And that's really funny to me
@@sylphiafox @sylphiafox The Outer God "the Fell God" is responsible for the Giants and Fire Monks' fire magic spells. Many of the Blood Star worshippers live with the Fire Monks and have the same punishing thorns as the now petrified Giants who died in the war. Apparently, being blinded like this makes the Blood Star visible. Mohg draws from the Formless Mother - however, his ingrown horns blind him in one eye. It's entirely possible that the Formless Mother, Blood Star, and Fell God are one and the same, and being blind in one eye is enough to see them - after all, the Fell God IS one-eyed, and it would explain why Bloodflame takes the form of fire, the same thorns on Giants and Guilty Sorcerers, and why Guilty Sorcerers are always found with Fire Monks. The Flame of Frenzy comes from its own source, whichever Outer God spurs the Three Fingers. The Fires of Slumber come from Miquella or Miquella's Outer God. Ghostflame has existed since long before the Erdtree, as has the Crucible, a key aspect of which is Fire Breath, as seen in the Ancient Dragons and Crucible Knights. It seems to be pure coincidence that the Elden Beast, Ulcerated Tree Spirits, and Putrid Spirits have "fire breath" and "firey explosions" that are now tinged with gold / rot, and that the dark red Blade of Death attacks leave behind a sort of flaming effect on the target's body. Black Flame seems to be a direct corruption of Fell God flame. It's not powered up by the Giant's Seal, though, but it's clear that at some point, it was the same magic the Fire Monks use, as some of the Fire Monks became the Blackflame Monks. And finally, some sort of Outer Serpent God is responsible for the fire of Mt. Gelmir, and presumably, its Volcanic Stone. With that said! There are STILL some fires we have not explained the sources of. Flame Sling, Catch Flame, and Fire's Deadly Sin have no sigil and are not improved by the Giant's Seal. Deadly Sin can be explained by Immolation being unaffected by buffs in prior games, but not the other two. The phrase "flame of ruin is anathema to the Erdtree" and the mention of banishment is not enough to define them as Fell God's flame, as Spark Aromatic has no logical connection to the Fell God and was ALSO prohibited by those on the Erdtree's side. But it's not a stretch to assume all of those spells still come from the Fell God. So here is your simple lore based question! Does the Fire damage from Spark Aromatic, Perfumer's Bolts, Smoldering Butterflies, generic Torches, Torchpoles, combusting Oil, exploding Ballista shots, exploding Scarabs, Explosive Stone, and Redmane Techniques come from an Outer God? Does it come from the Crucible? Or, are non-magical sources of fire just naturally occurring instances of heat doing its thing? If that's so, does that mean Redmane Flame is not magical, and attacks like Flaming Strike involve "spraying fire" from the hand when it's really just throwing forth some flammable material?
As opposed to the rest of us, who played the whole game and still have no idea what the story was about. Why did Marika shatter the ring? Why did the demigods go to war? Screw that! Just beat the bosses and become Elden Lord!

Ironically, I think Elden Ring is the only FromSoft game with a comprehensible story told through the actual narrative, as opposed to the fucking items.
Sekiro actually is their only game with linear narrative, except some explanations and background to be read and found the sekiro story is so straightforward that no matter how you play you get the general gist of the world and characters
completely disingenuous. demon souls and sekiro are most definitely not at all like this, the story is told in a straightforward manner with lore that flavors and fleshes out the world in descriptions. dark souls and bloodborne, while having more minimalistic narratives, definitely did not relegate most of the story to fucking item descriptions. you do not need to read a single item description in DeS, DaS, Bloodborne or Sekiro to know what's going on in their narratives. It requires immersing yourself in the story to pick up on it. The story in Fromsoftware games is often hidden in item descriptions. Fortunately there are tons of UA-cam channels that piece the story together.
Immerse yourself in what story? Don't confuse lore with having a story. There is no story, zero. Tarnished is revived to become Elden Lord of the lands between, what does that mean is not fully explained on any of the hundreds of item descriptions and no npc gives a clue about it. That's the main story, the side stories if we can even call them that, are something like this; some mannequin npc gives you a quest with bad lip syncing to go and get an item from an enemy, you go there, kick their ass, get the item and go back to report to the npc who gave you the mission. Not impressed with the lackluster story in the slightest. The combat is fun and there's a lot of variety there, but I'm still to meet one single person that can explain to me why the story is any good. It isn't.
@@JesusProtects Lol there never was a story in From Software games, it's always been up to you to come up with one yourself. The story can be good depending on how well you can interpret and piece the missing pieces together. @@JesusProtects Well the story in Elden Ring is that the Greater Will guides you with Grace so you can become Elden Lord and fix the world. It goes approximately the same way in Dark Souls, you are one of many who try to gain in power (Souls/Runes) to fix the world (Link the First Flame/Restore the Elden Ring). It's basic story it's true, but it's enough to give you an objective and justify the game. The real treasure in Fromsoft's games is the lore. It's not written in plain text nor told by an NPC, it's told through the environnement and snippets of it are, written in item description. It's a puzzle and it's a great puzzle to unravel.
@@JesusProtectsYou don't have an interest in learning the lore, which gives a much greater understanding of the story. The lore is where we learn more about what the Greater Will is, which is important in understanding the Elden Ring, and why Tarnished must fight to become Elden Lord.

