I figured it out. My grocery store is one mile away. I walk to the store everyday and buy just what I need to eat every day. No extra food in the house plus two miles of walking.
My similar story is walking 10 to 13 miles round trip to grocery stores with 88 liter backpack. 6 months ago my pack weighed 70 pounds as I bought too much food and difficult to lift pack out of shopping cart. I made it home but buy less food keeping pack weight limit at 60 pounds. Leaving home late at 6:30 pm walking will give 8pm store arrival with store closed. In this case I run 6 miles to store which has benefits to my body. My food shopping on foot started by need to evaluate for comfort hiking shoes, insoles, socks and backpack for hiking Appalachian Trail. Surprising body understanding resulted from food shopping on foot for last 10 years.
Sal is voice of reason! He was on another podcast within last 6-8 months. Sal was talking about struggles with people and their situation. He said he works with people and starts out very slow to establish a habit. The host just kept screaming that people are lazy and irresponsible if they don’t workout 7 days week.
Great information! As a female in my 50's back in the day I was very slim and fit however weighed around 155 and a size 4-6. My doctor always said I weighed more like a man for my height & weight...so I thought something was wrong with me. Turns out my muscle completely drove and increased my metabolism and I never made that connection until now. Also I went thru a 3 year period of shorter work outs (30mins) thinking I'd get out of shape, in fact I was more fit than ever..had great muscle and now know that I wasn't placing so much stress on my body so I responded much better. So workout smarter not harder! Thank you
I figured out smarter not harder the hard way. I would exercise really hard and enthusiastically, then the next day I could barely move. It took almost a week to recover. Then I thought, well that did me no good if I can’t exercise for days. So I decide to start very slowly by doing 5 repetitions day 1 and increase 3 repetitions every other day. Doing this every single day. I was amazed how fast my body responded and got stronger.. That didn’t feel difficult at all. I am so excited interview just confirmed and reaffirms what stumbled across. In summary, consistency is key. Intensity will come later.

We have to make the food companies money, then the medical establishment money. I watched as my Uncle who died from type two diabetes complications, be escorted from one medical dept to the next. Dialysis, to amputations, to physical therapy, to prosthetics, then to care homes, to ICU. He never had a weight issue.
Only you are in control of what you put in your mouth. Stop the sugars, processed crap and seed oils. Low carb. More healthy fats are essential. Watch the fat disappear even without exercise. Disease and health issues disappear too.
My husband is one of the rare ones. He has been lifting weights since he was 19. He is now 59. He could never get his six pack back since early twenties. Up until I taught him how to intermittent fast. That six pack is loud and proud again!

I'm sure you know how encouraging this is. I'm 64 and in great shape! However, return to strength training is my missing element. People think I'm in my 40s. The strength training was a big deal for me in my 40s; bro-science was my bag. But at 56, I lost my husband of 35 years and gained 40 lbs. I fasted, walked, and ate well to lose 56 lbs. I'm so happy I still have my kettlebells! I learned a lot of exercises and proper form back then. For now, I'm just picking those things up and relearning the exercises. It's great! At this point, it's easy and fun to do 30 minutes!
People can go to a physical therapist (who now have to be PhDs) to get a personalized workout and even have insurance pay for it if they have specific body aches. Sometimes the “trainers” at health clubs don’t have a very deep understanding of what is good or even safe for people, especially older folks. This was a good interview overall.
I agree. I was a very well educated personal trainer and I saw that constantly and still do. Nowadays the gyms r open 24/7 no attendant no orientation. Ppl just come in do cardio n go from machine to machine, throwing or hoisting wt around. They Don't know what they r doing. Sad to watch especially for the elderly. Better to find a qualified trainer and at least pay for a few sessions to get started with some basic understanding.

True. If I eat something high in sugar I feel like I’m starving the next day. I know if I just ride it out the intense hunger leaves and I’m back to normal. But if you keep eating like that you won’t be able to stop.
I've been on keto and removed bad oil, pasta, sugar, and simple carbs. IF works, too. The last week I've eaten 2-3 slices of DKB and some sourdough rolls. I haven't gained weigh but I lift weight 4x per week.

