You know, I just learned something from this video. Even if it looks weird keep going. I can't tell you the times I have stopped because it just didn't look right. Thank you for sharing your experiences and expertise. I really appreciate you.
It's a good thing you've discovered, imho, and I've been painting for many, many decades, well into the old fart decades! haha I realized a while back that areas that look weird, might be the new, creative territory my artistic self was moving into. Unfamiliar and weird perhaps, but not something I should paint over. So it takes careful observation and some contemplation sometimes (or a lotta times!) I suspect I just might have erased some good painting from time to time through the years :( Oh well, I don't beat myself up... I will keep going! I want to see what's around the next corner :)

It is of great help to be able to see the reference photo all the time. It shows what you’re aiming at and how you’re tackling it. You, indeed, are very generous for sharing your painting process with us. Please keep the reference photo in the frame in all your videos. Thank you.
Thank you for discussing your "failures" and how these become learning experiences. It is good for us novices to know that even seasoned artists struggle with their work at times. You have inspired me to persevere.
Out of all of the videos I've seen...I actually watch (and listen) to yours.Thank you for your time, and I agree, actually doing it is the only way to improve.Lately, I've found myself watching more than doing.. lol 😊
I had stopped acrylic painting a maybe 6-8 months ago and recently decided to pick up the brush again. This video was a much-needed learning experience! Thanks, Chuck.
Chuck, It's a great painting lesson. One hour to learn how to paint a river is wonderfull. I already paint rivers, but not with the same level of details as you. I learned two big things: How to mix colours gradually on the palette, and how to create shadows and lights on the canvas step by step. Great lesson, Chuck. Thank you ! Here, in France, we had some days with snow ! Spring isn't yet arrived..... Michel, the french little artist.
Thanks Michel, love to hear that you're learning some from my videos. We woke up with an inch here yesterday as well! Counting the days down too good weather is rough 😀
I was getting ready to try painting water in a lake scene and I didn't know where to start, that was the best way to start...you made it make sense! Thank you, and you are right...you learn the foundation, then go for it! A mistake is just a stepping stone in education. God Bless!
Hi, Chulk, you teach not only painting in detail but also how to become a real artist. You are truly an inspiration, I learn so much from you. Thank you so much.
Thank you! Painting water has been a struggle... I definitely learned a lot from this video and continue to practice. You are such a good teacher and a kind soul to share your knowledge. Please know that what you do is VERY appreciated!
Chuck, you are an amazing instructor, thank you for slowing down the videos it is helpful to all who is learning. I was disappointed that I didnt get to see the completion, but I appreciated that you take the time to teach others. You have been given a special gift, thank you for sharing it with others. Keep teaching, there are so many people that truly appreciate what you are doing :)
I’m so glad I ran across your channel...I’ve had “painter’s block” for over a year now, due to a tragic time in my life, and your video’s have gotten me back into my art. Thank you for that!
Thrank you very much for the master class! I watch your lessons without sound, because i dont know English. And still, everything is clear to me, and beautiful pictures are obtained.
You are a fantastic artist. I've learned a lot watching you on various subjects like water and hair. Thanks so much for your honesty and great ability to teach those of us that struggle to make our paintings look real.
You, Chuck, without a doubt, have one of the best art tutorial channels available. I just love your work, your mentoring and easy-going way of teaching. Thanks so much.
Thanks Chuck... you continue to be an inspiration to me. I'm self taught from the internet as I don't have time to take formal lessons, and your classes I find brilliant. If you ever make it down under we would love to show you the beauty of our country.
I just got into painting and water has been my stumbling block, I appreciate you taking the time to explain your thought process as well as demonstrating how you go about approaching it, I learned a lot from this one video, And as you know, confidence goes a long way...excellent paintings...btw
Thank you, this was so helpful to me. You broke it down into something that isn't as intimidating as I thought. I've always struggled thinking it was too complicated and way over my learning skills. I appreciate your explanation, thanks again.
Thank you Chuck! I am starting a new landscape with a water element. Your video was really helpful. Please let me know if you have a video on how to paint waterfalls.
I missed the first parts but I have learned a lot. I understand that we must do it on our own through trial and error. There's nothing wrong with picking up tips from other artists in order to develop a style. This particular painting has sparked my true interest in landscapes. I can't wait to get started! Thank you, Chuck! This painting is very lovely!
Must use the burnt umber today. I’ve always used red, yellow and blue to achieve my browns and greys. It makes so much sense to use burnt umber with the primaries. Thanks for the tip.
Your talent is amazing! Everything you do looks like a beautiful photograph! At the same time you make it look easy, but very detailed with a lot of love, passion and patience in what you do!
This is much better than what I do lol...I just blend colours till I like it, then add either pure white or muted white lines for rippling water...people say it looks realistic, but this brings out so much more. Great video and I like how you follow the reference but also add in your own creativity. :)
I am so very impressed with the entire work in this video. I am just a brand new, advanced age budding artist. I am trying to soak up every bit of knowledge I am able (although my brain, like a computer, has a hard drive that wherein some information is being overwritten. Hopefully I will still remember my name at the end of all this wonderful information. Thank you for taking the time to share your talent and techniques with all of us.
I have watched this several time and have been practicing but still have not got it yet. You make it look so easy, but when I do it, it doesn't look the same. More practice I know!
Chuck, thanks again for another great instructional video. As someone who does a fair amount of that subject as well, it was interesting to see how you incorporated a sense of flow and movement to the water to give the impression of a flowing stream. Very helpful tips on how to make that work. Excellent! Hope we get to see more of this kind of instruction in the future.
Hi Chuck Thank you for showing your great works. I have enjoyed painting your style of paintings for over fifty years and have sold hundreds but if I had seen your lessons my paintings would have been much better. Thanks again.
Chuck, I sure appreciate and thank you for the detailed instruction in this video! Just yesterday I was discussing a mountain and water scene I am going to paint for someone using one of their photos from their trip out west as a reference. Even though you made this video a while back, I could not have come upon it at a more perfect time because the wheels in my head were turning as to the best way to go about the water. I was amazed by how much that last minute addition of light highlights added to the central interest of the painting. As always, thank you for sharing your experience with us and for being humble enough to admit you're always learning and that you, too, have failures along the way. That absolutely inspires novices like me to keep working at it and improving. It's easy to give up when you feel overwhelmed by a particular painting but you are like the calm in the storm saying, it's okay.
Thank you for doing this video! I have learned a lot about painting water. I was stuck on a painting with the water and you helped me tremendously. Beautiful painting and thank you!
Great video - they keep getting better. Thank you for including reference photos as it gives me perspective how you interpret them. Love the pallet mixing. Disappointed with oil exclusion.
Excellent video Chuck! Was stumped on creating a realistic waterway in two of my paintings and after many UA-cam views, yours popped up! Sure wish I would have just searched yours out first! Carry on and we’ll keeping being educated and fulfilled. Much obliged! Ter
Thank you so much, awsome painting and tutorial, just love the way you go back and forth ading more details, more highlights, more shadows makes your painting realy stand out. About the last part you are so right and there is so much value in your words, you make aspiring artists such as me feel good and and confident and never see a failure as a failure but as a way to improve our selves and learn from them.(sorry about my writing mistakes😊) Thank you once again for being such a wonderful person and teacher😍
Thanks for a wonderful viewing, like your style and sharing your knowledge with us public...and each and every person have their own character which makes it so interesting.
Great video and awesome explanations. I am a visual learner, and I really appreciate the step by step clear instructions. I only have one observation, your brim on your hat sometimes covers the area you are working in. But, I am sure you are like my husband who never went anywhere without his hat on. Although he never wore it in the house. 😆. Thank you for the great video.

