I got my 1300 VTX for several reasons. It's comfortable, powerful, plenty fast even with two up riding. I like the simplicity of tuning with the single carb and shaft drive. And that single pins crank gives me that classic sound I wanted. And my friends say, "But it's not a Harley". I say, I never wanted a Harley, and never will. I want dependability at a great price and less maintenance. I don't leave my bike parked in front of a bar all day to show it off. I ride it and enjoy it! The 1300 VTX is a great bike.

That's about it! Only most of the Harley riders I know take their bikes to the dealers and spend huge amounts of money to get them fixed because they know nothing about how they're made. "Quality in craftsmanship" my ass.
I still have my VTX1300, and I can't even tell you how many times HD nut-jobs have made fun of me for riding a Japanese cruiser, only to take their bike in and out of their garage/the shop to make expensive repairs constantly. My bike's been dropped several times, and I've always picked it up, rode it home, and took it to the mechanic to have them tell me nothing's wrong with it other than scratches and dents. A good bike is determined by quality, performance, price, and style. Not because you get a boner from the branding.
Same dropped mine 2000 miles from home, scared the shit outta me. Bags and extra lights caught it not even a scratch.
I carry a tool kit because I have friends that ride Harley's. Honda don't need one

I will not slam any bike. I bought my Soft Tail Classic over ten years ago. It was a 1991. Black and chrome and good looking. My neighbor bought a 1300 VTX.
Long story short. Some major work done over the years..a serious drop in value and my top end went. 70,000 miles. Sold it to a mechanic for $2,500. A loss of 11K plus. Last year at breakfast in Lowell, Michigan...my wife over heard someone talking about selling their bike. Yep..a VTX R model. Hard bags, windshield all black and chrome and BEAUTIFUL. I bought it on the spot. My wife has a Yamaha V star. Same look.
The VTX is more bike than my Harley was and a dream to ride. Price?? $ 2,500. No regrets except that I wish I would have bought one sooner. I am almost 58 and have been riding for 50 years and MANY different rides. This one is the best in my opinion that I've owned.

I have a 1300c 2007 model .....I also own 2 Harley's .... a 17 soft and a 09 1200 low rider. Guess which one I ride the most. I love all bikes and the riding part is more important than the brand. Got my vtx with 4,200 original miles for $2000 ..... I knew nothing about them but knew that was a deal. I got all the service records and bought f on the original owner. I've since did all the smog delete built a nasty carb for and intake. Just put the heads back on after having them worked.((family owns a race engine shop)) so I did all of this on a bike I got very cheap mostly for fun. Both Harley's have been parked ever since. With all the work I've done to the motor coupled with the custom exhaust this bike has so much power/torque I'm impressed. The initial plan was to use for long rides for me and the wife. But I've been on it everyday to work and back. The sound of my vtx is awesome. I will say the pair valve system and the baby jets in the carb from factory definitely hold these things back. Awesome bikes all around. When price is factored in it's a win win to enjoy a cruiser.

I'm 62, returning to riding after 40 absence. I bought a VTX 1300R in excellent condition (only 2800 miles) for $3400 in NC. I love this bike. I had several Honda street bikes back in the 70s. Had to get use to the low ground clearance of the cruiser. First time I scrapped the floorboards I nearly had a heart attach. I'm 6'0", 220lbs and this bike fits me like a glove. All the bike I want or need. Plenty of bolt-on accessories available too. Only small downside is I wish it was fuel injected.
Im 5'6" 165 and can drive one of these all day. Love it. The only only reason I like the carb is just the feel. It gives it the shitty running old Chevy feel muscle heads all love.

I rode an 1100 Sabre for a while. It was a nice bike, and in all practical applications kept up with with the bigger bikes and did fine on the highway. I'd still have it if I didn't go the Adventure bike route.
I’ve got a 750 that’s been bored all the way out, ported and polished and nobody believes that it’s a 750 cause it keeps up with the best of them...
And the most important part is- I’ve had NO problems with her.

I had a Shadow 1100 Ace Tourer - beautiful bike, but now I have an 05 VTX 1300R. Love the new one...a bit lower center of gravity and I'm only 4'11" so it makes a difference. Lots of power and great looks, too!

