you answered every question I had concerning this color blend,i'm doing a restoration on a old Chrysler and the customer wants this color, your work looks fine, thank you
Thank you for a video on painting with pearl paints. While I use an airbrush for models this video is very helpful. I have been painting the model I have been working on a pearl white, but it has come out in a silver like color in many areas. Now I understand that a white base coat is needed first than the pearl coat.
I know this is an old video, but I resprayed a front bumper cover on my 30 year old pearl white Audi a few years ago. I did all the right things, did some test cards w/different amounts of pearl to get a good match and all. Got something I was happy with, went to spray the bumper, and it came out so obviously different than the rest of the car. I was mad, but I decided to live with it and it's still like that to this day. Someday maybe I'll respray the entire car (probably not, haha).
Most important on pearl white is making the halo dissapear.i get coverage with my base than mix base and pearl about 4 to 1. 4 being the pearl and 1 the base than blend it out till theirs no halo.havent had this method fail yet.great videos by the way!!
Enjoy your videos, good presentation. Clear, concise instructions with great delivery. Not a complete newb but I will take any and all help I can get. Thanks for the videos.

Great work, but I would prefer that make a mix of the base and pearl,20% base and 80% pearl ,then blend ,and after that make the pearl coat, this much better and you will not notice the the blend area, because after 2 coats of pearl,I still notice the blend area👍🏻

The easy way is to pick one colour and spray all parts equally. How should I proceed from one original part and deternine colour from that? Are the pearls going to interfere with a colour scanner? Hi Brian, let me first thank you for all your efforts. Your videos are all very informative. I am a designer engineer and DIYer and I really enjoy the details level in your videos. I am learning to get ready for spraying quarter panel on my car. It’s a black pearl Jaguar and I live in the UK. You mentioned in the video that pearl is translucent but when I search for my car paint code (PEL), they all results are black paints with pearl particles. Does it mean I need more coats or I need the same paint with and without pearls? I am also struggling to find a clear basecoat. Any idea about other keywords? My last question is that for a black pearl, do I need to blend or it’s not necessary for darker colours? Many thanks
Hi mate great informative video I just wanted to get a better understanding of the pearl application if you could tell me if I'm correct this would help massively After primer prep it's 2 coats of base coat (checking coverage) 2 coats of pearl 4" further towards blend area 1 pearl drop coat over the other pearl 2 clear coats Thanks
Great content! I've done body work for yrs and have gotten into the PDR world in last last few years. Now that I'm more comfy with what you can repair prior to sanding.. this channel inspired me to take on bigger jobs that do have cracked or damaged paint. I've painted a few cars.. but a lot of newer cars always seem to have a metallic or pearl that I've always steered clear from trying to duplicate! You make it look easy!! I believe with all my experience in the bodywork scene. I can and will start to take on smaller paint repair work along with my PDR expanding my client base instead of referring it out. EXCELLENT START TO FINISH! Great explanation on everything you do and why you do it.. SUBSCRIBED#....#START-F1N1$H!
Justin. Your subscription to my channel means a lot to me. With the proper PDR skills you are way ahead of the game compared to other techs in the field. Just by being able to push out the dent from behind the panel will save you so much more time when it comes to bodywork. When it comes to paint, as long as you have the right paint match from a good paint brand, painting becomes very easy.
Beautiful job as always! This is a paint video for dummies though, of which I admit to being (with painting). What did you spray on the bumper from an aerosol can and why? Thanks
Hy Brian! Awesome channel! I wish as a DIY guy I have that painting System to correct the mixed paint color... It would be nice to buy some base colors to make it match better. Should be a DIY mini kit for that! Keep it up mate! Cheers from Hungary
Great video Brian! When it comes to cleaning your booth, what do you do and how often. I vacuum and blow mine daily, no chance tape would stick to the floor though lol
Thank you so much for your videos, I did my first paint job, not the best, but I felt confident going into it thanks to your videos and tips. I have to get rid of a ton of orange peel but the pearl looks amazing! I went with a Nissan QAB Pearl on my WRX.
Great video , again😂, Brian, I am going to be starting to paint my 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 club cab, It’s a maroon color and I already did my hood by following your advise and it came out fabulous! Now I ‘m going to start with top cab top. Is there anyway I can send you a picture of it and have you tell me the different steps? Example might be, in one video you used a roller to put on a base to cover up any bare spots, The top is in bad shape and I’m not sure how far it needs to be taken down. The hood I got from the pick and Pull was in pretty good shape meaning not all the clear coat was gone but I did remove it all and did a primer over all of it then sanded it down and then tack and base coat then 2 layers of clear coat. So, another question might be, When is a Pearl used?
