Am I correct in understanding that five more sets will be revealed, and we'll get a separate vote for them too? In which case, can 2 sets from the same round make the final cut?
I was committed to any Goonies that made it through. I am thrilled LEGO let us vote for this crowd-favourite behemoth. It is exactly what the IP deserves. I think Goonies crushes the competition because of the quality of the build and the love surrounding the IP. I hope LEGO will treat this set like a Rivendell and pull out all the stops. If anything, I think they should add custom sails so that we can choose to display the ship as it looks at the end of the film. The mast looks like it's built to be easily straightened, after all. I assume they weren't there because custom pieces aren't allowed. Fingers crossed!
Worth noting--Lego is saying they're going to make *2* sets from this challenge, with a whole second vote yet to come (presumably with other submissions not in this one).
It's also a thing that not all of these are popular or even known in some countries. I've never heard of the goonies and I can't imagine they would make anything this big for a less universaly known movie.
Congrats on your incredible work. I love the Karate Kid House, which I've seen in earlier submissions, but that Goonies set, which is new to me, is simply out of this world.
Really sad fraggle rock didn’t make it. Other than that, theses look great, so happy we’ll get two, and, keep in mind, if there’s a Goonies set we’re probably not going to get a pirate island set. I could see Lego making et and gremlins on their own, but Beetlejuice and karate kid are more of a once in lifetime chance to get these sets.
Yea The Goonies is winning, absolutely incredible. Shoutout to that Gremlins set too though. Surprised that didn’t get more attention initially, Hopefully they can make it someday as well. Edit: just read there’s two winners! Perfect
The Goonies for sure, looks the best imo, and I grew up watching that movie. It's just a superbe set as shown. Fingers crossed. ET is a close second tbh. And as you mentioned in the pinned comment, 2 of these are made? So these 2 for sure.
Gremlins is so clever by combining winter village and 80's cinéma. But the goonies is super detailed and awesome but Lego will ruin it by shrinking it for sure. ❤
@@Stud-Lord yeah, but can send a message to Lego that the creators who power the contests deserve to be treated fairly and not have the rules changed after a contest submission ends …
Same here. I'm also going with Gremlins simply because I've been a fan of this design for some time now (back when it was submitted via the standard Lego IDEAS program). Plus, the snowy aesthetic goes with my Lego City. But, like you, I'd be happy with any (or indeed all) of these sets. Whichever one of these win, I'll be getting it.
I was tempted to say the Karate Kid was my favorite (before seeing the 5th one) ... not a fan, but the build is SO GREAT! The Goonies hands down is the best !
Shame the Bud Spencer and Terrence Hill didn’t make it I would have liked to see it as a set Goonies should win (hopefully) Would be cool to see Karate kid such a nice set
I pounced on the Goonies set vote immediately. If this is meant to be for 80's kids, then they shouldn't simplify it, we can cope with a complex build, and we have more chance of having disposable income. LEGO GIVE ME THAT SET AS IS, PLEASE, IF IT WINS!!! ISTG if it wins and they ruin it, there will be letters sent. Furious ones.
Karate Kid set makes the most sense. Looks good on its own or it'll go great with the Lego bonsai tree. Goonies is impressive but let's be practical, only being able to see one side really brings it down imo. Half of my money spent on the set won't be seen unless I go out and get a mirror for the display, on top of the cost of the set? No thanks. Same problem with the Gremlins house but at least it's a smaller set, will be more affordable, the front side looks really, really good, and... a Lego Phoebe Cates minifig? Only a Labyrinth Jennifer Connelly minifig could be better!
Looking at comments I think I’m in the minority but the E.T set wins this for me by far. I know the edits will be minimal and I can put it on my wall, saving me shelving space!
@@Stud-Lord Does anyone remember when someone submitted the Taylor house (I had to look up the surname; one of my all-time favourite movies and I never knew what Elliot and Gertie's family name was) via Lego IDEAS? As a Lego City fan, I'd have snapped it up in a heartbeat, but I don't suppose it would have been a very commercial proposition since unlike the Home Alone house and even the Gremlins house, there's nothing especially iconic about it. In any case, I 100% agree that E.T. needs to be done in Lego, and it kind of makes sense that it would be that iconic poster, but even though E.T. is my favourite film of the five (although they're all great), it's probably my least favourite set, simply because it's a display set rather than one that could be incorporated into a city, other than as a backdrop. That said, Brickester is actually my favourite Lego fan designer.
I'm an 80s kid, so, quite frankly, whichever one of these sets is chosen, I'm practically guarateed to be purchasing it. Funnily enough, my least favourite set of the five is the one based on my favourite film of the bunch (i.e. E.T. a five star classic movie) and from my all-time favourite Lego fan designer (i.e. Brickester), and it's not because the set isn't any less than brilliant. It's an inspired take on that iconic movie poster. But I'm a Lego City guy (which is one of the reasons I'm such a big fan of Brickester who mostly submits modular building ideas via the IDEAS or Bricklink programs), so I want a set that can be easily incorporated into my city. All the other sets work for that purpose, but if I have to finally settle one one, it'll probably be the Gremlins set. Apart from it not having a back wall (a personal bugbear for me), it's otherwise perfect, and since my city is set in a permanent Northern Hemisphere December/pre-Christmas (circa early 1990s), it would look particularly good side by side with the Home Alone house. But honestly, I'd be overenjoyed if any of these succeed in becoming sets. I just hope that if the E.T. set is chosen, it will come with a fully coloured Elliot minifig, and not simply a silhouette of Elliot with E.T. on the bike.
To me the Karate Kid set makes the most sense. Most reasonable pricepoint imo, appeals to city fans too, and is a great looking build on it's own, even divorced from its IP. The Beetlejuice set is too boring, Christmas sets are too niche, and the Goonies set looks good, but is too big a risk at that size. ET is a relatively safe bet, since it's a smaller set, and they'll cut down the number of tree pieces a lot.
A-Team is still a possibility through the regular Lego IDEAS program (although it's probably too much to hope that they'll give the go ahead to that *and* two of these 80s sets).
