    Thank You Dr. Fung. Iam diabetic since 29 years. I had reached 150 units of insulin per day and gained almost 28 kgs in weight. now only 10 units of insulin per day and lost 16 kgs, feeling great, all due to 18/6 fasting.

    Occam's razor. The simplest answer is usually the correct one. At least in my "experiment of one", Jason Fung practically saved my life. First found his "Solving the two compartment storage problem" video and it completely changed my life. That was December. By March was down 30 pounds. Today I'm down almost 40 and in the best health of my adult life.

    The man who changed my life!! And I had no illness, I am just a vain aging Sagittarius who was looking at gaining another size each yr. I was a tight sz 10, in a matter of months after getting Dr Fung's book The Complete Guide to Fasting I was and still am a sz 0-2, and have loved fasting so much that I am now a Snake Dieter and a carnivore. The older we get the quicker we need to get hold of our health, you can get away with a lot when you're young tho these days our diets are so poor even the children are suffering. New sub, thank you so much, whenever I hear Jason I get re-energized and re-inspired to stay on a fasting focused lifestyle!

    My husband has type 2 diabetes and has been on Metformin for many years. We have been eating low carb, but after only two 24 hour fasts, his blood sugar in the morning went to 5.4. Usually it is at about 7. Amazing. Thank you Dr. Fung.

    So as a nurse, when I give people insulin for high blood sugar, I feel like I am doing something wrong! I wish more doctors would get on board with this. Then there is the "snack" after insulin. I put insulin in your body then have to give you a snack so your blood sugar doesn't go too low, makes not a lot of sense to me!

    I noticed having been on a ketogenic diet for 15 months that my insulin sensitivity is now very high. Having tried eating a pack of chocolate biscuits in one sitting, the highest my blood sugar got was 6.4 and after an hour was back to normal, 5.2 In all I lost 18kg.

  • @maschinenraum

    one of the best lectures of dr. fung.
    for me super high fat keto works great.
    i did keto for a year and of course my diabetes went away. pre-diabetes went away. 25kg of body fat went away.
    then things got to a halt and i regained 5kg. my metabolism slowed down.
    not i do meals with at least 95% of saturated fat. and things are working again great.
    the key is that i only need one meal with protein per day. the rest i do fat meals:
    * black coffee with lard (much better than mct)
    * a fat soup (beff fond + water + grained broth + lard + lard + lard)
    * spinach + lardo (only the white fat from the pork cut in small dices) + red chili + garlic
    the trick is that insulin is going down completely and therefor glucagon is going up.
    and glucagon is the magic hormone that tells the fat cells to release their fat.
    in my opinion this kind of pure fat fasting where you also massively reduce protein it is more effective that water fasting because you are not hungry, you don't have to count calories (the body takes care of hunger/satiety like it should be), you crank up your metabolism short term and you crank up your metabolism long term by supporting mitochondrial growth that people need desperately when they have a low (aka damaged) metabolism.
    now my weight loss is working again and i have more energy :-)
    so next year i will have a totally flat belly (maybe a six-pack?) and this is a huge achievement after being over weight the last 35 years (now 47).
    so again - the first (and practically only) law of weight loss:
    ***** keep insulin low so that glucagon gets high *****

    Thank you Dr Fung! I feel I might someday be able to eat some bananas and watermelon in my future. That I won't have to be in ketosis the rest of my life as long as I balance my diet. My a1c on 1 Feb 2019 was 10.1 - I was started on metforim and glipizide. Glipizide was stop after 9 days when my BS hit 66. I stop metforim myself when I started keto on 22 Feb 2019
    On 17 May 2019 my A1c was 5.3 The Lowest it's been in 9 years. My AST AND ALT much better and normal range, HDL and Trig are normal. Still have hypertension but it's better. Wight went from 232lb to 196 so far. Spreading the word to my fellow U.S. veterans and co-workers.

    Dr. Jason Fung's eloquent and forceful focus on insulin toxicity, instead of the standard physician's fixation on glucose toxicity, is something that every physician needs to be acquainted with. If physicians fail to understand this, they shouldn't be treating diabetes. Despite the dogmatism that exists with those medical professionals that treat diabetes, hopefully diabetic patients will encounter this lecture and take matters into their own hands. If every diabetic were shown Dr. Fung's lecture, and most importantly, took his advice seriously, diabetology would be the least profitable medical specialty.

