Had a A5 before that and occured on that too with the actuator...Forgot to mention the window regulator as a common fault too, i was lucky...had mine go in the rain with the window down...and £400+ bill too....
Literally word for word with the hairline cracks on the coolant tank… just got it done yesterday @ Audi dealership here in mo. Only issue I’ve had thus far. Enjoy yours brother.
oh by the way... audi window regulator can be found for 50-100$ so theres no way it shouldve cost you that much for that issue, UNLESS you took it straight to an audi dealership....
I'm so glad I came across this video I own a 2009 3.2L a5 sline and I do have issues with the fuel pump and coolant noticed i have to full my coolant every week and with the fuel pump got some misfire codes so definitely will take it in to get those repaired
Great Vid👍. Had my 2007 S5 (114,000 miles) around 5 years and replaced both bushes, then the driver locking mechanism went and I did the quick fix first (with lubricant as the latch sticks when cold) then replaced it fully when was happening more often. Window regulator is another that goes. Will keep an eye on the coolant and waiting for the death rattle 🙈.
@@cristianfranco6288 yes an its fun 142k miles, its time for a refresh new timing chains an guides also update clutch install new slave cylinder an short throw shifter
I had 3 of these issues and was a costly repair job. Coolant, oil leaks and MMI. Loved the car and had it 4 years. But it came time to say goodbye the cost began to outweigh the driving pleasure
At what mileage did you encounter these problems? Did you perform regular maintenance on time? How aggressive did you drive it? Asking because I’m thinking about buying my neighbors 2010 v8 manual with 78,000 miles
The drain from the windshield can clog up with dead leaves and start leaking near your ecm. Also, kind of a freak one, the engine mounts are electronically actuated and if they short, they can blow up your ecm.
Jist bought one for 14.5k with 57k miles on it some millionare got read of his toy car runs awesome lets hope it stay that way im gonna baby it with constant services because i do have a havy foot
One more thing to add is on the manual v8 the clutch is a sensitive part and it's a big repair job. The automatic is pretty much trouble free Also the engine mounts go bad easily and will throw codes that cause misfiring.
So I have ONE simple question, that I have heard 746 different answers to all over the Internet about the 4.2L V8 lol (A) At what year did AUDI address the Timing Chain guide issue in the non-RS V8 to where it isn't a problem any longer? And (2) Does the RS engine NOT have that issue at all, as many have reported? Thank you for your INTELLIGENT responses... :)
Does that audi have an aftermarket exhaust? Sounds really good. Im looking at buying a higher mileage s5 v8 manual. Its done 232,000 kilometers or 144000 miles. Should i stay away at that mileage or go for it?
Is the timing belt not in the rear on these like S4s? I had an A8L 4.2 and the the timing started to go out. Didnt do mu research before I bought the car... they have to pull the motor b/c its in the rear! $4600!
Great video. Have a 2012 A5. Looking at 2022 S5. I have 94k on mine. Only issues were high pressure fuel pump and at 60k Audi replaced piston rings for free due to oil consumption. Burns zero oil since. Had a 2002 TT until I got this A5. TT had a few more issues and traded it in with 135k. I would’ve kept it but my back did not like the ride, being so low, and the clutch. I guess it’s almost always cheaper to keep a used car than have payments. But I really want the V6 and reliability at least through the 4 year warranty period.
Let me know if you decide to buy it. I’m looking at a V8 manual with 100k miles for about 15k I’m just worried it’s gonna be a money pit bc of high miles.
if its running down the front of the motor its the crank seal or the rubber seal that the oil filter neck is attached to in the valley under the manifold, VERY common, i did mine 6 months ago
I have had zero serious issues with my 4.2 so far (knock on wood) and the 4.2’s in the S5’s have been proven to be very reliable. The 3.0T however is even more reliable, by far one of the best engines Audi has released in recent years imo!
Every car will have its problems! I don’t make these to scare people, just to let them know what can go wrong. This one has been fairly reliable, minus misfires and an injector issue for my friend!
Ive been looking at this 2010 S5 for a fee days now, it has a couple of small mods but it needs a new valve cover gasket, is its worth getting? And how much would it cost to replace said part?
To all em kids looking to buy a cool audi and are wondering what will go wrong. Probably everything, but you'll still love the damn thing. Happened to me, still daily driving a v10 audi. Just go for it, they ain't gonna keep making them anymore. Now is the time.
I have an 09 V8 S5. I have remedied 8 of the issues you have raised here in the last two years. hahahaha... would I do it all again .. hell yeah I love this car! and it sounds awesome,
You sacred me. I have already got my cam chain fixed cost me a fortune and now I have an issue with the wheel bearing hopefully. The humming noise comes when I drive fast and the sterling wheel does shake a bit. I hope it's not the arm as you mention.
I’ve owned a 1998 Acura Integra GSR and 2005 BMW 330xi. Loved them both for different reasons. Considering paying cash for a 2015 S5 with 100K miles. Thoughts from anyone who is familiar with that model and year?

