Former Hobie owner here. Now I fish off of a 17' Boston Whaler Montauk and I can tell you that those are some nasty conditions that I wouldn't want to be in even with my Montauk. Great content!
thanks for the kind words. happy holidays to you and yours!
Thats why i got the autopilot 120
Mr. Honeybadger VooDoo, is this still working for you? any newer recommendations sir for 2024? Trying to put together something for my husband. thank you.
I think the viking kayak better for the offshore fishing.
Thank you for the informative video. Do you use any app to check for weather conditions?
hi, i use windy.com and windfinder.com. you should always check at least two sites.
What fishing setup would you recommend for kayak? Hi lo or Carolina rig
hi, i think that maybe depends on a few things: 1 - how natural you want your presentation to be and 2 - how many snags do you want to deal with and 3 - how many hooks do you want to use? for Rockfish (that don't really care much about presentation), i'd say Hi-Low. for more natural presentation in shallower water for fish that are more picky, i'd say Carolina.
I am a spearfisher, and I greatly enjoyed your video. What you stated about beach entries or exits is the number one way to lose gear and get hurt. The ocean is undefeated.
agree 100%. and i've been pretty good about trying to relay the dangers of beach launches and more importantly, *landings*. and comments like yours should absolutely be heeded and given weight. it's human nature to put our wins on display for the world to see - rarely do you see footage of losses. that's the problem with UA-cam. thanks for your input.
@@honeybadgervoodoooutdoors7305 Thank you for your integrity. No one talks about their gear losses or injuries.
@@dcro9903 we need more of that on YT and social media. have you seem my video where i chronicle my rescue by the Coast Guard?
Anyone know where Jurassic rock in redondo is?
Would love to join in on a mission with you guys! im based in MDR!
Hey bro I’m local I’d love to go out with you guys I just got my kayak two weeks ago and you guys seem really chill to be out with
the first climb is la mision
What app do you use to check wind and swell conditions?
i think it's a good idea to check at least two sites. a couple might be windy.com and windfinder.com.
thanks for sharing brotha
Hey dude. I’m trying to decide on a transducer. It looks like your unit does not use side scan. Can you explain why you prefer a unit without side scan?
hi, i actually run a Sideview model (73SV). but, i don't use the SV feature much because i'm primarily an ocean guy and spend a lot time in water that's 100'+++ deep. imo, SD is useful when you are scouting shallow water (like most lakes). what's way more important is how much punch a xducer has. if ur xducer doesn't have enough punch, it'll struggle in water that's over say...~150'. and in Redondo, for example, you could easily see water that's 200'-300'. so i'd recommend against getting a model with an underpowered xducer (some of the lower-end Garmin and Lowrance units). i run the GT54UHD xducer.
Thank god you ok. Thank you for posting this video. I also go out kayak fishing out from Marina del rey. Hopefully, one day, I will have the honors to go out fishing with you.
thanks. i post these videos not for views, but to share my experiences and hopefully teach others not to make the same mistakes that i made.
I’m in on your next trip out there
Count me in too, do you have any plan in the next event? Thanks
Can you rent kayaks out of that harbor? I live in an apartment and I wanna go kayak fishing but dont have a kayak.
Or do u have tips? If I do get a kayak, are there places there to store it at the marina? so I dont have to tow it?
@@dunmadun351 not sure about storage, but i know you can rent kayaks at King Harbor. they will be recreational kayaks that are small and not super stable. but in theory, yes - you could fish out of them.
You think its doable? Just have to struggle with the rod and gear situation? Lol. I wanna catch sheephead thats why i wanna try.
@@dunmadun351 i think it would be tough. for Sheephead, you'd have to paddle to the kelp forest off of the Palos Verdes area. that's roughly a 4 mile paddle one-way. i would advise against it.
Enjoyed, liked, and subscribed!!!😊
much appreciated!
How you liking the bigwater?
i'm a fan. given the same perceived effort as my old Hobie yaks, i think i'm going about .25 to .3 mph faster. and the instant reverse is really, really nice for coming to s screeching halt on top of a mark, and especially for filming. the one thing is doesn't do well is glide, as the drive and prop present much more drag in the water than a couple of Hobie fins, but i'll live with it. and with all the new yaks, you sit really high, so you gotta be careful.
Bummed I missed. I was a bit under the weather
camping and launching @ the Central Coast this wknd. if ur interested, shoot me an email.
Malaga Cove is also a great place to catch Mackerel for bait. You can use a Sabiki or just throw a small Hook Up Bait or small jig.
agree. and if you drag a lively Mack around that area, you never know what you might run into. Thresher Sharks hang out there as well.
Good to see you back.. -Vegas
long time, no see Vegas!
Awesome!! Looking forward to going out on the next one! Finally got a Kayak.
just moved to socal a month ago and looking to start fishing again. used to have a hobie when i lived back on the east coast and sold it before the move. love watching your videos to find the spots out here on the west coast to fish. appreciated the detailed videos man, helps a lot. fishing styles are completely different out here on the west coast! ill have to fish from shore or headboat for the time being until i can get a kayak again. cheers!
thx for the kind words! yeah, i'm not going to appeal to a mass audience. most people will want to see fish (big) being caught, and i'm not going to fault the general audience for that. i've always been more of a , "hey, *how* do you do what you do?" kinda guy. but anyways, i'm glad you find these videos helpful. when you get your yak, you can reach out to me at VooDooKayak at gmail!

Had so much fun, Bob and I are thinking of going out again next Saturday! Thanks for the invite and great tips, invaluable info on the water for me. What a blast
nice. this warm weather really helping with the variety: Triggerfish, cuda, bonito, etc.