Just bought a 2007 vtx 1300 c, already had a Mustang seat on it, everything else is stock. 2,477 mi on it, show room condition, white. only thing I did not like, was I kept feeling my feet would slip off the pegs. So was never able to fully relax my legs. Bought some after market foot rest with a place to rest my heels, about $45.00 and they look great on the c , seems to have taken care of the problem, which was probably mostly mental. only other planned upgrades, quick release windshield, sometimes you just like the wind, quick release saddle bags, not always going on a trip or to the store, The vtx rides and handles great on country winding highways, at posted speeds and a little faster, never scraped the pegs, they sit up higher than floor boards, slow maneuvering in city traffic no problem. just real nice motorcycles.
S is for spoke rims and is the same bike as the R ( retro) .C is for custom and has different fenders and dash
Also the "T" that comes with sissy bar and windshield no spokes...
They call the R the Retro model. I don't know why, and I have one. It has big, heavy "mag" (aluminum) wheels. And, of course, a big, heavy, fat ass front tire as well. I have to really push it down into the turns. Now I'm looking for spokes. Otherwise, it's great.

I love my 2004 VTX1300! I get lots of compliments on it and it's a great ride for me and even with my wife on the back. Almost 40k on mine and no maintenance issues.

Been riding my 05 for about a month now. It’s my 5th bike but before it I had maxed out on a 750. I was a little intimidated but by the time I’d gone a few blocks I was over it. It had been 12 years since I rode. I love it.
I own the 2005 VTX. Bought it last year as MY FIRST BIKE! Looks the exact same as the one you are riding in this video. Even the same color! And I love it!! Can't get enough. The only problem I have is I live in Illinois and can't ride it year round. I love this bike!! And thank you for the prayer. That was cool.
I've had this model bike for 5 years now. I bought it from the original owner who took good care of it. I agree with SRK that this is a superb bike. One minor thing I dislike about this bike is, there are 2 oil drain plugs instead of a single plug like other bikes.
Other than that issue, the VTX 1300C is a very nimble bike for it's size and weight. Mine is setup with forward foot controls which is nice for taller riders (I'm 6' 1"). It also has good range with the big gas tank. However, a gas gauge would be nice; but having 2 trip meters does help provide a sense of when it's time to get gas. ☺️ Plus having the reserve tank is a plus too.
So for a daily commuter bike or distance cruiser, I highly recommend this model for any experienced rider looking to upgrade.

That's totally not true I had bikes that I said I hated and couldn't wait to sell like my Yamaha R6 what a nightmare that thing was I had to sit like I was bending over my stomach was crushed and it really was not a fast bike , horrible I dumped it with 500 miles

Bought a 2003 VTX 1300 S. That's the classic looking with spoked wheels. It only had 14600 miles. Batwing fairing with Bluetooth sound system. Hard saddlebags. Ultimate seats with custom upholstery. Vance and Hines pipes. Crash bars. There are other extras I didn't even bother mentioning. It has over $2000 of extras. I paid less than $3000 for it.
It runs like a Honda. Looks like a Harley bagger. My neighbor has a HD Road King. He had an issue that he fixed for over $2800. More than what I paid for my entire bike. I keep up with him on highway rides. I never ever had to do any repairs on her. I only change oil and filter. I will have to check the valves clearance at some point in time.
All in all, a sweet and very reliable bike.
Sean is not wrong here. I have a 07 VTX1300R with 96,000km (around 60,000mi). I picked it up in June and put 6,000km on it. It has always started and run great. Enough power for my 250lb heft plus gear when travelling. It is also fine 2-up with my wife on the back (not saying weight lol).

Is the VTX 1300 more desirable than the Honda Shadow Sabre 1100? I'm not interested in touring; simply country rides, mixed with urban commuting.
My dad had one of these for 15 years before switching to a goldwing, rode it year round the whole time and to 13 different states. I don't remember it ever not starting
The reliability of these bikes is astounding!! I've owned my 05 vtx1300c for 3 years now, and not once have I ever had to apply the choke. Even after sitting in my basement for 6 months over winter. Spring rolls around, throw a new set of plugs in it and fire it up!! I've never seen a drop off any kind of fluid under it. Rock solid, bulletproof bike.

