@@riverAmazonNZ Their jaws are built differently from ours. They have more bones that take part in the actual articulation of the jaw than we do. Mammals moved a few of those jaw bones into the ear canal to hear better, actually! I was learning about this today in a Mammalogy class. It's roughly the same function-wise, but I suspect that they have a bit more leeway in how big of a thing they can swallow as a result. (A hand moves to grab better than chopsticks, to give a sort of reference for what I'm imagining.) As long as it fits in their esophagus, that's food. Snakes are unique in being specifically adapted to take large meals, but even they can get themselves into trouble with eyes bigger than their stomachs! Just to be clear- this is mostly speculation on my end on if their jaws have anything to do with it at all. Cool to think about though and now I'm curious. I'll have to ask my professor about this sometime.
Yeah my daughters beardie got paralyzed. I think the cricket grew in its tank after it was purchased and brought home. Didn't slow Sparks down at all😅🦎

I love how even now I'll learn things I never knew about reptiles from y'all- the lack of spinal disks and the potential ramifications of oversized food for lizards was something I never even considered
7:48 Dear editor, if Emily is explaining something, could you please put the info in the top left corner instead of the bottom left? Because the captions are in the bottom left overlapping the video, so anyone who uses/depends on those, now has to turn them off and fidget with the video, just to be able to read the explanation.
Might as well keep a couple of breeding size females with a male. I think very soon, Chinese cave geckos are going to explode in popularity like crested geckos have because of how relatively beginner friendly they are. Plus they are beautiful geckos!
Are they difficult to take care of, in your opinion? I’ve been considering getting back into the reptile ownership space for a while, but this is the first species where I’ve sat up and said “oh, hello!” in a while…
@@khills I think Clints Reptiles us tdid a video on them and I know Wickens Wicked Reptiles has been shouting aboutt how amazing they are for a while so I'd check out their videos too! (I only have a chameleon gecko so can't speak for Chinese cave geckos but I believe they are fairly easy - sort of like any New Caledonian species).
@@khills they're actually very easy to take care of! At least my guy is. I have 5 geckos (crested, gargoyle, mossy leaf tail, leopard, and Chinese cave) and out of all of them he's the chillest and very low maintenance. I've had him for about 2 years now, and I rarely see him. He just hangs out in his cave all day sleeping. Sometimes I catch him out late at night climbing around his enclosure. He's pretty picky with his food tho. He only likes fast moving insects, so crickets are all that he'll eat and sadly we can't get dubia roaches in Canada. Sometimes I can get him to eat a mealworm if I move it around with tweezers for him lol. He's also super chill with being handled, and just lays on my hands. I also have him in a bioactive enclosure, and that's made it even easier to care for him. So overall I'd definitely recommend getting one!!
@@minillaz Thank you for such a thorough reply; really appreciate it! I’m a night owl, and it sounds like the species might live on a schedule compatible. 😉
I love this time of year ❤ I've made little reptile Happytats in my yard to attract lizards and snakes for pest control in the garden and there are baby Anoles everywhere right now and I saw our first Garter snake the other night!
I found some mini wood bird houses at Joann for 75¢, so I painted one and put it in the planter where my Mediterranean house gecko friends live. The house geckos are two that I found at different times in my house, so I put them in that planter on my patio where they’re relatively safe. I’m pretty sure one is male and one is female so I’m hoping there’s still time in the year to get baby Mediterranean house geckos. These guys are so cute! When I water the plants (gently) one of them hides, and the other runs in circles around the plants as fast as he can. It’s like rain makes him happy, so he dances in it, lol. If I could keep them as genuine pets, I would. They’re so cool.
@@FreedomAnderson The title of the videos Clint makes about pets is a question. His answer is frequently a qualified yes, but often it's a resounding "NO", such as his videos on dragon snakes, chameleons, hedgehogs, most turtles, or vipers. It's uncommon for him to say X species is definitely one of the best pets you could possibly have. By saying this about cave geckos he's rating them up there with his top recommendations like corn snakes, hognose snakes, and emerald tree skinks.
It's so neat that they prefer to be at room temperature. It's pretty good timing since colleges and universities are back in session - lots of dorms have rules against small appliances that generate heat, so it's nice that these guys don't require any dedicated heat source! (and if you're not allowed to have pets in your dorm, as a result it might be easier to hide the enclosure when the RAs come around for inspections but shhh i won't tell 😋)
Cave Geckos are awesome! The various versions all are beautiful and fascinating little geckos for sure. Once I have some room I'd love to have a pair or something for sure, adorable babies!
When I first saw the geckos I thought it was just going to be a normal gecko They are so cute with the white stripes on them Snake Discovery has the best animals😊😊 5:45
for anyone who might be interested: zefrank just posted a new true facts video about how snakes move that is very awesome (it does have some adult language, though)

I love Chinese Cave Geckos bc they're just like: "Leopard Geckos but make them Emo" 😂🖤

"It's not just a phase, Mom!"
I guess all they need is some some hair over one of there eyes

The reasoning on why you shouldn't feed too large of an insect to a reptile was something I had NO idea about!
Me too! I’m surprised they can swallow an insect that is too big

Yeah for real
Hi 2:20
LMAOOOO the lil geckos are so jumpy, naming them after escape artists would be hilarious 😂😂😂
And prisoners who successfully broke out of prison lol 😂
I was shocked to see the title because I was like “since when did they start breeding geckos” lol. That’s crazy that the parents came with a bonus.
Not just a bonus, a whole bunch of clutches of them 😂
They also bred a different species of gecko a couple times.
Emily trying to wrangle tiny hordes is one of my favorite Snake Discovery genres.
This was the funniest video in a while. Emily now has had an experience similar to that of keeping toddlers under control 😂
So great! Also, loved the info on the new species. :D
Except that toddlers can often say “no!”
And they use that word at every opportunity. Lol.

I believe you can move CC around!
The Gekco journal entries were an absolute hoot! I love this character development..... they are little chaos goblins! I love them!