And there are countless moral lessons you can take away from Elden Ring (though it doesn't need one since again it's a GAME).
Dumb people complaining about not beinf spoonfed the story like every other game does. First of all if you have at least 2 brain celles you would understand at least without reading anything that there was a goddess named marika and that her children waged war after one of their siblingd Godwyn died due to a plot. You would also understand that the elden ring is the power of a god that marika had until it got shattered and each of her children got a piece of that. The Souls games are very vague and more idea based and player focused, I think it is done on purpose it is just enough to hint at something to give inspiration to the writers without actually delving into the story, there is no story in these games in the same sense of stories in other mediums. That’s the only pushback I have at people who like absolutely glaze Fromsoft, I really do enjoy the environmental story telling in their games, but you are insane to say that it’s good. Reading a piece of paper, and then 40 hours later getting the second half of a riddle that mentions that piece of paper is insanely over complicated. In order to even care about the lore you quite literally need to watch a VaatiVidya video, and it’s cool don’t get me wrong, but if this was any other game developer people would be shitting on them saying how their story makes no sense. Sometimes people need to understand just cause you like something doesn’t mean it’s great.
Quick version; the "god" of this universe, known as the Greater Will, gave one woman the power of the Elden Ring. The Elden Ring contains the Rune of Death, Life, and Order. The woman is named Marika, her first action was to break the Ring, and bind the Rune of Death. Now, death is impermanent, the laws of nature can be broken, reality itself bends. It is your job as a Tarnished to recover the Elden Ring, your choice as a player is to decide what you do with it's power.
These souls games tell story very differently compared to other games. You don't get the story from the intro, just drops of information where your discovery fills in the rest.
The game gives you context clues in the form of item descriptions that let you piece the lore together as you play and learn about the world. It’s story is spectacular. You just haven’t tried hard enough to learn it.
The studio that made elden ring do treat their stories like an after fact where the things that made the world already happened a while ago and one of the greatest joys in the game is finding out the lore and what’s going on as well who are does at play. Morgott is a cool example
FS games are different in the story telling department. Because you're a nobody they treat you like a nobody meaning you have to figure out the story yourself via dialogue, item descriptions, environment details, and messages. And no edgy people comments don't say this game doesn't have a story when you have channels with hundreds of thousands to millions of subscribers making a living off telling these games lore and story for over a decade.
Lore is different from the story, the lore is the history characteristic and informations surrounding and part of the world, the story is the event portrayed directly by the narrative in the moment the events are taking place. These channels you are referring to usually delve almost exclusively into the lore, the background narrative. For the primary narrative, also called story, what you experience as you play, (descriptions, documents and tales told you about the past are background information, aka lore) is usually very minimal to the extent of barely existing.
@@byletheisner5006 Problem with FS games is that the two so intertwined that they might as well be the same as the lore is what explains the story including the main conflict

I love how games giving reasonable amounts of lore is "spoon fed." No. Hunting for hidden lore is fine. Trying to find 400+ items to get lore is not.

