Absolutely loved it Petter! I would be grateful if you could continue doing these tutorials in the cockpit. Keep up the awesome videos man and fly safe!
Mark Purpose the use of a simulator is actually better for MP to show you guys what is happening. in a real world environment, the pace on the flight deck is brisk. i.e both pilots performing their pre departure procedures, talking to each other, and the ground crew. it wouldn't leave him much time to do what he loves, giving all of you an up close and personal experience with his aircraft. as instructional videos go, no one takes you closer to the 737 than MP. be sure and download the Mentour Aviation app, cold and dark and FMC are covered in more depth there❤
+Mentour Pilot I think these kind of videos are teachfull, and that they give something new and 'fresh' to the channel. it might be helpful just to give a quick explanation before the the actual video. Some people dont have knowledge in the topic... Thanks for this, and all other great video podcasts!
thanks! this cleared up quite a few questions im having with flight sim, seems like the hardest part is finding the correct information to punch into the fmc in the first place. made more difficult by needing antiquated charts and airport information in FSX for the fmc to understand lol. but great learning tool thanks for the video!
Quite well explained than most of the simmer making tutorials . before this video, none of the simmers taught well that which arrival to use and which transition to put...
Love the FMS/CDU setup. Like to watch the ND and PFD in flight (especially during takeoff up to cruise and from top of decent down to approach where all the good stuff happens) as well as see out the front a bit on approach. Like to hear cockpit communication and call outs especially on approach. Oh yeah and take off and approach briefings. You regretting you asked for feedback Mentour? Your awesome bro!
Wonderful video Capt. njyd it alot.. can u explain a bit more on what would you do on long routes where u may want to make route changes enroute due to weather change .. or a diversion in case of an emergency. Thanks for sharing the knowledge.. very resourceful!
Louis Menezes in the event of weather we can program a "lateral offset" left or right of present course by some number of miles to avoid a cell or a "direct to" function. that is, if ATC clears us to a way point that is ahead in the route, we can just select the assigned w/p and the FMC will bypass the next point in the sequence and fly to what was assigned by ATC. it's a great piece of kit❤
Thank you! I learned a lot! The 3600 or above part was interesting. I look forward to having a full keypad (something I do not have with the Garmin G1000 and the "bump/twist" FMS knob)!
really really love it! keep this kind of videos up they are just awesome, very useful :) btw sir i have a question…i've heard many pilots on social media talking about "transition altitude", what is it?
it's amazing how many factors affect flight from Weight, Fuel Consumption, Wind, Temperature/Pressure. So much math is being calculated on the fly in that computer! But I wonder....How did early commercial pilots of the early 20th century plan and manage their flights such as those who flew the Ford Tristar, DC-3, etc. that would be interesting to see!
Thanks, really good explanation, and very in-depth. Could you possibly make a video on flight plans and who fills in specific information at particular stages of the flight? Would be very much appreciated. Have a fantastic day! :)
Thanks a lot! X-plane 11, both 737 and 747, after selecting runway and sids, trans remains empty and I can't move forward. Please help me out if possible. Really appreciate!
+LUX Spotting 6 tons is what will be on board the aircraft for departure. 3.4 after the / cymbol is the actual value of fuel on board, you can see it increasing as they're currently refueling. If the planned fuel (6 tons) is not entered the FMC calculates the Gross weight and related aircraft performance with the fuel on board (3.4 tons at that moment). Entering 6 tons in planned fuel tells the FMC to make his calculations with 6 tons and not with the fuel currently on board.
Thanks for your video, need some help. I ran into problem with the auto pilot for PMDG 737. Sometimes i could activate the auto pilot during take off, other times, it wouldn't light up at all. For auto pilot to be activated, I understand that there are two conditions: 1. Set altitude, or 2. program the route in FMC, Since I'm doing a quick flight to test VS and FLC in auto pilot mode, I set the altitude only. But during the climb, the auto pilot button didn't light up when I press the button. Which step did I miss out?
Awesome videos Petter! I love this kind of videos! I have a question... i saw that you charge into your FMC the landing runway... but if the weather changes during flight you can put other runway inmediately on the FMC? I mean is not a problem a suddenly change of rwy.?
Should be presented in building block steps, explaining each step, where the data comes from, what order it is entered, and how to avoid mistakes and achieving false data.
Hi Mentour, thanks for the vid. This feels like a lot of work ; in case of a diversion to another airport, what happens ? Do you have to go through this system and program the new route ? Or is there a more straight forward way that you will use ? Thanks !
I was trying to show this to my roommate to highlight why I prefer the Boeing style FMC over the Airbus MCDU, mainly cuz I learned the Boeing so the Airbus is just too different for me to care to learn
FMS=Flight management system That's like a big computer system that controls everything and you can give input to it with the CDU(=control display unit) what he was doing here. FBW.. Do you mean fly by wire maybe?
Here is the explanation of fly by wire: ''Movements of flight controls are converted to electronic signals transmitted by wires, and flight control computers determine how to move the actuators at each control surface to provide the ordered response. The fly-by-wire system also allows automatic signals sent by the aircraft's computers to perform functions without the pilot's input, as in systems that automatically help stabilize the aircraft, or prevent unsafe operation of the aircraft outside of its performance envelope.'' I think the 737 doesn't have this. Most Airbus types have it and I think the 787 and 777 too. So with fbw the computer takes more control itself and corrects your input.
I've noticed you enter 2.4 tons as your reserve. However in other videos I've seen pilots enter FINAL reserve which is usually around one ton (depending on your alternate). Could you clue me in on that? Thanks!
Reserve - Fuel needed to fly a missed approach at destination, divert to alternate and fly the full arrival. Once we hit our reserve fuel, we need to decide if we are going to divert, or commit to our destination. Final reserve - Fuel emergency, 30 Mins of fuel left. 737 burns 2.4 tonnes an hour, so 1.2 tonnes ( around that figure ) will be your final reserve. If you hit your final reserve amount, you must call a mayday.
Hello, Sir This made me wonder, how does someone meeting a passenger track a flight and schedule with say a 40 minute delay or had to use an alternate airport? Meaning how long from your real time in flight and that new information is available for someone on the ground and how does that happen? Enjoy the channel, thank you.
I have a question. Do you need a military background to become a pilot in UK or Europe? I've been looking everywhere and cannot find a yes or no answer.
Capt. Mentour, What is ROUTE DISCONTINUITY ? How do you correct the problem ? Who generates the flight plan ? I thought the Capt. was responsible to generate, file , print and submit ? JohnnyCharles61
I think.. the flight management computer is like the google maps for civil aviation.. just like we select our destination and stops and we navigate through it...😁
can you get this kind of flight plan for free? i cant seem to find one that gives you as much information as your flight plan, btw more of this please thanksss!!!
+Mentour Pilot OK, so still if you are for example flying from Stockholm to malaga or a long route, you still enter it all manually? thank you Mentour☺
+MrHampus99 Yes there, per every 1000ft the temperature drops by 2 degrees celsius. Formula is [15-(2x(altitude/1000))] that formula gives you standard temperature at that altitude, so you just have to compare it to the actual. eg at 10000ft ISA temp = -5 (try it in the formula). If the actual temp is 10, then the deviation is +15.
Absolutely loved it Petter! I would be grateful if you could continue doing these tutorials in the cockpit. Keep up the awesome videos man and fly safe!
I can't tell you how valuable this is.
You just helped me with my PMDG 737, I love you man, Thank You.
You are more than welcome!
It's a great pleasure and honor to watch a tutorial video from actual flight deck. Looking forward for full preparation from C&D to T/O. :-) Cheers!

