The two shows I saw were certainly memorable I was also fortunate enough to see trumpeter Michael Ray with his Cosmic Krewe , Col. Bruce Hampton & with members of Phish
I got to see the Sun Ra Arkestra led by Marshall Allen after his passing, but I will tell you now… It was just like this. His spirit was there. It’s incredible how they are still carrying on. If you can see them… Definitely do it
Sun Ra -piano, synthesizer, vocals Ronnie Brown - trumpet Tyrone Hill - trombone Marshall Allen - alto saxophone, flute, oboe, percussion John Gilmore - tenor saxophone, clarinet, vocals, timbales Ronald Wilson - tenor saxophone Danny Ray Thompson - bariton saxophone, flute, percussion Eloe Omoe - alto saxophone, bass clarinet, cacl, percussion James Jacson - bassoon, flute, Inf-d, vocals Bruce Edwards - electric guitar Rollo Radford - standup, electric bass Avreeayl Amen Ra - drums, percussion June Tyson - vocals, dance
This is slightly off. Pat Patrick is there also, along Danny Thompson on Baritone sax and the Trombone player is not Tyrone, possibly Charles Stephens?. I don't think Ronald Wilson is on there either.
sorry that personnel list is way off, more like 1982-3 (Ronnie Brown) or 1986 (Ronald Wilson). I can tell you the reeds L-R are: Marshall Allen - alto, flute, oboe, kora Danny Thompson - baritone, alto, flute, bongos John Gilmore - tenor, clarinet, timbales Kenny Williams - baritone, tenor Noel Scott - baritone, alto, flute Elo Omoe - bass clarinet, flute James Jackson - bassoon, flute, Ancient Egyptian Infinity Drum behind them: Atakatune -- congas Michael Ray - trumpet Tony Bethel - trombone behind them: Taylor Richardson - guitar (I think, possibly Skeeter McFarland or Disco Kid?) No idea who is on drums, it was usually Eric "Samurai" Walker and Luqman Ali in those days but don't recognize them here) No idea who's on bass either Teddy Thomas is among the dancers
Going to see the Sun-Ra-Arkestra headed by Marshall Allen this Sat. July 20, 2024. The West Kortright Centre, 49 West Kortright Church Road. East Meredith, NY . Beam me up!!!!!!
Always loved the sound, depth & extraordinary versatility of Sun Ra & The Arkestra. There's never a wonder that you will hear everything & all things in style of something relative to music & your world as.it.connects to his. Great performance. Thank you Sun Ra & the entire Arkestra for all you have given us.
Stunning show. The cliché of “nothing compares to being there” is true. The records will always be educational & inspiring, but the live experience is transcendental.
Amazing! Never thought I would see this complete concert again and never knew the whole concert was filmed. Incredible! Only Space is the Place has been broadcasted by Dutch TV once.
Thos incredible guy is a magician after all his power makes a distance instead he shows us what the sound can be so powerful it's a great message for our feelings and the long and big concert make us feel very conscient of reallity.
Jay! Where have you been all our lives!? Where do you find this stuff!? And how could this incredible video have been buried all these years!? Thank you so much!
Ra, you to this day and I've seen you many times in Chicago....You are truly of the the other and will return as an eternal being an inspiration to to the willing and endearing. As of no other.
Where have you been all our lives? ! Gobsmacking performance from mR MysTErI and his fourth dimensional multiverse arkestra. Saturnalian Spiritualily ❤
Love it...all considerable artistic and philosophical considerations aside...how purely goddam ENTERTAINING would it have been to witness this? You'd be headed home with a huge smile on your face for sure.
Great concert, thanks so much making this heritage art available on YT. Too bad the last question on using much visual art in his show was cut off too short as Sun Ra was not done with his explanation. Otherwise, much insight into the Q. & A. session with new nuggets of insight revealed not shown from other interview sessions. He seemed more comfortable performing on the European scene, perhaps. Peace.
Looks like they took the stage at 2:30am which was the final time slot every night, back before computers turned everyone into willing work drones living on the boss' schedule I guess. The weird splice at 1:20:00 excludes the first minute of "The Sky is a Sea of Darkness" shown in this heavily edited version ua-cam.com/video/3ZwW3tw86SY/v-deo.html
Blessed to have seen Sun Ra and the Arkestra multiple dozens of times and meet Sun Ra, Marshall Allen, John Gilmore, Band, Epic!!!!!
