Klavanon The Tarnished explores The Lands Between for the first time in the massively popular video game Elden Ring. Will he "Git Gud" or die trying?
#AndrewKlavan #EldenRing #Review #DailyWire
Klavan "What's the secret?" Dan "Git Gud"
Ah yes, I see Dan is a man of culture.
Harsh truth
Dan: You git fookin gud, m8
Truly, a man of culture.
Getting better at the game is certainly important, but I think the 'Git Gud' meme gives a lot of new players the wrong idea. The hard enemies do get a lot easier once you explore other areas, level up, and find more gear and tools. Progressing in Elden Ring has a lot more to do with time than skill.
@@Dustin_McNab i agree but i think people realize its just a meme pretty quickly once they start playing. lots of powerful stuff you can get early on, a lot of which i found on accident without even having to look anything up. "git gud" is just funny to say lol
"Unfortunately for you, you are maidenless."
Klavan: *spitefully* "I beg your pardon."
Pretty much every bodies reaction
thats so funny, and so true in alot of cases 😮💨, but more funny 🤣
11:25
Highlight of the video 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I want this on a t-shirt 😂
Not the gaming streamer we asked for, but the one we need.
I’d watch this more
I'm just glad he didn't try to deepthroat a microphone...
I love this dude
It's funny because Klavano called Godwyn "Goldwyn", which is actually ironically accurate to the lore.
@@TheReapersSon Is the lore as sweet as I want it to be ? Is it based on real life esoteric mythology ?
Congratulations Mr. Klavan you have officially played Elden ring longer than the average games "journalist"
😂 fax
Facts 😁😁😁
Journalist literally gave it game of the year
@@bucksafterdark4752 Yep, your average journalists plays the 1st 5 hours of a game, pretends to be an expert, then lets the social winds tell them what should be game of the year.
Kinda like how the heismann trophy folks often admit to not even watching west coast games because its too late in the evening for them.
The problem we have is instead of "reporters" we got "repeaters"
@@bucksafterdark4752 They dunked on it and said it didn't deserve its sales for months before they finally gave up and said it was great w hen they found out they w eren't convincing anyone.
Drew is ironically the only person id think would play video games in the daily wire
Walsh has done some gameplay videos, though he's very bad at it (whether that's intentional or not, is hard to say with him).
Or _COULD._
@@Jito463 Matt couldn't even make _Night 1_ of the OG FNAF! XD
And Matt
Definitely NOT Ben, he's too mature, lol
I would actually watch a 100 hour series with klaven trying to beat elden ring.
300 hour at least for his learning curve
I agree.
@@sephiroth8517 DS1 was 300 hours for me, I was really this terrible
@@buffhardback7595 Must've felt great beating it.
Oh yea easy watch
I never realized it, but Klavan is a solid fantasy warrior name.
Klavan the bold
Klavan Iron-tongue
Klavan the truth bringer..these all have a much better sound than my name
@@roninkraut6873 🔥
There's an Estonian footballer called Ragnar Klavan
Sounds like the name of the hero if Im to be honest
@David Edosomwan
What’s wrong with David? That’s a stellar name with loads of history.
I never once imagined that Klavan would be playing Elden Ring, hats off to the DW people who set these up 😂
Oh yeah, Klavan is a big gamer. He's said so on his podcast many times
This is pandering. You people are gullible as fuck.
I love how they know exactly how to actually appeal to a younger audience
"He's tough, but he's an idiot."
Yep, that about sums up most of the enemies in these games.... until you get invaded.
Then you just have to hope they didn't bring a katana with rivers of blood...
Nahh when you get invaded too
As a souls veteran, this was both hard and fun to watch
\[T]/
Saaame, but I love watching my favorite man playing my favorite game. Fromsoft x Klaven is the best crossover we didn't know we needed
He has no clue what he's doing, but he definitely has the right competitive fun spirit.
I haven’t played any Souls games but Elden Ring looks good. Would you recommend?
@@roninkraut6873 this was my first Souls game I'm 140 hours in and I highly recommend it.
This is a game you can really think all of your teeth into
“Living without a PlayStation is like living without sunshine” - Drew
Klav
Real credit to whoever did that character design. Impressively looks just like Klavan!
