Fun fact the "chibi style" five and zero from the 4th wall break were actually designed by yoko taros wife, Yukiko Yoko who's known for Taiko no Tatsujin
I translated the first volume of the Drakengard 3 manga when it came out and actually had people accusing me of not translating what they were saying properly because that elf guy seemed too edgy and the shit with the dragon didn't make sense. This was way before the game came out and people realised how crazy fucking edgy Drakengard 3 was so people thought I was purposely edging up the translatation.
yeah, i was kinda wierded out when he said that. I mean, being a prostitute is fine, if we don't consider the age when she was a prostitute, but her life was horrible, a constant tragedy.
I imagine that this game was conceptualized after Square Enix telling Yoko Taro to make a sequel to the series since the second game didn’t do well after leaving him out for most of that game. Not wanting to but also needing another paycheck, he got drunk while watching Madoka Magica, wrote the whole thing down, woke up the next day, said “fuck it”, and handed it in.
The color coding make sense because you don't want your characters to hurt people's eyes with how many rainbow colors they have on them, you want them to have a limited amount of colors and ones I compliment each other at that.
Cent's voice is Liam O'Brien and he's awesome! He's the voice of Caius Ballad from Final Fantasy XIII-2 and Kain Highwind in Dissidia: Final Fantasy (the character is from FFIV). Also, the voice of Grimoire Weiss from Nier ;)
Yeah, one of my biggest issues with the third game was going into it expecting something like Drakengard 1 and/or Nier. So the tonal shift was like drinking juice when you were expecting milk. A pity you didn't see the nuances of Five's DLC... Truly a pity. (get the reference? no? k..) Yes, it was the weakest DLC, but it really showcases Five's mental illness, and how Dito finds a way to work together with her. It shows you that most of what constitutes her is lust and nothing else. Dito also speaks of this toward the end of his novella. (This all ties nicely with her final fight in Branch D) But of course, reading her Memoir and novella we can see this is not true. She does have a curiosity and a desire to be better and understand the world, but she doesn't seem to allow that side of her to grow. There is good in her, deep, deep down somewhere. I find her to be a very tragic character. Still, far from my favorite though.
There are no nuances in Five's DLC. Going purely by the DLC, one would naturally conclude that she's literally a character _without_ nuance. She's a one-dimensional character driven by her lusts, as stated at the start of the prologue. Only in her final fight in Branch D do we see an alternate side to her. Only in the novellas and Memoirs do we see this alternate side to her. It doesn't express itself at all in the DLC and so Five's DLC really is quite pointless.

I came here expecting a well thought out, entertaining look on a game I never got to play from a series I enjoy and instead I'm blindsided by disgusting anti-elfslaughter propaganda. It's disgusting what people are allowed to put in the public eye these days.
And Cent eventually became a a certain talkative book? Maybe not actually canonically, but they're both Liam O'Brian, so I'm going to keep telling myself that, haha.
I might be looking into it too much but the DLC story with Two and Cent really made me think of the Pascal choice with the children in Nier Automata. The parallels are certainly there imo but let me know if anyone else noticed that too.
I always wanted to play this game. I love the character designs, and the story has always sounded interesting to me. Unfortunately, every time I've tried to play it, the audio was severely fucked up. So here I am, watching videos on it and the other Drakengards so I can see the full scope of things after finishing Nier Automata.
I'm not a fan of how Zero got blindsided a lot in the game. When the Cerberus head attacked her, when those Orcs ambushed her in the cave, the Titans ambushing her in the forest, Ending A, I think Ending E (haven't read it yet but I think she gets backstabbed by brother One). Maybe forgetting some. It got kinda old and annoying but hey I guess she's too op in 1v1 and gotta show those regen powers and endings somehow, heh. Also to summarize her backstory as "she was a sex worker" is just... wut. Speaking of which that stuff REALLY should have been in the game imo. I guess there is only so much you can do when your entire development budget is 5 dollars and a sandwich. Oh and yeah that entire sequence when Five starts screaming to summon the angel and the music starts playing is just bueno. I'll never get tired of it.
Same here, but I would've liked it better if each level had a big open world to play. Flying on Mikial (spelled his name wrong) would've been so much fun. Aside from that, I still love the game so much. But, the frame rate is what turned me off the most.