I'd love to join sometime! I'm usually out at Belmont / Long Beach if it's open water but I've been super interested in trying Redondo.
@oldgold4197 Saturday 6 am launch from king harbor hand launch. Bob and I will be there if anyone else wants to join. The more the merrier 👍🏼
@@rockyg5441 I'll try to make it this saturday!
Nice catch hopefully I'll be able to go with you next time (breal)
How do you find your spots to fish do you use a app like navionics?
for an area that's diversified like Redondo, it's a tricky question to answer. is there a specific species you are targeting?
@@honeybadgervoodoooutdoors7305 yes I try to target more sand bass.i just purchased the avionics app but don't know how useful it will be for me . I'd like to target rock fish also
What a perfect day it was…. It was a great day of fishing and hanging out with friends. The big one that got away is still down there waiting to be caught.
yes, those are the fish that haunt our dreams, lol. for local, i imagine it would have been quite a beast.
Man I wish I was able to be out there with you guys
i was hoping you'd make it out, braddah!
Good to see you posting fishing videos again. How do you like the Big Water?
hey! great to hear from you. liking the BigWater quite a bit. instant-reverse makes it so much more convenient when i'm filming. how are you doing? have you been slaying the Lings?
o what were u guys out there yesterday?
sup K! yeah, we should have linked up.
For those who were on the trip today, it doesn’t get much better than this. The weather was perfect, the chop manageable, and we caught plenty of fish. Awesome day!! Thanks again…
agreed! conditions were perfect, water was moving, fish were on the bite. one of our guys got a sleigh ride courtesy of a monster fish. great company - thx everyone.
I remember when you did that ride. Nicely done man! I’m glad you finally posted the video
my favorite part was getting hailed on while we were in the boat with the kids :)
Man that footage came out great. That was such a fun trip!

Hi I just recently bought an old town sportsman AP 136 kayak and would love to join if you guys ever go on a Sunday. Unfortunately I work on Saturdays. I’ve been mainly just hitting up SD bay but I am excited to try new places and make more kayaking friends! Love your videos!!
thanks for the kind words. i think we'll be launching Saturday, but pls keep in touch.
Would love to join you on the next one. New to kayak fishing. Bought a used pedal drive kayak. Only did basic safety stuff so far like flipping the kayak over and getting back on it.
hey, i watched some of your videos. you mentioned things like "DJ". are we talking music like EDM?
@honeybadgervoodoooutdoors7305 oh. I'm a competitive argentine tango dancer. And I dj tango events. I wouldn't call it real djing like edm. It's more like being an overglorified playlist.
@@bertle615 still awesome!
I’m up for a meetup! I’ll be taking my kiddo so I’ll be using my inflatable with outboard coming out of MDR but I can meet wherever you guys are at. I was planning on going to PV. I’m pretty new to kayak fishing. Your vids are what got me started. Just did a session paddling from MDR to Santa Monica break wall, all for 2 calicos lol. Swells and snags made it hard to fish and I got there a bit late so I couldn’t fish much that day. Overall about a 10 mile paddle or so. So far I only know MDR with the kayak. And getting to know the bay with the inflatable.
hi, and thank you for the inquiry. i'm afraid we have a full crew for this trip, but i'll keep you in mind for our next outing.
Hell yeah bruddah! The fact that you can narrate while hitting the steepest parts is incredible. nice work!
thx man! hoping to see you at either Badwater to Whitney, or the Overlanding trip in September.
You had to do it solo because non of your friends are brave enough! 🤣
nah, i've got some pretty awesome friends :)
@@honeybadgervoodoooutdoors7305 Nothing to do with bravery but everything to do with fitness.
I usually fish Dana point kelp beds do about 6mile 3 out 3mile back inshore.
hey there - do you feel like you can navigate around by yourself in the event that you became detached from the group? for example, if you wanted to peel off early, you could navigate yourself back to the launch point?
@@honeybadgervoodoooutdoors7305 like using waypoints? I haven’t used my waypoints I don’t go off shore seems like you guys going off shore ya not for my lynx 😂
@@freshsaltyfries5078 yes, i'd agree. we'd be 5 miles offshore. i'd be uncomfortable with that in an inflatable, especially if there was a kid involved.
Hope you guys catch a big one be safe out there.
Welcome back I never fished redondo beach sounds like fun I would like to join.
It has been a while. Great video like always.😊
thanks for the kind words, man!
Hey I’ve been doing a lot of pier/shore/ocean fishing this year for the first time after doing lots of fresh water. Went kayak fishing last weekend for the first time and loved it, would be so down to join with my friend!
i gotta be honest with you, Ruben. if you've only been out one time on a kayak, this trip will probably be overwhelming. we'll be paddling a *bunch*. on top of that, there are other considerations like wind/swells/safety, gear, fishing techniques. i'll keep you in mind for the next invite - thx.
@@honeybadgervoodoooutdoors7305 I’m a tri-athlete and can paddle all day literally, it’s easy. And aside from that one kayak fishing trip I’ve been in kayaks, canoes, and boats all my life.
@@RubenVernier hi Ruben, we're going to have to link up on the next one. we've got a full roster for this trip. i need to keep the party size manageable. thanks.
Let's get some MTB content.. lol
i go the same speed downhill on a mountain bike as i do going uphill on a road bike. it would be a 3 hour video, lol.
Would one survive without a pedal drive?
i've seen it done, but those individuals were in pretty good shape. the reality is, it's much more difficult not only to get to spots, but also to *stay* on top of spots w/o a pedal drive of some sort. can you navigate around by yourself in the event that you have to peel off from the party?
I’m a complete Newbie to kayaking. Only gone out once and was more a learning experience by myself. I’d love to try and join you out there but I’m busy 8/3. If you go on Sunday I may join you.