I love your video, I’ve been learning a lot from you. I have one question, how would I blend it to the doors, would I lay base coat and the mid coat half way of the door ?
Gorgeous work, but EYE PROTECTION should be worn while spraying! Also, I would recommend a moving quilt or other padding be used under front of vehicle, when remounting bumper cover. I'd hate to see great paint work accidentally damaged if the cover came in contact with the concrete!
Very good job. I have a pearl white job to do on 2015 honda grace, first I'm gonna be spraying pearl white, so I'm doing a little research to equip myself. Your video has taught me few things. My question is, how do you mix the pearl? Is it same reducer and or hardener?
Hi great work and video. I bought new truck wanting to learn to paint pearl star white AZ on plastic pieces. What is best way to paint match and what materials do I need? I know you have to spray a adhesion promoter, primer, base, top coat pearl and clear. How long of time between coats etc. Do I use activator or not. Thks
I sprayed some pearl back in the 80's but never a touch up job and I sprayed the pearl between color and clear I mixed it in just some reducer and dusted it over the paint job so that I didn't get tiger stripes in the finish
@@PaintSociety have you ever sprayed a cobweb finish we use to take straight Lacquer paint put it in a cup unreduced turn the air pressure up to full stand back about 1.5-2 feet from what ever you want to spray and just squeeze the trigger it comes out of the gun stringy then just clear coat it
@@timgiesin4025 I had a 70 Plymouth GTX back in the day, someone had done some of that in the hood scoop area. It was pretty wild looking, thank you Tim for bringing back the memories.
Great video! Just found your channel! Quick question...I'm working on fixing rock chips on a old Lexus that has white pearl paint. You used a white primer (which I'll try to find), but for the base coat being a white pearl, do they just use straight white or will the manufacturer use a specific white that's a custom shade of white? I have some of the pearl top coat left over from having a bumper sprayed, but trying to figure out what I need to put down prior to the pearl coat and if I need to figure out a way to source a specific white shade or if just "white" is all I need. Thanks for taking the time to make all these great videos!
Hey there. I have a car that was supposed to be painted this Eminent White Pearl Lexus color, but did not turn out quite the right pearl effect. I am planning on repainting myself and was hoping you could help me with recommended products and mixes for this color? Again, very new and great video - would just love any secrets you're willing to share. Thank you.
G'day Brian!! Discovered your channel yesterday and quickly subscribed. You have an exceptional teaching style, makes it so much easier to learn a topic which can sometimes seem a bit intimidating. But like you say, "it's only paint", right!? ;) Quick question for you please mate... I'm getting close to spraying my Kawasaki ZX11 with a toyota colour called "Dark Furnace". it's like a deep dark slightly metallic maroon colour. looks black in the dark. My question is, i have some Red Wine pearl powder which i wanted to add, but i dont particularly want to do a full pearl metallic look in the clear over base. Can i add some pearl to the base colour to enhance its depth or redness etc? can that make it just "pop" a little more? 🤔🤞 And yes, definitely going to do a 'slow' clear over top, as its extremely humid here in Oz.
You might be able to enhance the depth of the color a little but i would Recommend testing it out on a junk spray panel or spray out card First to see what it looks like. You don’t want to dirty up the color too much with too much powder
Great video. So, I'm putting pearl over urethane basecoat white and want to add pearl. Is there a particular white pearl I need to use? Is it premixed or do I need to add it to something. Thanks
I’m in the process of needing to learn pearl coat for a repair job. This was very helpful. Does it work just as well to shoot the base on top of sealer and then pearl?
Great info for the newbie.... I did notice you used a arosol blender over the clear on the bumper ..you didnt speak about it in the video... maybe you give a quick over view on blenders next time you use it.. Question, have you used blender on the edges with a sealer when you transition on to a panel...it works great. Gives a smooth nice nice nice transition.
Yes I did. I wanted to keep this video very straight to the point. Each video I want to keep detailed in regards to the title to stay in track. I did use an aerosol and I blended the clear on the bottom. In regards to sealer you can put a wet bed down first where your sealer dry spray will land and while the wet bed is still wet, spray your sealer. Then come over it with blender to smooth out the edge. Sometimes though you will need a little 800-1000 over that edge once it dries.
