Just a little tip regarding the MFDs
Both can be changed to the following
>Radar scope
>RwR
>Fwd facing camera with HUD displayed on it
>Situational awareness page (map)
>Digital flight instruments (consisting if a true air speed indicator, altimeter above sealevel, additude direction indicator and vertical speed)
Tim's Variety: The SMT is SLIGHTLY less maneuverable than the 9-13 and bleeds energy a TINY bit faster below 700 kph
Other UA-camrs: The SMT is a flying bathtub, the new flight model sucks balls and once you get below 700 kph it bleeds energy like a stuck pig

I'm looking forward to when the flight performance difference is only slight. The energy retention is legitimately horrid below 1000 IAS.
Didn't you know? If a jet isn't in the #1 spot in the entire game for energy-aoa turn rate, then its total garbage and basically a flying dumptruck. There is no middle ground, those are the only two options.
@@TimsVarietyto be fair... it is particularly bad. It'd be one thing if it just weren't #1 but still very competitive... but the F-4E beats it in a rate fight! a Phantom!! The excessive speed bleed is genuinely crippling...
@@_ace_defective_ I've seen a few people claim that - that the F-4E beats it - and I'm not sure where folks are hearing it, or like - what people are doing in the SMT to make that happen - but it hasn't been my experience in this jet at all.
@@TimsVariety I decided to look into it myself. I believe the claim was that the MiG-29SMT barely rates better than the F-4E, not that it was worse, so my mistake. But indeed the SMT averages out around 17 degrees/sec (F-4E did about 16). For comparison, the F-14B does about 20 and the F-16 ADF does about 22-23.
Rate speeds aren't everything; the SMT would probably just turn inside the F-4E. But that's an 11.0 jet that isn't that maneuverable. Against the other top tiers, the SMT unfortunately falls pretty far behind. Even if you do just a hard turn, the SMT loses a comparable amount of speed to an F-16A... without afterburner. It just loses so much speed, and it doesn't really seem to have the ability to point its nose the way the M2k does either. The MiG-29 9-13 did also get hit by the general FM changes but it bleeds maybe 2/3 as much speed as the SMT in comparison.
(Obviously, the plane isn't awful, but that speed bleed is a pretty noticeable drawback.)
Apparently the Russian love SPO-15 very much that even the current-generation SPO-32 have an optional display mode on the MFD that resemble the SPO-15.
Current r73 flies like it was force fed sedatives before launch
And also eats every single flare if not was launched from 0m distance so it is literally r-60 on steroids😂
Yeah it was nerfed on Dec server. It takes longer to move onto its thrust vector stages, but fixes the wobbling.
well I know one thing: between the 27ET and the 9M, both the SMT and the Block 50 are gonna dominate the hell out of sim
Tbh, if flown properly then BVR is the name of the game, flying the SMT at 5km alt or above using ERs renders you basically untouchable by most people except tomcats, mostly because noone clinbs to altitude
At 6km alt the ER gets almost 50km launch range. As for the 9M, well that'll only become an issue if you end up merging which is either the cause of loss of situational awareness or both pilots doing good enough in BVR to force the merge. And then the R-73 id you survive the stealth 9M in merge is still superior
@@kazline1455 Thing is, an aim9m can get a lock on an smt something like 7km out. You'd never even know that they fired on you in the headon and suddenly you just explode.

Although my experience so far fighting F-16Cs i usually had a merge where they didnt really launch anything or launched a sparrow that i managed to evade, ik sure my forehead will neet a 9M soon enough though ^-^"
@@Daakkii in my experience a 9M is worthless in a head-on, of all the times I fired a 9M in a head on I have never killed anyone
Dripped 15-3 on a team of missing yesterday. The aim9m is disgusting, especially if you use TWS to launch and never merge directly so people don't think you are shooting at them, they don't flare.
I’ll probably end up playing the F-16C more than this but I’m still grinding this one first to try out the R-73s and the ability to notch a target without losing lock
There will be updates where the MiG29 will get better flying performances tho. It's a game of back and forth.

It's 1000kg heavier then 9.13 and 1200kg heavier then 9.12. The MiG 29 flight model was also nerfed this patch. The F-4E will kick your teeth in if you're flying the MiG 29SMT. It's really bad. That said It's kit is great. I haven't unlocked it yet but I will be doing that today. In my experience playing the F-16C I've been able to turn my brain off and beat the crap out of MiG 29SMTs without much thought or skill.
UPDATE: I got the SMT and HOLY it is bricked. Fat. Bad. That said HOLY MOLY MAN. R-73s are stupid. So dumb. So incredibly busted. Better then 9Ms imo. That said 9Ms are still wild. The R-73s absolutely carry this plane.
So sad that the fulcrums received such a massive nerf
Yeah I've got it and it's flight performance is legitimately terrible, I don't doubt at all that the f4e will out rate you - the acceleration and energy retention are way worse then the earlier mig's and much more then it should be. And with the overall mig fm nerf and f16 buff now you can't even win a 1 circle fight against a f16 even at very low speed where it's advantage should be the highest and that is with a 9.13 let alone the SMT. Gaijin really did a number on them this patch.

Don't really comment on stuff but you do better work than 90% of the rest of the content creators for this game. Hopefully you start getting rewards for the work that is put in. Cheers for the pretty helpful information.
Personally think with the fuckery that is the 9M, the R73 could do with being as good as it was on the dev server. Still relatively consistent to flare if you knew what you were doing, but still punished you if you fucked up.

This is a significant buff, and addresses one of the primary criticisms of the plane I mentioned in the review.

