I bought this nail gun as we were planning to renew all the fencing in our back garden. As this involved 19 double slatted fence panels, 10 of which needed to be cut down in size, we knew there would be a need for a great ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxHQsUrwNr5GQrnx9V4xDdUr56qxwuiBHt deal of re-stapling the wooden slats to the wooden framework. Each alteration required the re-stapling of 62 wooden slats with double staples. Prior to starting the work we ordered sufficient additional staples as per the instructions with the gun.The gun performed fantastically throughout the entire project with no jams of misfires. The adjustable power was excellent allowing the staples to be fired into the 8mm slats to the correct depth. For the price paid this was a bargain and it proved itself to be so reliable and versatile making an arduous task much quicker and professional. I cannot recommend this product highly enough and it will be used on many other projects in the future.

Dude 1st off thank you for your service. I just have to say as diy guy and a skilled plumber and hvac technician thank you for your easy to understand explanation on the roofing tips. I tried roofing as a career when I was 13 and only lasted about 1.5 years. I am by no means a roofer and thank you for helping me out on all the things I should already know....thanks bro

My wife and I got this house 3 yrs now and i notice the porch has a leak, going through clip on how to r&r shingle landed on your channel. Good job teaching the next generation of roofing.

When I built my house I was able to participate in putting the roof on and realized how much the old man had taught me without me knowing it. Now I am putting the roof on my own shed I have built, and was here to refresh myself on the details. Brought a smile to my face and a lot of memories. Thank you for all of the great videos.
That is one thing you REALLY have to watch roofing, especially when you are working with your back to the edge on the first courses where you work uphill. More people are hurt and killed roofing than are hurt and killed as cops. And as a DIY roofer that's done a few, I wouldn't even think about doing a very high pitched roof, myself.

The second you let that youngster lay that shingle with the blown through holes.. you failed as a teacher. You just taught him that that’s okay to do, and it’s not. I’m not knocking this down, but don’t teach someone bad habits, or how to slough when no one’s looking. I was taught to do everything correctly the first time, so that there never had to be a second time. After slinging shingles for 28 years.. I still made the occasional mistake, but when I stepped off the ladder, it was done correctly. A good suggestion for those starting out, or teaching someone how to roof.. start them out with pounding nails by hand. When they’re comfortable with those movements, and they become ingrained, you’ll be surprised with the fluidity, and productivity of an air gun in anyone’s hand. The students are only as good as the teacher..
Yeah and who cuts shingles on the finished roof? That's when you see another company repairing a roof like this because it failed due to cuts and gashes made in the finished roof by cutting shingles on it. Not even a roofer myself in just an ameture so I have nothing to gain from giving a neg review but I think there's some bad habits being taught here. I read and was told by buddies who roof that you don't do this particular habit. Pre cut them on the ground then bring them up. The stair step doesn't change weather it's on the ground or 14 feet up. You can already tell that underlayment is being compromised by razor blades.
I started Roofing when I was 16 years old and I did it all the way up until I was 31 years old and I must say to train a greenhorn that knows nothing about Roofing is very very stressful so I feel your pain brother but good work on training in
4 generation contractor here doing everything but roofing fulltime, just wanted to say I love your videos, and glad you Dont make them roofing for dummies 🤦🏾♂️
Honestly seems like a good instructor I have no doubt couple more roofs Brad is on point...... I'm watching this not as a roofer but as somebody who grew up in construction doing concrete. I've done a little Roofing but the instructor is definitely on point.
Though water does indeed run down hill, as long as there is no wind, a hole through many layers of shingles will leak, no matter how many layers are underneath. You should always cover over a nail hole with something, even if there is another layer of shingle going over it. Sometimes the edge doesn't always seal and sometimes a new roofer might not notice a removed nail and he might allow a joint to be there.
I've worked in construction. It's tough being the apprentice. You really have to put yourself forward and figure out a lot on your own (wish there was UA-cam back then). Not that a boss might not help you out. (You're giving everyone a lot of help in this video!) It just takes more than that. They can't hand it to you. I realize now there's just not the time to lead everyone by the hand. You work hard on it, and others will see that.... I was picking up a little work the first time on a framing crew in Texas. The boss came over to me when I was nailing on a nail. He said " You ARE a woodpecker, ain't you?" My friend had warned him I was new.