I'm guessing the events of Drakengard 1 Ending E that caused them to transport to Tokyo somehow also caused a copy of the city to appear in this world in the past.
Clemps, I think your voice has gotten higher. You sound much more mature in this video then you do now. That being said, your editing is about the same quality and your jokes are way better.
pause at 2:25, and take a goood long look at the dragons on either side of the picture, kind of the longest of long shot but I think those may be references to Angelus and Legna since Angelus is the only dragon we know who has horns that curve upwars like that and the black one looks pretty much like Legna did
I loved Drakengard 3. I don't feel it's delightfully messed up as the first, but it's still messed up. I would have loved to know what the characters were like before the localizers got to it.

I know I’m late but the true form of the disciples is the dove form because when the intoners were born, Zero sent them to calm her sisters which they eventually used to create the disciples.
You know, I'm getting this weird whiff of one of MGSV: TPP's problems. It looks like Taro had a bunch of different ideas, but the publisher only felt safe working on Drakengard rather than let him run with a new IP again. A lot of it feels out-of-place and haphazard, and I feel like - with some much needed dev time - this game might have been better if it wasn't Drakengard.
+PoliteTimesplitter I honestly think that Access Games really limited Yoko Taro on what he could do. His beginning ideas with the high school and the cell phone calling a dragon were rejected. The gameplay was already decided before him, so he couldn't do much. He even mentioned in a magazine that he was forced to make a "normal game" storywise. I have to wonder what if they didn't limited him. I think he did the best he could with the whole thing. I wish they should of let him do more of his magic. I hope this makes sense.
I will never understand why sex is so scary in some people mind but slaughter is OK. I love that this game doesn't give a fuck about prudism and goes 100% on sex. It's a normal thing.
Man, my friends sent me here for the drakengard/nier content because its my favourite series, but im staying for the quality and comedy. Top tier this is 👌🖤💜 - Pixie
Drakengard 3 was my first Drakengard game :) I actually really loved it despite a lot of people not enjoying it. I adored Zero as a character and had a good bit of fun jumping all over huge bosses.
lunerblade13 Unintentional. They're reinforcing Two's subjects with the power of Two's song, thinking well, why not? Everyone being stronger, where's the harm in that? But the Intoners song had that kind of effect, which is unknown to anyone at that point. Both Two and Cent are, or were genuinely good people, if you can call them people that is. That's why they suffered the most.
I mean, in the real world, the best equivalent for what they did is taking a drug that seemed to work well for something else, and then giving to everyone whom you think needs it with no testing or control of any kind. In other words, a huge violation of medical ethics, and something that would land anyone responsible for it in jail. It's actually ironic that this is the one time where Three would have had been more responsible, because she at least understands what testing is, even if she only uses it for cruel reasons. As far as Three's and Two's prologues go, it's actually Two who ends up with a much higher body count at the end. Three had definitely beaten it by the time the main game rolls around, unfortunately, since she only continues the experiments, but the point still stands. In fact, according to the notes of Three's DLC, a Three's Cyclops retains *far* more of their sanity then Two's zombie soldier.
Hmmm... I'd like the story more if it didn't try so hard to throw in some middle school humor or random 4th wall breaking scenes. To make this game perfection they should throw Octa's personality into a shredder and tone down Zero's angst. SPOILERS: For someone who was sold into prostitution, Zero sure does love being a homewrecker and sex.
Wait wait wait,,,, if One made her brother from her rib wouldnt that make them similar to Adam and Eve? and we already have an Adam and Eve in Automata that have very very similar parallels to One and her brother. If anything this just further connects the Adam and Eve in Automata to The Watchers wow holy sh*t
When it says that Four was in a state of "sublime exhilaration", what is that supposed to mean? The reason why it somewhat irritates me is because it seems to me that while Four is happy to deal absolute justice, it's as though the game is trying to say that since Four, just like a villain, is merciless to her enemy, she too is ultimately _just as bad as the enemy._ This would link with a "there is no objective morality, everything is relative" kind of message which just seems unnatural since the stories of these games have seemingly never tried to have a point and merely provided us with a window into a messed-up world. Is it possible though that she really was just happy to inflict suffering and destruction, using justice as a mere excuse? It's very odd to me because no other parts of her behaviour seem to hint at any kind of sadism. She seems to genuinely care for One and admire Zero and envy Two's romance. I wish some more detail went into this.
