Thanks for the good info! If you ever want to boat fish with us let me know and we'll hit some stuff a bit more offshore!
Oh man I love you! You’ve been sharing so much knowledge and These are my local waters! I’m going to be ready to kill it when I get a kayak
Lol - glad i could be of service. Hit me up when you get your yak. HobieScout at gmail.
Wow that was probably your best show so far thank you for your knowledge of what the structure is
Thanks.
Yep, another good one, HB. Yours are very informative and useful. Hope to see you OTW one day. Cheers.
Thanks Nick.
Great video! Very educational and much appreciated. Just gave up spearfishing for Medical reasons and am now building a kayak rig to get back out there. Looking for knowledge just like this. Thank you.
Glad I could help.
Your videos are really good. You put alot of good info. For fellow yakers thanks!
Thank man.
*also if you wanna catch and release make sure you pinch the barb off. cause circle hooks can still get stuck in the gullet and it's even nastier to get out unless you're barbless.
Good point (no pun intended). Thanks.
Hey great information, keep it up, learning so much!
Thanks much!
Enjoyed the video. LOL @ the banana, pro delivery!
Thanks - gotta give Cheethoe props for being a good sport. He took it in stride and with a grin. As a matter of fact, I later learned that he had packed a couple in his lunchbox :)
Good stuff Voodoo!
Thank you.
Nice 👍
Thanks for the laugh. The banana part was classic I was dying 😂
Lol - unfortunately, it's just an old wives' tale. He caught plenty of fish.
Amazing fishing your great!keep it up!
Thanks, but i'm not really a great fisherman. I'm good at sharing, mostly :)
very cool deal man
Great stuff bro honestly the way you explained the circle hook i was like ohh dam wtf haha keep it up :) when i get my kayak i know who to hit up😂😭🙏💪👍 you earned a sub:)
Thank you.
Thanks for this...
Thank you for the nice comment.
I just a bought a kayak. A 3 water big fish 105. Thank you for the info. I live nearby. Ima add this to my list of spots.
Right on. On balance, I'd say the MDR Reef offers more action than the Redondo Reef.
Honeybadger VooDoo Outdoors have you ever launched out of cabrillo beach or fished the the break wall in the harbor ?
@@Lasurge1982 Yes, I have. Compared to Redondo, Cabrillo parking is a bigger hassle and isn't as safe. The fishery isn't as diversified. The paddle out to open water is much longer. But if your aim is to specifically a breakwall, then Cabrillo offers much more "breakwall" than Redondo.
Honeybadger VooDoo Outdoors thank you for the info. Very informative. I’m def going to try all the spots. I been float tubing the last 6 to 8 months at Los Alamitos Bay. Quickly I’ve been realizing that I am not able to paddle as far and as fast as a kayak. That is why I made the purchase. I am very new to kayaking. Is there a video on your channel that shows in detail how you’ve rigged up your kayak ? I know there is so many different ways that one could to accessorize there boat.
@@Lasurge1982 Hi, i don't have a comprehensive kayak-setup video, but I do have some informative videos on fish finders and their batteries. There is no other single piece of equipment that will have a greater impact in terms of putting fish on the boat. In terms of the absolute easiest place to launch a kayak (but not the best fishing), please see my video on Marina Del Rey.
I just subscribed to you a few days ago and your video is very informational, specially for newbie like me. I just got my dinghy and tried fishing at redondo a few times, not really successful. I'm just glad i stumbled on your channel. Maybe I'll spot you guys kayaking at redondo sometimes.
The struggle is real, and then once you figure it out, it all comes together. Do you have a fish finder? The surest bet in RB is probably the Palawan Wreck. You should check out that video.
I pretty much watched almost all your videos and replayed them to gain as much info. I recently got a garmin Striker, have not used it yet. I hope you keep releasing more videos on what to do for newbies like me.
@@geizerjin2637 well, you are a real trooper. Because some of the earliest videos are just god-awful, LOL. Deploying your fish finder will make all the difference in the world. Good luck out there.
Just subbed your channel man great information and action keep it up man. helpful knowledge for me and my friend just getting into yak fishing in the area. Do you think taking my Malibu stealth 9 would be pushing it taking it to palos verdes?
Hi, assuming that you are in good shape physically, I'd say Palos Verdes is "challenging", but within reach. Total mileage could be 10 miles ++, depending on how much exploring you decide to do there once you arrive. The most important factor is picking a good day in terms of swells and especially wind. You want to launch early, and pick a day with light winds blowing out of the South in the afternoon. That wind at your back will help a *bunch* once to decide to paddle home.

And you want to have a marine radio in case you need to call for help.
Great video.what rod with cortez?
Thanks. I do believe it's a Shimano Trevala 6'6" Medium.
Noobie question about gear. What brand and. Type of marine radio and fish finder would you recommend?