I feel half my age and can keep up with girls in their early 20s, some I can run circles around. If you keep consistent and it becomes part of your lifestyle, the positives are limitless.
Anerobic exercise is key for people with Hashimoto's. This is good advice for MS patients too. Little by little and day by day, walk and do some strength work. Pay attention to what you are doing if you have osteoporosis or osteopenia. Wall exercises are great for those who need to do bone work. And just start. There are good sources here on youtube from physical therapists.
Love his practicality and not just spewing dogma like every other fitness person on the internet saying you have to track everything you eat and be so regimented and eat eh same thing every day. That's not real life unless you're a pro bodybuilder prepping for a show. No one is going to be tracking every day of their life, we have enough worries and stress in our life. We don't want to make eating a chore too. Yea. We won't be shredded to the bone, but who cares? We can still look good and be healthy.

I love the learning to sit and stand from a chair in a controlled fashion. As an RN for 40 years, I noticed that the obese, the frail little elderly lady, and those with an injury, would back up and abandon their bodies to a chair, or the bed. They would fall into the location without a parachute. Caused me to hold my breath every time. I would coach every time after that. Falls never land well.

You’re saying everything I’ve said to myself! I’m 53…I was a runner….got RA….put in 100lbs. Today I’m 110 lbs less and had to change my relationship with myself, food, and fitness…..I’ve been strength training for 3 years….it was a learning process. I needed something to help with my PTSD which triggers my RA…..weights…..wow…..I definitely didn’t work hard compared to when I was running. I look strong and feel strong! 💪🏽❤️🇨🇦

Your suggestion about breaking up one's exercise routine is a game-chamger for me! I used to kind of dread my 30 minute treadmill walk and skip sometimes. I broke it into 3 10-minute sessions moning, noon, and night. Bam! I no longer dread it and its over before I know it. Thank you! ❤
Absolutely love this guy! I'm 61 and have been resistance training since I was 32. I stopped for a few years because my job was very physical and the gym on top of it was too much for my body. Started it again about a year ago. I injured a knee in pickleball last year and was shocked at how quickly I lost leg muscle trying to get the knee healthy again. I do not want to be a statistic so I will be weight training for the remainder of my years!
I normally can’t stand super long videos like this one. Particularly ones that have a clickbait of some sort such as this one thing that will cure all etc etc. I don’t have time to sit through it all just to wait for the one thing that I want to hear. Absolutely hate that. But this video I definitely have been enjoying. I watched some of it while I ate and then listened to it while cleaning up. Lots of great information. Just lost 13 lbs on intermittent fasting last 4 weeks only gone to 40 hours x1 21hours x2, 18 hours x 5/6 days I enjoy the daily plan of the fast and thankful can do coffee with whole milk ; so far no hunger yet ! Gave up my smoothies though ! I live in Thailand so real food is easy to get! Now I will add strength training as only been bicycling along my beach road ! Thank you.

