Long time Gunlancer here. On the subject of back hops, I recommend everyone to check out pivot hopping. It’s some old school tech that increases your mobility by a fair amount. Basically, you flip around and back hop towards the monster, and it’s actually not too hard to do. There’s plenty of videos that explain how to do it, and it’s a great skill to learn.
Fun fact: you can change the angle of your charged shell by moving the left joystick up and down while your shell is charging. Every time you change angle the charge resets. It's not super useful, but it can come in handy and it's really fun after a hunt to juggle your charged shell for as long as possible. 😬
I use Long 6 with earplugs 5, evade window 5, artillery 5 and heath boost and recovery up 3 and evade extended 3. I call it the “Big Comfy Couch” loadout. It’s amazing.
Voidjitsu Sure! Safi Venombuster (Element doesn’t matter, I just like the purple color) with Zorah Essence, Slot IV, 2x Sharpness V, and Shelling Long II. Zorah Head alpha, Zorah Chest alpha, Silver Rath Arms Beta, Namielle Gamma Waist, Silver Rath Legs beta and Earplug Charm IV. Decos from top to bottom are: EvasionJewel+, Destroyer/Medicine, 2x Evasion, Earplug, Artillery, Charger/Vitality, Magazine, Charger/Vitality, Evasion, Charger/Vitality, Medicine, Medicine. Augments are 2xHealth, 1Defense.
Ah the mighty boomstick Shelling or slapping, liking both Little tipp, prioritize evade extender and evade window over constitution and other stamina skills it will safe you more then hopping one more timeand with guard five you safe when you cant hopp Protectiv polish is a good skill for gunlance to maintane the sharpness of the weapon At the end its the personal preference of skills
Razor sharp and True Razor are overlooked imo in shelling playstyles. Long Gunlance in particular is so light on DPS skills that you can actually accommodate TSS pretty easily with a Safi GL. It makes sharpness management a non issue and is particularly nice for solo hunting. Similarly, two piece Silverlos is often used to make Slinger capacity really make a noticeable difference and it's easy to accommodate. But if you wanna prioritize other stuff like TSS or Stamina management over Slinger 5, I'd still recommend fitting in just one level of slinger capacity as it increases the most common slinger types you'll find near campsites and in the field when prepping. Blight resistance is also pretty useful so you arent compelled to slowly sheathe your weapon and start rolling around or popping nullberries every time you get burned or iceblighted or anything else. It's a serious dps downtime that you cant afford with a wyvern stake applied especially. That being said some setups could just eat for elemental resistance and be good but it's still a cheap investment to just go Blight Resistance.
As a GL main, the raging brachy GL broke me of full burst. You either charge shell but you can also poke shell for continued dmg. Then long is good as well because you won't miss as much. Although it's always fun full bursting a wrrrrrm-steak.
Marcin Wielbiński it does hit but long can reach farther. Although in the old MH. Wide shelling is strong with charged shells. So yeah it is still viable.
I added two Silver Rath pieces for that lv5 slinger capacity. Overall I love the skills I have. -Earplugs lv5 -Artillery lv5 -Slinger Capacity lv5 -Guard lv5 -Focus lv3 -Tremor Resist lv3 -Health Boost lv3 -Evade Extender lv2 -Flinch Free lv1 -Capacity Boost -Guard up And a single free slot to either add geology or fortify. I could remove Tremor Resist and add PP but my dmg doesn't go up due to the shelling fixed dmg. Tremor Resist is good against Safi tho.
I do like slinger capacity, but lv5 probably overly overkill. AT nami waist, evade ext 3 just too good for GL. 3 pieces of zorah AT nami waist and 1 S.los for slinger capacity are easiest combinations for all non GL main to start with and not far from any end game meta set.