I think im about to purchase a 2015 s5 with 42k miles...looks absolutely mint ountside and inside but does anyone have experience with these? Like he says in the vid the sc v6 is supposed to be pretty solid right?
@@Dardania with the 3.0? Also it’s a 2014 not a 2015. I bought a 36k mile warranty on power train and such so I’m not too worried about it. What should I keep an eye on in your opinion?
Thanks! Just Subbed. I am sure I will need your knowledge as I just bought a 2008 S5. I love it and there is the low end hesitation. Winds out fine. Just has that off the line lag, when shifting. This is slow speed, slow acceleration. (Automatic Trans) It feels like the ignition drops out with each shift, for too long. It is worse when it is not to full temp. It happens in drive or sport mode. Any ideas?
Does anyone know why I can’t launch it. Ect on a BMW I can hold the break then keep it revving and launch. On the audi s5 i try the same thing but it doesn’t let me rev passed 2000 Rpm’s
I have a audi sq5 2014 and trust me... you will never see oil leaks on the ground because of the under panel they have, it just chills right there. If you have the high performance version like mine or the one in this video you will smell it no question. Changing the gaskets and all that is a problem bc most of the time you have to pull the engine to fix it. I havent had any of those problems with mine and its a 2014 model sq5.... and btw.... its fast

Last but not least, does high mileage (>100K) should be a factor when looking to purchase?
You can switch out the steering wheels! I plan on swapping my b8 wheel with a flat bottom b8.5 wheel. You will need to buy an airbag of a specific code if you wish to avoid coding the airbag so it deploys properly but they are a plug-and-play swap if you buy the right stuff. There are plenty of write-ups on forums and UA-cam vids to help. For any Audi with higher mileage, just make sure maintenance was taken care of by the previous owner and you should be set
Me again. All I’m hearing about the B8 transmissions failing. Is this on the 2010-2012 S4s and S5s? Again I’m looking into getting a S5 convertible. The prices are quite different from the B8s to the B8.5s. From I’ve read or seen in other videos the 2013 S5s don’t have the same transmission problems. Can you confirm or deny. Thanks dude!

Does anyone know why my 2011 S5 v8 (less than 50k miles) is shutting down when I'm sitting idle too long. It happened to me at a stop light a few weeks ago. I have to re crank and then it's fine. Everything is great but don't know what's up with this issue. Thanks.
That is Start-Stop system the engine turns off at around 1k rpm when you are fully stopped for fuel economy. That's normal unless your car doesn't have that system but i think it should have so simply press the button to turn it off the button looks like: The letter A with a circle around it should be on your center console.
@@Moh-cs5ck thanks for the tip although 2011 apparently didn't include that feature. Actually it hasn't happened again since I have turned off (turned down completely) the Amp and subwoofer my husband had installed. I have a suspicion that the extra sound is causing some type of electrical surge causing my car to go in limp mode. I guess...frustrating! Thanks though!
You mentioned you had a sub and amp, sometimes factory alternators can’t transfer enough energy to power an aftermarket amp and sub so it can cause the car to die. Also carbon buildup is known to cause a car to stall out on idle so if you’re due for a carbon cleaning, there’s a good chance that’s your problem
im looking at getting one of these but its a auto the manuals are hard to come by, I'm not quite sure on the reliability of the autobox and its kinda putting me off
Anthony, my known issue (most common as I found in my research before I bought my 2010 manual) has been the carbon cleaning. Ran me about 2,000$ USD. He LITERALLY covered every problem I've had with mine over past two years. High pressure fuel pump, passenger door not locking, carbon buildup, seat wear, oil leak, coil packs, even down to the stupid coolant reserve tank cracking!!! Speaks to my spirit.
Make it clear if you don't want to learn this type of work is not for you. Me and friend went to the state's top automotive college. What sets us apart is he didn't pay attention and got lower grades. I did and he still asks me to come over and fix his car's for money of course.
I Bought the 4.2L S5, 1 month. 37k miles but 13 year old. It’s seemed to be cared for quite well with full Audi service history, only 1 owner from new. Only issue ive noticed is the clutch is very heavy. Is this a sign of a failing clutch ?
I thought BMW had the most unreliable high performance German cars come to find out Audi has common issues that aren’t engine related like headlights and sun roof drains
Often with these expensive cars maintenance is expensive, and problems become more expensive. These are fun cars and will be reliable if you're willing to take care of them!