Sorry, but the best bike for the money is the third generation Honda magna lol. That said, that's a REALLY deal for that bike, expecially coming from a reputable dealership. One of the most agile cruisers, faster than most cruisers twice it's displacement, and it purrs like a big cat. For me, the 750 v4 is "enough" , lol. Current classic, future collectable, no doubt. That said, the vtx will be the superior touring machine for 99% of people. And if your a fan of the sound of a v-twin, imo Honda v-twin's sound incredible
Yeah we have them here in the uk.. but once they have been neglected a lil bit they run rough and are hard to put right
I've had my VTX1300 for the past 7 years - got it with Mustang Seats. Only downside I've had with it is all the mods staring me in the face that want to be done! I've done a lot to it and there's still a lot to do it. Maintenance is so super low - I haven't HAD to do anything to it except fork seals (easy to do in your own garage). I love it. So much fun. 1800s are cool too, but gearing's different, more tech to worry about (not a bad thing necessarily).
I have a 2005 VTX-R with 56, xxx miles on it. I bought it with 35,000 on it. I still get compliments on it. I've had people ask... is that an Indian? It rides like a dream. The video is correct. The only thing I've done to this bike is change the battery and do normal maintainance. It's a beautiful machine. I'm 70 now and I plan to ride it for another ten years. (God willing).
Just bought an 07 1300R with 2700 miles on it. I'm 71 so this bike will outlive me. Or should.
My first motorcycle was an ‘03 VTX1300. Wonderful bike and fun to drive, however I never could keep up with my friend’s 1800. I bought an ’05 VTX1800 which is quite the power upgrade but I still admire the 1300 when I see one. Glad to see the honest review.

I have a 2007 VTX R 1300. Bought it brand new, today I have 32,000 miles on it. NO Problems of any kind in 14 years. Great bike and soooo dependable.
Love my 06 vtx-c. The low center of gravity was a big plus for me..I'm only 5-7...the bike fit perfect for me...the only changes were the seat, Corbin custom..nice..not cheap tho...and I put risers on the bars...it moved them back about 2 inches... perfect..it has been a dream to own...my first bike, plan on keeping always. You can't go wrong with the vtx
I ride the same year VTX. Mine is in the R config and did the same upgrades you did for a perfect fit too. Have had her 12 years and 67K miles now on the odometer. Got her in 2010 with 5K on her. I don't ride as much as I use to working from home more and more these days but it is always a treat when I do. Longest trip; Raleigh, NC to Austin Texas and back via different routes. Second longest: Raleigh, NC to Key West Florida again via different routes. Good times!
I have an 06 VTX1300S never had a problem with it. Love that bike. She was my first bike I bought brand new.
Enjoyed that! I bought my 2006 VTX 1300 R in spring of 2010. Four years old with only 5K on the odometer. $6,000 out the door. I have 67K on her now. Only things I have had to replace in 12 years has been, like you mentioned, has been the battery and I did the voltage regulator too just to be safe. Was amazing to me that the first battery was 8 years old when I had to replaced it. :-)

I had a vtx in florida and just bought another in California, a VTX 1300 2007 with 19,000 for 3300 , custom leather seat with sissy bar , beautiful new leather saddle bags . I rode it through the BigBear mountains this weekend in California and I truly fell in love with her, compliments everywhere I went , I want to ride her through all the US taking photos and having fun camping, it's a dream come true
Great review, appreciate the shout out for my favorite starter cruiser. Plenty of power for long trips once you replace the factory seat and install some highway pegs. Reliable, reliable, reliable, enough said. Inexpensive and easy to maintain yourself. Excellent handling at low speed, carries its weight well. Only other downside is the factory suspension. Not a deal breaker but the bike will rattle you over the big potholes. Lots of aftermarket parts including seats and progressive suspension. I love mine and won't sell it; cheaper to keep her!
I own a 2005 S model great bike,great sound,fairly comfortable for a 6'1" 270lb old fat guy.Nothing like my 86 wing but has a good ride to it.My 03 VTX 1800 was a perfect fit and tons of power but this 1300 does a good job though a bit smaller.God Bless and ride safe.

