- This week we continue our sail north to Maine. We transit the Cape Cod canal at a whopping 10 knots, and Desiree has a heck of a time steering the boat, then nigh falls and Gio experiences her first night watch, and finally we’re thrown into the middle of a foggy haze and a minefield of lobster traps as we attempt to enter our final destination. All in all, it’s a roller-coaster of a passage!

Never heard that one on a sailing channel yet..."Hard to PORT, Whale dead ahead!" That was awesome!!!
Desiree's comments about helming at night really summed it up for me, brilliant, thank you.
super liking that cam used on the first night. the starfield was EXCELLENT.
Best episode yet. Whales were great👍
I loved the edit to how you refer to the previous Atticus. This is better.
Super neglected > crappy. 🤣🤣🤣
I’m so happy to see you guys sailing again and not fixing things for a change ☺️ I love following your journey. And seeing the whale 🐳 was just a BONUS 💥💥💥🎉🎉🎉 for all of your hard work
As a Vermonter, residing in FL...I have such an appreciation for New England for the natural beauty and history 🤓
The whales, the sun, the moon, WOW!!!! So beautifully done.
One of the best sailing videos I have ever watched - well presented
The dissertation by Jordan about his arduous journey in the fog while the girls stare at him with their glasses held for cheers was really funny. Audio seemed fine to me, great video.
Yeah, the two sisters catching each others eye and giggling was hilarious. Looks like they've been there before!
I loved that part of the vide, cute the way the girls crack up laughing at poor Jordan! I totally get it though, I'd be overly cautious too.
Very good video and showing how you deal with life situations on the seas. Looking forward to the next video. Be safe and blessed guys.
That whale needs red & green running lights...🤣
That must've been awesome in person. So glad you could film that experience.
You guys are so balanced in your interactions onboard. This, and what I follow from what is going on when you not only DO, but when you are through different processes. Decision-making, planning, execution, and feedback from all sides. Perfect. Don't mention "I talk too much", when you are not only narrating the experience, but also the thought process. This team and its sailing vessel is in harmony, as far as I perceive it. Your ship is impressive. Best of wishes from an expat living vicariously through you guys, in Kaifeng, Henan.
I grew up vacationing on Cape Cod. I spent many hours fishing on the canal with my dad. This video brought back such fond memories of the Cape, the canal, and time in my favorite vacation spot. Thank you!!
Jordan giving speech and forgotten to cheers was hilarious 😂😆😂 Cheers guys 🥂
Thanks for a great episode! I loved the way you captured the peace and beauty of the night watches, sensational footage of the whales, the diligence required to avoid snagging a lobster pot and the challenge of entering the river in the fog…. and of course, the sense of fatigue and relief once the boat was tied up.
I’ve watched nearly all of your videos and as a sailor for 50+ years this one captured so many highlights of a passage that it’s probably my all time favorite! Hope it was as fun to make as it was to watch!
The more I see your boat the more I absolutely love it. Thanks for the great videos. 😎
Audio was just fine guys and I think this was probably one of your best videos ever. Fair winds and smooth sailing!
Audio fine. Enjoy Maine!
A lot of UA-cam sailors post their Caribbean and other tropical videos but these New England waters sails are the best I enjoyed from you guys. And having Cinderella there is only a plus! Loving it!!!
Now this is how all your video's should be. Great job guys. Love it.
Check out Sailing Uma, that is one lost Haitian :)
SV Delos did a super video series on the Maine coast last season.
Jordan “ it’s o.k. Buddy”. Reassuring words. Nice work Buddy.
Your approach to the river in the fog is something like a pilot flying an instrument approach. Try to imagine doing that in 3 dimensions at 200 kts. Very satisfying to find the buoys where they should be and very satisfying to find the runway out in front of you.
Yea, but when an “in anger approach” - IFR approach to minimums is required due to weather conditions, especially when the VFR ceilings are below ILS minimums or even below CAT II minimums, you always have the missed approach procedure and have the ATC guide you to other neighboring airports with at least marginal VFR conditions or go around and try the approach again, Vector to the ILS and disengage the autopilot after you see the lead-in lights to the ILS and go for that greaser of a landing you’re known for.
When sailing in dense fog near land and trying to enter a harbor surrounded by rocky shores, you ain’t got no ILS to guide you in and there’s no such ting as a missed approach and try again !