"It's as though the game is trying to say that since Four, just like a villain, is merciless to her enemy, she too is ultimately just as bad as the enemy." This is exactly what the game was trying to say. If you read her notes in the DLC, its shown she harbours a lot of ill intent towards the other Sisters in her Diary. Four is not a good person, and she gets pleasure from sadism and uses justice as a cover.
Four is a sadist, which is why Decadus is a masochist. Every Intoner has a disciple that complements them. The twisted thing about Four, though, is that she wants to be a goody-goody... and rather than engaging in self-reflection and, say, channeling her urges in a positive or at least non-harmful direction (the entire reason Decadus exists!), she is in complete denial. She just assumes she is a good person and is always doing the right thing.
@Clemps I very much disagree that Four is a sadist. Four as a character is defined by her massive inferiority complex towards her sisters, and her sheer hate towards basically the entire world. She despises herself to the bone, and hates her sisters for constantly reminding her of that by existing (Her constant criticism of her sisters is her attempt to make herself feel better about herself, and when you look more closely you see that she looks up to and envies all of them. Even Five). She's paranoid, to the point where she starts executing people for being agents of "the enemy" in Route E. She deals with stress so badly she has just starts rampaging and wrecking everything around her at times. She isn't strong enough to demand what she wants, so she tries to get it by passively leaving hints, and gets even more frustrated with herself and with the world when that inevitably fails (Her relationship with her Decadus for example). Putting it simply, she's a pathetic, fearful, neurotic mess of a person. And to cope with that, she made up her "kind, gentle, responsible and righteous" person, so that she'll have _something_ going for her that her sisters don't. Problem is, Four isn't mentally strong enough to _actually_ delay gratifications and control her urges, so it doesn't actually make her feel any better in the long term. So at the end of the day, she still has to vent all of her pent up frustrations, and she does it in the only way she knows, rampaging and lashing out at everything around her. So, in any case, my point is that Four doesn't actually enjoy murder for the sake of murder. She isn't Dito. For her, it's just a tool to rid herself of her anxiety and self-loathing for just a short while, and thus deal with her shitty, genuinely pitiable existence. Like punching your pillow when you're angry. Only the pillow is a bunch of innocent people and the punching is committing Elven genocide. Now, was that long ass paragraph needed for me to explain that? Probably not, but Four is my favorite character in Drakengard 3 and I need to gush.
Is it every explained why D3 has all this anachronistic technology compared to the first two despite being a prequel? Also, Clemps, are you familiar with the timeline connections between D3 and D1 and how needlessly complicated it is?
What "anachronistic" technology is found in Drakengard 3? I vividly recall One talking about how there are some magic spells which even _they,_ the Intoners can't use because those techniques are too advanced. When you say "technology", do you mean the magic in the world? Or do you mean technology in the conventional sense?
Erm, what? Empire uses a ton of airships in Drakengard 1. If you watch a freaking *trailer* for Drakengard 1, it shows an aerial mission where Caim destroys airships at one point. There are armored warships there as well - same as in 3, and both are equipped with cannons - again, same as in 3. As to where they came from in the first place, it's pretty much all but stated outright that they figured out how to make these after doing their best to reverse-engineer from what they found in the Cathedral City (aka Tokyo) for the 150 years between 865 (the arrival of the Cathedral City to Europe, and magic in general), and 1000 (start of Drakengard 3).
Branch A leads to Shi ni Itaru Aka (Manga he mentioned in the end. Read it if you wanna feel miserable.) and the Drakengard 1.3 which is a alternate retelling of the first game. Real ending is in the novelization of the game. It's like combination of Ending A and B.

10:02 You missed a perfectly good pun. Fists are slow but back a lot of PUNCH.
Comedy gold you're passing up.
I love that you use FFIX's soundtrack for the videos. It's personally my overall favorite OST I think.
I actually like this game so far, but this video is entertaining.
"Once upon a time *m a n y m o o n s a g o* "
Clemps, I think your voice has gotten higher. You sound much more mature in this video then you do now. That being said, your editing is about the same quality and your jokes are way better.
Fun fact: Octa is played by THE Todd Haberkorn.