5:08 my eyes are bleeding. From mach 1.24 to mach 0.95 with a single turn. Funny thing is probably even if you didn't use airbreak you were gonna lose that much speed anyway but having a worse turn.
Mig29s flight performance are compeltely messed up and it doesn't make any sense.
lets hope they add the upgraded engines in game soon.
I can see this possibly being foldered in the future. It's kind of a weird upgrade in terms of it's only upgraded in regards to the weapons it carries. Interesting mild buff to the R-27's pulling 35G's now.

They really butchered the MiG-29SMT's flight model. It's in such an awkward spot, being carried by its weapons rather than its flight performance. Either way, it doesn't stand a chance in a dogfight against most aircraft, just look at that insane speed bleed for not much gain! And it's really weird to say that about the MiG-29 of all planes, but here we are.

I'm finding better luck using the SMT's IRST in IR SRC mode to extend the range of the R-27ET. Seems more reliable than the missile's seeker for longer range shots

WHAT?! I love both of the in-game skins for this thing! Honestly, most Russian Air Force patterns are awesome in my opinion. I wouldn't use the Algerian one, but I don't think it looks bad.
The light-on-light just doesn't work for me. Especially pastels. At all.
@@TimsVariety I get the light-on-light, but the light on dark gray default skin looks great to me. Does on the 9.13 as well. I enjoy that gray pattern going all the way back to late-war Yak and La camos.
they need to buff the mig-29 R73s they can be flared pretty easily
For the people wondering, If you want the king for ARB go for the F16c. If you want an unique vehicule with unique missiles go for the SMT. You can redline it for a while, so you BnZ your way.
I feel like the SMT could be the very first Multirole jet that feels like a true "Jack of All Trades".
You want to go full ground pounding? It can do it
You want to go full anti air? It can do it
You want to destroy some air and some ground targets at the same time? It can do it too.
The thing is to avoid dogfightings and take a more cautious approach when it comes to air- to - air engagements, which it could be a let down for many.
Did the previous Mig29 ever use R-73? I would have thought so. Also as of today on the dev server, the Mig-29SMT will be able to equip an additional flare pod of 56 large countermeasures, bringing the total to over 100.

It would be cool if the Yak141 got the R73 and got move up to 12.3 too (yes I dont want to grind)
It can stay at this BR because it can only carry 4x missiles
With R-73 meta loadout would be 2x ER's and 2x R-73's... or exchange those for 2x R-27T's if you want more range at expense of flare resistance ( it got bigger FOV of 1.1ish maybe 1.33 compared to R-73's and Magic 2's 0.75 FOV )
Or if you want full stealth IR build

Yak should just stay at it's BR even with R-73... SMT can carry more of them so it's fine having bigger BR lol

For ground rb definitely. In sim it’s great but really in sim ideally you want bvr capability
Wished HMD wasnt bugged on console. You cant free look to get a lock with the IR missiles or the HMD PD to get a radar lock. Have to use your mouse aim cursor, like normal, or have to go in cockpit view to get it to work properly.
Also, I tried the new Kh TV guided missile and seems it's slightly bugged out. I made sure it wasn't my controls stepping over one another to get a proper lock on a vehicle, and once you lock an area, hard to unlock that area and lock up a different area unless you unselect the Kh missile and re-select it in weapon selection mode. If it's a bug, hope they fix that too as the Kh missile would be great to use in TRB against SPAA
My hmd works fine in free look. I use mouse look activation in the common menu to free look, mabye that will work if you don’t already use that
I was about to grind that but after seeing the change in Mig29 flight model change, I hop in my F16 and get the F16C instead. Once I got bored I ll go for the SMT but not till it gets better. The roll performance of Mig29 is in my opinion terrible. The armament rocks though.

Right as I am about to unlock mig29 they nerf them to shit. Flying bricks they are now. They needed a nerf I am not arguing that, pulling 15 g was ridiculous. But now they struggle to pull 9.

Bigger Airframe + Bigger Fuel tanks = worse speed, maneuverability, and turn rate. So, everything perfectly makes sense and balanced

except that while the F-16's FM got a massive buff, the MiG-29's FM was nerfed and loses far too much speed in turns, so every F-16 now stomps every 29 in a dogfight

The small difference in weight and absolutely minuscule difference in drag does not actually correlate to the current massive difference in fm between the SMT and earlier mig's. SMT does legitimately feel like a brick not even compared to the other 29's but also to every top tier vehicle I have(I would equate how it feels to the F4C in a dogfight outside of a single energy turn you can get at 800km IAS). Even the nose authority is worse then 9.12/13 despite the SMT being able to actually pull more AoA then them irl. I'm looking forward to when the fm does actually make sense and is balanced.

R73 is the best it missile for dogfighting by far. Definitely not the outright best, mind you.
I just can't get excited to grind another 300k for the chance to grind better missiles. They need to adjust top tier RP, takes too long and I am le bored.
R73 just isnt as strong as aim9m...they need to rework its IRCCM because one flare and you're done....

Aim9M is easily dodgeable (flare 1 time then turn hard and fast, it will stop track you) MEANWHILE R73 Has fcking 40G and thrust vectoring and have very good flare resistance

the aim 9M is a better missle still hits often on head ons even if they flare and almost always kills if you shoot it from behind plus no missle trail the r73 loses track alot if not most of the times with 1 flare even shot from behind and they dont even cut burners atm the mig 29 SMT is a garbage plane compared to the F16C
Its garbage only thing good is the missles you will lose most if not all dogfights
