    I started my journey in June of 2018, intermittent fasting. My first step was cutting sugar, even fruit. 1 year later I was down 180 lbs . Some trial and error but , I've tried the one meal a day, and again trial and error. I'm able to maintain my weight loss.
    No more oxygen, CPAP and heart meds.

      Too much water is a problem because is removes needed electrolytes. Most folks don't drink near enough water, but when they add more, they fail to also replenish the electrolytes and maintain a proper balance. Try adding a pinch of salt to your water, and it helps immensely! I'm not talking about chugging brine, but just replacing what is naturally eliminated.

    I've had horrible IBS and am obese. I went Keto and loved the weight loss but couldn't keep it up cuz my IBS was horrible. I thought it was the fat messing with my gallblader but when I cut fat and upped veggies I felt worse, I was so confused. I stumbled across your videos again and thought, wtf, let's see if this works cuz nothing else is... and OMG. I feel amazing! I eat meat and eggs and bacon and a little bit of dairy. I literally eat a few pats of butter straight up now and have no pain, so it wasn't the fat, it was the vegetables. I would never have figured this out without you. I am now consistently losing weight and have no more IBS pain. I eat OMAD and feel best if I eat red meat and eggs and bacon in that meal. I can't afford all grass fed organic beef and knowing it doesn't have to be has been so liberating so thank you for sharing that because it was my biggest road block to this and seeing you say it could be any meat was insanely helpful.

    Speaking of snacks, from the great Low Carb MD podcast you recommended in your Instagram story, Dr Robert Cywes said, "A snack is always an emotional event." I know a lot of people snack, and most don't realize it, but it's just feeding the emotions and getting the endorphin high. That's why a snack triggers many people. We've got to get away from emotional eating. That's how we got fat in the first place.

      When I know I’m going to have a can of sardines, I leave a brick of cream cheese out to soften, then mix a third of a brick with a tin of sardines and make like a paste or pate. I just eat it like an appetizer to my main meat meal. I’m thinking about making chaffles to spread them on or make a sandwich with. That’s cheese and egg. Guess you can tell my version of carnivore includes all animal products at this point in my journey. I’m just starting out from Keto, so I need the variety to make it interesting. Then, I can see myself becoming more selective like this wonderful person is talking about in the video.

    I think the problem with dairy is when its pasteurised. Pasturised butter, cheese are devoid of nutrients so I think that's where the compulsion to over eat them. I find If I stick to unpasteurised cheese like parmesan, which is made with raw milk I get the signal that I've had enough because it has the nutrients intact. Same with unpasteurised butter I can't eat as much of it as I can with a pasteurised butter. Just a thought as unpasteurised dairy is so nutrient dense. Shame it's so demonised.

      Chalet N - It's still not widely (or even easily) available in the U.S.! Go to any typical grocery store and you will have almost a zero percent chance of finding ANY dairy item that is unpasteurized! That is because the food and drug industries still walk hand-in-hand to keep us all addicted and returning to buy more, until they pass us off to their cronies in the extremely unhealthy "health" businesses!

    Hi Laura!
    I watched an interview you did a while ago and when you popped up in my suggested videos I was so happy! Welcome to UA-cam! I appreciate you sharing your journey. I started OMAD carnivore yesterday. I think my main question for you is do you shoot for a calorie goal? I know you also fasted and I’m wondering if you could talk more about that as well. Since starting OMAD I find that my appetite has decreased a lot and sometimes I’m forcing myself to eat even when I’m not hungry because that is my eating window... and sometimes I’m super hungry lol... I guess I’m curious if you make sure you eat a certain amount every day so you are not under eating/over eating?

    • @LauraSpath
      @LauraSpath  5 років тому +2

      I dont worry about it for a day or 2. But you dont want to consistently under eat. If you are finding you are super hungry think back to your previous meal or activity, you likely didnt eat enough then. I wouldnt force food though. I dont track my calories but I have had to limit my portions or increase fasting at times to keep losing.

    So inspirational and well said. You are completely honest about your food triggers and addictions. The three big ones that caught my attention are nuts, cheese, and as soon as you eat it is hard to stop. So much good advice: eat meat you can afford, eat only twice or once a day, pay attention to how you feel. Your point that we cannot let “approved” carnivore foods overrule how we personally react is appreciated. It is also great to see your transformation. You don’t just look slim and pretty, you look healthy, vibrant, and beautiful. I see this in others who combine IF with LCHF, Keto, and/or carnivore. I tried LCHF; gained weight; Keto ultra LCHF found out that cauliflower makes me gain weight, found a vid interview with Kelly Hogan, who has been carnivore for 20+ years, so tried it starting in Apr/May. Lost about 30 pounds then stalled in June. Got rid of the dairy mostly and mayo more importantly and lost weight. Started OMAD July 1st; 1/2# meat and 4 fried eggs; with potassium chloride and magnesium supplements because I have always suffered from leg cramps; lost another 20 pounds by mid Jul and by mid August down 60. The last two months I have not been strict carnivore, but bounce up and down the same 5 pounds; also eat 2 times per day. Was really bad at my grandson's BD; ate pizza and tried a bite of the Costco chocolate cake I used to love. The pizza was great, but I had wheat headaches, the cake tasted like chemicals so I spit it out and tried to wipe my tongue. I have discovered that I do not enjoy the taste of breads, donuts, cookies, etc. like I remember, but I never tire to a good steak with a couple eggs. I like not having any "rules" about eating. Now if I could just get my fellow to eat this way, life would be much simpler - he is hungry/hangry all the time. Older female T2 diabetic still carrying one extra person on a moderate body frame - that's me. I weigh and test fasting blood sugar once a day and keep a log of it.