The daily wire really is evolving. They need a series for these types of things. This was fun to watch
Klavan should stream on twitch honestly
Tree sentinel exists to teach two things:
1: Git Gud
2. You can run past almost any enemy and return when you have more experience, levels, and better equipment
@@drewwiley7083 I ended up using his weapon as soon as I had enough strength to 2-hand it. definitely glad I fought him early
Actually Tree Sentinel teaches a third thing true to all From Software games; "when in doubt, cheese it"
He was kicking my ass, at thr time I was mostly an Str/Dex player with a twinblade... But I did have a staff and the glintstone pebble spell. I found out purely by accident one time when running from him like a scared rabbit he can't hit you if you use your horse to climb up the crumbling wall in the Church of Elleh. Once I noticed that I whipped out my staff and proceed to nuke him as he proceeded to helpless whack the wall under me.
Hey man I killed Ornstein and Smough 3rd try with no summons, I've earned some cheesing.
@@drewwiley7083 true, margit and tree sentinels are my sensei. every boss after them are just a walk in the park kekw almost died like 67 times against margit but after that you can solo radhan even without summon and shjts ez
I... wasn't expecting to find Andrew Klavan playing Elden Ring but it filled me with happiness to stumble on this.
The plot of Pong was incredible, albeit a little dark.
😂😂😂
LOL!
It got a little repetitive, kept going back and forth.
Bet you didn't see the plot twist coming
😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Gotta love Drew accusing the Japanese game of cultural appropriation when he sees a samurai. The funny thing is, he could get away with saying that about very _other_ class
Yes. But good thing whole cultural appropriation is BS made up excuse only believed by halfwits.
Without said 'cultural appropriation' we probably would still be living in very elementary houses with elementary technology because our whole cultural and technological evolution is based upon lending and copying things others have done.
E.g. as a fitting example Japanese Kimono is based on Chinese dresses and garments which Japanese copied over hundreds of years until it had become distinctly Japanese garment. This is how things have always evolved, from music styles and arts, which are based on previous styles artist copied and modified over times thus little by little creating totally new things.
Anyone complaining about cultural appropriation wants to stop any advancement and box everyone in their own limited compartments closed off by ideological walls.
That part made me laugh.
Cultural appropriation is a meme that only braindead Americans care about
@@ImAmirus?? Classes are based on European myth and HEMA. It’s parts of Europe they’re taking inspiration from, not America
Would love to see an Andrew Klavan Let's Play of Elden Ring. This is fun to watch
This man seems like a very charismatic, open-minded person. Love it!
"open-minded"
lol
@@theobell2002 Yes. Open-minded with some sense of logic. The logic thing is just a insurance against stupid paradoxes like: I am feminist and I think women does not exist.
This is increasingly becoming my favourite show on the DW. Reading Andrew's new book and now watching him start Elden Ring has been engaging and a real treat(not to mention the Timcast/DW collabs this week). Hope everyone at DW is doing great:)
You are seriously trying to delude yourself if you thought this video was anything but garbage.
@@ajb7786 of course it's garbage, you are watching somebody play a video game. All videos of people playing video games are garbage, just like watching the NFL or NBA, it's just entertainment. No thought necessary, it's just for fun.
What's your favorite Klavan book? I haven't read any and wonder where to start. My local library doesn't have them so I need to buy them, don't want to waste my money on a book I won't like.
@@marciwyrd8905 “The Great Good Thing” is his memoir and it’s very good.
There is no place I feel more confident contemplating ideas in a true sense than with the Klavan, master of all things worth having virtue over.
This was delightful to watch. Andrew, it seems like you weren't planning on making this into anything more but I'm begging you to give us another video of you playing this game.
Man i love andrew klavan. He's like the cool father of the DW crew.
the Hot Gandalf of the DW Fellowship
. . . this is kind of accurate.
14:45 the face every kid makes when they're button mashing 😂😂😂
Complete with the classic "stand up so you can hit buttons harder"
Klavan is training for the “no hit” challenge. Dark Souls 1, 2, 3, Bloodborne, Sekiro, and now Elden Ring without being hit once
If you get hit one start back at souls 1
That would be ridiculous lol
What do all those words mean? 😝
OH MY GOD! THE NO HIT CHALLENGE WITHOUT GETTING HIT ONCE?
That reminds me the headshots ive shot onto players's head.

Literally one of the only gaming journalist with 1) previous experience in video games 2) patience enough to learn the game and 3) with enough integrity to attach you name to the review. Honestly the #1 game journalist
I love how Andrew is so open to video games and appreciative of their art! He’s such a gem! 👏
I need more of this. Someone teach Drew how to block, target lock, and guard counter, he'll go far!
