing. Nori is getting a lot bigger. Look forward to seeing the planters full of the seedlings. Have a good week guys.
I made a planter from my neighbours old decking and lining….. lick of paint and it looks like a brand new planter. Mine is for my flowers but I have a load of veg in pots this year. Love your planters guys, really good job!
I bet you had an amazing view of the northern lights in skye these last couple of days. Hopefully you managed to get some footage or photos thanks for the video
Lots of hard work in this video well done planter’s look great and a good colour. Hope you get to Harris we stayed in strond was lovely went to the sandy beaches in luskentyre absolutely beautiful ❤❤. Hope you all have a fabby time enjoy 👌♥️👌
The planters look fab! When you were talking about the gorse Sarah, I thought that you might have harvested some as they are edible. In fact the gorse is quite useful. The flowers can be used for tea, syrup, pickles and alcoholic beverages. The plants can be used as a fuel as they burn readily and burnt gorse enriches soil. Thanks for the video.
Love the colour of the planters and they look even better made than shop ones! better quality wood as well I expect...good job Wiilie you are a pro.... Oh and the pesto looked amazing too. I can not believe the amount of stuff that you got on that clean up you did Sarah, it is a bit shocking isn't it...Good job your there to do those clean ups though eh!!!
Really enjoyed the video Guys. Your carpentry skills are amazing! My Daughter is going to Lewis & Harris in 9 days time. She can't wait! All the best, John.
Have you ever thought about painting your walls in the lounge a lovely cream colour??? Everytime I see them I think how beautiful they would look...even a cream wash?? ( Just an idea!!!) xxxx
We have thought about it, but we do quite like the cosiness of the wood and once you paint over it, there’s not really any going back! Plus our bedroom is white, so it’s nice to have some variation 😊
What’s your production schedule? Will we get to see Northern Lights footage in one of your upcoming weekly videos? Good idea on the potato’s…Hope it works out. Cheers, and ATB!
We work a couple of weeks behind the footage that we film, to give us time to edit it all 😊 We might have some Aurora snippets to share with you soon..👀
Thank you for inspiring me to get cracking out in the garden LOL!!! Always enjoy your lovely videos!!!! I hope you get to Harris as I am dying to see what it is like over there!! xxxx
The planter boxes looks great guys. Those seedlings are doing well. Can't wait to see you plant them. Hope you guys were able to make the trip. Looking forward to next video.
Smiled about your carrot story. We had moved into a house with a small kitchen garden off the patio. The following spring we found a few old, small carrots that we gave to our Cairn and Scottie. Duffy, the Scottie, got the idea that treats came out of the ground. Unfortunately, the next one he dug up was a radish! Didn’t have to police him much after that.
I have been wanting to try straw bail gardening. It is supposed to be wonderful for growing potatoes. All four of the planters together with the two benches look too tight in front of the cottage. If any of the plants get big (and hang over) you may have a problem. Jack had a wonderful day with the sticks. Only eight more days of school left before I get a much needed Summer Vacation.
you likely have an abundance of seaweed which would be good for the potatoes. Other veg as well. Great mulch. Those beds are quite deep so ideal for carrots but you don't need so much depth for a lot of crops. Some great youtube channels like Allotment Diary for advice on spuds and carrots etc.
Love the updated intro. Planters are great, youll be surprised how much produce youll get from them. Remember to put some edible flowers in to attract bees...