I’d rather land an heavy in ILS to minimums conditions than sail a slow boat blind near the shore where you’ve got fishing gear allover the place or attempt to enter an harbor in dense fog, especially when the access is limited to a narrow channel for deeper drought vessels !
I get why Jordan got exited and I’d be needing a drink too if I was in his shoes that day. A strong drink, that is ! LOL
@@hereintranzit Just curious. After reading your response do you mind saying what your aviation experience is.
@@Kraals this channel is about Jordan, his crew and sailing, not us and flying ! I’m retired from commercial aviation and now I like slow boats.
@@hereintranzit I think I understand now.
Some lovely moments. Videography great. No audio problems
Awesome video of sunsets and the moon and night skies. Cheers Jordan!
Welcome to Maine where the only thing thicker than the fog, is the mosquitos!
Heavy fog is always a concern of boaters. I could feel your excitement but once of the ocean it dissipated and boy your face eased. It’s all good, don’t forget to hug your crew.
I'm always impressed by each video and how warm of a presence Atticus has. Why you don't have over a million subs is mind blowing. Congrats on a safe and well thought out passage.
Well done, another super duper gripping and at times, amusing episode. Poor doggy wanted some of your food!
Guys, the naysayers when you had a blip in your posting schedule can now eat their words! This has been an amazing one with the incredible footage of the magnificent whales, your great crewmate and the best little seadog. What a combination...say no more but thanks for one of your best ever programmes. Love you guys.
Nice great navigation through canal! Currents can be pretty tricky... Wow cool!! Whales!! Pretty awesome! Foggy river mouth approach.. Yikes! Lobster pots everywhere... More yikes! Glassy river passage... More currents... Stressful passage.... Then bam!! Clearing fog!! Glad it went well stay safe captain and crew!!
What Jordan did during the “Cheers”, I’ve done many times. That made me spit out my drink laughing…lol.
🤣🤣
@@ProjectAtticus guys like us need to learn to read the mood and learn when to shut up and not go off on tangents...lol
And, did anyone notice how Jordan inhaled that pork loin? It was like a whale going after krill! 😎
Yes! I just knew he was going to choke on it. Glad he didn't. Lol
Great video and good job all around. Congrats on Gio's first watch. She's good crew!
Thank you for sharing this. I really enjoyed and felt like I was there. The sound of the water, the peacefulness; so nice and relaxing. 😌
Part of what I love about your channel is the in-depth descriptions of what you guys are doing and how you’re getting there. (Jordan, you don’t ever talk “too much“.) 😉
Nice episode. Thanks!
Congratulations and while I know you’ve been here for a bit, welcome to Maine!
My father introduced me to your videos absolutely beautiful, ... We'll continue watching your videos and enjoying your adventures. Thank you for sharing.
You three are the best UA-cam has to offer. The visuals are stunning and the audio (including incidental music) is brilliantly combined. I've said many times before that I love you guys but I think I love this video the best so far. The boat is amazingly beautiful in every shot. ROD UK.
It was great--the sound; the video; the crew; the Captain; and even the little cabin boy Oso. ☺
And after trying to cross a mile wide river; in the fog; with a compass; in my 18ft powerboat; and almost going out to sea. I was on pins & needles watching you guy's navigate thru that pea-soup fog. Phew! Glad you made it. God bless you and your vessel. ☺
The new crewmate is adorable and super handy! It must be great to have some company along. CHEERS!!!
45 +/- years of family vacations to the Maine coast, and the fact that we haven't gotten up there the past few years, have me really looking forward to the next couple of episodes! Wish I was aboard to experience it from the water instead of by car. Enjoy and keep the awesome content coming!
Great episode!
Beautiful views of the sea at night.
Thank you for taking us on this adventure with you!
Fog no fun, you handled a tricky trip very well. Good luck.
you guys have a gorgeous cook.
Wow, this is one of the best episodes you guys have ever made! It was so exciting to see you guys finally make it up to maine! One of my favorite places in the world :-) I am so darn homesick watching this! Got to make it back up north sometime soon.
Awesome guys and Cinderella 😃. I wish every day the world is as u are seeing it. Be safe ok. 🌸. Cinderella ( any port left ). ❤️
The sounds during the wing on wing sailing... magical... best vid yet.
The new boat is GORGEOUS. Awesome trip!
Thanks for the great video! We’ll be making this trip soon so it was cool to see your voyage. 😍
This is what it’s all about guys!
