- Welcome to this PMDG 747 FMC Tutorial video.
In this video, I will try to show you how to program the PMDG 747 FMC so that you are ready to fly in your favourite flight simulator, FSX or Prepar3d.
We will go through each step, one at a time, and set up the 747 FMC in a precise order I suggest you follow.

Thank you for this incredibly helpful tutorial. I'm finally able to fly a long range flight with ease.
+Alex Paumen Excellent, I am glad you find the video useful. Enjoy the channel!
very nice and informative. liked and subscribed
Thank you. Glad you liked it, this was one of my rare 747 videos. Welcome to the channel.
Thank you ..Great video..learned a lot.
+Claudio Nelli You are welcome. I am glad you like it and find it useful😄
Thanks for your informative video.
You are welcome👍
v good. what a wonderful voice the frenchman has
Indeed...🤣
Quick question for you, what is the advantage of copying the RTE 1 to RTE 2? I never do it.
Great tutorial
+Pat Leclerc Thank you, I am glad you find the tutorial useful. To answer your question, we usually copy RTE 1 to RTE 2 to have a back up of the route. To tell the truth RTE 2 is rarely used, but it is there if we need it.
Thank you so much for the help!
No problem!
Brilliant thankyou
You are welcome!
Thanks a lot captain but, I'm wondering if u have done any video about setting up the auto step climb on the pmdg 747 and 777?
Hi Captain how do you calculate the fuel and the weight please? If you could please explain us how to input them correctly that would be nice. Thanks
+Ian Nottingham The fuel is calculated using a flight plannong software like PFPX... To refuel the aircraft, in the FMC, go to the menu, FS actions, Fuel, and enter the amount of fuel you want. For the weight, still in FS Actions, go to Payload and enter the numberof passenger, cargo, etc...or directly enter the Zero Fuel Weight (ZFW),vwhich is the weight of the aircraft without fuel.
Good video Captain, how do you do a auto step climb on this aircraft? Tried a few things but didn't work out so far
+Fabian Vincent I have not explored that option (yet) on the 747, but I am sure there must be a way to enable it in the Options.
In the legs page the speed and altitude values are not there, is it ok?
Yeah it is OK if there are no speed and altitude constraints for that phase of flight.
Dear Captain do you use pfpx for flight plan ??
+Ali S Yes, I like it, it is a comprehensive tool. The only thing I would like to see is a map of the flight route along with the wx charts in the briefing package.
Captain, how do I get my aircraft to follow the flight plan once it is airborne? And what programs do you recommend for making flight plans that I can insert into the 747 on FSX steam edition?
+Julian Kurowski Normally to follow the flight plan entered in the FMC, you use the LNAV mode. To make flight plans, I personally use PFPX.
Thanks for eh explanation Captain Nav, really helped me out.
first
+Sumania Thanks
hi captain Nav thanks for the tutorial but I have a question .I did take off in my 747 it could not climb as well gain speed the was a light saying low air pressure.. is it due my fmc set up or what help thanks.....
+Edward Hammz I don't have enough information. When you launch the aircraft, normally, the engines are running, if you extend the flaps and add power then, can you take off
Captain Nav thanks
+Edward Hammz You are welcome, I hope you worked it out.
Hello Captain, thank you for the video but I am stuck on one part and that is to add the flight plan (load or send flight plan requests to automatically fill in the flight plan) can you please assist me with me this? That’s basically one of the part which preventing me to take this bird in the sky. Thank you.
+Ishtiaq18 Maybe this video will help ua-cam.com/video/QA26vRnylKw/v-deo.html ?
Hallo, how to change ALt, speed or both in the legs page?
Thanks. You can insert 250/10000, for example, in the right side of the legs page
@@CaptainNav Ok thanks. i tried with par example 250/FL150 but it didn't work now i see why ;-)
I can not.
When I press SEND button, it says that there are NO ROUTES AVAILABLE.
To the folder C: \ Users \ Admin \ Documents \ Prepar3D v4 Files
and
E: \ Games \ Prepar3D_v4 \ PMDG \ FLIGHTPLANS
Added a file with the name UUDDUUEE01.pln.
What am I doing wrong?
Hey.... If I remember the route files for PMDG are .rte files so it seems you have the wrong format.
@@CaptainNav I do it.
Hello smal question: is it wrong to retract the flaps while retracting the gear? thanks
+Ahmed Emara Thank you for your question. For takeoff, the gear is retracted first. After a while, while accelerating, the flaps are retracted.
For a go around, you retract the flaps first to an intermediate setting, then with a positive rate of climb, the gear is retracted.
I hope this answers your question.
iam asking i just takeoffed pressed to retract the gear while gear is retracting i retracted the flaps in same time is that wrong?
+Ahmed Emara After takeoff, you retract the gear first, wait a little bit, then retract the flaps slowly.
oky thanks
+Ahmed Emara You are welcome
do you think i can run the pmdg 747x on my laptop ? ( i5/6gb ram/ intel hd 4400 graphics)
+STEFANO COZZI I don't think it will work well on a laptop, unless you have a gaming laptop and your simulator already works well on it.
flightdeck2sim until very recently flew and produced his 737NGX videos on his laptop
No.
How do you set up descent in the FMC?
+Darek Meller To set up the descent, you need to enter an arrival and approach for the FMC to calculate a descent.
Thanks!
Why is my thr reduction is 1500ft. Not flaps 5? How to set it? Thanks
+Dane Jones THR Reduction at 1500ft is ok. This is maybe your default setting and an airline specific option.
Captain Nav is it ok to set it to 3000ft?
+Dane Jones Yes, 3000ft is OK.
Thanks Capt. you're very helpful
+Dane Jones You are welcome.
how does this menu appear in the fsx I can't see this in my plane.
+Piyush Sharma Which menu?
Why make a video with an existing route, instead of showing us how to create a route manually? Now we don't learn anything.
Hi thanks for tuning in.
The video is about programming the FMC using the datalink feature of the aircraft, it is not about entering the route manually or flight planning/dispatch....👍
Have a look at the video about "saving" the route ua-cam.com/video/QA26vRnylKw/v-deo.html it is the same principle, it works the same way.