      @lauraspath and @merrymarthlamb you both have given me hope! I have been lazy keto 70% of the past 3 years..I am not good at counting cals/macros. Couldn't lose weight except for the same 15 lbs. Got back on a few months ago and ate omad...fell off...not sure why and for two weeks...didn't binge, but ate anything I wanted including reese cups...omg! I immediately blew up 10 lbs...feel horrible and joints horrifically swollen. I am now day 6 carnivore...drinking tons of water, and I must admit..weaning off the diet coke...my one true vice in life. Petrified I will gain weight, but truly want this to work for me. Ok, this is my second time watching this video. Aug 8, I jumped in with both feet. So far, my weight is already down 2 lbs. And I had been concerned about eating so much beef, as I'm more of a chicken lover. BUT, I stepped out of my comfort zone and am eating beef. To my surprise, I'm growing to enjoy it. And even looking forward to my 2 meals a day. I have been fasting, with a 6 hr eating window, for approx 3 mos., already. So this was easy for me. I appreciate your advice and plain talk approach to starting the Carnivore eating plan. Thank you for sharing.

      I am 76 and yes carnivore will work for you. I am on this journey for healing my inflammation. I had so much low back pain when walking or moving around, i was so determined to figure out what part diet plays in healing. I am so much better with physical movement, and I absolutely have NO cravings. I eat mostly rib eye steaks or beef roasts, bacon, heavy whipping cream with 1 or sometimes 2 cups coffee, hard and pure cheeses. I learned to use salt daily. All my life I thought salt was the enemy. I love water so no problem there. Know your body and what irritates your system and you will be pleased with the results. Good luck with your journey.

      Carolyn Pumilia thanks for the reply. This seems overwhelming for me. I travel for a living and am trying to wrap my head around packing 3 days worth of meat/eggs/cheeses and cream. I know I wouldn’t be the first fight attendant carnivor but being fat adapted and only needing to eat once a day would be a plus for my lifestyle.

    • @jaelonquixote
      @jaelonquixote 5 років тому +2

      @@mzmargo Depending on what works for you and your goals, you may not need to pack 3 days worth of food. When I am on carnivore, I tend to just eat one meal a day. Additionally, I find fasting, especially water fasting, for a few days can be quite doable and refreshing. I've always struggled with fasting so this has been quite the surprise. You may also want to look into "preserved" meats such as pemmican.
      One thing that has been helpful for me is when I am on the go and don't have a lot of time, I stop at In and Out to order a Flying Dutchman or two. Basically two hamburger patties with a slice of cheese between them. It may not be optimal but I find it much better than many alternatives.
      To help keep it from being overwhelming, perhaps you can simplify somewhat. Start out with just meat and water. If you need variety, try ground beef, sliced chicken (I find dark meat to be the best) and hard boiled eggs. I have found some airport food stands have hard boiled eggs. Some burger places will sell you plain cheeseburgers without the bun.

    Good for you and your husband! I eat all kinds of meat including organs and I love the pork hocks. Most of my cooking is in a slow cooker except steaks, and everything is yummy! Salt and pepper are my only additives, well that and butter! Good journeys !

    I found your video so encouraging! What kind of an adjustment period can I expect if I were to just eat meat only from this meal forward?

      I would say 30 days is a great time to feel your best. How long of an adjustment depends on what kind of diet you are coming from.

    I found your channel randomly and you are the most relatable person’s videos I’ve ever stumbled upon. I watched your diet history video and it was the closest anyone has ever come to saying how I feel about “dieting”. The part where you said you are good at restriction but don’t know moderation is ME to a T! I was hardcore successfully keto for months, had one cheat meal and stopped keto for almost a YEAR! I’ve been back on keto for about 3 months at this point but I feel like I’m stalled and bloated, just not 100% 😔 hence the research on carnivore.. and you are the one that’s convinced me to go for it. All this grass fed organ eating talk is super intimidating even coming from a minimal carb diet but you make it seem so doable! Thanks for being so awesome

    I eat a wide variety of protein to stave off boredom and have done very well. Easy peasy!
    Still take all my usual supplements just because I want to. Can't overeat because once I've eaten to satisfy, then I'm done. No cravings whatsoever.

    GREAT video! I've done carnivore before ... off and on several times... mostly to get immediate reduction on inflammation... works every time... for me, even with cheese, mayo, etc.... but this time, I want to long haul it for weight loss and overall health... I LOVE your videos! They are so helpful and encouraging! Thank you!

    I really like your approach and I thank you for the simple yet effective change from keto to carnivore. I want to go from 2 light meals a day to one carnivore and you've described the basic way to do it. Thanks!

    Haven't gone carnivore yet but whether you are doing keto or carnivore I do think you should do the best you can and not trip up on purity.