None of that help 10 mins into this game....thesheild is weak and the block Doesn't Work....
blocking is important but the most important is that rolling gives I frames and you can dodge like all the attacks. also stance breaking but he's not playing astrologer and rock sling go brrrrr
It would be great if he learns how to target and block and then make a second video
Gotta teach him that parrying is king
Man. The producers didn't even teach him to lock on. They set him up for failure. Funny thing is, he still made it further than some of the cry babies writing reviews of this game.
Ironically, he's practicing good habits to get used to combat without locking on. Once he learns the magic of rolling and i-frames, he'll be a combat beast!
I love that they probably put some intern on the duty of...
"Make a detailed appearance preset that looks like Drew so he can just jump in and select it, it'll be funny"
And they honestly did a great job taking the time customizing that character lmao.
For someone who grew up in the nineties when the technology for video games really started taking off after the genesis, PlayStation and N64 came out I still can’t believe the progression of the graphics. I still turn on my old consoles frequently and while I can still find impressive detail in the older games, the newer games are so real that it’s no wonder I don’t ever see many people outside. These games are just gorgeous. The fine detail is just stunning beyond belief, I can’t imagine to have grown up in the seventeenth century like Klavan from using shadow puppets by candlelight to where visual art has progressed to.
Far finer art than you'll see coming out of so called "art" galleries.
I so wanna see this man raging, we demand a full play through.
Though he remained maidenless. I still accept Klavan as the Bald Lord
Bald-en Lord!
NO that title belongs to Asmonbald ONLY KEKW
“I’m dead already? Wow.” Is something everyone says when they play their first souls game don’t worry.
I've recently become a fan of Klavan's, it's surprising to hear him be critical of modern movies and music (most of which I understand) yet to be able to appreciate modern video games. He defies the stereotype of "I like anything that I can remember". Good on him.
its so refreshing to see someone who can be rusty or "bad" at a game and still review it objectively or at least not disparage it because it didn't cater to their every personal shortcoming
This was way funnier than I expected!! Hats off for actually giving it a shot!
I love how he reads every message. This should be series, it would be an absolute gold mine.
It's what happens when you don't watch a tryhard streamer creating a boisterous meme of themselves for the camera to excite dopamine-starved autists on Twitch. Klavan's naivete and humor is able to draw us in naturally because at some point, Klavan is all of us. It's an organic experience.
lol I wonder if he ever knew that those ghosts walking around were other players.
I hope he actually makes a walkthrough
This is far more entertaining than even I anticipated. I could watch Lord Klavan (aka Hot Gandalf) play this for hours and be 100% entertained.
I’ve just sunk 300 hours into this game. Possibly the best game ever made.
I’m still stuck on the freakin Elden Beast
Dark Souls > Elden ring
@@SiberianExile gotta disagree. Elden ring does and has everything dark souls does and has but better. It makes sense that it's this way since the team at from software would take all of the lessons they've learned from the souls series, bloodbourne, and sekiro and use them to make elden ring. Hell, just the map could fit all of those games inside it and then some. Feel free to disagree if you like, but imo this is the best game they've put out so far. I just wish software would start making armored core again.
🙏
It's a fun game, but it's not the best game ever made. Best game in its genre, but not ever.
@@landonmathews6111 Try summoning the mimic tear really helped me out
"You are maidenless"
"I beg your pardon"
Absolutely the best response I've ever heard aaahahahahaha
I've never been into any of these "let's play" videos, but klavans commentary is just a stand-up comedy routine. I love this.
it's like the old clueless gamer series conan used to do, but i don't hate his politics
As a BOSS Mage myself, this was both refreshing and hilarious. I love this game and I love watching people play it, wouldn’t have expected Andrew to play it but would actually love to see more.
Now we just need an epic gamer collab between the two funniest guys on the DW: Drew and Walsh.
Don't put Walsh in the same category as the great Klavan. Sacrilege
Don’t put Klavan in the same category as the great Walsh. Sacrilege
We need the two of them playing a fighter game against each other
Kudos to the crew member, who created Mr. Klavan as a preset beforehand, because he obviously didn't spend 1 hour at the character creator like all of us. Bonus points for making it look EXACTLY him, nose included. Give the man/woman a raise.
The custom Klavan appearance was freaking hilarious.
it was done perfectly
I just discovered this channel and it feels like not unlike finding a much needed site of grace.
Make this a continuing series with the producer guiding and helping next to Klavan. Would get oodles of views, likes and subscriptions.
Can we please have this be a series of Klavan trying to beat this game.
would be a 1000 1 hour episodes probably. lol
It would never end xD
Or just games in general. I'd love to see his comments on various video games (especially games like Bioshock, The Last of Us, and God of War)
@@Geudry If some one sat down with him and taught him the mechanics like dodge rolling, i-frames, and how to properly parry, he could do it.