I feel energized to up my strength game NOW! I walk a lot… (at least 5 miles a day).. but my strength training has been spotty at best. I love it after I’m done-/it’s just getting it in! Those days somehow always get interrupted. I will do the 15 minute a day -a challenge to do this daily like my walks! So grateful for this help! At 77, I have no weight issues (5’4” and 118lbs).. but I want to be stronger. I eat a protein forward diet with no ultra processed food, sugar or alcohol. I feel this podcast was meant for me today! I'll simplify it Focus on strength training with progressive overload and time under tension Lower calories but only by cutting out the crap foods eat more protein and whole foods And keep cardio to a minimum. Just take a 20-30 min walk a day at a moderate pace.
Great stuff here I’ve been OTR for 10 years & started doing Kettlebells & Free Weights over a period of 90 days I lost over 75 pounds lost I went from a 42 inch waist back to a 34 inch waist. Just but working out 10-15 a days with 150 pounds. I went to a gym recently & put up 225 17 times. I am still shocked I could.
Mat Pilates is my preferred method of weight training, the only thing I’ve stuck with for several years now. But I also jump on a rebounder almost every hour while watching tv😀, just for 3-10 minutes, sometimes 20
I love this interview I’ve been bodybuilding for over 30 years I turned IFBB Pro in 2001 and definitely learned a lot all throughout the 30+ years. So I don’t know if it’s just experience or perhaps age but everything that he said in this interview is pretty much how I think and approach Training and nutrition and the same mindset that I use for guiding my clients. My workouts and training style never look like a massacre and people are usually surprised to find out that what I do is more effective than looking like just some crazy beast mode style training I’m very deliberate and purposeful and mindful in the training approach that I do. And everyone is different so I treat them all accordingly as an individual. I don’t just train I consider myself a coach not just in the gym but outside the gym it’s definitely a craft.
Great video. Great info. But I can barely afford a gym membership, much less a coach/trainer and psychologist. I work two jobs, and donate plasma just to keep my head above water. I barely have time to train much less sit on a couch and talk to somebody about my feelings and psyche. I can and will do the best with what I have control over.
I'm super busy too. Going to try to get quality sleep, eat whole foods, and sneak in whole body movements like squats, pushups, stretching, and stairs at work every day.
I am definitely looking forward to trying this for my overall health, my weight loss is my first priority but recently I have had to start taking blood pressure meds, not happy at all. I used to work out for 3 hours a day for 5 or 6 days a week, I did get stronger and some weight loss, but for the amount of work I was putting in, I was discouraged and just quit after about nine months .
Hi Jason, try fasting intermittently and or 2 days a week. Eat raw garlic in a smoothie every day, watch salt intake, cut out all sugar and follow the exercise regime that Sal recommends, and you will soon be able to cut out the antihypertensives. If you fast for 1 day or up to 3 days at a time, your BP will fall. Plenty of good Whole Foods and veggies… good luck! Alex in Norway.

If you are diabetic, best taken after a protein savory breakfast, otherwise monitor for blood glucose spikes and speak to your doctor if necessary. The garlic should lower BP by 4-7 mm Hg. All best.
Ultra processed "food" is designed to make you want more and more by getting to the bliss point. Fat and protein for me is the way to go b/c I reach satiety and can going longer w/o eating again. So, I am eating less calories w/o counting down about 65 pounds.

I gave up diets a couple of years ago! I eat whole foods although l do avoid grains. No seed oils. I don’t count calories the only thing l track is my protein intake. I have lost 170lbs and reversed type 2 insulin dependent diabetes! Been through a lot of trauma a a bereavement this year and been suffering from depression. I’m just back now started lifting again! I take various supplements just started taking creatine again and l have to say for me l can definitely notice that it has a positive effect on my mental health! I am sure it helps with my depression! X 😊I’m 48 from uk 🇬🇧

been hearing a lot about grip strength but I have bone on bone in my wrists so it hurts too much. I go to a gym twice a week to build muscle but have to alter many exercises because of wrist pain.

Sometimes people just have to much information upstairs and they have trouble getting that info out in a clean orderly fashion. The guest should have had an outline so he kept the convo moving forward.
The information given ,is common. Exercise,eat healthy,w low stress. Even uneducated Farmers in the amazon and Africa now "using pesticides", which is necessary to feed a larger population now, but it has terrible health consequences later !! Be healthy , good luck.
Good advise. Getting protein equal to your ideal weight is almost impossible, especially in cultures which don’t eat so much meat. What’s the advise for those of us who can’t eat so much meat?
My favorite BodyTech flavor is their Fruity Cereal, it's basically Fruity Pebbles. The only issue I came across with that flavor is when I add strawberries they seems to kill the Fruity Pebbles flavor. Blueberries and bananas are what I prefer, they enhance the flavor.
I love how they promote all these success stories while never mentioning all the ppl struggling on it. Ppl like me who've now developed freaking gout and in massive joint pain from it. Trust me, it's a fad that WON'T last given. im seeing a LOT of others who are not doing so well on it.

Thank you so much for this podcast. As a woman encroaching middle age, I'm glad I started weightlifting at 18. Women, we NEED to lift weights. Bone density loss is no joke. I feel half my age and can keep up with girls in their early 20s, some I can run circles around. If you keep consistent and it becomes part of your lifestyle, the positives are limitless.
Anerobic exercise is key for people with Hashimoto's. This is good advice for MS patients too. Little by little and day by day, walk and do some strength work. Pay attention to what you are doing if you have osteoporosis or osteopenia. Wall exercises are great for those who need to do bone work. And just start. There are good sources here on youtube from physical therapists.