My Dad and I did the Cape Cod Canal way back in about 1962. He was the navigator. We had his Power Squadron charts, compass, depth sounder, and our watches along with our eyes. From the cape to Marblehead it was dense fog. at Salem harbor, the sun came out and we had a beautiful ending to our journey. So glad that it worked out for you.
What a great job you are doing, interesting, informative, and fun! We are hauling out and refitting, hope to meet you guys one day. We are just a couple of old folks getting ready to live the dream and you are inspiring! Our S/V The Bayview Cafe will be in the mix soon! Good luck and keep your hearts where they are...because they are in a pretty near perfect spot.
Ahh welcome to Maine! Fog is our thing!
Great job. I'm so with you on feeling hyper vigilant in fog. Love the comment about being more worried than maybe you should be. Well done!
I think that one of the things that draws me to sailing the most is the idea of being out there, away from any landmass or humans, at night, with only the sound of the wind and the water on the sails and hull, and to stare up into the sky unimpeded by light pollution and be able to actually see the sky.
Always enjoying!!!
Gosh guys!
What an amaizing voyage.
I´ve guess it´s been the most exiting and eventful one I have experience with you since I Know you.
Thanks for this memories sailing with you my dear friends.
Regards.
The shots at around the 12:00 mark with the night sky were beautiful. Great camera work!
The whale sighting was the coolest thing EVER!!!! I got chills. Y’all are so good at making us feel like we are right there in the cockpit with you. I’ve been to Cape Cod but I’ve never seen it from the water. That is the very place the Mayflower sailed through on its way to Plymouth. We stayed in an Airbnb that was built in 1639 by one of the original pilgrims.
This was exhausting nerve racking even for me! So glad WE made it safe! P.S. i am sailing with you in my mind ok. 🤣
Great vid and editing! You guys are so brave! Thanks for sharing you guys life adventures with me (us)! 👍🏾🙏🏾
Loved this video with great scenery as well as inside shots of Atticus. Glad to see that Oso had a life vest and was tethered for safety. Whale coming to visit was awesome.
Seeing you guys behind this new helm is captivating. 😁
Good team work Atticus. "You have come far Grasshoppers". Well done!
Capt K😎
I'm so happy for you guys. Its so cool to follow your journey. I don't think I've seen all of your sailing videos but I think this one is my favorite so far. Keep the dream alive!
I just love the new yacht. It is so beautiful. I am so happy for you. I've watched your show for a long time and have seen all the work you two have done over the years. Although there were some problems at the start you prevailed on all of them and you are doing what we all wish we were doing.
Thank you for sharing your adventure.
Cheers,
SeaJay
P.S. Most VHFs that include a hailer have a switch for a fog horn. Our home waters are the San Francisco Bay Area and Delta. FOG IS a daily event. Use your hailer to listen for other boats, go slow, use your radar and your fog horn built into your VHF. Turn on your running lights. Not every boat has radar or an AIS transponder. A power-driven vessel making way should sound one prolonged blast no more than two minutes apart. If the boat is stopped and not making way, then it’s two prolonged blasts. (A sailing vessel motoring with sails up is considered a power-driven vessel.) Vessels not under command, restricted in ability to maneuver, sailing vessels under sail alone, and boats engaged in fishing or towing should sound three blasts: one prolonged followed by two short blasts no more than two minutes apart. A simple rule for most of us is that if we hear one prolonged followed by two short blasts, stay clear.
Always fun to see the Canal from the water and another's perspective...
Each and every sail is an adventure. Thank you for bringing us along for it all! We love you buds! -Dennis and Sares
Hi Guys, I have been watching every episode on your UA-cam channel right from the first 1 seven years ago and every episode gets better and better, I absolutly love Atticus 2 and you must love her too, she is a beautiful vessel I think I could honestly say the best by far monohull I have seen in all the boating channels I watch. You guys handle her so well and in the little time you have owned her she has seemed to have reacted in all the right ways and believe me I know nothing about Yacthing only from watching people like yourselves. Good luck with all your future travels and I look forward to watching many more episodes.
Cheers Lloyd

When Jordan puts on his glasses we know it’s getting “hairy”.... I love these videos! Captain Osso has made you a “family”, while “Cinderella” has made you a “Crew”! One of the best things about you guys is that you still appreciate virtually everything most people tend to take for granted after it becomes routine, like beautiful mornings and sunsets......Thanks.
Take it from a guy who was driving boats for the Coast Guard for 17 years. You all did great in the fog!! I was stationed at SW Hbr Maine, and routinely transited up to the Canadian border and down to Rockland Maine. Lots of fog navigation. Great job communicating well with your crew!!