I fly the PMDG 737 a lot so I really enjoyed this video! :-D
+LUX Spotting me too
+LUX Spotting Yeah it's nice to see that the PMDG is accurate.
Me too!
+LUX Spotting same here :D i use simbrief's OFP which is identical to this one :D
haha me too! Good resource.
As a teenager in 2013, a pilot let me input these flight settings into his 737 plane on route to LAX. Was an awesome experience!
Great video ! Thanks !!
It would be awesome to have a cockpit prep video, overhead, FCU etc.
Quite well explained than most of the simmer making tutorials . before this video, none of the simmers taught well that which arrival to use and which transition to put...
Wow PMDG 737 NGX is so realistic, i already knew how to setup the FMC prior to watching this video! Great job ***** keep these type of videos coming!
+Mentour Pilot As I know FSX and Prepar3d are for windows OS only (someone correct me if I'm wrong). If your Mac is running windows then no problem.
+Mentour Pilot To answer your question, yes, it's fully compatible with Mac. As long as you have FSX or P3D installed there, it will run just fine.
+Mark Purpose There are many workarounds to that, but its possible. Bootcamp for example..
Thank Mr. Pilot for your explanation. I use it to build my professioncy as a Locomotive Driver. Specifically Saa.
Keep up the videos man, you're videos are really unique, interesting and helpful.
great video! awesome to see a video from the cockpit. Hopefully more to come :)
Awesome work man ! Keep making cockpit instruments videos
Awesome video! Keep them coming!