Love the 1300, sound is great (even better with Cobra or V&H pipes), with a Mustang seat I can ride all day. Great torque and enough power to carry 2-up at triple digits. Super reliable, and easy to work on. A real bargain second-hand bike… at least for now; I predict the value of these bikes will increase. Honda could easily build these again with the Fury engine (pretty much the same motor with fuel injection) 🤙

Hey Shawn, I just bought a 2009 Honda VTX1300r with only 17,464 miles. I pick it up tomorrow and I can't wait. I'm 65 and this is my first bike this big. Can't wait to ride it home. Love your videos.
I owned a 2004 VTX1300 for 12 years and absolutely loved it. My wife talked me into getting a GL1800 Goldwing, which has it's place, but oh how I long for that VTX. As you've mentioned, the carburetion on this thing is incredible. The ONLY thing I would fault on the VTX1300 and many/most other Hondas IMHO is their choice of gear ratios. I did the math and the VTX1300 can hit 75 mph in 2nd gear at redline. That's just insane for a cruiser! And in 5th gear, I was able to accelerate briskly uphill with a 200+ pound passenger on the back. The bike has plenty of torque to pull a taller 5th gear and if I were riding in the mountains, hey, I do know how to downshift if required. IF I were asked to decide on ratios, I'd shorten 1st gear (would allow slower maneuvering through parking lots without clutching a lot, shorten 2nd gear so that it topped out at maybe 60 mph, leave 3rd gear where it is (it's a beautiful gear), change 4th gear to the current ratio for 5th, and move 5th on up for more relaxed highway cruising. I bought this bike because of the water cooling and shaft drive (I wanted as little maintenance as possible). Were I in the market for a "similar bike" today, I would opt for the Yamaha V-Star 1300 Deluxe which is now water cooled and uses a more efficient low maintenance belt drive. When I test rode this new Yamaha, I was so pleasantly impressed with their gear ratio choices. VERY relaxed at highway speeds. Also, eliminating two 90 degree conversions in the drivetrain, by using belt drive rather than a shaft, puts more of the available engine power to the rear wheel. Although both bikes make similar horsepower/torque, the Yamaha FELT a little quicker. Reliability wise, the ONLY thing I did with the VTX1300 was change the oil, replace one battery at 8 years old, and replaced one set of rear brake pads in well over 40,000 miles. Tires lasted me about 12 thousand miles UNTIL I put on a set of Metzler 808's which had nearly 20,000 on them when I sold the bike and it still passed safety. The most incredible thing about the Metzlers for me is that they absolutely ignored rain grooves in the pavement and were totally stable over on open grate lift bridge. The Dunlops were pretty squirrelly on the same bridge. Like SRK mentioned, you can't go wrong with a VTX1300 at the prices available today. IF you can find one with the genuine Hondaline windshield, even better. Ridiculously expensive but so effective and it looks amazing. That shield does require their lightbar for mounting. There were two holes in the shield behind those lights and it is my belief that Honda designed it that way to equalize air pressure in front of and behind the shield. My beard just barely fluttered on this thing and there was absolutely no need for lowers to reduce/eliminate buffeting. Even a dumptruck coming toward you on a two lane road did not upset the balance. After test riding the VTX1300 with this shield, I told my wife that we just purchased a slightly more expensive bike but it was worth it IMHO.

I had a 2003 Yamaha VStar 650 Silverado for my first bike. I wanted a big bike, so spent a couple of years looking to see what I wanted. I found this VTX 1300 and loved all the good reviews and not so pricey price tag. I ended up buying a 2006 VTX 1300 R. I love it. The previous owner put a few upgrades on it. I’ve added bags and am in the process of changing out the lights. I love this bike. Currently, I have to pull the choke to start it, even in warm weather. Based on this video, I guess I need to tune the carburetor. I’m not a mechanic, so I’ll be YouTubing how to do that. Thanks for the info and video. This review really validates my choice to buy this bike. I’ll have it until I can finally afford the Indian Chieftain I’ve been dreaming about for many years.
I have the 1800, absolutely love it. It's my first Honda. Favourite of all my bikes I had, including the M109R
Don't use the choke to start the bike!! Twist the throttle a few times before pressing the ignition button and the bike should start up! Using the choke WILL foul the spark plugs!
Buying an 06 VTX 1300R this weekend as my first bike. 15k miles, cobra pipes, and so clean it could go back in the showroom. Itll last me,a good long time I'm sure!