    Dr. Fung is a awesome, brave and honest doctor! I've been watching his speeches...
    I've been doing the water/coffee fasting for 36-48 hours during the weekend six months ago. Recently I've advanced to the 16/8 diet during the weekdays.
    Reason and results: Build up my six-pack (my current BMI is ~21.3 from 23.5 with body fat of 13% from 18%) and reduce inflammations.
    I personally think that the fasting is simplest, effortless and effective way to achieve your goal(s). Ketogenic diet is too complicated for the most of beginners. So i recommend don't even think about it. However, after months of weekend fasting and 16/8 diet, it will come alone naturally.
    Side effects: It took me about 4 weeks to get ride of keto flu symptoms. Still working on stamina.

      Jeff C . I’ve been on doctor supervised Keto diet since 2015. She told because I’m eating clean I’m not getting enough salt. When I get Keto headaches and flu try bouillon. I prefer Knorr brand. The Keto flu is the result of low sodium intake. Start with half cube and one cup of hot water. If you still have it drink the second cup. Hope this helps.

    • @edwardschwenk3100
      @edwardschwenk3100 3 роки тому +1

      Sure you can nominate him, but he'll never get it. There's too much money at stake to be lost, by major industries. They will give Al Gore a Nobel Prize for holding a rock concert, and claiming he's solved global warming. But do you really think the fast food companies, sugar, pharmaceutical corporations, Pepsico etc want this catching on? Medical Doctors, cardiologists, nurses, and all other support staff would be out of work if there weren't people chronically sick. What about Kelloggs, Post Cereal, Nabisco? This pandemic wouldn't be a fraction of what it is, if young, and middle aged people were metabolically healthy, and not overweight. But then Pfizer, Mondera, and Astrazenica wouldn't be raking in the dough selling vaccine, and the corporations that produce respirators, and ventilators would have to cut their production. The major news media are non-stop talking vaccine, and coronavirus right now, but not a word about healthy living. So I doubt Jason Fung, Shawn Baker, or any of the others working tirelessly will ever get a Nobel Prize, but I fully agree with you.... they each deserve one.

      How much insulin you take is not the most important health parameter. You should look at the ratio of carbohydrate energy and insulin units. 50g and 20 units is much worse than 300g and 35 units. Don't get fooled by the low carb approach.

    There is a direct correlation over the last eighty years with people getting fatter, and taking prescription drugs.Psychiatric drugs in particular can increase the appetite , which will often lead to diabetes.Unless people recognise this and stop feeding their metabolism with these poisons, and live like they used to without these unnecessary chemical fixes, they will continue to get very sick.I think it is disgusting that children are now fed these toxins, they honestly don't stand a chance.

    So is the state of hyperinsulinemia entirely attributable to the fatty liver and fatty pancreas, or is there also a dose adaptation effect similar to opiods? I've heard both opinions from Dr. Fung, but in this presentation I only hear impact of the fatty liver and fatty pancreas described. So is there, or is there not, an insulin dose adaptation effect as a result of chronically high insulin due to too frequent eating and too high carbohydrate intake? Is that insulin dose adaptation strictly the effect of the fatty liver and fatty pancreas? Any clarification helpful!

      The Ketogenic Diet is a popular and effective method for overcoming weight loss and insulin resistance. There is much on UA-cam about it. This is what I did: Cut alcohol to zero. Cut sugar to zero. Reduced fructose - ie only fruit I ate were lemons, limes, tomatoes and avocados. Reduced carbs to near zero - so no grains, potatoes etc. I lost 14 kg in two months and my A1C went from 'Pre-Diabetic' to normal. I ate the mainly cruciferous vegetables, and had proteins from red meat, chicken, pork, fish, eggs. I had fats from meat, bacon, cream, butter, olive oil, avocado oil, coconut oil. Also I only ate twice a day. From then onwards I kept to the diet and lost 2 to 3 kgs a month. In a few months I may add moderate amount of carbs in the form of some legumes, and maybe some berries. Later I may get back to my single malts! Incidentally this diet is not difficult to keep in that that it have one truly wonderful thing. You do not get hungry on this diet! The keto diet can be augmented by some exercise and by what is known as intermittent fasting.