When I hear the words,”…….and it’s likely to be a rough crossing”. That is the time I cancel my trip pronto and vow never to book again! Once across the channel in ‘rough seas’ was enough to last me my entire lifetime! Good Luck all of you - hope the pups have a tolerable journey!!! What stress - i’d stay home with the seedlings!
l also travel with my dogs, suggest you get harnesses for both of your beautiful furry babies as they will be in a unfamiliar environment on the ferry and probably excitable, don't forget the travel bowls and toys.Good luck and God bless from a Canadian fan of your podcast.
The planters look awesome :) Well done guys. x oh ps loved seeing the ponies. We are a horsey family (only have 2 horses now) For 35 yrs we have used all of our horse poo (aged and raw) on our organic vege gardens and Im pleased to say everything we plant thrives in the stuff.
Have you noticed that the underside of a wild garlic leaf repels water? Hydrophobic. You can see it in your bowls. I asked about it. (I pick it a lot for our pork pies). Apparently it protects the stomata (pores) under the leaves from bacteria and fungus.
A wild garlic deodrant might work to repel midges. Good call using the ton bags for spud planters. Probably too late to say it but if you opened the compost bags at the end rather than just slicing down a side keep them stashed for moving and storing the homebrew compost.
Definitely use seaweed for fertiliser if you can. It's fantastic stuff and something not everyone has access too. You can also mix it with water for a kind of 'tea' you can water onto plants. Also coffee grounds are great and do a decent job at keeping some pests off your veg ☺️ Also, if you find any fine nets on the beach you could repurpose them for peas/beans to climb up.
Terrific isn’t that you are making use of the growth around you but sadly Garlic makes me violently ill. I love mushrooms and we. Collect dill from the sides of the creeks. The planter boxes are a huge success.
Hi guy's loved the video as always, fantastic job to u both on the new planters perfect colour too,so glad ure doing ure own potatoes they're the tastiest grown from home and loads of varieties to choose from.loving the birds so calming to watch when they're on bird feeders.glad the boys helped in there way🙂🤙xx
You both worked very hard on your planters but well worth it as they look fab! Hope everything grows well for you! We live on an island too so know your pain with ferry crossing dilemmas! Take care x
I do enjoy your videos very much but, every week without fail your 'we will see you' makes me laugh out loud as well as I always sing along to babbadedalladahdah! Take care xx
We melted about an inch of bees wax and poured it on our dog house when a dog came to live with us pregnant with 10 babies & in her first heat. It has a planting bed on top that is slanted to allow excess water to drain off. It has lasted 15 years. We kept the mom & one of her babies. I think the wood was white cedar. We also have rain barrels that have the capacity for almost 600 gallons of water.
Previous comment just read my mind. Maybe secure flexible tubing from each side of the anter boxes making an arch, then cover with wide gauge chicken wire or square wire with large wide gauge, popping a flat piece at each end. Great job guys, maybe a new occupation making planter boxes? Could name then 'The Jack' and 'The Nori'. Ha ha ha!!!!!
If your seedlings get long and leggy, you can put a fan on them and they generally sturdy up. Good to see you finding free stuff for the garden - I’m a hippie scrounger, and cringe at the cost of buying new. You live in such a dramatic, beautiful place, but I’m too old to deal with all the inclement weather. Sure is pretty there, though. Good luck with the garden! You’ll no doubt learn strategies to cope with the fierce climate. Save your seeds! The next generations will acclimate.