I had a 2005 VTX 1300 C for a few years and absolutely LOVED that bike. regular maintenance is easy and the thing just goes! Had to sell it during a divorce, but wish I still had it. Might be looking to get another one - might try the 1800 just to see if there's a big difference with the higher displacement motor, but I love these bikes!
yes. 1300cc carbureted verses 1800cc with fuel injection on the later. Even though they look almost the same very few of the parts are interchangeable. The 1800 is over all a much heavier built bike. I weigh 205 lbs. and stand 5'7" and I had to put 3" risers on my 1300 R to reach the handle bars comfortably. My point is it is still a good sized bike for most people.
@@peteowens3033 Awesome! I'm 6'2" and weigh about 255 lbs, so the height and weight of the bike was fine for me. Plenty of power and great for cruising, which is what I did mostly when I had my 1300.

I was shopping around for something bigger. I went to look at a vtx 1800 but when I got there it was the 1300. Test drive it and it was so dang pretty I bought it.. loved riding it. It’s a great bike. But wanted something bigger. Found a Kawasaki Vulcan 2000 so sold the 1300. Can’t go wrong with the vtx 1300 if you don’t mind a smaller cc bike.
I have a 2005 vtx 1300r with 24,xxx and going up,and I've owned and ridden many,many bikes, but this thing is a tank and by far the most reliable bike I've owned...other than regular maintenance,I've done nothing short of smiling with every ride!!!...great video and keep up the reviews!!!
My dads 1300 doesn't have quite as much torque on the highway when traveling. My 1800 is a total monster, have the perfect power and torque. Both are extremely comfortable, fuel efficient, and are easy to handle once you get used to how heavy they are, which all cruiser bikes are, but after that, they are super comfortable and blast to ride.
The VTX1300 is a great bike. My only complaints were its lack of fuel injection, lack of a hydraulic clutch, and it needed progressive rate springs… well and the plastic chrome. I highly recommend it.
Had a 2011 Honda Areo 750 was a great bike.
The down side is that for $800 more you can get a VTX1800!!! The 1800 is the top where the 1300 is the middle and the 750 shadow is the bottom. Where do you want to ride? Goldie Locks would pick the VTX1300. It's not too big, not too expensive, not too slow, not too ~ well it is "just right." So that is another down side, Goldie Locks would pick it. The perfect bike!!!

We all have Goldie Locks within us. Wanting that "just right" house or car or bike, nothing wrong with that. You have those people that have the "bigger is better" mentality and then down the road they're selling it for something "just right".

@ A Babbit. I had a VTX 1800C for 10 years and have ridden my friend's wife's VTX 1300 many times. There's really no comparison as the 1800 is far superior bike in almost every way. Considering the price differential between the two, there's no way I'd settle for the 1300. With that said, it does make for a wonderful bike for women who want to get into riding and I'm not trying to be derogatory when I say that. But in this case, bigger is better IMHO.
That is the "R" model sir...get your facts straight!! Just kidding. I have owned a 2006 "R" model for the last 4 years and I got it for $4,000 with 22,000 miles on it. The only thing I have done is put All Balls racing bearings in the neck to cure a slight wobble that was only noticeable when you took your hands off of the bars. One of the strong points of this bike (and nobody seems to mention it) is the suspension. I drag the floor boards all the time and upstate N.Y. has crap roads at best. The bike just eats it up and stays flickable for such a big bike. I like mine so much that I decided not to trade or sell it when I bought my Africa Twin. You are spot on in this vid. Great bike.

There is no down side to the Honda VTX 1300. They are awesome bikes! A waitress at the truck stop by my house has a husband who has a VTX 1300 and he's wanting to upgrade to a Harley. I told her he might not be upgrading because I think the VTX 1300s are just as nice as a Harley. Of course I am a fan of all buies too.
I have a 05 vtx1300. There are 2 main downsides for me are. There are no forward controls made for it(I'm 6'4). And no 6th gear. At 80mph I wish it was at a lower rpm. That's it. It's a great bike i paid 2,800 for mine. Put 3k on it every month. I ride everywhere in the ga mountains

I got a vtx 1300 a couple months ago and love it.
I just completed a 1859 mile round trip to Key West Florida on my 2006 VTX 1300S. Bought the bike new has 27,000 miles on it most reliable bike out there. I support American made products but, I worked at a bearing plant for 17 years, the Japanese have tighter tolerances than we do. They really care about the product they put out. I agree too mine has never leaked a drop of anything, change the battery and tires and let it rip.
Makes me miss my old shadow. That was soooo smooth (specially compared to my 02 vmax, which i love, but cruising and smoothness.. honda all day.