I've put on about 4 roofs in my life, on three houses and one 1800 sq ft shop. They all worked fine (water runs downhill IS the mantra), but watching this, I see there were about 50 things I could have done to make the job a lot easier and faster. NOT cutting the overhang, but the other side of the shingle for the stair step is brilliant...and a lot safer than hanging over or near the edge to cut. You also obviously get a better looking end, since they are the factory cut, and I wouldn't have punched drip strip like I did in two places (ARRRG!). I've never seen a valley done that way, with the parallel shingle run up the snap line, either, but it makes a HUMONGOUS amount of sense...BOTH speed AND scrap wise. I would just have to make sure it meets code in my area. I'm sixty and change now and the roof is just about due (next 5 yrs or so, anyway), and I figure this next one should last pretty much the rest of my life...and if it doesn't, I sure as hell won't be putting on the next one!
Man. You are a great boss. I'd love to work for you. And you teach people instead of getting mad they don't know how to do something. Glad I found your. Channel thanks for all the tips and help with roofing you are an A+ guy n boss. Keep up the good work n thanks for serving our country
Hi All.. Poor Brad, he isnt to teach savvy.. I got a kick out of him.. lol..lol.. lol Mr. Boss Man, It was refreshing to see how patient you were with your guys.. You didnt just tell them what they were doing wrong, you were explaining in depth, and even physically showing them how do it correctly.. (The work force needs more like you) The biggest reward you'll be giving them will come when the job is complete.. They'll stand on the ground looking up at their Work, Saying,,, "I DID THAT!! You're not only giving them a Job, You're teaching them a Craft/Trade, that they can be proud of.. (from the start too the end, not many people get to see their work from that perspective.. I hope they stick with it, and with you.. Sorry for the Long Comment.. That was some beautiful work.. I hope whoever's we hire to do our roof will be a cool person like you.. Thanks for the video.. Keep up the Amazing Work.. and keep the videos coming, I may do my roof on my own, but only carry 1/2 a pack of shingles up the ladder.. hahahah hahaha
Pro tip instead of overhanging the shingle and cutting it with a hook blade . Try this turn the shingle to the back side and place it to the edge of the dripedge and cut the shingle on the roof but from the backside using a straight blade, pick it back up and fold it to finish the cut. Now when you put it back in place the cut will be towards the edge and you wont have to cut leaning over the edge. I say straight blade because it makes straight cuts easier quicker and saves blades. I do hope you try this atleast 1 time coming from one veteran roofer to another much respect 👍👍
I actually have tried that! and It was a good opportunity to do the research on whats more efficient also coz I was racing a guy I beat all the time but I didn't have a hook blade, so I had to cut my starter rake with a straight blade (shingle backwards) and do the end rake like you said, he beat me by a minute n a half n I fully blame not having the hook blade. up to you though, if that's your preference have at it man!!
There are starter marks at 6” 12”18”and 24” for the overhang starting the runs then finish the other end with those starter cuts. All shingles are marked. I like your starts . Works really well. 😄
When you run your shingles along the edge of the roof I always try to keep the factory side of the shingle butting to the next shingle. I’m not good at making straight cuts so I like to always cut my shingle off the edge of the roof so I can use the drip edge as my guide while I cut. Then I use the scraps I had on one end and use them on the other end
I'm surprised someone doesn't make a shingle cutter similar to a sliding tile cutter, seems like it might be a worthwhile device. It seems like even just a square with a fat side, like some you see, speed square type, would solve the crooked cut problem.