Love you two...and the "get doons"

I just love the fact that Jack brought a Trusty Stick for you to throw for him, Sarah...just in case you had a moment spare!
Always!
Such a great colour for the planters...sky blue for Skye and the sea...
Willie and Sarah and dawgs:)
Those planters are wonderful, great way to grow things.

Free foraged food! Free pony compost! YAY!!! Beautiful raised beds! Prayers for a bountiful harvest!!
You guys work so well together. True partners❤❤❤❤❤

Love seeing the ever adorable Jack Spaniels!!!
Love Jack Spaniels. He is just the perfect dog for your life.
Remember to drill some drainage holes in your planters or your spuds will rot after flowering chop back the foliage to avoid blight and rotten tatties
Loved your clip today. Just love the pups especially Jack. He certainly loves life. Thanks again!
So happy Jack had an outing alone with mom. Sometimes there are advantages to being the older brother.
Look at u guys go, trying to beat the rain, the planter boxes look great … also like the color.. good job guys, and the pesto.. YUM!!!
We can try to beat the rain on Skye, but it usually gets the better of us 🤣
Did you really make pesto out of only wild garlic with no basil? Never heard of it. Very creative.
The planters look great! If your intension is to make them “puppy proof” you should probably move the bench. It would make a perfect step-up for the Pups to get into the planters.😮
Ahaha yes we learnt that very quickly…🤣
The colour of the planters is perfect. It complements Willie's fantastic job making them. Well done guys.
Thank you. Your videos are always interesting. Cheers.
If you soak walnuts for about 6 hours, you get rid of the bitter. Actually you should soak them before you eat them as well as your body gets more nutrients out of them.
Get some used mushroom compost on your raised beds for an extra harvest
Every time you play the tune for the dogs, I can’t get it out of my head for days, I love it. Planters are amazing, two talented folk. ❤
Love the seagrass colour. Well done with the planters x
You can dry out some of that abundant, FREE, nutrient rich seaweed (after its been through a few rainstorms to get most of the salt out), and just toss it on the top of the soil. It also keeps down weeds. Your plants will hug you tight if so!

Love the music Willy when things are speeding up!!
Those planters look amazing and that colour will be so nice to look at even in the winter!!

My Dad and I would gather several sacks of seaweed each year to spread on his tatties and veg plots , iodine rich produce 👍
Planter boxes are lovely …..♥️🇨🇦
Nice boxes,,love the pups ,but Jack spaniel will always be special to me.
Love the color of the boxes, guys! Oh, I so hope the weather cooperates for your trip…
I love the color and the way it leads your eye out to the water.
Lovely planters and that colour looks awesome against the cottage.
Planters look great. Sarah, I notice a faint Scottish twang lol❤😂
I love the planters.
Another cracking job you two
You two are sooooo watchable 👍
Love the colour of the planter boxes. They look so good against the backdrop of the cottage. That pesto looked amazing. Nori is getting a lot bigger. Look forward to seeing the planters full of the seedlings. Have a good week guys.
Hope you remember to put a drain in each of your planters.
Sarah drilled drainage holes in them
You should put casters on the bottom of them so you can move them
I made a planter from my neighbours old decking and lining….. lick of paint and it looks like a brand new planter. Mine is for my flowers but I have a load of veg in pots this year. Love your planters guys, really good job!
I bet you had an amazing view of the northern lights in skye these last couple of days. Hopefully you managed to get some footage or photos thanks for the video
We saw it on Friday night - it was incredible!!
@livingtheskyelife Would be nice to see pics if you have any... we had aurora here on the NE coast of Scotland Friday too....pics are amazing!! 🌌💖✨️

LOL, enjoying this back to the land channel and UA-cam feeds me Prada commercial 🤪
Ha! Yup - we have no control over the ads they put on during the videos.
We did gorse syrup last year, but weren’t the biggest fans (gorse rum however, was a big success!)
Monday lunch in Auckland NZ. Time for 'Living the Skye Life'!
And we in nz just love( not) the gorse. Spreads like crazy here.
Thanks!
It freezes really well the wild garlic.
Thanks 4 that 😊 💕
The planters look great! We might do some for our new garden office! Thanks for the ideas. Have a nice holiday.
Man, you guys work HARD! Bet you sleep good!
Bless Jack. He looked very pleased with his buckets of poo! 😅
Really enjoyed the video Guys. Your carpentry skills are amazing! My Daughter is going to Lewis & Harris in 9 days time. She can't wait! All the best, John.

You need to get a scoop and a rake like horse owners use for that job it will make your dung harvest easier
The planter boxes looks great guys. Those seedlings are doing well. Can't wait to see you plant them. Hope you guys were able to make the trip. Looking forward to next video.
I never get tired of your views of the loch…
Love the planters color! Goodluck growing!