7:44 I just keep coming back to this video to listen to that transition because damn it gives me chills
pause at 2:25, and take a goood long look at the dragons on either side of the picture, kind of the longest of long shot but I think those may be references to Angelus and Legna since Angelus is the only dragon we know who has horns that curve upwars like that and the black one looks pretty much like Legna did
Very informative, very sarcastic. Good work my friend!
I loved Drakengard 3. I don't feel it's delightfully messed up as the first, but it's still messed up.
I would have loved to know what the characters were like before the localizers got to it.
"MUSIC:
[To be filled in]" That was a year ago. Think you could fill that in? I really wanna know, there was some good music in there!
SUPER late reply, and I haven't watched the video yet, but just from the fact you want to listen to the music I can take a wild guess at the tracks that were included:

@@RemnantProductionsAMV thanks]
I know I’m late but the true form of the disciples is the dove form because when the intoners were born, Zero sent them to calm her sisters which they eventually used to create the disciples.
I suggest reading the Tie-in manga
It was messed up. But....it had sex, so that makes it okay then.
Puppr In a Tea cup I mean yeah but before that though
Shock Vox Still has pedophilia
What tie in manga?
Songs: To be filled in.
Me: And he never did.
You can still find them now.
@@adamofblastworks1517 where at?
Wait, Clemps
Did you narrate those DLC Segments for the video, or was someone in the game that just sounds like you?
Was me!
The VAs of the featured intoner of the prologue is what narrates them.
22:46 I READ THAT MANGA YEARS AGO AND DIDNT KNOW IT WAS FROM A GAME...... WHAT!?
Haven't finished your analysis yet, but the music intro difference between 2 and 3's analysis is fantastic
20:10 Tears are rolling down my face. God damn what an amazing edit
which meltdown was that one?
Man, my friends sent me here for the drakengard/nier content because its my favourite series, but im staying for the quality and comedy. Top tier this is 👌🖤💜 - Pixie
Drakengard 3 was my first Drakengard game :) I actually really loved it despite a lot of people not enjoying it. I adored Zero as a character and had a good bit of fun jumping all over huge bosses.
I personally love mikhail. Everything that makes you cringe about him makes me smile.
18:00 was cent loyal to two. was he responsible to what happened to the kids or was it a pure accident.
lunerblade13 Unintentional.
You're awesome for this sir!!!
This is My second favorite Yoko Taro game after automata. I dont even know why i Love IT so mutch but it's amazing
That transition from five's song to the boss theme was fucking sick.
Music to be filled in? Clemps, you are fired.
Drakengard 3 is a mess but man if the singing transitioning into the boss theme isn’t the coolest use of a game ost
"It's as though the game is trying to say that since Four, just like a villain, is merciless to her enemy, she too is ultimately just as bad as the enemy."
This is exactly what the game was trying to say. If you read her notes in the DLC, its shown she harbours a lot of ill intent towards the other Sisters in her Diary. Four is not a good person, and she gets pleasure from sadism and uses justice as a cover.
So it's a "How much good can a terrible person do and still be considered terrible" kind of thing?
At least Four just discriminate non-human species. She not entirely evil.
@Clemps
I very much disagree that Four is a sadist. Four as a character is defined by her massive inferiority complex
towards her sisters, and her sheer hate towards basically the entire world.
On god I thought 5’s scream was Clemps joking around lmfaoooo
Is it every explained why D3 has all this anachronistic technology compared to the first two despite being a prequel?
Also, Clemps, are you familiar with the timeline connections between D3 and D1 and how needlessly complicated it is?
What "anachronistic" technology is found in Drakengard 3? I vividly recall One talking about how there are some magic spells which even _they,_ the Intoners can't use because those techniques are too advanced. When you say "technology", do you mean the magic in the world? Or do you mean technology in the conventional sense?
Cesariono The conventional sense. It could just be that Clemps never showed it, but things like the airships don't seem to be in prior games.
Pat sent me here
Just remember. It's not a crime if it's an elf.
16:21 And the voraphiles thank you. :) It's not gonna' convince me to give this game another try, though.
I guess Branch A lead to the the first Drakengard. It seems to make the most sense at least. Though ending E could also lead to it... Perhaps.
The Pickle Surprise earned you a sub.
God the music at 20:50 feels nostalgic but i cant remember where its from
this is one of my favorite games :)
