Best UA-cam car content by far. You're not only humble and chill but you also try to share with us all your knowledge and you sort of make us part of the project. Keep up the great quality man, hard work pays off and you really work your ass off mate!
I was expecting a detailed breakdown mate as an example: £800 wheels £300 engine mods £550 wrap £600 coil overs But with the price of a mechanic that's going to be around £3,000? Something like: ££££ custom mods ££££ essential maintenance Would be ace to see this combined with fuel costs over 6months? I know these things can all be found online and are easily calculated with online tools but it would have been ace to see it in the video. Thanks for the content Mat, keep it up!
Depends on how much and where you drive it. I have to say it's hard to keep under the speed limit. I've never drove a car that can tease you into giving it gas like this thing.
Well done young man, as others have said, nothing seems to phase you and you remain good humoured throughout. I am severely sight impaired and no longer drive. However, I'm still a petrol head at heart and channels such as yours have become my new, "car magazines" because I cant see to read anymore. Keep it up, I look forward to seeing how the Q5 turns out. 😎👍 Steve
This guy is entertaining and nice. Compared to the bigger youtubers, this guy puts more work into his vids and cares about his community. Much respect my dude 👍
There is no depth to the sound though when you hear it in person (especially for a v8) as they are muffled and filtered to death. Also the auto gearbox makes the sound very flat and unexciting. Listen to an e.g. TVR Chimera, that's how a V8 should sound.
First off, great video and content as always. Hello from Alberta, Canada. I'm 40. I pay 1200 CAD for full coverage insurance, 94 per year to plate it. My 09 s5 has push button start. I did have to replace the door handle sensors for keyless entry. There aren't many places for aftermarket Audi stuff here. If you do find something, its very expensive. I didn't know that the timing guide issue was fixed. Thanks again for the great content. Stay safe.
Been a subscriber since the very first TT vid. Seeing your channel grow this much in such a small period of time is absolutely reasonable, and you deserve more than that to be honest. Keep the great content; we’ll keep the nonstop support. Much love Mat.
Fantastic series this S5 has been, I've been glued from the start and loved every minute of each episode. You're a sound guy Matt, I think that's what makes it even more enjoyable to watch. 👍🏻
I have a 2010 s5 4.2 v8. Best advice I can give is don’t cheap out and skip on maintenance.. one thing Audi loves is their maintenance!!! Keep up with and she’ll love ya in return :) such a little amazing car!
I had a 2010 s5 for my first car, had it for several years and didn't have any issues, just kept up with services and it was great. insurence was just over 3k but was at 1700 when I sold it
Depending on year/model, they turned the 4.2L V8 around to better fit the engine compartment. But as a result, it's an engine out service if you have to replace the timing chain guides. This can run you $4-5,000 😢
My S5 has 113000 miles on it, I paid £8500 with FSH, running well, no noticeable loss of power, manual box feels good, good clutch, the only thing I have had to do in 6 months ownership is adjust the drivers window as it wasn’t sealing properly, common fault on frameless doors. It’s my daily driver, fuel is a killer, I get 23mpg and use Tesco momentum 99ron fuel. The only mod I’ve done is a custom cat back exhaust with x pipe and resonator delete. Sounds epic. Love the car, but I’m moving abroad so I’m going to have to sell it soon. As a car it is fantastic, looks great, sounds great, goes well, is supremely comfortable and fun to drive, it grips like a grippy thing on planet grippy. It’s no B road blaster, my modded mx5 is more fun, but slower, on back roads but as a daily it’s Fantastic. By modern standards it’s down on power but 350hp and a sub 5 second 0-60 is still plenty quick enough for most people. I bought mine on a whim because I fancied a manual V8 car and i don’t regret a single moment of ownership. As a 45 year old with a good history I pay £250 for insurance, the tax is a bit of a sting though. Best part of £600 a year.
I have A5. 3,2 fsi. Now for 1 year. Only problem is winter. Those windows have to lover so that doors could be open. But that glass freezes. Sooo yea, there were 2 times i had to go thought trunk. Now in winters i left one window a little bit open.