John Sikes I think part of it is it would maybe be difficult to use on the roof. Also it would possibly take more time to to cut a shingle for an experienced roofer as opposed to them just cutting it with a knife. Personally cutting shingles is one of the most annoying aspects of roofing to me, especially in colder weather. Anything that could be done to make the cutting process less difficult and more efficient would be awesome. Maybe some sort of 12v battery powered mini dremel like tool would be possible
It was hard for me too. When I started you had to prove you could hand nail with speed and accuracy before they’d let you get a hold of a gun. I really loved roofing, I still do so as a young 18-year-old, I would bust my butt to impress the older guys and learn the trade. It had paid off
I worked for siding company and it was just me and him and I just started as a greenie I knew nothing and he would be so passive aggressive with me he wouldn't even call me by my name it would dude and man and he would rush threw teaching stuff so I would be hassy on it I eventually quit because I couldn't work for him anymore so every time you say the new guys name in a louder tone I would start to get anxious then I see take time and actually show him I just wished I worked for you instead keep up the great work Ps he was horrible boss buy he does great work.
Man you'd think he s an octopus with as many things as he was trying to do and do it right...lol. I would like to say for people who think this stuff is easy to try a diy roof...omg that roofing is so frustrating when your being taught for the first time, I was terrible lol but I learned in san Antonio heat. Hats off to you roofers..all the respect. And thank you to my cousin for being patient with me.

bet the ones that speak spanish will finish this alot faster
They’re a bunch a numbnuts that’s why lol boycub couldn’t even cut a shingle and he was “killing” it 😅
Well this is the midwest
You should always start in the valley. Why cut 2 sides of the roof.
Glad you see it that way! Some people think I'm the exact opposite lol guess they don't have fun at work
I appreciate the way you train your guys. They may not realize it now but that's worth so much in the long run..great channel brother
That had me laughing when you caught boycub about to put the shingle on upside down!!!!!
You obviously are not cutting shingles’s in cold weather
I don’t know dick about roofing but this guy is a real leader, way to encourage while teaching men.
God damnit that was funny when he filmed his own face when you told him “here, film me”. Dude is hilarious 😂.
I just got a roofing job and I’m 13 and my boss told me I have to do the capping tmr so I’m trying to figure out how to do it to impress him 🚫🧢😂😂
Don't impress with bs and speed. Just do a perfect job. I don't care how long it takes you. I'll pay you per perfectly done shingle.
After spend 8 hours spinning wrenches i can't believe i watched you work for another half hour.
There are starter marks at 6” 12”18”and 24” for the overhang starting the runs then finish the other end with those starter cuts. All shingles are marked. I like your starts . Works really well. 😄
I wish more people were willing to take the time to teach and train others properly. Good shit
I'm watching this before I start on monday to be ahead of the game. Gotta love UA-cam.
I hope you're boss isn't like this dude cause he wack lol
Teaching these boys on their nickel. Wish their were more guys hungry for this type on knowledge.
Going from cedar to Asphalt I did Cedar roofing for 4 years now I'm doing Asphalt for the first time this year. I'm now a Rookie again.
Nice that u take the time to teach them man
It was hard for me too. When I started you had to prove you could hand nail with speed and accuracy before they’d let you get a hold of a gun.
I really loved roofing, I still do so as a young 18-year-old, I would bust my butt to impress the older guys and learn the trade.
It had paid off
Very informative and highly hilarious! I would love to work for this guy!
Much respect for you dealing with your new crew
I worked for siding company and it was just me and him and I just started as a greenie I knew nothing and he would be so passive aggressive with me he wouldn't even call me by my name it would dude and man and he would rush threw teaching stuff so I would be hassy on it I eventually quit because I couldn't work for him anymore so every time you say the new guys name in a louder tone I would start to get anxious then I see take time and actually show him I just wished I worked for you instead keep up the great work
Ps he was horrible boss buy he does great work.
I'm getting geared up to shingle my 30 square hip roof. I'm learning from all your video's, thanks for making them! Only thing that intimidates me is flashing around my stone chimney. Were should I buy a bostitch nailer? Online have best deals?
Lowes is the place to go for nailers my man.
This rookie makes me nervous. You need to manage the loose shingles and hose around you. Especially that hose. Don’t fall bud!
His boss, is a great mentor. Overall his team is excited to learn and take direction. Keep the energy up boys. Great work!
Giver banger!
Thanks. See boycub in more recent videos. Rip boycub specifically
Starting my first roofing job tomorrow this really helped.