NOT ONE. elden ring is a step down from every previous fromsoft game in every regard, story especially
@@arisumego The item descriptions were just a small jab I threw at the end there, but I still stand by my primary criticism. wasted minute of my life watching an old man talk about pong and say hes confused.
It isn't.
@@JesusProtects the fact you think that a comment from two months ago is going to respond to your shit opinion.
@@JesusProtects Lol there never was a story in From Software games, it's always been up to you to come up with one yourself. The story can be good depending on how well you can interpret and piece the missing pieces together. For you, the story is probably bad because you can't fill in the gaps yourself and cant interpret what the lore means.
It's not surprising that someone who works for the Daily Wire wouldn't be able to understand a story that is being directly explained to them by the opening cutscene. You can get a lot of informal from it if you just pay attention and think.
Whats confusing about it? Just remember who the Greater Will, Two Fingers, Three Fingers, Fell God, Blood Star, Formless Mother, Prince of Death, Cold Moon, Gravity Lords, Rot Goddess, Kindred of Rot, Black Blade, Black Blade Worshippers, Deathbirds, Death Rite Birds, Crucible Knights, Omens, Omen Slayers, Albinaurics, Albinaurics Part 2, Albinaurics Part 3, Lord of Blood, Miquella, Malenia, Radahn, Ranni, Rykard, Blaidd, Melina, Radagon, Fallingstar Beasts, Redmanes, Cleanrot, Haligtree Followers, Volcano Manor Recusants, Nomads, and Bloody Fingers are, and you should have no trouble following the plot.
No, stupid, Dragon Cult and Dragon Communion arent the same thing! One has Red Lightning and has tenuous connections to the storm-calling magic that Godrick and Godfrey use, and the other has yellow lightning and was invented by Godwyn after he BEFRIENDED tbe dragons who use the red lightning. No, not GodFREY, GodWYN. Big difference. And then he half-died, and one of the dragons got stuck in his dream and his lightning got corrupted by death bugs. But only the yellow lightning, not the red lightning.
And remember who the Numen are, and why the Cuckoo sect attacked Caria, and the important lore distinctions difference between Flame, Fire Breath, Golden Fire Breath, Scarlet Rot Breath, Fire of Slumber, Flame of Frenzy Ghostflame, Black Flame, and Blade of Death are. Yeah, all the enemy attacks just look like fire, but they're entirely different in the story.
And don't forget the lore implications of mixing metals or keeping them separate, and how that is reflected in the Twins' storyline and Radagon and Marika's nature, and the hypocrisy of deeming things heretical while also touting that all things can be conjoined, and...

Glad u get it
Quick version; the "god" of this universe, known as the Greater Will, gave one woman the power of the Elden Ring.
I can't stand when the elderly brag about reading books then say metal gear lore is too complicated
There are like 5 different solids, 5 different liquids, and 3 ocelots as far as I know
The studio that made elden ring do treat their stories like an after fact where the things that made the world already happened a while ago and one of the greatest joys in the game is finding out the lore and what’s going on as well who are does at play.

Trying to find 400+ items to get lore is not. Especially when some of those items only drop around 1% of the time.
NPCs not giving so much as a hint of what needs to be done is not.
Missing out on story because they didn't find the rusty spoon at the bottom of a well that only opens if you kill a certain NPC on a rainy Tuesday is not.
Stop acting like spending 400+ hours grinding and piecing the story together from scraps makes you better than anyone else.
@@ZaleraArkanus666 to be fair, there are elements of good directions from NPCs. One instance is during Ranni's quest when you kill Radahn and a meteor opens up Nokron, one of the NPCs you need to talk to before going mentions how the geography should be radically changed in the place you already had to visit to first meet Blaidd. You go there, go in the direction of the fucky floating rocks, and find the entrance to Nokron.
Bro. It’s a metaphor for the constant xenophobia and storytelling that a young Hideo Miyazaki experienced during his travels around the world.
Xenophobia ex: You can kill every physical NPC.
Elden Ring is far and away the most coherent story in the Soulsborne series. (Sekiro had a clearer story than Elden Ring but, imo, due to the complete absence of character customization, build variety, and play styles, I don’t consider it to be a "Soulsborne" game. An incredible FromSoftware game? Yes, 100%. But "Soulsborne" game? No.)
nah man this game actually makes that distinction. Your first real homie points out that your princess is not to be found. don worry tho, theres girls under every rock it turns out. Blue girls, blind girls, girls wot are snakes....
Is he trolling or serious? 😂
“Doesn’t understand the story from the opening scene”
Meanwhile: the hundreds of item descriptions explaining everything
Dude read one single expository sentence and said “this is cliche language” I don’t trust any of his opinions on anything
Dude watched the initial launch trailer and expects the entirety of the lore for the entire game.
My man thinks he knows what it is to be confused by the story 😂😂
I bought elden ring when it released, played through twice and I still have no idea what's going on. Literally have no idea what the story is or what any of the characters rolls are in the game
What not reading does to a mf
I never understood this criticism. I got the story of Elden Ring by just listening to the dialog. Sure you dont get all the little details, but that is what the items are for. DETAILS.
But the greater story is quite straight forward.
Then again, he mentions mario, so he probably thinks keys dangled infront of his face is high drama..
Old man read like 20 words and is now tired lmao
We got kids with out there cellphones or can't pay attention for 20 seconds nobody perfect 😂😂.
“In medias res” is how one would describe it from a literary perspective.
Dang, Northernlion is making tiktoks now
My guy, if you want to know the story watch a Vaati video, if you want to discover it PLAY THE GAME
*a man trying to understand the story*
The title: 🤡
This is like one step away from grandpa Simpson tying an onion to his belt.
Elden Ring doesn’t hold your hand throughout the game. The NPCs and the world around you tell you the story and you have to interpret it yourself.
"Ive been playing video games since pong and ive not been able to figure out a single story"
Telling on yourself?
