I saw and experienced RA 3 times in the late 80s and early 90s and even went to his funeral in Alabama in 1993. Sonny was a gifted human being in this world and the next.
Eve of christmas eve. Bout time my neighbors hear this. For next 2 months im going to only listen to Arkestra and see what happens here in Central Richmond CA
Unfortunately, I never experienced the Arkestra live, having not even discovered Sun Ra until the late 90's. However, judging solely from the audio, I can tell this was an amazing show!! I've seen a video or two of them live in earlier years, and it was AWESOME, so I can't imagine anything less with this one. Sun Ra was truly OUT OF THIS WORLD!!
Michael you had to be there.. saw Sun Ra and full Arkestra dozens of times .. when they had the great John Gilmore on tenor sax and Pat Patrick on baritone, among others. ( first time in 1969').. between the incredible music , the group of dancers that performed with the arkestra, and the amazing vocals of June Tyson it was really a life-changing experience as per music..as great as it is listening to this incredible music or watching old concerts on say UA-cam i will tell you that it was beyond words when you saw it live back in the day... Straight ahead ..
Saw them a half dozen or so times between 1982 & 1991, by then they were a shadow of their former greatness, but nevertheless, very Memorable Occasions. I was born 1960, was only expanding my musical horizons beyond the Zappa, Euro Prog, Grateful Dead I'd gotten into in high school, & the Fusion Jazz I got into in College, so in my early 20's, the 1st couple times were a little over my head, but eventually "Got It". One time (1987?) was at a punk club in New Haven ("The Grotto"), those spiked hairdo Freaks got to meet an Arkestra of Freeks on a whole new level! Was in the bathroom & the Arkestra guys were Celebrating one of their members just getting out on parole that day. A Joyous occasion! We shared a J of the Kind in Celebration! Fun times!
@@sideshowbob you not going to bealive, I was visiting the grotto the same day, with a gang from Peru! I lived in New haven all the 86', move to Lowell mass, this guy's universe travelers! Out of this world.
Imagine being able to see this and then drive down to DC to see the Grateful Dead lay waste to RFK stadium just a few days later. Ah, the good old days! Almost makes me miss Nixon. 😂
@@intergalaxtic Jason thank you for the upload of great music...i met Sun Ra several times ( along with the members of the arkestra way back in the day. )(early - mid 1970s)..before & after club dates in NYC.. they were all very friendly and quite intelligent cats.. especially one memorable conversation after a club date at the old jazz club the Five Spot with a few members of the band.. again thank you for the great music.

4 months later, I attended my first Arkestra show, 15 years old🙏 Life changing and affirming, so grateful💫

André 3000 just got on the path of the sun and i am delighted
Sun Ra was a major influence on OutKast, particularly the ATLiens album.
I heard the great Charles Davis on baritone sax (e.g. a bari solo on "Untitled Improvisation II").
Hipermega great!!

Did you ever meet SUN RA ? You have so much of his rare music uploaded, most not even on discogs. Much respect. Thank you.
No I was just a kid when he departed. Glad you are enjoying the videos.
Rephrase your statement

You listen to Sun Ra and realize, damn I ain't patting my feet but this shit is good....
Sun-Ra was beyond his time. His artistry is on another level. He was light years ahead of the times. His artistry will be infinite.
you can tap your feet to sum of it
