      A "tree skeleton"! This term put tree painting into a pneumonic image for me, which really helps. Thanks, Chuck! And that sunset.....

    A while back I painted the perfect tree. And have never been able to repeat it.
    What I've discovered is that I did it in black and made it awesome when I touched it up with a fan brush and the perfect green.
    Nice demo 😜

      @@chuckblackartHey, since I have your ear let me say, I did follow your steps and have painted oil over acrylics. Since I am working on about 6 pictures at once I have lost track of "What am I looking at? Oil or Acrylic?" Now I plan to write kinds of like a log keeping exact track of what paint I'm looking at...but in the meantime, do you know a way to tell which it is.? And how many days should I let the acrylic dry before putting the "sealer" on? I did it on one picture and then painted the oil and ended up with a big muddy cloud...as I lay in bed that night, I remembered that it was done on top of the fixative - I got up and wiped it all away...it was such a lesson...I was overjoyed at how it saved my picture.
      (BTW I did buy 3 of those blade brushes and like them very well!)

    Absolutely stunning, Chuck!! Thank you so much for sharing your talents! I'm an intermediate painter, leaning more towards beginner-intermediate. My son asked me to create a sunRise, a waterfall, and a mountain scene around in April. He sure doesn't ask for much, does he? Lol. Anyways! I'm struggling because I'm relatively new, and I learn by watching videos but can't find exactly what I need all in one video. I prefer acrylics so far . Would you do this kind of painting for us?...well...for me especially :) Keep doing what you do, Chuck. You were born for this. Thanks kindly!

    This video was so helpful. I have been making a lot of pine trees for a series of snow scenes and have been using a dagger brush for the branches as well as other fine lines. They are great. However mine don't last all that long, eventually, they lose their crisp edge and start to 'feather out' a bit and have to be replaced. Maybe because I work in acrylics. Also, I had to put snow on my snow scene pines and messed up a few in the process, losing all the nice detail work on them. I started to just very judiciously put dots and vertical dashes of snow mostly on the tips of the outside branches with a small pointed round brush, and not the small fan brush I'd been using and that helped a lot. I also put enough blue into the snow mix so there wouldn't be too strong a contrast with the dark branches, and also watered it down a lot, again to reduce contrast.
    However, it would really be a big help if you could show how you would go about putting a dusting of snow on your pines without losing all the realistic detail. I learn so much from you. Chuck. A big thanks from Upstate New York for all your help and great advice.

    • @chuckblackart
      @chuckblackart  5 років тому +1

      Thanks for the great feedback, I'm for sure going to be getting out more this winter and gathering reference for snow-covered pine trees and similar things. So expect some snow videos in the next 6 months. Yeah the dagger brush that I have here will lose its edge after a few paintings for me. But the brush still is very useful after that 4 similar things as well. I use a brush cleaner and gently wash it with that and soap and water each time I use it which seems to help maintain its edge. I've also become very careful with how I use it, only using it for parts where I'm brushing very gently. Anyways thanks again so much
