I had the good fortune of seeing Sun Ra perform at the Detroit Institute of Arts in the mid 80's. Definitely one of the best shows I have had the pleasure of seeing.

I remember Sun Ra's Arkestra being in residence in Detroit for an extended period (around 1980-81), We would go to downtown to their hotel during the day where the members were hanging and had interesting conversations with several of them about music and everything else. They also gave impromptu music lessons on their respective instruments. (We didnt see the very reclusive Sun Ra. You didnt talk to Sun Ra and he was basically unapproachable.). They were a tight group and all them revered Sun Ra.). Seeing them perform front row was an eye opening experience. The Arkestra would play out then play a barrage of Ellington charts-straight then in their "unique" way).

Now the thing about this concert in East Berlin is that after this concert 2 weeks after being home,, back in the states,, the Berlin Wall came down after many years of oppressio,, did you read it was on TV I say it was SunRa's music and that band and his convictions and his aditude toward the music and the people, I learned a lot of my spiritual practice, that I still use today with great success being and learning from SunRa Really sharpen my intuition
