Would you go for the 4.2 V8 S5 or the 3.0 V6 Supercharged S5?
I have the 3.0t tuned to 430. I hang with 2018 mustangs and similar muscle cars. Its pretty fun. And I drive it daily, even when we get 30cm snow here in Northern Sweden :)

Oh my God that exhaust sound. Gone are those beautiful days.
The only thing I can think of similar to this, engine-wise, these days is the IS 500. RC F is too expensive to really replace this, but unfortunately there's no RC 500 - that would be a true competitor... naturally-aspirated, 7300-RPM V8 in a compact premium car. Mmm.
I've driven an IS 500 and it's more of a grand-touring car kinda like the S5 as well. Not super sharp, but felt very similar to my IS 350.
Not gone yet since it still drives around.

Nice car. Currently I have an 2015 8T RS5. It has a few mods done to it. Makes at the moment 490hp, bigger injectors, better intake boxes, tune, exhaust with valves

This is my neighbours car and we go for drives now and then (I drive a 996 911) and I can confirm this thing is ludicrously loud and epic!! That V8 sound makes me laugh out loud with joy just like Martin every time. Big S/O to Hasan for the nice build! In the end its always about the experience, not the numbers.

Yea, you gotta call it nostalgia. Without looking it up, this car came out in 2007 I guess. A kid born back then almost finished high school.
This car really got me into cars. The boss of my mom got an S5 as like the first Audi S5 in Germany or at least in the region.
I will never forget the first time I heard that modern V8. That sound profile. So clean, so modern, yet so powerful. Like a helicopter.
Got to drive it later and damn, compared to modern cars this is a dinosaur. Like Max said. A linear performance delivery, more like a (sports-)truck. But such a handsome one!
The job they did on this exhaust is marvellous. No stupid PoPZ AnD BAnGz but only clean V8 babbling.
Thanks mate. This car had pops and bangs from prev owner. So I deleted everything and restored it back to original. Now it has his own v8 pops bangs 💪

In 2008, the Audi S6 had a V10, the same used in a gallardo lp 560.
Now,it uses a v8.
Now the S5 has a V6 (diesel)
@@Euphorica not the FSI 4.2. Older port injected 4.2 in the s4 had the chain issue. The FSi 4.2 is bullet proof.
@@AutomotiveMatt s5 and s6 are different in regions, like here in SA the s6 has the 2.9 v6 from the rs4/5 and the s5 has the Porsche 3.0v6

Such a great video! Ive got the same car. Ive changed the exhaust system and added a throttle controller unit which has increased the response very well. The sound from the exhaust is fantastic! My neighbors love the morning cold starts

Love the look of these early coupes, so elegant compared to contemporary M3, C63 coupes etc. RS5 is a perfect cruiser.

I went 265kmh in Germany last year in my V8 S5 Manual and I was surprised at how comfortable it felt doing those speeds. Was scared shitless. I got it out my system and now barely ever go beyond 160kmh 😂
i just did 284kmh in mine and it had plenty of power left. i think 300 is possible

V8s are far too special to be used in cars like the S5
@@t8506 I drive the V6 version, to be honest, it rocks! The V6 engine has a better power to weight ratio, I think. The supercharger is also amazing, and allows for incredible chip tuning potential, or even pulleys, if you want to. The only downside is that it doesn't sound like the V8...

You need to find the V6 supercharged version. More tunable engines with that godly supercharger whine when the air induction is changed. Can't beat the V8 sound though

Which is more reliable 3.0 or 4.2? I heard the 4.2 V8 needs the whole engine out to do the tensioners.. not sure how true that is tho
I've got the RS4 B8 and it's an absolute joy. The V8 sound is unbeatable - shame the engines are gradually getting smaller now.
These cars are actually faster than they are given credit for, (although I know they are still not that fast)..a family member of mine has owned a 4.2 6 speed auto S5 since new in 2010, and has covered about 125,000 miles. It started idling very poorly when cold around 80k miles and I begged and pleaded him for years to have the carbon cleaning done. Finally, he gave in about a month ago and did it. The difference in performance is shocking. It’s also part of the reason for the lame upshifting and downshifting…after the cleaning, the car is WAY faster than it was, shifts a lot faster and smoother, and just runs like a completely different car.
To prove my point I ran 100-200km/h and dragy verified ran 17.5s before and 13.7s after! It’s like a different car now and back to how I remember it when he bought it new.
Can someone please tell me what kind of exhaust this is? I have the same S5 and looking for good sound. Thanks.

I think this video sums up an era gone. Sound is so important to the driving experience, that’s why we spend much $$$ trying to modify our exhaust, speed is second but how often are you driving on the limit? In my opinion, most ppl should not have anything over 300hp.
Luckily I have a slow A5 lol, I’d get so many speeding tickets for the sound alone
I have the same s5 and for me it’s quick, but yep on a channel that shows insane speeds it’s a dinosaur but bang and sound for the buck 👍

Yes,engine lose some power but it can be fixed with intake valve decarbonisation and with intake manifold decarbonisation

I have the manual 6-speed V8 S5 with exhaust and K&N and though mine has 125,000 miles (200ks), it is (or at least feels) way quicker than this one - doesn't sound quite as epic though. Nice car and nice review. Love my S5 :)

This car actually has more torque than the RS5 of the same year 😮 This car is fast enough at 0-60mph in 5 secs when the car is well maintained.Take it the car is stock to and no tunes

5.8sec 0-100 with 220k km? I won't see the mileage as an excuse because my A6 with the 3.2 V6 does about 6-6.4 seconds with 320k km although it would probably benefit from brake boosting and FSI cleaning. I thought the 100 extra hp and torque would help it out a bit more than what I see here... So basically I got almost the same performance with less fuel consumtion while cruising... apparently

@@HellaNorCal916 had the same issue with my EA113 Turbo FSI Octavia RS. Power loss, even with stage 2 it felt almost like stock. After proper cleaning of intake and valves it now again has explosive power like it used to have.

Fatih Ömür the only Audi that didn’t really have problems is the crec dual injection. The singular injection is still able to have carbon deposits on the valves.

Outrageous exhaust! It's amazing how different the S5 and RS5 are. RS5s scream and need to be revved to get to the power, the S5 is so much more relaxed and easy going. The zf 6hp get jerky and laggy with age and a rebuild should help with how lazy it is. These FSI engines suffer from carbon build up which can sap power but the elephant in the room is the dreaded timing chains. Otherwise visually, I personally feel they have aged very well.
The B8 S5 doesn’t suffer from timing chain issues, it’s the 4.2 in the old B6/B7 Audis that had the chain problems
The RS4 high rev V8 has a flat plane crank, similar to Ferrari and the Corvette C8 Z06.
I don't believe this variant of 4.2L V8 has the flat-plane

see the engine in the front of the axle don't mean that the system engine+gearbox has the center of the mass in the front of the axle, maybe it is on the axle or behind
Anyone who's ever owned a B8.5 S5 with the supercharged V6 knows that the actual horsepower of the car when it comes from the factory is more than 333.