Very nice walkthrough!
that was awesome 🙌🏾🙌🏾

Really really cool to watch. Your flight plans give you so much information! That is awesome.

Pmdg amazingly replicated all these
Love this Flight plan ;)
Excellent and very useful information. Thank you!
I really enjoyed this video
This was so awesome! Thank you! Thumbs Up!
This was so useful, thank you!
Appreciated, very wonderful
Great!! More such videos please!
Awesome So Simplified Lucid !!
Wonderful Indeed would appreciate for more
this was awesome! i enjoyed it and learned alot!
really really love it! keep this kind of videos up they are just awesome, very useful :) btw sir i have a question…i've heard many pilots on social media talking about "transition altitude", what is it?
Transition altitude it the altitude you can go to your next leg they are usually on the chart underlined at the next leg.
Wow this was awesome. Really interesting!
Very nice video!!!
How do you know what SID to choose? Sorry, much of a beginner. But I'm trying to learn how to work the FMC fully.
It's listed on the flight plan.
1NightInParis You should pick one yourself which suits the first waypoint
1NightInParis or sometimes the ATC assigns you one
Very informative video, thanks for sharing, Sir.
Thank YOU for supporting the channel!
2:43 what do u call the chart

Probably not as technical and yielded low efficiency
They used full fuel tanks. Back then, fuel was very cheap...
Thanks, really good explanation, and very in-depth. Could you possibly make a video on flight plans and who fills in specific information at particular stages of the flight? Would be very much appreciated. Have a fantastic day! :)
The videos are great, will we ever see some GoPro flight deck action?
+ScottishFlyerHD can't, his airline doesn't allow video in the cockpit
Please can you tell me where your full tutorial video is of the FMC. I cant seem to see it on the app.
What is the difference between ILSZ and ILSY? Thanks!
Im on the PMDG 737 in msfs and wow it makes my head hurt. I'm new to all this stuff.
amazing sir thanks
Dear Mentor)) Lets talk about Assumed temperature, D-RATE Trust and NADP1 procedure on Boeing 737-800.
Hello,
really nice Video.
Just one Question: is this in the real Aircraft or in a Simulator?
Thx
Matthias
Thanks a lot! X-plane 11, both 737 and 747, after selecting runway and sids, trans remains empty and I can't move forward. Please help me out if possible. Really appreciate!
Really great video, would it be possible to do all the warning tests, fire tests Ect
+Mentour Pilot That would be fantastic,
03:20 -> what is this fuel value? Is it the fuel onboard or the estimated burned fuel on arrival?
+LUX Spotting 6 tons is what will be on board the aircraft for departure. 3.4 after the / cymbol is the actual value of fuel on board, you can see it increasing as they're currently refueling. Ok thanks!
good video !
Hey Mentour, does it make a difference which flight school I go to?
Thanks for your video, need some help.
I ran into problem with the auto pilot for PMDG 737. Sometimes i could activate the auto pilot during take off, other times, it wouldn't light up at all.

Very good, could you explain the details of Glide Slope Please Thank You
Anyone noticed he was giving us the middle all through he video?
Thanks much . now its even more fun doing this in the simulator . do you have the pmdg 737 ?
Awesome videos Petter! I love this kind of videos! I have a question... i saw that you charge into your FMC the landing runway... but if the weather changes during flight you can put other runway inmediately on the FMC? I mean is not a problem a suddenly change of rwy.?
Can you please recreate the FMC video with more details???
Thanks
Where did you get all the info to enter in your FMC? Was it from RouteFinder(website)? Does route finder have all the info in details?
This information is coming from the airline itself. It's called an OFP. If you want these for flight sim, check out SimBrief.
What is the CO ROUTE for?
May I ask is there any way to find the wind information for each waypoint of the flight?
Lovely Video, just one comment When you are copying something from paper, just point to it with a pen or something so we know which number you mean
what does fcm stand fod
I just made the flight in PMDG and it worked fine except for too much speed at the end and the auto pilot disconnected but I landed fine anyway.
if you can, maybe for a different flight, make a video of continued programing with the load sheet data?
Should be presented in building block steps, explaining each step, where the data comes from, what order it is entered, and how to avoid mistakes and achieving false data.
Hi Mentour, thanks for the vid. This feels like a lot of work ; in case of a diversion to another airport, what happens ? Do you have to go through this system and program the new route ? Or is there a more straight forward way that you will use ? Thanks !