Love his practicality and not just spewing dogma like every other fitness person on the internet saying you have to track everything you eat and be so regimented and eat eh same thing every day. That's not real life unless you're a pro bodybuilder prepping for a show. No one is going to be tracking every day of their life, we have enough worries and stress in our life. We don't want to make eating a chore too. Yea. We won't be shredded to the bone, but who cares? We can still look good and be healthy.
Have you seen him since he has incorporated vegetables? He looks like he has aged 10 years but then again people will say it’s because he lives in South America and surf all day.

I love the learning to sit and stand from a chair in a controlled fashion. As an RN for 40 years, I noticed that the obese, the frail little elderly lady, and those with an injury, would back up and abandon their bodies to a chair, or the bed. They would fall into the location without a parachute. Caused me to hold my breath every time. I would coach every time after that. Falls never land well.

You’re saying everything I’ve said to myself! I’m 53…I was a runner….got RA….put in 100lbs. Today I’m 110 lbs less and had to change my relationship with myself, food, and fitness…..I’ve been strength training for 3 years….it was a learning process. I needed something to help with my PTSD which triggers my RA…..weights…..wow…..I definitely didn’t work hard compared to when I was running. I look strong and feel strong! 💪🏽❤️🇨🇦

Your suggestion about breaking up one's exercise routine is a game-chamger for me! I used to kind of dread my 30 minute treadmill walk and skip sometimes. I broke it into 3 10-minute sessions moning, noon, and night. Bam! I no longer dread it and its over before I know it. Thank you! ❤

Absolutely love this guy! I'm 61 and have been resistance training since I was 32. I stopped for a few years because my job was very physical and the gym on top of it was too much for my body. Started it again about a year ago. I injured a knee in pickleball last year and was shocked at how quickly I lost leg muscle trying to get the knee healthy again. I do not want to be a statistic so I will be weight training for the remainder of my years!
I normally can’t stand super long videos like this one. Particularly ones that have a clickbait of some sort such as this one thing that will cure all etc etc. I don’t have time to sit through it all just to wait for the one thing that I want to hear. Absolutely hate that. But this video I definitely have been enjoying. I watched some of it while I ate and then listened to it while cleaning up. Lots of great information. Got a little over an hour into it. Will definitely watch the rest at a later time.

So engaging ! Thank you. Just lost 13 lbs on intermittent fasting last 4 weeks only gone to 40 hours x1 21hours x2, 18 hours x 5/6 days I enjoy the daily plan of the fast and thankful can do coffee with whole milk ; so far no hunger yet !
Gave up my smoothies though ! I live in Thailand so real food is easy to get!
Now I will add strength training as only been bicycling along my beach road !

Finally!!!!!! it’s not calories in calories out. So many people think they know what they’re talking about but don’t.
What is it then?
Well ... yes and no. You need weight lifting... but you can't work out for 30 minutes a day, sit at a computer all day and eat 6000 calories.
Mr Di Stefano is so well spoken and such an inspiring individual. It was great hearing a well thought out plan for a more senior age group to strengthen the body without the overwhelming information and feeling like a failure before you start! I feel energized to up my strength game NOW! I walk a lot… (at least 5 miles a day).. but my strength training has been spotty at best. I love it after I’m done-/it’s just getting it in! Those days somehow always get interrupted. I will do the 15 minute a day -a challenge to do this daily like my walks! So grateful for this help! At 77,
I have no weight issues (5’4” and 118lbs).. but I want to be stronger. I eat a protein forward diet with no ultra processed food, sugar or alcohol.

Focus on strength training with progressive overload and time under tension
Lower calories but only by cutting out the crap foods eat more protein and whole foods
And keep cardio to a minimum. Just take a 20-30 min walk a day at a moderate pace.

Great stuff here I’ve been OTR for 10 years & started doing Kettlebells & Free Weights over a period of 90 days I lost over 75 pounds lost I went from a 42 inch waist back to a 34 inch waist. Just but working out 10-15 a days with 150 pounds. I went to a gym recently & put up 225 17 times. I am still shocked I could.

