  • Roof Leak - How to find and fix a Roof Leak. This roof leak was do to wind damage the owner said. The roof overall was in good shape. It just had a couple missing shingles. The insurance adjuster that came out put a very small piece of tarp over the two missing shingles, but the tarp was not tucked under the shingles allowing rain under it.
The rain water was coming in under it and down into the hole in the paper then into the attic.
I installed a small piece of synthetic paper and gave him a estimate for repair.
Shingle repair uncut from start to finish. This repair was a couple weeks later.

I saved this video ages ago just in case. Just in case arrived. I rewatched this video, made a list, went to the building supply store and fixed my roof. I’m female, approaching retirement age, lifelong desk job - and I repaired my own roof for $108. (I already had the shingles.) I am eternally grateful.

I run service for a roofing company. Mostly commercial flat roofs but I get shingle repair regularly. I also can cosign this work. Personally I prefer rp400 to seal the shingles as it's an asphalt product. Also, I strongly recommend the pac tools roof snake instead of a flatbar.

It's nice to see that not all 10+ year old roofs automatically need full replacement if there is damage anywhere. I appreciated seeing the full process of taking out the old shingle, replacing boards as needed, putting in ice/water, new shingles, and caulking.

Yeah they don't need to but for companies to make their money and to pay for their licenses you absolutely have to pay for a new roof because their minimum amount that they can work for is 3 to 5 Grand here's another Secret some companies higher independent skilled installers I need my label themselves as construction companies what sound more like insurance companies to me when you talk to them the guys they hire are sub contractors

Here's a tip he doesn't seem to know. Put your Sawzall blades in upside down. It makes it so the blade is much closer to the plain of the outside edge of the tool making plunge cuts much easier.

I tried my best to tackle my own roof, had a lot of mistakes that made me have to have it redone. I learned a lot from my mistakes, and learning even more by watching these videos. Hiring your company was the best choice I'd made! Could maybe request a how to of the proper ways to start your shingles, 3 tab, and architecture to where you don't run into rain line (key line?) problems as you advance up the roof?

I had a small wet spot on the ceiling half foot circle and a very small spot in same line about 3 feet away, I marked the area and went up to the roof checked everything from 3 feet to both sides and 3 feet above the approximate water damage spots checked every each shingle and applied roof cement line under each shingle that was lifting easily cement on the visible nails . From looking over the whole area I didn't see any visible signs where I could say that is the issue . 3 days later ,day before yesterday rain started like when hurricane rains look light light wind only no issue there but in 24 hours 8 inches have fallen. I tough the previous repair fixed the problem but no, now it was leaking much more heavy than before and other places showed water damage in the near surroundings surface on the ceiling. Aperently I did not fix anything correctly, I need to do something, I asking advice from someone who has experience what should I do , replacing the whole area with new shingles , or try to pry the shingles open again since now they all have roof cement applied last week and now they stuck more than before ,the roof is 22 years old but I don't have the money to replace it please advise greatly appreciated, thanks in advance ❤

I always hate doing repairs that close to the cap here in Maine shingles suck to fix in the winter period we aren't getting over 70 this time of yr so work starts around 45 50 degrees everyday some roofs nomater how easy you are the shingles just crumble and right now we have so much thermal movement day to night that it tears various parts of a roof to crap standing seam is what I try to do most

even ply decks have many gaps which basically a lot of roofers end up blowing nails threw or nails are there but have zero hold... when you hand nail you can easily adjust and just put in some extra nails or pull nail and hit higher and lower. the bottom line is,just because a roof looks good from the road it does not mean it was done without mistakes...

Have a straight wind that swept through and only took off about a dozen half shingles at different locations only over garage. The rest of the roof is fine. This application would be the answer to my roof damage. The wind tore them in halves right upper shingle level. I kept the torn shingles, they are still pliable, may just glue them back on, may be puzzle getting them back in existing location. You think just gluing them would work?

When it comes to Mat Transfer, there is a pretty simple repairability test. if Mat Transfer happens, then that would mean replacing both shingles affected. After you then began to remove the lower shingle and ran into Mat Transfer again, how many shingles would you consider replacing before simply suggesting replacing the whole roof?
