I can think of few factors. Old days, they said kids bring fortune. More kids more fortune. In short, they hope one of their kid will get lucky & bring them out of poverty somehow, or help them with works. They're just winging it, we'll figure it out how to eat, tomorrow we'll find something. Same as most of us but different need. Like we can't exactly afford to pay our kids college tuition but we'll get it...somehow. And for poor people, intimacy might be the only stress relieve they can afford. And protection cost more than a bowl of rice.