    Thank you so much for sharing the valuable info. I am on Keto + OMAD for 11 days now and my morning BG has been coming down to less than 120 now compares to over 120 before fasting. However, though my BG does go down through out the day to around 95 but i am wondering why it still high in the morning ranging from 110-120 and even higher after exercise in the morning to 130-140? Thank you for your kind response.

    I was diabetic since 2006. I used to take metformin 1gm, glimepiride 2 mg and glyclazide 30. Still fbs was above 200 and A1c 9. I started lchf 30 months ago. My A1c came down to 7. Lipids became normal. ALT reduced to 20. I stopped all medicines. Fine. But after one year, sugar started rising. When it reached 200, I started metformin 1gm again. But it is not becoming normal. Always varying between 140 and 200. My fasting insulin is stable after diet between 2 and 3. But sugar is not under control. Other markers are keeping fine.
    Why sugar is not under control even after 30 months of lchf?

      one option: vegetable of any kind could be problematic even if low carb. ultimate option: carnivore diet.

      "keto" alone means nothing. A keto diet that works must be well formulated. Same story for a carnivore diet, a diet with only chicken would be really poor. A diet composed of fat meat and organ meat is a great diet with a potential to cure diseases.

    Dr. Fung’s work is revolutionary. I so enjoy the information he brings to those of us who are struggling with diabetes. However, it is not nearly a matter of not being “PC“ when he use the word retard. I was very disheartened by this. Individuals who are developmentally or intellectually disabled deserve as much right as others. “Retard” is an extremely offensive word in for this smart man not to recognize it doesn’t make him very aware. Yes, the information he brings is so valuable, but his lack of awareness was quite disappointing.

    Doctor told me I was pre-diabetic. I am eating only meat, eggs, animal fat and I am losing 500 gr~1 pound a day or every third day, it fluctuates. Meat till satiety and no more, I don't eat and I skip lots of meals because I am not hungry. Eating animal fat is important, like fat meat or lean meat fried in lard, tallow, butter. This feeling of balance in my body I didn't felt for 20 years. I think diabetes is one manifestation of being allergic to carbs, sugars. Clearly I am from hunters ancestry. I ate a diet of fruits and vegetables for six years, raw vegan, and didn't cured that, it helped but didn't finished this. I would have preferred to do it all the way like this, eating only meat for a period of time, till resolution

      F Rogers thanks so much for your answer. I have consulted a physician and have done blood work. For the moment I won’t be able to do OMAD, but I will continue in Keto, taking it easy and keeping a low carb diet. I was so enthusiastic about fasting and getting healthy that I overlooked what you say. Thanks again!!!

    You need to explain better why the Roux-en-Y work by cutting out the GIP part in in the intestines, and this is what cures diabetes, not that they can not eat.

    • @bjorn2fly
      @bjorn2fly 5 років тому

      and it also wrong that it does not matter what kind if bariatric surgery you do, Roux-en-Y is by far better in curing diabetes, since the procedure lowers insulin secretion in itself. The reduction in insulin sensitivity from reduced liver fat is the same in all procedures.

      You need to read Dr Fung's book ' The Diabetes Code'. Fasting will help cure your diabetes. You need to eat food with low carbohydrates . No flour, bread, cakes, potatoes, sugar. Eat meat & vegetables with some fat like butter or cream in your food. Fat will keep you feeling full, you will not get hungry. You will not feel weak on this diet. Start with short fast like 12 hours & as you get better you can go to 24hrs. Trust this doctor , he is amazing.

      Fasting is not starving. Starving is when you have no food and your body is an acceptable weight or below acceptable weight. Fasting is when you have food but choose to not eat it and your weight is in the obese, overweight, or acceptable-weight range.
      Fasting doesn't damage the body because the body is eating its stored fat. Starving damages the body because the body is eating the muscles and other tissues because the body has no more fat on it to eat.

    I love Dr. Fung, I really do. And this is an extremely informative lecture. However, he has a speaking habit that DRIVES ME CRAZY. He ends virtually every other sentence with, "Right?" Makes it very difficult for me to focus on content; like fingernails on a chalk board. Anyway, I wish he'd learn how to stop doing that.

    So, you criticise that the current diabetes treatment is only about keeping blood sugar levels normal. But then you promote low carb diets which achieve this by restriction of a whole macronutrient without curing the underlying condition? People on keto diets continue to be carbohydrate intolerant. You avoid the intolerance by not eating carbs, horrible advice!
