Congratulation Nate, I have been following your show for the last two years. I am currently restoring a 1967 Camaro in Australia for the last 4 years, so I can appreciate the blood sweat and tears you have put into your Firebird. Looking forward to the finish product.

Thanks for following along buddy! We know that only those of us that have actually restored a car have any clue as to how much effort and determination it takes. But I can tell ya that seeing paint on this thing is unbelievable. I see it now and still kinda have trouble believing that this is the same car. Such a cool feeling. Keep on rockin it out man. 12:49 That's before wet sanding and buffing!? When I had my car painted i had horrible orange peel. But we also used PPG Omni MC260 and the painter put down 9 coats of paint in 12 hours (Primer, Base, 4 coats of candy, 1 coat of clear with metal flake and 2 coats of clear). She's currently in the shop getting all her leaks fixed, but they are making sure everything is pristine inside her to match the outside. I can't believe how often I get pulled over just so they can check her out. BTW, She's a 1991 Nissan 300ZX TT painted Blood red candy apple with fire red metal flake .004 && .008 with a "rose gold" base (I say "rose gold" because we originally were going with a gold base and didn't have enough, to the painter mixed up some silver with a bit of G7C Red Hot and it created a rose gold). The black pieces are painted in BMW Jet Black 668. I've shown up to a few classic car shows and I confuse the shit out of the gate attendant. Usually i just go park with the rest of the people showing up for the car shows, once was mistakenly let in, and 2 times I had to move my car inside the car show because it was causing too much of a disturbance 😎😂 If I put together a montage of the start to finish I'll post a link.

Yours was the first video where you had paint cups mixed in advance. Had not occurred to me, but makes perfect sense. I will do the same with the HF Spectrum system. That merlot looks great full scale. I seen that color on their speed shape and thought it looked ok when I was thinking about getting their black Cherry. I stumbled upon a recipe for a nice black cherry that doesn’t look purplish in certain light/angles, so decided not to go with UreChem for my current project. Anyway, great job on your project that color looks killer in the light.

@@HeavyPedalGarage Your color looks good, I was only talking about not liking purple in black cherry colors. I understand the actual black cherry fruit has a bit of a purple look naturally but most black cherry paints look a bit muddy to me. In that Merlot it looks like the colors are crisp and come through fine. The black cherry I made is 2 parts black, 1 part intercoat/carrier and then whatever preferred red pearl powder. Depending on the pearl it could be 3-4 grams per unreduced gallon. It comes out with only having bright, brilliant red in the highlights in the direction of light. Everything thing else is black. Hi, from me in the UK. Nice job and I appreciate your honesty. Not a lot of people tell the tale. But personally, I would have noticed all the imperfections from guide coat and blocking stage. Or the light scratch you could have put some red glaze 2K and puff some Merlot over the top of the wing and just blend it in.
Dude, I would have donated a Devilbiss or Iwata from my collection so you would have a nice gun to shoot with. Beginners error for the first coat of clear: always a very light tack coat. Unless the soecsheet stated a full 2 wet on wet coats with no flash off in between. There are clears which are applied like that or clears which can be sanded and buffed after a 30 minute bake cycle. But allowing the clear to naturaalr dry out is the best way. Let it sit. How many coats of clear? 2. Not enough man. Sand with 600, rectify all the sags, runs, defects and re ask, blow off, panel wipe, clean, clean and flow coat with 3 coat of a decent UV clear. Grant 7 nice, All wet Kandy nice, Here in the UK....they are not available. So I use Mipa, or Standox, PPG, Lechler, Liquid Glass my favourite or Glasurit... But ouch the last 2 hurt price wise. Unless the. Customer is paying... And it needs a decent gun... If you still want I can send you one from my spray gun collection of 28. But these guns are Cannons and you need to move fast otherwise there will be more runs than in a marathon race!!!

I absolutely love all of this advice!!! I definitely learned some lessons on this job and am looking forward to the next one. I did shoot 4 coats of clear.
