It is spruce not pine. This type of commercial forest is far too dense so no good for wild life. This forest will be replaced by a more natural forest which can be walked through and friendly to all beings.
I'm sure I'm not alone in saying I feel a special connection to this beautiful song, having followed the three of you on your Skye Life adventures from Day1. Your clear, strong voice is incredible to listen to... with lyrics that we all can sing & relate to. I enjoy all of your music & appreciate you taking us along to see/hear the entire, really interesting process. Cheers S, W & JS ☕🍰
Up here in the Yukon, they aren't only thinking commercial use, but also fire breaks, healthy ecosystem, disease control etc. Planning wildlife corridors, not impeding waterways or affecting natural springs, leaving trees with nests of protected bird species, offering deer/elk/moose 'new growth' food & safe cover from preditors, leaving some fallen trees for small wildlife habitat, open areas for plant regeneration...the list of rules & regs is thankfully long. @@tkaald
Super interesting video. Lots of it was technical but lots of emotions. Evoking memories of the past and future, whether the house or the trees that built it. Great way to express the duality.
The felling of the trees made me feel emotional. It looks so sad when they fall. Necessary maybe. I adore a forest. Great video footage. Lovely track Willie.
Here in my area of the U.S.A. we often have small stands left in an area that has been cut for several different reasons. 1 to act as natural seedings of mixed growth. 2 to stabilize the land where it is now newly exposed. 3 to protect new young trees from damage. 4 to protect water ways. 5 the land will be left for three to five years to natrally seed from the left stands to natralize and then farmed seedlings are planted. These fill in the areas that are still not producing natrally seeded trees, these are usually desired mono cultured trees, this also allows for the soil to regenerate and the protective understory to reestablish. Much of this fast growing under growth is cut down at this time to act as fertilizer for the transplants and as protection for the new trees. The roots and stumps from the cut brush is left to stablize the soil while the young trees grow and take over as the soil stabilizing and this brush also acts to keep competitive under story from killing the young trees. Much of the under story is very fast growing and would shade the trees and utilize the nutrients the young trees need. I hope this perspective helps.
IT'S ME AGAIN, I JUST LISTENED TO WILLIES NEW SONG, I LOVE IT, IT MEANS ALOT TO ME BECAUSE FOR THE LAST 51 YEARS I HAVE BEEN RESTORING EARLY HOUSES HERE IN S.E. PA. SOME OF THEM ARE THE OLDEST IN THE STATE, ONE IS THE LOWER SWEDISH CABIN BUILT IN 1655 ANOTHER IS THE SAMUEL LEVIS HOUSE BUILT IN 1692. I REALY UNDERSTAND YOUR SONG, SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE LIVED IN THESE OLD HOUSES THEY HAVE HAD GOOD TIMES AND BAD TIMES THEY HAVE LOVED AND THEY HAVE DIED. ITS JUST AMAZING TO THINK OF ALL THE SPRITS IN THESE OLD HOUSES OLD HOUSES HAVE A SOUL AND THEY CAN TALK TO YOU IF ONLY YOU LISTEN
Have been meaning to comment about Willie’s pullovers/jumpers, for ages. I love the variety and colours. So great to see some of the process of Willie’s release too.
Fabulous song, Willie has a lovely singing voice. I want to buy his jumper! I hate to see trees cut down but these are a monoculture, as Sarah said we need native trees, we need forest lungs now as well as wood which we are very wasteful of considering how long it takes to grow. My dad used to cut our Christmas tree out of the top of a conifer because none of us kids wanted a tree cut down! 😉
I find the cutting down of all those beautiful trees so shocking. I love your song Will, and love all your music on here. Blessings to the three of you. xxx
The big Sitka outsiders are too big and hairy for the Harvester to fell. They're usually felled by hand and the first sawlog cut off the bottom, so that the harvester head can grab them. At least you'll get some new views of the coast, at least until the replacements grow up! Great video folks!👍
Hie folk's, felling of all these trees what effect it has on the wild life, you can bet there must be some impact for them such as noise and disturbance of there habitats, let us all hope that things get back to normal soon 🔜 🔜 🐶🦊🦊
Happy Skye Life anniversary 🎉🥂 l well remember the first video. Well done with the song Willie, hopevit gies well. Thank you for sharing your adventures....Alioban
My husband and I were on Skye and visited Scotland this past September. We saw the tree harvesting and replanting and wondered how the residents felt when their view changed so dramatically. Interesting you touched on that in this video. We stayed near Harrapool, and unfortunately the coffee Bothy in Broadford was closed so I couldn’t pick up any of your cards. Enjoy your videos and that you are both so down to earth❤
I am fascinated with the tree harvesters in action, could watch them for ages. Just watched a bit further and these ones look like they are done differently from here, where they cut and strip all the foliage off and then place the bare trunk on the ground.
I'm so happy just got your brilliant song I love it thankyou, you are very talented. I have been waiting for this since you first let us hear it many months ago now .
I know it's sad to see so many trees to be felled. Yet, as Willie said, it's a crop, planted for use. And believe it or not, you and Willie use a lot of the product from those trees. Guitars, drum sets, envelopes, paper for painting, writing, boxes for mailing, wood fireplaces, and even for the boat. Where I live, pine is the crop. And it seems like every month a plot of trees is harvested. Then replanted. There are no old growth forests near me. So sad. But that is the way. Those trees are so straight and the branches seem to only be at the top. Must be used for power lines or even building timber. But either way, you still have a few years before your plot is felled. So enjoy the mushrooms and other foraging goodies you can.
Looking forward to a listen of your song, Willy. It’s hard to think of trees as crops, isn’t it. That machine made nothing of taking them down. Pretty impressive. Pats to JS.
I went to Skye, while driving around the Highlands, a bit over over 30 years ago, and fell in love with it and the people. I'm home now, in tropical Central Queensland. Crocodiles, sharks, snakes, cattle and blowflies, cyclones and floods and I love it. I chould have chosen to stay in the Highlands when I had the opportunity, but came home with the memories of another country, life and time. Watching you both every week, for a while now, feels like I'm back there again, just for a short while. Thank you. PS. Beautiful song Willie Scott!