The way you explain things is very helpful but, I myself learn better if I can follow what is being shown at the same time as the teacher is doing it also. Would love to see you do a waterfall painting sometime also.

That last bit of white you added to the water right before you went to your oils was a brilliant finale' to the acrylics. Beautiful!

Just now getting to watch this. What a gorgeous painting! Thanks.
I am learning so much about mixing colors from your videos. You are truly amazing. Thanks for making these videos.
LOVE how you teach
Thanks for sharing all your micro lessons with us! I’m so surprised by all the colors in the water! You’re awesome!👏🏼💕👍🏼
Thanks Chuck. I apply your teachings to my digital paintings!
So far looking great water movement!
Love this painting. You've shown me a different approach to painting water. Than you.
Awesome to hear, Amanda! You are welcome
And your mountain is absolutely stunning. I love painting mountains but they never look this good!
U r such an amazing artist .. thanks a lot for this video it was of tremendous help .. lots of love
Thanks a stack we never too professional or too old to learn more and other technics...merci beaucoup!
Thank you so much!!!! I started on water today and didn't have a clue, this helps tremendously.
Thanks again for the great tutorial. Would be reall keen to see a pinting with rock and stones under and above water.
Thank you so much. That was very, very helpful, and I will watch it again.
Newbie at painting here, and am so much less intimidated by water! Thank you!
Really practical way to do it , very well demonstrated. Thank you so much.
its very good lesson gives you sir and its very beautiful painting
Great painting and very useful tips
Thank you so much for this lesson I have been painting some of Fritz Thaulow that was noted for his water. I really think this will help me.
Hi.Chulk. I learn so much from you. Thank you.
Wonderful to hear, thank you as well! You are most welcome

C'est très très beau ! Magnifique ! J'aime beaucoup !
Really great job this helped me grasp the ripple technique I am trying to achieve on my portrait ❤️
Thank you so much. No worries about the footage . You are the best teacher.
Any chance you could teach on sea water ripples?

Fantastic painting thks for the water tips that's one of the hardest things are to me. George
You are a fantastic teacher. Thank you so much!
The water reflection is awesome ! Your tactic is so much easier than what my teacher taught ....haha...
Appreciate the encouragement and sharing your expertise :)
Hi Chuck I always enjoy watching your videos, thank you for taking the time to share your wonderful talent.
Very very nice! Chuck, you're done! I have a drawing water is always a problem😟. I really like that in your video everything in detail. I am from Russia. I don't know what you're saying. So it's good that you show a palette, close-up. Everything is super! Looking forward to your next work!!! The picture turned out very beautiful!!!
Thank you! Love to have you here. I really appreciate all your words and for following, thank you for commenting
Thank you, very much. I needed to see how to do it.
Watching you paint works much better than my chill meds :) That painting looks amazing btw! :D
I'm sure you've heard this before, but you are amazing!
Wow! Stunning work!
Very informative thanks...and no annoying music
great job! I learned a lot from you!
thank you very much!
This looks awesome man, I am just starting to want to learn how to do water in more detail like this, as opposed to a basic blanket blended cloudish sort of water scene.
Your video def illustrates some very helpful techniques I am going to try.

I would really like to see you paint rapids and waterfall!