This is so accurate with the common problems. A5 2008 here and I can say - Yup, had to replace 1 door lock. Yup, had to replace upper arms which are 4 in total. The chain is actually good but what makes noise in my car is the belt tensioner. But thats part of the timing chain. So even the chain itself is good, your engine, transmission, exhaust, everything has to go out of your car. But I never heard of nor had any manual transmission issue myself.
S5 was my first car and I bought it 3 years ago for 18k 2010 in white + red leather interior, some carbon fiber trim. Insurance was total rip off 1300£ quote on go compare, but ended up paid 2600£/annually due to "lack of driving experience" I commute 35miles to work a day + some social driving what cost me around 300£ for petrol (shell V Power) Due to this I sold car after 6 months of ownership, but it was by far the best car I ever driven. Currently have Jaguar XFS, but still missing "fan" part of the Audi.
The front OEM suspension arms are not solid enough. WHEN you replace those, always go for aftermarked upgraded parts even if you use it as daily driver. Some say that you can reduce the wear of those suspension arms a lot if you don't rotate the wheel while pressing the brake at parking lots. This supposedly causes damage to nylon inlining within those ball joints.
Loved the whole progress you made with this Audi Mat. Especially the "brave" colour scheme which turned out fantastic. Hopefully its mine after the raffle is done
gotta say im not into cars but watched you do all the mods on this car from the start and really enjoyed watching a big thx and look forward to more of your vids in the future.Stafe safe and wish you all the best
Maybe also add a video with the vagcom and unlock a few hidden features? Excellent content as usual. Or you could possibly do a bit of carbon fibre with the boys from easy composites uk? 👍
I bought a 09 s5 with the v8 6spd manual like 3 months ago and I’m already like 17 thousand into it going back and forth breaking and fixing stuff lol worth it though
great video.. keep it up. really enjoyed it. i have the A5 in red, but too scared to modify it as i dont want the insurance to increase an also dont want to mess up the car functionality, i would love to modify the car door to open with audi lights showing on the floor, fold out mirrors and some other inspirational stuff.
Mat, loving yours vids man, great content and a sound guy, you deserve alot more subscribers, keep up the great work 👍🏼 Idea for the next project . . . BMW E82 (preferably 135i) -> 1M Conversion (With Valencia Orange Wrap 😍) The car is so rare.
The microswitch inside the door lock is really "fun" one. You can get the switch alone and it costs about 3 €. However, to replace it, you need around 4 hours per door minimum. If there was as an upgraded switch that would last, it would be worth doing. Most of the time, it's easier to replace the whole lock (which still takes hours) and the lock body should cost around 70 € if I remember correctly.
Personally I think that your S5 series of videos has kickstarted your channel to what it is now, I know that you had that baby BMW before but this is the real deal not a little toy. I’ve really enjoyed your videos on this car and am a little sad that it’s come or coming to an end but you have def started something now, so hurry up and finish the Q5 and lets have a proper car
The high pressure fuel pomp piston needs to be changed each year. It's a cheap part(20eur) and super easy to change. Takes 10 min. Otherwise it can break and fall in the engine...then you can throw out the engine.
I live in "merica" and own a 13 s5. Beautiful car but lowkey...if you budget well its not bad. Im 22 now and i owned it a year and 8 months. Insurance is good...all in all just save up a bit . Good vid tho bud
The true cost is learning to drive chilled like, as fuel goes quickly. I have the manual shift V6 3.2 and love it on the German Autobahn. Will chip her soon to improve the beast! Like the wrap colour and grill bruv! Good job.
Love my Audi S5 2010 , i put ArmyTrix Valve-tronic exhaust on it and it sounds so Fucking amazing. I don't even listen to the stereo anymore , witch is Bang & Olefson, just the sweet sound of the exhaust.

It sounds fine from what you've said but from reading online forums of people who have had this car I'm hearing tons of horror stories about expensive repairs and almost everyone complaining about the timing chain going and it being 7-10k to repair.

The S5's got upgraded guides for the timing chains, it was the older 4.2's in the s4 that had the timing chain issues.
