- A last minute decision to fish the Cabrillo Beach Kelp Beds with Anthony from Black Flag Fishing resulted in the hottest bite of the summer so far! Fish after fish on the Nomad DTX Floating Minnow and a surprise White Sea Bass catch on the Nomad Squidtrex Vibe made this one awesome day out on the water.

Glad I found your channel. I’m 55 and want to start getting into offshore kayak fishing but thought I might be a bit to old to handle it. You are certainly an inspiration. Going to start training hard in the bay and get into better paddling shape.
Hi Paul… thanks for subscribing! I think you’ll find that offshore kayak fishing, besides being fun, is also a great way to stay in shape. Most of the guys I fish with are less than half my age, so putting some extra miles paddling in the harbor gets me ready to go for long days in open ocean. I don’t want to be “that guy” that everyone has to slow down for when we are making 5-mile paddle into the wind back to the beach. So far… that has never happened!

Launched there yesterday and got rolled on the way OUT. Broke my rudder, lost one rod and one tackle box. The first time I’ve EVER done that in 15 years of kayak fishing. It doesn’t take much when you’re trying to paddle a fat-ass Hobie that’s meant to be peddled. Very expensive day on the water and not one cast made. Mad respect to you for launching in the surf all over the place. At the very least you’ll likely be wet from the get-go. At worst you’ll be yard sale-ing it in the shorebreak like I did!
I had a sad incident just like that several years ago at Bolsa Chica State Beach. I was launching my Hobie Revolution 13 in the shorebreak and flipped big time! I broke three Phenix fishing rods, destroyed my iPhone and my custom Lithium Ion battery box went full Chernobyl and got totally fried!🎣😩😩

Hey Dan, you guys had a killer fishing day. I guess I found were all the fish from La Jolla went to, up North. That used to be the way it was every trip to La Jolla, now, it's a ghost town. Even with the squid spawn we just had. I keep waiting for the Tuna to get in a little closer and the weather to improve for the off shore search. See you, out on the water soon. Tight Lines!

Great content, wondering where you launch out of at Cabrillo
You can launch off the beach or, if you want to avoid the surf, you can launch inside the harbor. We always launch on the beach, because the paddle is shorter and the surf is almost always small there. The parking is excellent there and cost only $9 for all day. Cabrillo is definitely a really fun kayak fishing destination.🎣😃

Sorry for the late response. Yes… it’s a slow pitch jigging rod. The SPJ is perfect for working the Nomad Squidtrex Vibe lure.🎣😃

My go to “favorite is the Nomad DTX Floating Minnow 140 in the silver green mackerel color.🎣😃