A lot people thought about slinger capacity only extend the duration, spending sometime go and pick up another slinger ammo do not really matter. But that is not the full picture, it also allow your flinch shot not use up all your ammo, then you can just reload the wymstake right after flinch shot. That's the best time window to apply the WS at particular part of the monster when it is knocked down. Pick up slinger ammo twice is simply not quite possible in certain map or area. Shelling also do not bother about HZV, tenderize is quite necessary, it just feel very uncomfortable to me for sheathing + tenderize just to make slinger ammo.
part breaker should be a consideration. It helps to knockdown non-elder dragon monsters faster somehow it works on Kulve taroth evade windows as the late game monsters has some attacks that render guard 5 useless as high knockback reference: Caoslayer
Would prioritize evade window over guard 90% of the time, but you can always fit both with max health boost, guard up, earplugs, and extender. Pretty much all speedruns prioritize evade. Just a tip :)
i have NOT watched this video yet. i had to pause the video after starting it to get my laundry. ah the moment i paused you ask? "how do you like it? long?" and i knew it will be a good video.
That title is an extremely apt description. It never made sense to me that people would complain about Sticky's ease of use and ability to ignore hitzones when Long Gunlance was over on the side doing the exact same thing. The range on Long shells almost makes it a ranged weapon, anyway Kappa.
There is one thing it seems you didn't mention, gunlance has massive flinching capabilities, especially against monsters with hard hides, lavasioth for example gets flinched each 2 shells if his armor is hard, the number of shells may vary but the armor ignoring capacity of the gunlance makes it excellent at flinching
you can change the angle of the shots mid charge btw by using up and down as you are charging and you can also backhop to cancel attack. You can also change the angle of wyvern blast by using the slinger aim. The damage is signitifant and it has a 30 second cooldown with artillery secret and extra part damage. Highly recommend using where you can
Brachy gunlance is the best as wide 7 charged shell has higher DPS compared to the Safi long 6 gunlance. Still tho, the range on Safi gunlance should not be underestimated and it's just a matter of preference. I use both depending on the monster For wide (if you're not using poke + shell), I use Brachy armor with Furious Rajang legs. With the right decorations, I maxed out health, evade window, evade distance, guard, artillery, and focus. It even has slinger capacity 3, guard up, capacity boost, and other utility skills I put just because it has too much slot. It's the most versatile build that I've made because it has too many utility skills. A jack-of-all trade as I like to call it. There's a variation for this that I use for long gunlance but with the same skills and with slinger capacity 5. Gunlance to me is a kind of escape from the meta DPS skills like AB 7, Agi 7 and so on.. Shelling really changes your gameplay as it ignores hitzones
I main GL. But the play style I like is mixed with pokes. Even with a long shelling. And I like making odd builds for it. Rather than just focusing on shelling. Elemental build was the cool thing I made.
Im no gunlance main so please inform me how does elemental gunlance fares against raw/Artillery gunlance. Is it worth it to upgrade the kjaar gunlances in that regard?
Stephen John elemental GL is not Meta .. I use it for fun. I don’t like the kjarr GLs. great element but not enough sharpness, the lack of deco slot hurts a lot. I use safi gunlance. 3 element awakening, 1 sharpness and 1 shell type u want. I use 4 set of silver and head gear is brachy. I prefer slinger capacity secret than artillery secret cause I don’t like to put wyrmstake blast too often. And True Ele crit is a bunos for pokes. I don’t like running guard either as long as I have lvl 3 evade distance. Crit eye is not as necessary cause you’ll have WEX and your shells. It helped me solo alatreon.
I love tanking and holding aggro against safi with gl when hunting with randoms. Made a jack of all trades gl set. Full brachy with standard stuff and added wide range to help randoms
stamina thief lv 1 is really nice for creating an early opening for WSB and some free potshots with charged shelling. I made a Stam thief long build and it's pretty fun!
The list of needed skills for Long is actually much shorter: Artillery 5, Capacity Boost, Focus (2 or 3), Felyne Bombadier. That’s it. That’s all your dps skills, unless you want Slinger Capacity, as that’s also a dps skill when you take into account the amount of time you save not trying to get the 2nd/3rd Wyrmstake. Everything else is optional, which is why I love it. Also consider Guard 5 vs Evade Window 5. Dodging is generally better as you can dodge out of a charge, reposition through monster attacks, and can also be used instead of Guarding as you don’t get any guard stun frames. I have 2 general use armour sets that fit ready well. Zorah a head, G.rath b chest, Blackveil b arms, G.rath b waist, Zorah b legs. Zorah a head and chest, S.rath b arms and legs, and Namielle g waist. Both give a really good base to work from. The first one a tank build, and the second more of an open one. There’s more than enough slots in the pair of them to play as you like too. Welcome to Megumin fan club!