Hi there, appreciate your vids very much, even the at home family stuff;-) Question about spraying solid white (I use a acrylic because it's easier to manage in a home environment). I have surfacers of various light colors, blues mainly, and I'm wondering if I will get good coverage with my white color coat. I tend to usel multiple light acrylic coats 4-5, then a heavy final coat. Your thoughts on coverage?
Thank you for these videos. Have been watching several to learn as I am about to paint a 78 ford truck as my first paint job. Am wanting to do pearl white so we will see how it turns out. I have been recommended PPG, is there another brand around same price maybe a little cheaper that you would recommend? Plan to get a panel from a yard to practice prepping as well as painting before I go after the whole truck. You’re videos have definitely taught me a lot
So I recently bought a 2019 Infiniti Q60 and I somehow overlooked a spot on the passenger side fender, dead center with the the wheel well. To me it looks like they were doing some scratch repair and completely forgot to finish this one spot 😂. So that kinda made me not feel as bad for not seeing it when I bought the car bc they missed it too lol. But they sanded down to the base white and I’m wondering what I need to pick up to fix it myself. I measured the spot and it’s pretty much 6 in x 3 in. All I would need is the colorcoat and clear right? Appreciate by the way 👍🏼.

When it comes to paint, as long as you have the right paint match from a good paint brand, painting becomes very easy.
Beautiful job as always! This is a paint video for dummies though, of which I admit to being (with painting). What did you spray on the bumper from an aerosol can and why? Thanks
Thanks a lot, i have a pearl project coming in tomorrow.
Good luck!!
Loved watching ! I had to LOL my ass off - So I watched amateurs use Rust-Oleum paint with Foam Rollers LOLOL _ All good :)
Excellent! Thanks for the tips
Hopefully they help. Thanks for the view !
Hy Brian! Awesome channel! I wish as a DIY guy I have that painting System to correct the mixed paint color... It would be nice to buy some base colors to make it match better. Should be a DIY mini kit for that! Keep it up mate! Cheers from Hungary
I remember those days in depending on the paint shop to match your color. It can be tough.
Needed this about to blend my first tri coat saturday 😂😂
Hope it goes well!!
Wonderful sharing
Thks
Well to be honest you work professionally you’re awesome at painting 🔥 😎 keep making great content.
Swagga, good video as always
I sprayed some pearl back in the 80's but never a touch up job and I sprayed the pearl between color and clear I mixed it in just some reducer and dusted it over the paint job so that I didn't get tiger stripes in the finish
That helps.
@@PaintSociety have you ever sprayed a cobweb finish we use to take straight Lacquer paint put it in a cup unreduced turn the air pressure up to full stand back about 1.5-2 feet from what ever you want to spray and just squeeze the trigger it comes out of the gun stringy then just clear coat it
Tim Giesin never! Sounds insane. I would love to see that
@@timgiesin4025 I had a 70 Plymouth GTX back in the day, someone had done some of that in the hood scoop area.
Looks like the trim above the hood was a totally diffent color on the final reveal
It’s a brand new car and has white plastic on it
@@PaintSociety LOL I was like how did that happen fender hood looked good then I was what the heck
Tony's DIY Vehicle Flips & Rebuilds Tennessee haha yes. These new cars become loaners if they are damaged. But yea I see how that threw you off
Thank you.
Very well done, pro job.
G'day Brian!! Discovered your channel yesterday and quickly subscribed. You have an exceptional teaching style, makes it so much easier to learn a topic which can sometimes seem a bit intimidating. But like you say, "it's only paint", right!? ;)
Quick question for you please mate... 🤔🤞
And yes, definitely going to do a 'slow' clear over top, as its extremely humid here in Oz.
You might be able to enhance the depth of the color a little but i would
Recommend testing it out on a junk spray panel or spray out card First to see what it looks like. You don’t want to dirty up the color too much with too much powder
I just layed down some white pearl solids on a guitar that's getting black pearl next tiger stripes
Great instruction video. What’s the range that a shop would typically charge for a pearl paint repaint like that?
Great video. So, I'm putting pearl over urethane basecoat white and want to add pearl. Is there a particular white pearl I need to use? Is it premixed or do I need to add it to something. Thanks
Buying paint tomorrow for a pearl white Lexus blend never blended or sprayed pearl. I need this!!!!
Good luck!
I’m in the process of needing to learn pearl coat for a repair job. This was very helpful.
Does it work just as well to shoot the base on top of sealer and then pearl?
Great great job keep going
Your thoughts on coverage?
you doing great jobs, did you ever considered using water-born base?
Excellent. I Keep learning of a pros
Nice work.
Thank you for the effort!
Stay tuned!