Agreed, sad to see any trees being felled. But I guess it's better than importing timber. I hope there will be plenty deciduous among the replacements. Love the song Will ...Best of luck with it.
Having another mini Skye trip, so super happy to hear two familiar voices on Skye radio in the car, spent rest of day singing 'These Old Walls'. Congratulations Willy the song's a winner and congratulations for getting away with using Sarah's dryer. Sarah I can't wait to hear about what you've been up to and loved to see Jack Daniels spoilt for choice with all those sticks. Happy home anniversary and thank you for putting a smile on all our faces.
Had a chuckle!! I am teetotal, and thought Jack Spaniels was an adaptation of Jack Sparrow (he has a piratanical gleam in his eye). Now I see Jack Daniels! Clever!
Can't believe a whole year has gone by since the beginning of the Skye Cottage adventures. I have loved them all and especially both of you and sweet Jack Spaniels. Congratulations Willie, your recording is just wonderful ! I used to be a singer so I can really appreciate just how super you sound. Happy days !! I wish you a wonderful holiday season amidst the snow and the pines. Huge Christmas hugs 🥰🥰 xx
Nice trees, sad to see them cut down even though they were planted for just that purpose...but then that's life, isn't it? The old has to make way for the young.
Willie, your song is absolutely beautiful. You should be so proud of yourself. Definitely going to buy it , and It’s only £3 to purchase the song to support Willie and his music. So much talent in two people ❤️

I live in Aberdeenshire and there are many trees felled here as well. The storms a couple of years ago uprooted lots of trees and it seems that the Forestry Commission has used it as an excuse to remove many more. I hope they put as much effort into planting new ones.
Thanks! They’re from a company called ‘Loud Elephant’. They donate a share of their profits with wild elephant charities, which is no bad thing in my book. Check them out, if you get a chance. 🙂

What does “second growth” mean?
@@rosemarymee It means its the second time that this plantation has been harvested, many of these plantations were created in the 1940`s due to timber shortages during the second world war and to supply the mining industry with pit props, first harvest around 1980`s, (first growth) then replanted and now harvested again 40 years later (2nd growth) and will be replanted again to be harvested in the 2060`s and so the cycle continues, although many of these plantations are now being replanted with native trees, not these which are fast growing non native Sitka spruce, lodgepole pine or larch

Thank you for showing us your life on Skye. I've followed you even before you moved. Wish you a very restful and happy Christmas. I'm hoping my husband has got me one of your prints Sarah, I left him enough hints 😅 xxx
Congratulations on the release!!!! What wonderful news 😁
Really interesting as always. A brilliant song Willie! And what a warm welcome home 😊
Thanks - very kind! And yup! Never a quiet welcome with a spaniel! 🙂
You always put out the best videos. I can't believe that it's been a year since you went to the Isle of Skye. Amazing how you put together your music. Thanks for the drone shots of the lumber coming down. These are all things you don't see often if at all. Thank you for sharing your fabulous life. Hi Sarah and Jack ❄️🎄☃️🐕🇺🇲