my immortal gunlance build uses the Vaal Soulvein passive with recovery up. Having recovery up makes health augment too good. It has earplugs 5 and evade extender and level 3 slinger, but it doesnt have stamina management skills. I personally don't think stamina is an issue with GL anyway. Skills: Earplugs 5 Art 5 Guard 5 Health boost 3 Recovery up 3 Recovery speed 3 focus 3 Evade extender 3 Slinger Cap 3 Capacity boost Guard up Art secret Vaal soulvein
If you ever play with a full burst normal GL get the razor sharp charm. I see lots of people with handycraft, but it melts your sharpness away like butter in the sun. Razor Sharp works pretty fine.
i like gunlance, 3rd most played weapon, but the way that wyrmstake is so essential and takes so long to perform and has a gigantic recovery frame kills it for me, hence why i mostly dont even use it and just go for wide shelling inbetween pokes and slaps with full brachydios armor
sharpness isn`t needed, cause you do the same shelling damage till its green. Vaal Lance is pretty good, two slots and you can fit lots of augments in it. 3 times Zorah with 2 part gold rath is a crazy tank build :D.
Hi. I don,t have safi gunlance. Can u recomend any other with long barrel? I just have the zinogre stigian and the raging brachidios gunlance. But i don't think no of then are long amunition.
I really like evade extender on SA as well and 2 is enough there really but that tentacle coil is so good.. Might as well use it if you're going EE lol
Since I don't play bowgun on PS4 controller (or something that isn't mouse+keyboard) so I pick gunlance It's technically melee if you fight at melee range right? Fun fact: wide charged shot on wyrmstake makes hiher dahe than the shelling itself
some tremor resistance is also very useful. Even more so than guard. With evade extender it's faster and easier to just hop out of the attack. Unless you facetanking Kulve's flamebreath. I prefer guard on wide gl with offensive guard. It's much easier to block with wide gunlance combos for extra DAMAGE. And long gl is better with poison in my opinion. You dont hit monster that often to ramp up sleep status. But few pokes will poison monster and give extra dmg (those juicy 100 per tick on Safi) Wide gl is 100% blast. Since you poke monster a lot Normal is better with sleep. With normal fullburst combo you hit monster a lot with melee attacks to trigger 2-4 sleeps. And that means extra wallbangs or wyvern blasts
@@reiizayoi3376 i did a bout a thousand silver tix and no shield jewel. The RNGesus either loves you or he doesn't. 2500 hours before it finally dropped and yeah i farmed lavasioth....a lot. i got the jewel when i was melding leftover hero streamstones at the melder.
@@pdureska7814 the Silver tickets DO NOT contain the set skill deccos. Sharp, Shield, Minds eye, Mighty bow etc are only found in the base game feystones (worn and warped ) and not in any Iceborn feystones/tickets. Capcom removed them from the Iceborn drop tables for both the feystones and tickets. as previously stated the best way to get them is to farm Worn/Warped feystones, so either through old tempered elder investigations, or through the two event quests for deccos (lavasioth and great jag {chugus}) i got mine via "The Names Lavasioth" after about 100 runs. you can get the runs down to sub 2 with HBG (pierce/sticky), and run the kirin set bonus for extra feystones. Good luck, its a grind.
You can actually perform a second, significantly longer back hop by holding backwards and doing a second hop after a backhop. Combining these two hops with level 3 evade extender will actually let you outpace people who are straight up sprinting somewhere. 'S what they get for skipping leg day.
Additionally, you can load wyrmstake by holding your block button rather than aiming the clutch claw, and if you do this during the loading animation you're actually in blocking frames and can tank attacks. This has allowed me to land wyrmstakes in frankly absurd situations, and I've even knocked a monster down with it.
I've been a gunlance main since Tri (Ultimate) and have continued the trend all the way to world, and MHGU. If you ever want some tips on it, I'd be happy to provide.
