    This is so funny. After living abroad for 17 years, I have to practice to retain my Afrikaans accent. I normally warm up with : "I park my car in the carpark" followed by " I are wearing a jean trousers!" I love my accent! So do the French, Italians and many others! So, my maat, praat daai taal en as jy moet Engles praat praat fit met 'n Afrikaanse aksent!

    Darren Simpson's only mistake was failing to include a little guide, and it is this little skit's intention wasn't intended to undermine anybody, whether that being English or Afrikaans, the only purpose was to bring the little bit of a humor in our every day gray world and to make us smile, and forget about all our hardships for the moment or two. I am sure he loves us all, all we need to do is to try little bit harder to understand and respect each other. It isn't that difficult, let us try :)

    Saw an academic present a paper last week who sounded JUST like this even though he was a total genius. I lost count of the number of times he said "wiff". His paper was WAY over my head but he sounded like he was just off the farm. So funny.

  • @jamesgunnels6766
    @jamesgunnels6766 10 років тому +2

    Okay...sadly, some of this is definitely true. I am NOT Afrikaans, however, I have Afrikaans family, and my cousin Gerdes sometimes slips and says certain things like "wiff" instead of with. Have a sense of humor and make fun of yourself sometimes, it's funny! I know Afrikaners who find this hysterical.

    Afrikaners often get person confused, probably because there is no 'person' in Afrikaans grammar...ek is, jy is, hy is, ons is etc. It does make for some amusingly tortured English. But, hey, you know what they mean. (And how good is this guy's Afrikaans? Just wondering...)

    Hehe
    I've often been laughed at by my Afrikaans friends when I try to speak their language, so I feel nothing for giving it back just as much.
    What I feel is unfortunate is the fact that most Afrikaners are mixing their language with English to the extent of really cheapening Afrikaans. Is this somehow supposed to sound fashionable? It just sounds stupid to me.