Love your veggie boxes. I think you should somehow waterproof the feet.
I have been wanting to try straw bail gardening. It is supposed to be wonderful for growing potatoes. All four of the planters together with the two benches look too tight in front of the cottage. Have you ever thought of planting Apple trees? My sister and her husband have Apple trees at their place near Inveraray, they produce wonderful fruit.
you likely have an abundance of seaweed which would be good for the potatoes. Other veg as well. Great mulch. Those beds are quite deep so ideal for carrots but you don't need so much depth for a lot of crops. Some great youtube channels like Allotment Diary for advice on spuds and carrots etc.
Glad I'm not the only Cocker Spaniel owner that gets his gloves stolen and sometimes get them buried for me!!
Gloves, socks, hats, slippers, blankets, fire wood…and pretty much anything else he can get his teeth on 🤣
Love the updated intro.
Planters are great, youll be surprised how much produce youll get from them.
Remember to put some edible flowers in to attract bees...
So good again hope u get to go to Harris brilliant garden boxes fab as usual ❤

The colour of the planters is great. They look so good at the front of the house. 😺 X
I never get tired of your views of the loch….
Neither do we!!
That’s a serious rock garden under your turf 😳😳
Your planters look fab. I love them. Great color choice.
Love it when you cook, pesto is a favorite of mine.
Wily your music is very lovely
Brilliant planters, well done and best wishes for the growing season..I hope you got on your holiday...
Have you noticed that the underside of a wild garlic leaf repels water? Hydrophobic. You can see it in your bowls. I asked about it. (I pick it a lot for our pork pies). Apparently it protects the stomata (pores) under the leaves from bacteria and fungus.
Ooh that’s interesting!!
The planters look so good! Great solution to the puppy problem!
I love the planters and the pesto looks delicious!!! 😍😍😍😍😍
A wild garlic deodrant might work to repel midges.
Good call using the ton bags for spud planters. Probably too late to say it but if you opened the compost bags at the end rather than just slicing down a side keep them stashed for moving and storing the homebrew compost.
Hahaha lol WILD Garlic Deodorant..I could JUST SEE using richard as the model for THAT 1!!
I love the effect of those seagrass planters on little planks: four little blue cows waiting for "nourishment!."...❤❤❤❤❤❤🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱...
Loving the colour of the planters, very clever making them yourselves looking great. Cannot wait to see what you make using your garlic pesto xx
Beautiful music, Willie! SUCH A TREAT..
Definitely use seaweed for fertiliser if you can. It's fantastic stuff and something not everyone has access too. You can also mix it with water for a kind of 'tea' you can water onto plants.

Yeah we can’t wait to start using seaweed and we always have plenty of coffee grounds! Good to know about the pests 👍
Terrific isn’t that you are making use of the growth around you but sadly Garlic makes me violently ill. I love mushrooms and we. Collect dill from the sides of the creeks. The planter boxes are a huge success.

Great show. We watch every week and feel homesick for the beautiful country.
I do enjoy your videos very much but, every week without fail your 'we will see you' makes me laugh out loud as well as I always sing along to babbadedalladahdah!
Take care xx
Aww thanks so much! Sometimes we wonder if we should stop doing it, but it’s too much fun 😅
We melted about an inch of bees wax and poured it on our dog house when a dog came to live with us pregnant with 10 babies & in her first heat. Keep the smaller rocks in the bags of potatoes! They warm up during the day and stay warm at night for the potatoes.
Great job! Was thinking you should paint your logo across the planters!
Brilliant!!!.. So much content, information and brilliant filming. Canny wait to see the horshtatats.. 😂.. What wee cosy cottage. Thanks for making us smile, pestgo... Cheers🍻🍻😁😁
Oh, These wonderful four Guys!
The planters look great! Looking forward to seeing how the garden progresses and how the potatoes do.
Just found your channel, thoroughly enjoyed the content. Planters are Fab !!! xx
Great work on the vegs box’s and the pesto Best Wishes from Australia 💙💗💙💙🇦🇺