Love gunlance since mh2. Been gl since then. I prefer a mobile nuker build instead of a nuking fortreess Don't need to much stamina. S.Surge lv 2 is good enough. Evade window 3 to 5 is much better if u want to be a mobile nuker that can still evade like a god. I came up with safi l6, Zorah E Focus 3 Artillery 5 Hp 3 Evade 5 E.extend 3 Guard up Razor sharp Destroyer 3 Def 4 Can squeeze in tremor lv3 or brace lv2 or agitator lv2
Personal preference i believe. It gives you additional stagger and damage but has less range. I honestly prefer my long safi boomstick over the wide lightbreak.
If you only charge shell instead poke shell safi is bae. There is no dps diff in only shell vs poke shell. Also charge shell got higher knock out DMG and break DMG. And I use silverlos for slinger capacity to have the max amount of time for the wyvern stick. Better then stam surge imo
I Go with 4 brachy and Silverlos legs with safi gunlance +silverlos essence So u get agitator Secret atillery secret and slinger capacity up the Rest of the Skills is mostly up for dps
AngBata 11 ah sorry for the non clear answer! @@middox239 yeah that's what i'm thinking, i'm pretty sure i got a buttload of KOs when I tried long gunlance and managed to stick it to the head, but now i'm second guessing myself
takes 4 pieces of brachy to get artillery secret and agitator doesn't buff the shelling damage so it's a waste. Don't need weakness exploit either. Still wondering why the devs said "We think GL mains will be happy about this set" when previewing the brachy armor.
The shelling in itself doesn't, but you do have up to three slashes in the combo before fullbursting on the wyrmstake, so yeah it can make a difference especially if you have unused slots for decorations, and don't want to go defensive :p
I'd say your "essential skills" at the end is a bit much, do you really need earplugs when you can just block the roar with your guard 5? A point to make for slinger capacity is that it's safer as well as increasing dps, as the wyrmstake stab is quite a long move and if you don't know the monster well it can get you hit, so having to do it less is better. Rest of the video seems decent. I'd advise watching some of caoslayer if you want to see a true GL main in action
@Dinosaur Kin for the initial roar, you can load the wyrmstake during the roar as wyrmstake load has a guard point, and then stick it in while the animation is still active. Depends on the roar though. Earplugs is definitely a great skill on long GL, but I wouldn't put it as essential compared to artillery or focus
@@Drischa oh. i see we have here mr Can predict every single roar of monsters. You have meeting roar, fight starting roar, enraged roar, reatreating roar and hello i'm new monster roar that can last for 2-10 consecutive roars. Blocking roar means you dont deal dmg. Ignoring roar means you already charging your free wyrmblast or putting wyrmstake. and i love contradiction in your post. "You should know monsters well to block roars, so you dont need earpligs" and next sentence is "you dont know monster so you cant predict the opening for wyrmstake, that's why take slinger capacity". And this is not a guide for speedrunners. It's a guide for players, that dont spent hours doing several hundred tries on monster to get one perfect.
the funlance is my favorite weapon typ in the game and is so much fun to play. i recomend try out wide charged shelling with the rageing brachi gunlance! and go and visit CaoSlayer´s channel he has tons of great content and information for the funlance!
Gunlance is and will always be garbage because of the horrible idea of the wyrmstake blast. The idea of putting a stupid probe on a monster and be stuck in hitting that part until it break is just stupid... considering that gunlance sucks without it. Would've been so great to load the slinger ammo into the gunlance and have your shellings powered up by the same amount of dmg and duration as the stake allows, similar to Generation's shelling power up hunter art. Sucks really bad that you finally find a safe moment to put your stake up only to miss the body part.
@@spiritwyrmk8622 the wyrmstake blast is the probe you stick in the monster, the wyvernblast is the thingy that does low damage for 2 seconds then a big explosions, and you can only stick it after a combo or 2 shells

Hi. I don,t have safi gunlance. Can u recomend any other with long barrel? I just have the zinogre stigian and the raging brachidios gunlance. But i don't think no of then are long amunition.
Bata make a joke
Me: loading
Also me: just get it after 3 second
We told you to use fast loading, geez !
as a bowgun main, longshelling GL is like the only melee weapon i can play...
man we have no HANDS as gunnermains xd
ure joke was very funny HAHAHA...