What is it for ?
Wonderfull my friends ;)
why do you change the wind data of LAGEN ?
What is the difference between FBW and FMS? Or are they different?
Hello How can we reset the app B737 CDU.?
Do you use jeppesen charts or Aip charts in the aircraft.
Thanks. 😀
+Mentour Pilot ok thanks
I've noticed you enter 2.4 tons as your reserve. However in other videos I've seen pilots enter FINAL reserve which is usually around one ton (depending on your alternate). Could you clue me in on that? Thanks!
Reserve - Fuel needed to fly a missed approach at destination, divert to alternate and fly the full arrival.

Final reserve - Fuel emergency, 30 Mins of fuel left. 737 burns 2.4 tonnes an hour, so 1.2 tonnes ( around that figure ) will be your final reserve.
If you hit your final reserve amount, you must call a mayday.
Was that the pmdg 737 you were using?
MegaAirplanelover this is real life
Hi ! nice tuto btw. I gotta ask? Do you know a website that gives everything to know about a flight plan? Except RouteFinder? thx
SimBrief is your best option. If you're looking for something more complex, then PFPX.
Hi where do i get all charts
Hello, Sir
This made me wonder, how does someone meeting a passenger track a flight and schedule with say a 40 minute delay or had to use an alternate airport? I have a question. Do you need a military background to become a pilot in UK or Europe? I've been looking everywhere and cannot find a yes or no answer.
+Luke Mettam Gaming No, you don't need a military background to become a pilot, but you'll need a lot of money ;)
Thanks for answering, its because I want to become a pilot and didn't know if I needed to join the military first.
Moron
Did anybody ask you for your comment? Can you explain why one wouldnt need money to become a pilot (besides FSX)? haha
What means to add A and B when I set altitude in leg ?
A at or above
B below
Do your airline have company routes? (as in they can be loaded into to the FMC)
+Golffoxtrotcharlie His airline doesnt use that as far as I know..
That's what I thought too ;)
how i can i get the way points
737 can you please reply
same chart you showed
Mentour Pilot thnxx sir for helping
i am from the older guard. This is faster then what i fly.
When I put the airway first, it indicates me an airway/waypoint mismatch
It needs to be the correct airway and the route discontinuity is normal until you connect it to the next point.
i made sure it was. I did the exact same thing you did.
Hiii sir my self kaustubh.. I hav fsx steam edition in that pmdg 737 I unable to build vabb to ooms route plz guide me
Capt. Mentour,
What is ROUTE DISCONTINUITY ? How do you correct the problem ? Who generates the flight plan ? I thought the Capt. was responsible to generate, file , print and submit ? JohnnyCharles61
THANK YOU so much. JohnnyCharles61
Is this using simbrief?
Why not zoom in and highlight where you are getting your FMC inputs from the flight plan?
i had checked chart and flight planner also
I think.. the flight management computer is like the google maps for civil aviation.. just like we select our destination and stops and we navigate through it...😁
can you get this kind of flight plan for free? i cant seem to find one that gives you as much information as your flight plan, btw more of this please thanksss!!!
Jhonny Flappernutter You can use simbrief, its free and from the flight plan used from this video it looks exactly alike
I thought you used company routes? Or is that only at some specific routes you do that? Thanks
+Mentour Pilot OK, so still if you are for example flying from Stockholm to malaga or a long route, you still enter it all manually? thank you Mentour☺
+Mentour Pilot OK, thank you, you're so inspiring and keep my passion alive. Thank you Mentour!
Is there an actual way to determine the ISA DEV temp?
+MrHampus99 Yes there, per every 1000ft the temperature drops by 2 degrees celsius.
Formula is [15-(2x(altitude/1000))] that formula gives you standard temperature at that altitude, so you just have to compare it to the actual. eg at 10000ft ISA temp = -5 (try it in the formula). If the actual temp is 10, then the deviation is +15.
+Juan Carballedo Got it, Thank you! ;)
Welcome mate!
I know it's 6 years old, I really hope you sorted your recording sound out I had to max out my volume to hear you. Great video though
do you fly the same plane over and over again.
+Mentour Pilot thanks a lot but one more thing I'm so sorry but how do I come out of the aviation closet to my pearents.
+Mentour Pilot thanks that's all.
The input delay in that CDU would do my head in :(