I currently own a Dual Sport KLR 650, I have never owned a Cruiser, but after reviewing many of them, the Honda VTX is the one I definitely want to buy! I used to own a Honda 650 Nighthawk, which is one of the best bikes I have ever had! I have great faith in Honda!
I had a vtx 1300c.....The best bike I've ever had. Reliable, fast enough, powerful for two people, sleek looking, parts for days, It was the best 2500 bucks i've ever spent as a 20 year old. I sold mine sadly to pay for my wedding but I would get another in a heartbeat. I'll be a forever fan of the VTXs.
I think the only downside is the sound the bike makes, but that can be fixed with pipes.
I have a 2004 vtx 1800 s. Great bike. The 1800 adds fuel injection along with the ability to add a power commander. Mustang seats and back rest, batwing fairing and hard bags and it keeps up with anything out there as a touring bike.
Yeah but its heavier.. less agile and sounds not as good as the 1300.. and is way more £££

I bought a Vtx1300r 2yrs ago for my 65th Birthday after a 35yr furlough. Love it. It has 118000km. on it and runs like a clock. The only drawback is the seat. I recushioned it and now is much better.

I have the baby by 125 and it's amazing so I can only imagine that all honda VT bikes are well made and thought put into the design, from the small 125 cc to the huge 1300 cc , but still look the same .

I've had a Shadow 750, a CB350 Four, a Yamaha Virago 750, a Goldwing 1500. The VTX is my favorite so far. I'm gonna get an 1800, just to see if the power is worth the weight.
i bought one a few years ago and got it repainted and put apes on it and only had an issue with a vacuum line and dirty carb such a great bike

Totally agree, Sean. Great bike for local tooling around, if you want to tool around in a cruiser. But if you're someone who does hours on the highway, the VTX1800 may be more suitable for you. Either way, Honda quality is Honda quality.
Certainly the 1800 would feel better on long trips but, that 1300 is plenty for long trips and will save you money. It probably gets 4-5 mpg better than the 1800. These are cruisers anyway not tourers. If you want a bike to tour on distance trips you would want something with storage and cruise control. A comfy seat with multiple feet positions is a must as well. Trust me.
I generally agree with you, but certain cruisers can be just as comfortable. I've ridden a VTX1800 and a Valkyrie across many state lines, and I packed a week's worth of gear with me many times. To include a tent on a few occasions. There are many soft luggage companies that can outfit a cruiser quite adequately. As for cruise control, its something that I never liked using either on a bike or a car. P.S. The absence of vibration is a more significant comfort ingredient for me.
The 1300 has taller gears, better out on the highway. More relaxed rpms. On the 1800 ( I've only rode one around town) they say out on the highway you get the feeling it needs another gear. At least that's what I heard.
The 1300 is much more agile and has a very noticeable lower center of gravity
I have owned 2 each, 2006 VTX 1300C bikes. I loved the first one so much that I bought a second one! Love the bike! It should be my last Cruiser ever! The current ride has 8k. I have done pipes, Jet kit, K&N filter and new tires. Nothing bad to say! My first one was out of the crate and put 10K miles on it before selling it due to a move. Second was 3 years old and 3.5K on the clock. Now today, it has 8K. Great bike just no time to ride!
I have a Honda 1300 as well and they are battle tanks and seriously dependable bikes. I love my 2005 and have no plans on retiring it anytime soon, lol. Strong bike and has never left me stranded. And maintenance costs are far below a Harley, lol.
I've been to Yellow Stone, been to Million Dollar Highway, and Michigan and Montana love my VTX 1300
I have the same bike... except a 2007. I have about 80,000 on it and it has been a really good bike. It has never quit on me. I know of guys who have put 200,000 miles on them and even one dude that put 300,000 miles on his. They are bullet proof. They are not as fancy as an expensive bike like a Harley or an Indian but you can get a good used one for 2500 dollars with probably only 7 thousand miles and it will last pretty much forever. They only have 2 down sides. 1. No fuel indicator... but you have an odometer and a reserve tank. 2. Only 5 gears. I run my bike at 75 mph all day but at 80 it sorta seems like you need to shift to 6th gear and there is no 6th gear. So because of that your gas mileage isn't as good as it could be if you had a sixth gear. All in all though, for the price, it's a really great bike.