I really like evade extender on SA as well and 2 is enough there really but that tentacle coil is so good.. Might as well use it if you're going EE lol
Since I don't play bowgun on PS4 controller (or something that isn't mouse+keyboard) so I pick gunlance
It's technically melee if you fight at melee range right?
Fun fact: wide charged shot on wyrmstake makes hiher dahe than the shelling itself
Yes to all 3 choices.
Ah yes, 'healht' boost 3 is very vital
some tremor resistance is also very useful.
But few pokes will poison monster and give extra dmg (those juicy 100 per tick on Safi)
Wide gl is 100% blast. Since you poke monster a lot
Normal is better with sleep. With normal fullburst combo you hit monster a lot with melee attacks to trigger 2-4 sleeps. And that means extra wallbangs or wyvern blasts
hello, can you change the barrel type of the gunlance or is just good look?
after 2 years of grinding i still dont have guard up
Farm the tempered lavasioth event quest
How did you never get any silver token at the steamworks ? :O
Same
You can actually perform a second, significantly longer back hop by holding backwards and doing a second hop after a backhop.
Thanks dude!
I’m three months late but wouldn’t bombardier be good or does it not apply to shells?
Love gunlance since mh2. Been gl since then. I prefer a mobile nuker build instead of a nuking fortreess
Don't need to much stamina. S.Surge lv 2 is good enough.
Evade window 3 to 5 is much better if u want to be a mobile nuker that can still evade like a god.
I came up with safi l6, Zorah E
Focus 3
Artillery 5
Hp 3
Evade 5
E.extend 3
Guard up
Razor sharp
Destroyer 3
Def 4
Can squeeze in tremor lv3 or brace lv2 or agitator lv2
What’s that gunlance you are using? Can’t find it on the wiki
load wyrmstake safely while guarding instead: R2+L2+○
lightbreak is a better long gunlance than the current long lances we have. still true right ?>
Personal preference i believe. It gives you additional stagger and damage but has less range.
I honestly prefer my long safi boomstick over the wide lightbreak.
King James same here. 4 shells are also more comfy than 3. it‘s like fighting with a shotgun from a couch really
If you only charge shell instead poke shell safi is bae. There is no dps diff in only shell vs poke shell. Also charge shell got higher knock out DMG and break DMG. And I use silverlos for slinger capacity to have the max amount of time for the wyvern stick. Better then stam surge imo
@@earlgrey1745 that's kinda the beauty of long GL: you basically have the freedom to do anything you want without sacrificing dps.
@@DaDaHorst indeed my friend. My friends always complain how broken ls gl is with all these utility and defensive traits :D
Or if you like danger, you can switch guard 5 to evade 5.
thats a whole lotta skill bata...if you dont mind please make normal and wide as well. i would like to see your version of those shelling type
I Go with 4 brachy and Silverlos legs with safi gunlance +silverlos essence
So u get agitator Secret atillery secret and slinger capacity up the Rest of the Skills is mostly up for dps
@@vladimirtschesnokow6535 what's the use of agitator in a long shelling build?
AngBata 11 ah sorry for the non clear answer!
Its meant for a normal Shelling build
Normal benefits from raw and shelling
I Play it only with downslam combo and emptieing all shells and wyrmstake for a finish
I use the safi gunlance augumented for silverlos essence, normal 2 and the Rest on Attack
All brachy and the Silverlegs
Akt charm Lvl 5
This gives me
Agitator 7
Attackboost 7
Criteye 2
Attilery 5
Slinger capacity 5
Healthboost 3
Crit boost 3
Weakness exploit 3
Capacity boost
Protective polish
I don’t know the english Word - That your teammates dont make you Trip haha
Glider (Block 4) and Rocksteady mantle (Divine blessing 2)
With one augument to affinity you get 100% critchance with agi and we
Overall i Play this set really aggressive
You get juicy Numbers from the RAW Attacks and spicy Numbers from blasting all your Shells at once.
I Would love to See you covering normal gunlance too
In my Opinion its the hardest Hitting type which requiers Good skill
Sorry for my Bad english
Greetings from Germany !