@@coreyceleste4323 I mean, without even leveling he took like 1/5 of the friggin knight's health down. I couldn't even do that till I was lvl40 on my first playtrough. I imagine Klavan Knew how to block, parry, jump attack and dodge he'd lvl1 the whole game. It was pretty neat to watch.
Nobody:
Klavan: look how beautiful the art is
He had a good point of how the art was better than anything you would pay to see in a museum.
How did Klavan get his character to look like him so quick!
It's the bald head. Give his char a bald head and narrow face and you're pretty much there.
someone probably made it for him.
Hot Gandalf magic
Props to the staffer who made the custom character. Well done!
@@taylorwest6986 that character was an easy 10/10. must've taken hours haha
No way, never expected this from the daily wire. Still saving up to get the game. Played dark souls one and three amazing games. But this was unnexpected
He did surprisingly well against the Tree Sentinel.
Dude for reallll
I would unironically love to watch klavan keep playing this. Daily wire is all about getting more culture out there... this is a great way to do it!! He skipped the tutorial, but once he learns how the game works it would be a fun series. Fingers crossed for part 2...
"Living without a Playstation is like living without sunshine" lol 😆
That raw flood of joy you get when you finally kill an enemy after multiple deaths
Most rewarding and frustrating aspect of this game and I felt Klavan's sense of triumph through the screen.
For future reference, the rolling skill in this game will save your life way more than you would expect it to. Try it. 👍
Varre : "you are maideless."
Andrew : "ExCuSe Me???"
Andrew, I've always liked that you play games. I know there's a lot of older people, and even people way younger than you who just think they're useless/pointless. I think as a story teller you can see they are just another medium for it. Great video, never change!
this goes unfathomably hard
Played 600+ hours of Elden Ring with my partner, and Klavan still has the best "Dark Souls" face I've seen 12:46
the struggle is real 😂
He did what half of the people playing it did... skipped the cave of knowledge (literally the tutorial everyone is screeching about not existing) and went face first into the Tree Sentinel
One of the best if not the best game I’ve ever played
I wonder what other games has Klavan played. I’m thinking specifically of fantasy/rpg/open world games like Skyrim, Assassin’s Creed, or The Witcher. Skyrim is obviously an incredible game with good graphics for the time. Assassin’s Creed franchise has made some amazing games as well. I struggle to get into the story of the Witcher series, but the graphics are undeniably beautiful. In my opinion one of the best, and yet most underrated games is Kingdom Come Deliverance. RDR2 is great as well.
Kudos for the team to recreate Drew in his image in the game
He got a good hit into the Tree Sentinel that first time and a few more after. He's got potential.
He needs to summon
"Let Me Solo Her"
I wish they'd told him about the tutorial cave. I'd actually watch him continue to play this game. I liked this!
You can tell he's a gamer because he moves closer to the screen when the fighting gets tough.
Actually, that's kinda the tell he's not. People who don't play games get more immersed w ith them w hen they do play. Like my bro who plays less games than me actually kinda stands off his chair a bit when j umping in a first person shooter, and when he plays racing games he leans left and right and a ctually tilts his head left and right while making turns, etc, it's very amusing.
@@Ghalion666 Thats so wrong. I played games my entire life and when I get excited I do that. I will admit that I only get excited at really difficult boss fights or online matches, but imagine someone trying the souls borne formula for the first time. This shows that Andrew was really into the game, he was having fun.
I never noticed that with the older gamers before. When they're in the moment, you can see the trapped youth shine through thier eyes! Its rather humbling.... a reason to like my species again. 😊
I love the balls of this man for his immediate challenging of the Tree sentinel...
Seriously though, I want more of this klavan .
Not so much balls as it is unknowing
This is amazing 🤩
I can’t believe Andrew actually hit the Tree Sentinel that many times!!
He also made a truly solid choice with the Confessor.
❤️❤️❤️
I'd like to see more of this - it would be good to have the producer guide him a bit - it looked here like he let him skip the tutorial
Tutorial would have helped with things like locking on and blocking.
Just so you know the game it isn’t culture appropriated because it has a samurai, it’s a japanese game made, produced and published by japanese companies such as From Software and Bandai Namco. They outsource to dub the game, that’s why a lot of item descriptions are wrong or changed in updates because it gets mistranslated
@@DionysianSpirit that’s why I specified by saying “because it has a samurai” dumb dumb, it’s definitely inspired and appreciating European culture, but because of the context he said it was in, he meant in it was appropriating asian culture which it isn’t. And it’s very rich coming from a white person who doesn’t seem to understand what the difference between appropriation and appreciation is when you say ‘who cares’ maybe you should learn the difference before saying something dumb like that.
