Looking Good..!
Thank you very much!
Good great video bud like always …???
Awesome, Thank you Juan!
Nice, maybe I’ll put a hard wood floor in my 08 F350 🤔 looks great Jimmy!
Thanks a lot Daniel!
Its a job.❤
Looks like it would be easy fast and smooth.
Everyone Dreams 😅
Exactly.
love that old truck so simple ,back in the day all you needed was a dwell meter a vacuum gauge and a timing light .
Oh yeah, a few hand tools and you could do almost everything other than internal engine and trans work!
I really enjoyed this video, stuff like this and watching matt get vehicle’s free are what keeps me sane when the world gets crazy!…..Thanks jimmy!👍🏿😂
Right on! That is much appreciated my friend, Thank you!
My guess would be impurities in the steel. A paint chip left untreated will cause point rusting.
Thanks, kind of what I was thinking. Rock chip or impurities in the steel.
Interesting.
It is fun watching the progress. Looks like the excitement is building!
Oh yeah, thanks very much!!!
Thx Jimmy. I'm watching this and getting motivated to work on my own project today. That bed is gonna look insane when you are done can't wait!
Appreciate that Dustin! Hope to install everything and film it today!
It's coming along great Jimmy. As a fellow mechanic you give me hope to be able to some day tackle a project like this. Fixing stuff is easy but the body work as a mechanic is intimidating and you make it look manageable so thanks and I love the content.
Awesome Buck, glad to hear that! It can be difficult, requires some patience and a little planning. If you want to see good videos about it channels like "Fitzee's Fabrication" and "Make it Custom" are great with metal work.
Another Great project truck video! The wood bed is going to look outstanding, nice choice on the stain color!👍
Thanks Scott, really happy with it!!!
That wood floor is going to look awesome when you are done. The darker color will go great with the Rhino lining. A friend had an 85 Chevy step side. The wood floor had started to rot. He used leftover Trex decking. It came out good. It was a nice little truck until he sold it to our friend "Captain Corrosion". It quickly went downhill at that point. The rockers disintegrated within a year. It now sits with the other dead soldiers. He killed the Simplicity riding mower I gave him.
That guy sounds like he is the vehicle Grim Reaper, lol
The bed is looking good, did the install video today for next Sunday. Might do a sneak peak short. ;)
Years ago when I rebuilt my step-side bed I cut and routered out the wood for the bed and boy that was a lot of work! I used red oak and it did look great!
White oak hold up in the weather.
I did that truck 35 years ago then sold it!
Yeah, I was gonna do oak, but it was $300 more. The Pine shows more wood grain, but isn’t as durable. So I put 6 coats on it, 3 on each side!
Hello again Jimmy
Thank you for another Great Video 👍 She is coming together beautifully, now if we could get the weather and batteries to cooperate 😆 Again thank you
THANKS George, much appreciated!
What kind of wood is that man...that's real wood
Real pine wood. Has to be well sealed to last a while.
truck is coming along nicely.... makes me want to go out and get one..... oh wait i drive one already and its only a 2017 chevy!!!!!
Haha, NICE, thanks Scott!
Rumor has it Rainman secretly watches Jimmy's channel to learn from a true Master Mechanic.
Haha, it’s not a secret anymore, word is out! ;)
Looking forward to the finished bed Jimmy. That Red Mahogany is one of my favorite stain colors. I assume you are going to keep your truck inside. If it's going to be outside in the weather the Minwax poly will need a new coat every couple of years. Total boat makes an outdoor clear that is Marine grade. It's what I would use if mine was going to stay outside. But I painted my factory Black with outdoor Oil based paint.
Yeah, before I applied the clear I realized the can says not to apply over Red Mahogany. So I ended up buying low gloss automotive clear coat and sprayed 3 coats on each side.
Next video my friend! ;)
From the UK. Would the floor be like that from factory?
The original floor the wood was painted with a black paint that handled weather pretty well, unless it was gouged or badly scratched and let weather into the wood. Mine will be Red Mahogany when it's all done and cleared with automotive clear urethane the same as is used on paint with UV protection. Unless I scratch it and don't touch it up. :).
so how did you install the washers and nuts on the boards that are mounted on the cross member that is over the fuel tank?
In an early video when I repaired the crossmembers for the bed I welded in nuts in the locations above the tank. Then I cut slots in the heads of those bolts as well so they could be screwed in.
What's the difference between ospho and ospho 605 ? Which one you use . Gal jug, one has a white label .
Looks like the one without the white label .
I went with oxy-gone same phosphoric acid
I never noticed if it had a 605 on the bottle, but it is green material in a semi clear container with a white label. I put it in a spray bottle for application.
You Da Man Jimbo
The,wood goes under your bed
Uh oh.
