  • Don't expect a 60Hz monitor to get 100Hz (or something that high), some monitors don't even get 65Hz but here's some methods that can help you overclock your monitor.

    For my monitor, it has options on lower resolutions to have 75fps. So I created a custom resolution which is for 1080p and changed it to 75fps. I feel like this is the safest way of doing it, as its still an fps the monitor is build to handle, just not at that resolution. going higher than that just seams like your asking for trouble. so ye, find what your highest fps is at lower resolutions and try that with your native resolution.

      yep, monitor still works. Also what MrCoolBossMan-cum said is true, ye it still lowers the lifespan. but thats to be said with any overclocking. the lifespan difference though will be so small, it doesn't matter. you'll probably get a new monitor in the time it dies on you.

    I got my monitor from a normal 60Hz all the way to a unusually stable 75Hz.
    Thinking Display method (HDMI, DVI, VGA) might also affect the highest possible picture stream. Good example is my secondary monitor (900p), which got a good 75 on it's own. 80 it did display, but only having a good chunk of tearing. The HDMI option made it go all the way onto 95Hz.

    nVidia TIP: If the screen is glitchy or pixelated when using a higher refresh rate on some resolution and it looks bad (not because of the lower resolution, but because the screen may be like extremely pixelated) then try making a custom resolution, go to Standard (u must press the arrow that is left from Timing when making a custom resolution) and then make it CVT Reduced Blank, try if this helps, also if u are using a really low resolution this will make it look better too :).

    • @JustKiX
      @JustKiX 7 років тому +2

      i think it's because an cable quality,when im using HDMI it work properly, and when im using dvi port it goes pixelated, I tested it on same resolution and same hertz, maybe it helps XD

    • @leooooooooooo3188
      @leooooooooooo3188 7 років тому

      Yeah also that, but it worked for me on low resolutions when i had a DVI cable for some reason (it only didn't work on the native resolution), and before that i had a HDMI cable and it worked on the native resolution, but now i have a HDMI too and it only works on lower resolutions.

      Or you can look at which resolution your monitor supports 75hz, let's say 1280x1024, then create the closest but lower resolution that is 16:9 with 75hz refresh rate, in this case 1280x720/75hz. Most of the time your monitor will warn you if there is a risk with your custom settings and tell you to put it back to what's recommended or it will automatically reset after a little moment (for example if you try extreme settings like 1920x1080/90hz, or sometimes it will do the same for anything more than 60hz at the highest resolution).

    I m using CRU for last 3 years. I have overclocked my monitor to 74 Hz and its feels too smooth. Both in Game and Normal usage it feels so good. Now I can't go back to 60 Hz.

    I over clocked my 240hz monitor to 60hz thanks it works great now. love the extra lag and latency! I tried to over clock to 30hz and it just kept flashing so I think 60hz is the best I could do.

      @Froo if you cant get your 240hz moniter down to 30hz you can always just download some ram. worked for me stopped all the flashing.

      @Froo for real though I built a gaming pc for the family recently I have 3 kids. so I got the asus 64.5" gaming moniter as a living room tv. its actually only 144hz @ 4k. its got logitech wireless gaming mouse and key board so I sit on my couch and play and so do the kids. its more of a living room entertainment system than anything.

    But is it safe to underclock the refresh rate, like dropping it from the native 144Hz to 120Hz?
    Common sense is telling me that as far as your monitor supports variable refresh rates, you are free to set it anywhere inside the range the variable refresh rate works. Also, most displays that come with high refresh rates like 144Hz, allow switching between the high refresh rate and a 60Hz mode.
    In my case, I have a 1920x1080@144Hz laptop display that supports AMD Free-sync which only becomes active from 60fps - 144fps in games.
    So I used CRU (Custom Resolution Utility) to go from 144Hz to 120Hz.
    Is this safe?

    • @hemiy
      @hemiy 2 роки тому +3

      This is completely safe because ur lowring the things monitor can do

    If you have an old monitor, lets say at 768p you can overclock the hell out of it without breaking it and it will hold up perfectly almost at 80hz with no problem due to the low native resolution and the high bandwith of a HDMI connector when it comes to lowres. I've been doing this for 5 years now on an old rig and it works like a charm.