Fauzi Tahir
For wide i Use the r. Brachy GL
Augumented for healthregen and 1slot
Zora helm a
Zora chest a
Silverlos Arms b
Zora waist b
Silverlos legs b
Earplugs charm lvl 4
Earplugs 5
Attilery 5
Block 5
Slinger capacity 5
Tremor resistor 3
Healthboost 3
Focus 3
Evade distance 3
Capacity boost
Guard up
The skill your mates cant Hit you 1
This is the Most comfy build
You can play it with poke Shell
Or charge shells only
It‘s my replacement for long
You Could just use the safi GL
For long and make it viable for your Self
Attilery secret + slinger capacity up
And the Skills above and your Good to go
I use any shelling type depending on the situation.🤔🧐😎👍
Why not both?
don't the wyvernstake blast explosions do KO damage when stuck on the head?
No, shells or wyrmstake have no KO values at all
@@Drischa well that sucks
any dmg to the head does KO, gunlance is KO-king second only to GS or HBG
@@middox239 yeah that's what i'm thinking, i'm pretty sure i got a buttload of KOs when I tried long gunlance and managed to stick it to the head, but now i'm second guessing myself
Try divine blessing secret with gunlance
Can someone pls tell me what gunlance he is using
Yo filyne bombardier give more damage to shelling for all types. Idk if you said it and if you did my apologies.
Is that really earplug +4 ?
Which layered gunlance is that ?
Jagalaka
Gajalaka
@@bimaajiesyaputra6168 thanks
Mmmm how do I get the gajalaka layered weapon ? Is there a quest for this ?
Why not 2 brachdios parts instead of zorah?
im using 3 piece zorah to get artillery secret here
takes 4 pieces of brachy to get artillery secret and agitator doesn't buff the shelling damage so it's a waste. Don't need weakness exploit either. Still wondering why the devs said "We think GL mains will be happy about this set" when previewing the brachy armor.
@@Raptchur They thought of normal shelling of course !
@@reiizayoi3376 Ya probably got me there. Idk sh%t about gun lance lol. So normal benefits from crit? And raw damage?
The shelling in itself doesn't, but you do have up to three slashes in the combo before fullbursting on the wyrmstake, so yeah it can make a difference especially if you have unused slots for decorations, and don't want to go defensive :p
no long 7 gives me the big sad
Would love to share my long shelling gl build with you :)
Normal ofc
I have been playing 600 hours but still no minds eye :{
Earplugs is definitely a great skill on long GL, but I wouldn't put it as essential compared to artillery or focus
i always use earplugs in guiding lands for the party roars situations
Nemesis Nidhoggr damn you fucking killed him
I can do all three...
And I main dual blades...
And where is the hunt to prove it? I mean theory crafting is nice but Show us the build in Action
I did like the fullburst ungabunga :(
Haha bata good pun
the funlance is my favorite weapon typ in the game and is so much fun to play.
i recomend try out wide charged shelling with the rageing brachi gunlance!
and go and visit CaoSlayer´s channel he has tons of great content and information for the funlance!
Lol let the man work
Normal shell please
I like it normal and wide. Long's for PUSSEHS. UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL BABY!
jk all shell types are good but I like close quarters and burst damaging
Lol
Gunlance is and will always be garbage because of the horrible idea of the wyrmstake blast. The idea of putting a stupid probe on a monster and be stuck in hitting that part until it break is just stupid... considering that gunlance sucks without it.
Would've been so great to load the slinger ammo into the gunlance and have your shellings powered up by the same amount of dmg and duration as the stake allows, similar to Generation's shelling power up hunter art.
Sucks really bad that you finally find a safe moment to put your stake up only to miss the body part.
Wyrmstake blast is as awful, maybe worst than having to tenderize i do agree, but the wyvernblast is a nice addition to the gunlance gameplay
@@mallwen3955 I meant the wyrmstake thing... if wyvern blast is something else then everything else about the gunlance is good
@@spiritwyrmk8622 the wyrmstake blast is the probe you stick in the monster, the wyvernblast is the thingy that does low damage for 2 seconds then a big explosions, and you can only stick it after a combo or 2 shells
Set is Trash .
What's wrong with it if I may ask?
I can you Show my gun Lance set , That is the perfekt build