Great video, Loved it, audio was fine!
That was so amazing watching that whale come out of the ocean..
You guys are brilliant. Simply brilliant guys! Y'all did great just great... I love the new Sailboat great choice beautiful safe family vessel!! I so look forward to your post!!Fare winds an following sea's ✌🏻💗😊❣️
I think that if you were going spend most of your years on the Maine coast, adding a rope cutter to you prop shaft would be a great idea
Seeing that whale was so exciting! Thank you for taking us along with you. ❤️
Jordan never be afraid of a loss for words. You videos will save you every time! Good one this week!
Love it. Your ambassadors to the joys of sailing. Hope to be following suite in a year or two.
That was the best video here in some time, whales too! Safe travels!
Audio has been fine. I wait for your videos every week, and want to let you know how much I love how you really put me right there with you in your videos, love your honesty and and obvious love for one another. I have the feeling I see the real you and not just a made for video you. Your doing everything right and that’s why your my favorite You Tube channel. Keep on keeping on 👌👌👌👌👌🤗
So happy for you guys to be exploring Maine waters, truly unlike anything else. Hope it brings you the happiness it brings everyone up here!!
One of my favourite episodes, loved the sailing, your yacht looks great, the crew look better and I like how honest you are with being nervous and rightly so in my opinion, when approaching a sketchy landfall in fog. The view of the mast head gently arcing thru the night sky has brought back so many memories of past passages. The morning watch where you get to see the new day awaken is always my favourite and is also a really good time to be trolling a lure. Fair winds
Hey Cinderella, put the beer in the fridge haha Loving having G on she seems as chill as Dez
Really appreciate the simple, honest assessment of what you are going through. Fog makes me nervous as well. New subscriber and long time power boater, as a sailing newbie I am enjoying the content. Good explanations of the process and of course just enjoying being out on a boat. Good filming/editing. Gio, Cinderella, G-dog... I'm so confused. Sister is a great addition to the team, albeit even if only temporary. You all seem to be good hearted peeps. And of course adding a dog is frosting on the cake.
that was great!!! ty
Glad to hear that Cinderella signed a two year contract ! She is a great addition to the crew ! ✌️💜🎸
Why is this my favorite one?!?! I’ve seen you guys sail in some gorgeous places, but for some reason, watching you sail in my backyard is so exciting and inspiring! Love, love, love this episode and how well you all work together!!
I feel so excited you guys get to experience my great state of Maine this summer.
Great episode. Soooooooooo many memories. Thank you. ✨ 💕 ✨
I love Saturday mornings, You guys are the best. Thank you for another episode
Woohoo, Cinderella on a 2 yr contract and some great whale shots....great episode!
We visited Maine and the day we went out whale watching on a charter boat it was soooo foggy you could not see five feet ahead. We were actually surprised they were going out and it was so eerie...but all at once No Fog!! It was so bizarre ..we saw a few hump back whales that were very close to the boat and it was the most exciting thing we have every done...thanks for sharing .you got me at I can smell pine trees ahh take me back!!❤️
Another very enjoyable video, super interesting too, especially with some night watch and the fog. Sooo jealous.👍
Welcome to Maine! I grew up not to far from where you aware docked!
Audio sounded fine to me!! Great video! The Fog looked very stressful, but was beautiful. Also the whales were very cool. Happy sailing!
Looks like you guys are in Robinhood. Enjoy your stay and welcome to Midcoast Maine!
Didn’t notice audio issues at all. Your channel actually motivates me to do exactly what y’all are doing!
Ok just started watching and I extremely appreciate u changing to say u had bought a “neglected” boat not “crappy” boat for Atticus 1 bc it kinda stung before bc y’all kinda did a kindness to that owner that we know has since passed and that hits a hard spot for me of family members passing of same conditions so thank u so much 😊
Another +1.
Aloha from Kona! I love you guys and what youʻre doing. I am an avid follower of your adventures and I always look forward to your videos! Watching you takes me back to my sailing days on a 32ʻ sloop named Silver Heels and your experiences resonate with me deeply. Mahalo for sharing your good vibes with the world!
I’m smiling at the whale encounter!!! You guys are great!!! I love the videos! I have watched you from the beginning of Atticus (1)!!!
Thanks for the adjusted intro, much nicer. Been there in the fog sans radar and pre-AIS, stress level of 11-12, almost made it to the rocks before being saved by a clanging buoy.