I gotta know where you bought that shift boot from
The drain from the windshield can clog up with dead leaves and start leaking near your ecm. Also, kind of a freak one, the engine mounts are electronically actuated and if they short, they can blow up your ecm.
Waterpump gave me a lot of problem on my S5 v6t and a4 2.0

The flow of this guys speech makes me believe him 100% lol hes good 👍
One more thing to add is on the manual v8 the clutch is a sensitive part and it's a big repair job. The automatic is pretty much trouble free
Also the engine mounts go bad easily and will throw codes that cause misfiring.

All s5 v8 are updated from b6/7 s4. They are a completely different v8 with direct injection
RS engines use metal timing guides vs. Plastic thus they don't suffer the same issues as the S
Does that audi have an aftermarket exhaust?

Great video. Have a 2012 A5. Looking at 2022 S5. I have 94k on mine. Only issues were high pressure fuel pump and at 60k Audi replaced piston rings for free due to oil consumption. Burns zero oil since. Had a 2002 TT until I got this A5. TT had a few more issues and traded it in with 135k. I would’ve kept it but my back did not like the ride, being so low, and the clutch. I guess it’s almost always cheaper to keep a used car than have payments. But I really want the V6 and reliability at least through the 4 year warranty period.

I have had zero serious issues with my 4.2 so far (knock on wood) and the 4.2’s in the S5’s have been proven to be very reliable. The 3.0T however is even more reliable, by far one of the best engines Audi has released in recent years imo!

Thanks! Just Subbed. I am sure I will need your knowledge as I just bought a 2008 S5. I love it and there is the low end hesitation. Winds out fine. Just has that off the line lag, when shifting. Sup all,
Looking at the cabriolet line up S5s. Any year in particular to seek and issues to be aware of? Thanks in advance. Also, in the older models can you switch out the gear shifter and steering wheel (square bottom)with the newer ones?

1. I need the live date scanner not sure which is best for this car!?
Apparently hubby can't work on it anymore he's over it said the scanner is 500 and up!?
After all the work done I still can't drive the car..

E.P.B.C.M J540 static
P0308,P0307,P0300 pending- all random misfires
P2293-pending. Fuel pressure reg. Valve. N276 MECH. MALFUNCTION
P0393- Camshaft postion sensor signal high. G301
P0368- G300
IS THERE ANY POSSIBLY WAY THE O RING from fuel injector on rail?
Does anyone know why my 2011 S5 v8 (less than 50k miles) is shutting down when I'm sitting idle too long. It happened to me at a stop light a few weeks ago. I have to re crank and then it's fine. Everything is great but don't know what's up with this issue. Thanks.
That is Start-Stop system the engine turns off at around 1k rpm when you are fully stopped for fuel economy. That's normal unless your car doesn't have that system but i think it should have so simply press the button to turn it off the button looks like:
The letter A with a circle around it should be on your center console.

You mentioned you had a sub and amp, sometimes factory alternators can’t transfer enough energy to power an aftermarket amp and sub so it can cause the car to die.