Mat Pilates is my preferred method of weight training, the only thing I’ve stuck with for several years now. But I also jump on a rebounder almost every hour while watching tv😀, just for 3-10 minutes, sometimes 20
Is Pilates considered strength building/training?

I love this interview I’ve been bodybuilding for over 30 years I turned IFBB Pro in 2001 and definitely learned a lot all throughout the 30+ years. So I don’t know if it’s just experience or perhaps age but everything that he said in this interview is pretty much how I think and approach Training and nutrition and the same mindset that I use for guiding my clients. My workouts and training style never look like a massacre and people are usually surprised to find out that what I do is more effective than looking like just some crazy beast mode style training I’m very deliberate and purposeful and mindful in the training approach that I do. And everyone is different so I treat them all accordingly as an individual. I don’t just train I consider myself a coach not just in the gym but outside the gym it’s definitely a craft.
Great video. Great info. But I can barely afford a gym membership, much less a coach/trainer and psychologist. I work two jobs, and donate plasma just to keep my head above water. I barely have time to train much less sit on a couch and talk to somebody about my feelings and psyche. I can and will do the best with what I have control over.
I'm super busy too. Going to try to get quality sleep, eat whole foods, and sneak in whole body movements like squats, pushups, stretching, and stairs at work every day.

I am definitely looking forward to trying this for my overall health, my weight loss is my first priority but recently I have had to start taking blood pressure meds, not happy at all. I used to work out for 3 hours a day for 5 or 6 days a week, I did get stronger and some weight loss, but for the amount of work I was putting in, I was discouraged and just quit after about nine months .
Hi Jason, try fasting intermittently and or 2 days a week. Eat raw garlic in a smoothie every day, watch salt intake, cut out all sugar and follow the exercise regime that Sal recommends, and you will soon be able to cut out the antihypertensives. If you fast for 1 day or up to 3 days at a time, your BP will fall. Plenty of good Whole Foods and veggies… good luck! Alex in Norway.

@@joanneclark8256 half apple,half banana, 1-2 cloves garlic, tablespoon best olive oil, capful of apple cider vinegar , half lemon juice, dash of black pepper and cayenne pepper, 10 dashes cumin, high speed smoothie, let stand for 10 mins, drink as a shot before breakfast, follow up with a pint of tepid water. If you are diabetic, best taken after a protein savory breakfast, otherwise monitor for blood glucose spikes and speak to your doctor if necessary. The garlic should lower BP by 4-7 mm Hg. All best.
Ultra processed "food" is designed to make you want more and more by getting to the bliss point. Fat and protein for me is the way to go b/c I reach satiety and can going longer w/o eating again. So, I am eating less calories w/o counting down about 65 pounds.

I’m 64 yo female last 6 months every 3/4 days strength training with weights followed up with rebounding.
Back 90s was so much cardio then pump classes at gym introduced. Weights were back then target males & aerobic was for women.
I gave up diets a couple of years ago! I eat whole foods although l do avoid grains. No seed oils. I don’t count calories the only thing l track is my protein intake. I have lost 170lbs and reversed type 2 insulin dependent diabetes! Been through a lot of trauma a a bereavement this year and been suffering from depression. I’m just back now started lifting again! I take various supplements just started taking creatine again and l have to say for me l can definitely notice that it has a positive effect on my mental health! I am sure it helps with my depression! X 😊I’m 48 from uk 🇬🇧
I’ve now found and fallen in love with weight training at age 34. I really want to find a way to convince my parents to start training with a trainer to help them maintain muscle as they age.

Also my Mom recently started eating like solely whole foods and paying a hyper attention to the amount of protein that she gets, and she weighs a few pounds less than me now!!

been hearing a lot about grip strength but I have bone on bone in my wrists so it hurts too much. I go to a gym twice a week to build muscle but have to alter many exercises because of wrist pain.

Good advise. Getting protein equal to your ideal weight is almost impossible, especially in cultures which don’t eat so much meat. What’s the advise for those of us who can’t eat so much meat?
My favorite BodyTech flavor is their Fruity Cereal, it's basically Fruity Pebbles. The only issue I came across with that flavor is when I add strawberries they seems to kill the Fruity Pebbles flavor. Blueberries and bananas are what I prefer, they enhance the flavor.