It’s twice the bike vs a HD Fatboy and half the price. The stock seats suck ... first thing I upgraded went with Corbin Seat.

Kirk Nra the s had spokes the r or retro had solid aluminum wheels i have a retro btw the custom or c had the body color tool storage cover and short fenders and the pegs instead of floorboards.
Put convex mirrors on it and add some handlebar risers to bring them up 2-3" so you sit more upright. My 09R was blue with wide whitewall Dunlop tires. and I had engine guards on each side that enabled me to get out from under the bike when i had a couple of spills.

I just traded my 2003 VTX 1300 for a 2017 Indian Chieftain Dark Horse. I do have to say that I love my VTX and it was a great ride. It was just time to upgrade.

I own a 2012 Honda Stateline 1300 which is basically an updated version of the VTX (actually, it's the replacement to the VTX) with a custom chopper look. Same exact engine and transmission except it's Fuel injected, and looks and sounds meaner. You can also get a used one cheap for under $5,000.
I have a 2004 VTX R. Love the bike. Same color as the one in the video. My only complaint is that it should be a 6 speed. At 60 MPH I'm looking to shift gears and It's not there. She really starts screaming at about 70 MPH.

As a previous owner of a 2003 VTX I can say that this bike is a phenomenal bike to own. Add the Cobra Longshots and you get a deep, throaty vtwin sound. If you like the twisties...you better get used to scrapping your floorboards.
One thing based on research I have found...NEVER use the choke. Over time it causes problems with the carburation. I live in Canada and we have cold springs and falls alike...twist the throttle a few times even when cold and it will start.
Never leaked a drop of oil and I always used synthetic. My VTX was retired with 63000km. It's going to head off to a new home!

Having said that, I have one of these and everything else he said seems spot on to me.
I picked up my VTX 1800 for $3,000 with 12,000 miles on it. it's fuel injected, has dual front disc brakes, and when I pull my trailer behind it, it knows it's there, but it doesn't care. I've never had a problem with it other than basic maintenance. It has 25000 miles on it now, and you'd think that you just rode it off the showroom floor. as I am a truck driver, this thing is going to last me forever. Hands down, the best bike I've ever had. Quick tips, replace the seat with something more comfortable, and get an air suspension for it. Do that, and five or six hundred miles a day is doable. It's very torquey, and it will feel like a lot of bike at first. Especially around town. Respect the power, you will have plenty.
Carbs don't suddenly need tuned. The carbs need cleaned. The pilot jet and air screw are notorious issues when fuel sits to long in the carb. They need lots of choke and don't idle and run well when needing cleaned.
I have a 2005 which I bought new. I have since bought a Goldwing while still owning the VTX. I went through 3 starters switches before someone posted a fix for it online. I truly began to enjoy this bike once I ditched the horrible seat. My only wish is that it should of come from the factory with a fuel gauge.

I bought a 2014 honda 750 shadow aero, I really like it, I think it is fuel injection, honda carbs are reliable. The weight, 560, is the biggest difference I notice, as my other bike is a Suzuki s40. insurance rates jump where I live as soon as displacement exceeds 750, then 1100.
Bought my 2007 vtx 1300 for 2500 bucks and it had just over 2000 miles on it. Perfect condition.
My harley sits alot now lol. In fact I'm building a 2008 vt 750 bobber. Just to have something different. I love all motorcycles. A real enthusiast doesn't care about the brand.
I loved my vex!!! Very comfortable cruiser. I would recommend this bike to anyone.
I have the vtx 1800R .... downside you ask .... the only 1 I can give you is fuel range ..... tank is smaller capacity than the tank size might suggest and MPG isnt great so range is a bit crappy ... other than that super comfortable , tons of torque and more speed than I care to get out of it and I am not a small guy 6'1 -255 with a bad knee so running a trike kit on it as well ...
Why oh why does Honda not bring this bike back? I loved my 1300.
