    I love Eternal Sonata.
I find security in the fact that Clemps derives some form of enjoyment out of Dirge of Cerberus, and thus cannot give me *shit* about the above statement.

    • @novikovPrinciple

But honestly, while playing, I watched Claves, half-perplexed at why this dumbass spent an entire scene monologuing and flashbacking instead of, I dunno, _finding a god damn antidote?_
Well, if there's anything that can rival how much I love the game's setting and music, then it's how much I love just *wailing* on its idiocy.

It's interesting that the dream factor is what made it meaningless for you. For me I the figured the game was about Chopin coping with the sickly life he led and his rapidly approaching death and completing the game is essentially allowing him to finally pass on having grieved healthily. The dream is the last chance at closure for a man who was very physically ill most of his life. Really good video!

It's weird. I know I HEARD all of your legitimate complaints about this game, and I agreed with them, but then I saw visible damage numbers ranging in the tens of thousands, and suddenly I couldn't remember any of them. When I woke up, the game was in my hand and my wallet was lighter.

yes but those don't work well when you perform them on yourself. A healer here so I know from experience. Putting your mind into someone else body is much much easier than yourself. • @Zodia195
      @Zodia195 2 роки тому

Same, it's still my fav game, however, I still have complaints, especially in the gameplay. I loved the gameplay of the XBox version, but I didn't like the changes they made in the PS3, like making the like changing the positions of the foes on the map and making the difficulty harder on normal. And even in the original, there was the unfortunate trope of "difficulty spikes", but it was worse in the PS3. I had to grind more in order to have a chance at certain bosses, especially since I at least wanted to get 100% completion (yes I did Encore). So I'd rather play the XBox version, even though PS3 has more content and better changes to the story. I just love the setting, the complex story telling, and the romance. Music and art are gorgeous and it made me laugh. Astra of the Heart is still one of my fav pieces of video game music (and it's on my playlist). My theory with the 'dream' is that Chopin's soul just traveled to another dimension. Time travel exists, so why not dimensional travel? Like I said, I love complex ideas and stories, heck it's why I love Kingdom Hearts so much hahaha.

While I can see the flaws, I really liked Eternal Sonata. Somehow I found the whole premise just fascinating. I liked learning about Chopin's live by playing a JRPG. Falsetto is #1 grill.Above all, the game is really fun, the light/dark special moves and combat mechanics just work very well. The art style and music is easy 10/10.

  • @sparkymagnet

Had the same reaction though i didnt hate the story that much. The music, fun combat, and graphics are super fantastic. Something you should have mentioned was that between chapters you get a little history lesson about Chopin's life. It stops the game completely in its tracks but I like history so I enjoyed it.

That ending looks significantly better than the ending on the 360 version. Waltz actually dies in the first encounter (with no death cutscene, he was just implied to die from the fight, it felt really bittersweet) and his servant turns into the giant dragon as an act of betrayal, becoming the final boss of his own accord. After you beat him and Chopin (I never actually lost to Chopin so I don't know if that version had that ending or not), you see Polka fall off the cliff, and then get a long slew of cutscenes where every character talks over that black background where all they do is rehash the small bits of character development they've had over the game. Then it just kind of ends. No real explanation about what happens or anything.

Ive actually found this game to be quite an enjoyable one if you don't think too hard and nitpick the details, you can kind of take the story as Chopin coming to terms with his death, I mean throughout the game you get these neat little "breather" moments where they play some of Chopin's scores and give you mini history lessons on his life, I...actually teared up a little bit, his life was pretty hard and I genuinly felt sorry for the guy, and that's saying something since I'm not much of a History Nerd.
also with the bad end its actually Chopin wakes up then immediately dies, essentially destroying/reseting the dreamworld and passing on in ours.

Have you any idea of how ridiculous the characters' names could seem to an Italian?! When you introduced them I was in part saying "No . . . Oh, no . . . Please no!", and in part laughing so hard to almost have stomach ache.

outstanding video there clemps, you did a really great job on the comedy aspect and i do like that despite ragging on this game you still gave it some of its merits, i think this game is just a mess but god damn that soundtrack is amazing.

I picked up this game as a kid because of the graphics and the music concept, I actually have a soft spot for this game despite its flaws. I had no idea there was more than one ending though! (I hardly used Frederick so he was pretty easy) great video though, got a good chuckle out of me, especially the Aladdin references

I played and beat this game back int he day and all I remember about it is: Dope character designs, Cool battle system, Terrible ending credits and falling in love with Chopans music.

A YMS fan, aren't we, Clemps? Nobody else could recognize the greatness of Neil Breen.
Haven't played this game yet. Been sitting on my shelf forever. But it looks gorgeous and I don't mind the insano-level of japanese RPGs, so I might as well give it a try at some point and build my own opinion.
As usual, your video is simply hilarious. You are quickly becoming one of my favorite content producers. I wish I had a similar output.

This used to be my favorite game of all time playing it as a kid. I absolutely adored the art style, music and combat. I haven't touched it since then and I'm happy I haven't now lmao.
Very entertaining video and a good revisit to one of my childhood games!

Honestly i wouldnt expect the everyday person to understand but this game is best off of the writings of the composer he was extremely depressed and anti social and created this fantasy world who ever made the game was obviously a fan of his

I actually quite liked Eternal Sonata, though I know it's not a great game. It definitely meanders around endlessly, and the endless flashbacks really killed me at times, but I like so many of its ideas. The execution is an inconsistent mess, but it definitely stands out to me as a game that tried a bunch of interesting things. I really like the premise, and I am a fan of Chopin, so maybe this game was just made specifically for me.
    Oh, and God bless Viola.

Oh thank god, i was about to destroy my keyboard nerdraging about you not liking the game and then you mentioned the music and the environment. I fricking love that game. Not as good as the king of rpgs (do i really need to name it heh?) but it certainly was a nice rollercoaster of a game.