Klavan to bring forth a gaming series for Daily Wire.
Ben: you're gonna play elden ring today, drew
Drew: no
Ben: you're gonna play elden ring now, drew

I don't know much Klavan likes puzzle games, but if he played Valve's first Portal game, I think he'd really like it for the mechanics and humor.
If Klaven actually played this game to completion I would watch.
me too
I knew he was a savvy guy and all but didn't not expect to see gaming on this channel.
When I first played Elden ring and died to the first enemy "Oh! you're supposed to die? No, no I don't think I will".
*Proceeds to restart character over and over until I kill him*
I loved seeing him stand up while fighting the tree sentinel lol
I'm glad to see that Mr Klavan appreciates videos games as an artform most people take that for granted
The producers are both sadistic and in need of a raise for having the great bald one go through a Souls game. Greatly amusing. Can't wait for the next one.
I really wanted Klavan to see a message “Try finger but hole.”
We need a Klavanon playthrough... it just must happen. Even if Dan has to drag him through with coop lol
I suck at these games, but enjoy watching people persevere
Never thought a Souls game would go this mainstream
It's endearing to watch the elderly play games like these. Reminds me of watching my dad play Call of Duty when I was a kid. They have almost no idea what they're doing but enjoy the game just the same.
Lol same man, my stepdad used to go hard on some Medal of Honor for PS2 and rage here and there lol good times
This guy isn't elderly, wtf????
I'm really happy to see you play Eldon Ring and give us some commentary about it.
This was a good time. As an avid gamer pushing fifty, I am also amazed by how wonderful the new games look
This needs to be a series
I love how excited he got fighting Tree Sentinel. Even did some ok damage! This is the proper way to try to revuew a game. You try and fail until:
A. You succeed.
B. Find another solution.
C. Come back with more experience, as few bosses are mandatory.
Mr. Klavan, you even tried to parry enemies with your shield! That's a very advanced technique with the same punishment/reward risk. He's doing all this with excitement and joy for this game without even going through the optional tutorial.
Its like those reactions videos where they let the elderly play computer games except Klavan is that one really cool grandpa who gets it.
*sees the tree sentinel*
“Hopefully it’s a friend”
Klavan's face when he is fighting that boss is literally me🤣
I love that he walks out and immediately tries fighting one of the strongest guys in the opening area lmao
That can be his lack of general expertise from more modern games (games made after 80's :) ) or just how some people are.
I once read someone complaining how they tried fighting Erdree avatar for 4 hours with very low level character and deemed ER as shitty too hard game.
When e.g. I first encountered one, I tried it couple of times, made assessment I could probably beat it if I tried it some times more, or I could go explore a bit and come back later. Latter I did and had little problems beating it later when I came back with better skills and equipment.
It's open world, you do not have to win every big enemy when you first time encounter them in totally open area. It would be different if there was only one way to advance, but when it's not you have more freedom to pick your battles, but one clearly have to be able to think that not every enemy you have to beat on sight.
Also what many gamers do not get that many things they know about games they have learned over long period of time from various games little by little. But when you then put a total game noob like Nerdrotic or Klavan to play modern game they lack decades of 'game wisdom' about mechanics and how games play (also certain handiness when talking about age).
This is everything I need. Now I want Ben and Michael to play Bloodborne.
"alright guys i mean it's clearly just my stats aren't high enough, stats don't care about your feelings"
I love that you don't give up easily. I'd love to see you come back again to the game after getting some more practice.
"What's the secret?"
"git gud."
Ahhh yes... a producer of culture, truly one who shuns maidenless behaviours.
"NO, DAAAD, the effing STAIRS!! Right there! On the left! The stairs, they're the things that look like stairs! For f***'s sake, turn the camera occasionally!" Lol
Also my oh my, I can really relate to the abject terror in his voice when I'm playing a new game and he said "I'm online..?!"
This was the 0 death speedrun I didn’t know I needed. Thank you Klavan!
"Unfortunately for you, you are maidenless" "I beg your pardon"
We need more of Andrew Klavan playing video games in general, but I would be interested in a part two of this gameplay.
13:00 Ah the nostalgia, I remember my trysts with Mr Tree Sentinel. Was level 25 before I was able to beat him, Klavan trying at level 1 is hilarious.
I beat him at level 10. It took me hours.