These are the items i personally use (Amazon affiliate links): Standard Horizon HX890 Black Handheld VHF - Floating 6 Watt Class H DSC Two Way Radio - amzn.to/3s5Q7CV
Garmin ECHOMAP UHD 64Cv, 6" Keyed Chartplotter with U.S. BlueChart G3 and GT24UHD-TM Transducer - amzn.to/311MUs2
Video that explains how to choose the right fishfinder - i'm a Garmin fan and feel like they represent the best value/features proposition: ua-cam.com/video/sCzDNBPDDig/v-deo.html
Where did you get ye vessel?
Aye lad - me vessel was bought used via the Ye Olde Craigslist Tribune.
What reel are you using at 7:10? If you don't mind me asking
I don't mind you asking at all. It's an Okuma Metaloid M5II 2-Speed. A lot of reel for the money, imo.

Thanks...great videos btw
What kind of battery are you using for your Garmin, I have the same unit and your running some major power to that thing.
hi, the Garmins can be fed anything from 10v to 20v. i've experimented with DIY lithium battery packs that outputted anything from about 12v to 18v. there are several videos on my channel that detail the experimentation. if you just want easy, i'd recommend this lithium battery - amzn.to/3nAZeJj (Amazon affiliate link). lasts all day with my unit. the bigger battery will last an entire wknd.
Hmm, yeah I use a 12v 9ah right now, but even when fully charged it only hits about 12.7 v, I've never seen a fish finder like ours hittin 14-16 volts before, but I'll check out your other videos, and keep em coming, I live Culver city so it's nice seeing someone actually make good videos in home waters
@@Trambo45 if you're using the old-school sealed lead acid batteries, you owe it to yourself to use lithium tech batteries. half the weight and dimensions. the barrier to entry was price, but that's no longer the case.
@@Trambo45 also, Redondo is easily the best and most varied fishery around us. the huge underwater canyon and the nearby kelp beds allow you to target just about every species there is around here in one day.
For sure, and yeah looks like I am using sealed battery, but after looking up that brand you recommended I'm gonna get one next week. Haven't been down to redondo yet, I've recently sold my solo skiff and got a Zodiac Cadet 350 with a 6hp Tohatsu, full speed I get on average 12 knots, about 13mph. Might cruise down to redondo from marina del rey tomorrow.
What fish finder is that?
It's a Garmin Striker 5cv. Nowadays, I run a Garmin Echomap 64cv.
One question? Any crabs under reef ?
to be honest, i couldn't tell you. but, i suspect "yes". i remember seeing a dude on a paddleboard roll in with a *nice* haul of crabs. he wasn't fishing the King Harbor wall, and the closest area with structure that i know of is the Reef. it's also within reach of a paddleboarder.
Perch-looking fish has been identified as a "Blacksmith Perch".
Loved your videos. New sub here.
Catch you soon
Thank you.
Was out fishing yesterday ran into Luis on white kayak headed in and on way back swell got huge kinda narly coming in break wall is this typical here!? Might be out this weekend if anybody around
Funny - I chatted with L-Train today. He told me the swells were kinda gnarly. Problem was, the intervals (seconds in betw swells) was really tight - like 6 seconds. That'll make for a hairy ride for sure. And YES, the water by mouth of the harbor is always the worst. You're actually much safer 2 miles offshore than near the mouth of the harbor.
@@honeybadgervoodoooutdoors7305 l train is luis he went in about 1 1/2 before me it was even bigger almost flipped twice had to turn into troffs then back in line first time fishing there caught 4 short halibut big trigger fish and a calico do u guys go out regularly? I find it hard to find people to fish with everyone says they want to go and then don't usually end up solo !
@@joeclifton8196 You can always check with me at HobieScout at gmail.
Fished redondo yesterday caught 5 short buts and like a dozen or so trigger fish they are big schools there fun fight maybe going tomorrow usually go towards pv maybe go west looking for halibut any suggestions?
@@joeclifton8196 I have to be honest - i have adult ADD, and thus don't have nearly enough patience for flatties. the last flatty i caught was off the beach a couple of years ago - i never target them. i get the impression that they are shallow though - maybe go look for some kind of structure near Malaga or PV, then work the sandy areas around it with live bait?
What garmin are you using?
this is the newest version of the model that i'm using. i like my garmin, and would buy it again. amzn.to/3jtZ6cI
I just bought the Stryker 5cv but I haven’t installed it
@@cramos6638 that unit is fine. i used to run it. the Echomap units give you the ability to see / add underwater contour maps. are you a fresh or salt guy?
@@cramos6638 long video, but it explains the garmin lineup: ua-cam.com/video/sCzDNBPDDig/v-deo.html
Mainly salt. I want to hit dana point kelp and PV haven't had the time yet. Instead I watch your videos 👍