I would be Superman on this crew lol no hate tho everybody's learning
you guys are great to watch. …
can you tell me what color and style if owens corning shingles you used that day?
thanks.
Once they all learn and get good at it you'll have a good crew. I have a feeling that roofing is just one of the trades you dabble. I am the same way, I love teaching my guys the right way, it sounds like you learned like I did, you have to make mistakes to learn the right way. I do have a limit on how many to.es in willing to teach somebody the same thing... And I have the do it nice or do it twice motto
This is how EVERY boss should be !! Firm, straight forward and teach them ! Plus guys are making money while learning new things ! Freaking amazing !! Only had boss like that once....my father... after that all were pricks :/ and i had to learn myself....
Thanks for the compliment bud!I appreciate that
@@NWIVeteranConstruction I wish world would have more ppl like you ! I try teach all new guys in my field whatever i know, all tricks etc so they can address things easier and faster. Plus you never stop learning to be honest :)
Three rookies on one little roof... where is your journey man... boy cub is kinda cute, he wont last long.
I'm on vacation watching others work. Thanks!
Man, I hope 1 day I can be 1/4 the awesome boss you are.
Training 3 guys at once I’m sure ain’t easy. You got a lot of patience. Everyone should respect that. Also has anyone told you that you look like baker mayfield ? Lmao
He sure does make roofing look complicated. Love to see him try 3-tabs.
Its funny but I have only watched a few videos of yours and already knew what you showed Brad 😄
You should teach them to leave their belts on all day it helps them get fast woth their hands and reduces time spent looking for things you just put down randomly. Plus you can hold tons of coils in there
maybe just ordinary roofers. I just do more than shingle I guess. The difference between a roofer and shingler are different.
Im going to apply to be a roofing helper on Feb 4th. I wanted to get an idea of what i could possibly expect, so i appreciate your videos immensely. Itll be my first job in construction so i doubt ill even get accepted, but i figure it wouldnt hurt to go in with some knowledge. Got a sub from me!!
I don't want someone smoke on the job, period.
Lol his voice sounds like he's 50 with a beer belly but looking at him 👍👍👍👍 thanks for teaching me how to do it#diymom
Ever use a shingle shear for kits? Helps keep clean cuts, and shingles match up perfect.
I use a max superroofer coil nailer, in my opinion its the best nail gun you can get, I highly recommend it
I hope my man shingles better then he films😂 my man buttercup is stirring the gravy kid!!!!!!
Lol you know this by now man
I love how every instructional video is practically a flat roof.
Thanks for this. Good to see quality mentorship 👍
Any time!
Should always make them wear their tools too. What happens when a nail don't go on all the way or an h clip is up ? Do they run across the roof to get a hatchet ?. And don't you use knee pads ? So much better. Haha funny video. Life of the new guys
that valley looks sexy!! thx for showing us, that is now my new way..
Brad has earned a new name....Goddamn Brad! lol
Yo zack of all trades. Think thats great you teaching the younger generation how we do. But from one boss to another, why not cut those those shingles up the edge as you go? Then you able to keep it alot straighter.
Gunz -N- Hozez Roofing Newcastle Indiana
brad film me so he fims himself 😂😂 that was great
hilarious LOL
@@NWIVeteranConstruction p.s picked up a new bostitch for 164$ free shipping on Amazon i like the Hitachi too but for about 100$ cheaper cant go wrong
Nice move! I'll keep that in mind
Trying to take up shingling myself..great tips & tricks!!!
That was a good video bro. Definitely showed many of the beginner mistakes. Very helpful 👍
Shingle roofing is so fun. I wish I could work there.
We would usually snap lines every 4 or 8 rows for new guys. That way they can't get too far off in a short span
Im watching this sitting in a recliner at almost midnight and when he goes to the edge carefree like, my nerves tense up and i get the feeling like im gunna fall off a roof that im not even on!!!!😜
Always enjoy watching all your vids bud. Good stuff bro
Hahahaha. I don't want Brad to do my roof LMFAO
I am locking for a job I graduate this year I am OSHA certified and I have a good work ethic
