400 million! To put this into a perspective, Sony could have made 10+ Astro Bot budget type games for the cost of ONE Concord. 🤡
And they'd *_still_* have enough money left over to throw a party to celebrate the fact that they didn't make Concord.
And the sad reality is that is what they did during the ps2 / ps3 era with all of the movie tie in games and their old IPs, where is Sly Cooper, Little Big Planet, Ape Escape, Infamous, Jak and Daxter, and many of the movie tie in games that I’m guessing they used to help advertise and publish back in the day, it’s just dead with no games, instead they are focusing on games that have a massive ass budget instead of delivering a good library that makes you want to buy the thing, I’m still on PC and I have little to no reason to buy a ps5.

@@jokered1133 Yeah and make no mistake some of Sony's big AAA single player huge budget games like Spiderman, Ghost of Tsushima, God of War, Horizon... They do sell good, Astro Bot sells great as well but will never break these numbers however Astro Bot or similar games would also cost much, much less to produce. If I was Sony I would fund both types of games because these big blockbuster titles take way too long to be made, in between you could easily sprinkle a new Apex Escape, a new Sly, a new Jak and Dexter, LocoRoco, Gravity Rush, Folklore... And you would have 1st party releases through every single year, this generation is so dry when it comes to games because these games take a whole console generation to be made.
I hope Sony does my suggestion, it would definitely help them with game output, smaller budgets, smaller teams, shorter deadlines, focused project, clear vision and there we go.
It was 3,000 copies sold. There's numerical evidence. 750 max player on steam. Double that, 1,500 copies. (Not everyone plays at the same time.)
Playstation. 98% of concord players had the first trophy. And 1,400 people had it on the closure announcement date. So... maybe add 100 to round up. 3,000 copies total.

We could have had either a Legend of Dragoon Remaster, a Prequel of Dragoon based on the Dragon Campaign 11,000 years before the LoD, or even a sequel. But Sony is more interested in virtue signaling than giving a known fan base what they want.

And this in combination with the fact that Sony won the fight/war against X-Box with the PS5 makes them self confident enough to make this prices. Cutting off the game only ten days of a life cycle is telling when they didn't see the profits it wasn't making the 3 days of its launch.

Thing is, any competent dev that would have seen the writing on the wall would have quit the studio long before it released.

Give me a 4'th of that with less than a 4'th of the amount of staffing and I could make a movie that might actually sell. I'm a complete amateur so if it still flops I at least have an excuse. Sometimes I think part of the reason that these projects fail so hard is because the budget is so huge. It gives the devs a 'throw money at the problem' attitude. Granted, the people in charge are probably the biggest portion of why it failed.

The studio is in Seattle, the 8th most expensive city to live in. And I’m sure their hiring practices, are all DEI compliant, it takes 10 dei hires to do the work of one qualified employee. Plus overblown salaries, for that “living wage” we here so much about. Also I do believe Seattle made minimum wage like 25$ an hour.
200M already spent by early 2023, then 200M extra between then and release date spent on the studio and outsourcing to get it out the door as a "minimum viable product."
I calculated it: 437.5 devs for 8 years, 100k per year per dev - including all costs to the company, $50M for marketing.
The future of Playstation is bankruptcy if they follow the Concord formula. 🙄

All these studios getting slammed a number of years ago for "frat boy" culture. You know what happens in frat style culture? They tell each other that something is shit to their faces and everyone there hears it, arguments ensue and an agreement is met there and then. None of this "we need to have a meeting to discuss when to have a meeting about where a pimple goes on this one characters face that no one is ever going to notice".
That last part of your comment is so on point with so many institutions. My girlfriend is a director at a college and they'll have 5 meetings before the main meeting to discuss the color of the drapes in the auditorium.
