We are a family dedicated to adventure, conservation of wildlife, and all things nature. We are a reptile rescue and breeding facility for more than ten years, offering refuge to those who need it, and working everyday to protect the beautiful world of reptiles in any way we can. Here on our UA-cam channel you will be able to join us on our animal adventures while learning how to care for, protect, properly identify, feed and even breed many species of turtle, tortoise, snake and lizard. Much respect to all the owners who realize when they can’t provide what the animal needs to thrive, and find a suitable home who can. It’s never easy to give away a pet, especially some of the older animals who’ve been with their owners 10+ years, but it’s one last act of love to find a home that will love and look after them and provide what they need❤

I have a 5 year old mediterranean spur thighed tortoise. I have had him since a hatchling. He is like otitis and lucky. So friendly, follows us around loves cuddles and kisses.

I’ve lived in south Texas my whole life and I’ve only seen a Texas tortoise twice.
In the wild they’re fairly shy and stay away from people and they’re a threatened species and protected in both Texas and Mexico (so if you see someone selling wild-caught Texas tortoises, don’t buy it. It’s being sold by poachers).
Other native turtle species in this part Texas, like red-eared sliders, ornate box turtles, and diamondback terrapins, are a bit more gregarious and plentiful, so it makes Texas tortoises extra special.

I encountered a young family contemplating purchasing a Russian tortoise at Pet Smart. They didn’t and I talked to them about the pitfalls of imported tortoises and referred them to your UA-cam channel for further education.
That's GREAT! Having them be better prepared and then buying from a reputable breeder is a huge help to new tortoise owners - and the tortoises, too!

It hurts, believe me!
I was a child when I tried to kiss a turtle and cuddle it with my nose… the turtle took a hard bite of my nose and it hurt horribly… I ended up with a nasty mark on my nose for a while and kids at school would make fun of me until it got healed… Sure learned the hard way not to cuddle up with my nose anymore… I would kiss him sideways or on top of it’s head lightly, but one day I did that and huge mistake!Lol
Otis looks like Lucky maybe a strong contender for mosr personable, I adore how turtles and tortoises look so wise. Their eyes seem to look into your soul. Thank you and Casey for loving what you do and sharing it with all of us.

Man…you just have to love Otis, he is one of a kind. Your two new surrendered tortoises look really well cared for, that is so nice to see. The babies are adorable. Seeing both Athena and Luigi looking so much better is awesome, I’m glad they are doing so well. Lucky is a delight, Otis will be jealous, because Lucky will be looking for equal time lol. Iris is looking very content with her new home, I wonder if she ever tries to head deeper into that horizon…it looks so real. From your video's I remember that your group of Testudo hermanni boettgeri is from the Macedonian local form. Don't you worry about the purity of the local form when you add this male and the male from the previous video to your existing group?
I never said I would add to the Macedonian group. They’ll go into an existing group of Boettgeri that don’t have locality data. I have an entire website dedicated to Hermann’s and other Testudo, so I take that very seriously, more than most do. It’s HermanniHaven.com

Got a question.... maybe a subject for a future video? (Other than quarantine for health issues), what steps do y'all take (if any) to make sure new arrivals will be okay when placed with a big established group? Lucky, for instance, who maybe hasnt ever been with other tortoises...how do you know/figure out when one is, say, an Otis, who might not do well with others, vs when they can acclimate to a group environment?

I’m going to be taking in a Russian tortoise but don’t know how old it is. How can I tell if it’s an adult or a juvenile? Or how many years?
I have a question. My Red Eard Sliders are water box trained. They do not live in their big tank in the winter. The wander & brumate. I keep a large pan of water & offer food if they are up & about. They always potty in the water? Never on the floor.
I would so love to have a Herman's or Russian tortoise. But would they do well in Southern Eastern BC Canada climate.
