Fun fact: you can hack anything to explode if you put C4 in it during manufacturing!
No kidding. I can't believe there are people that can't figure out this is what happened.
Meaning that Israel had them manufactured to have c4 in them?
American taxpayer's money in good use!
It wasn't c4 but another explosive
My first thought was that the phone/pager/whatever operating system was hacked causing huge battery drain (or a loop of data or something) to cause the battery to get super hot and explode. My second thought was that during manufacturing (or post-manufacture but before the shipment was received to the targets) C4 was placed inside, with a fuse/trigger.
Every consumer grade device you can wear on your body containing a lithium battery has a battery controller to protect it and you, it does not just dead short.
It also doesn't really explode like a bomb, especially with a tiny pager battery
they dont explode like that anyway. you can watch videos of them exploding
That doesn't matter if the device has been remotely compromised by a malicious actor.

tbf "new" tech is just old tech with a GUI on it.
Because you can't track old tech like that apparently.
You can't explode a battery like that. Its definitely explosives.
The devices didn't use lithium batteries they use standard AAA batteries.
Pagers can use both, not disputing the explosives part, just saying
I think even actual li ion battery incidents are more fiery. Those pagers just went 'Bang!'
well there are some lithium ion single use AAA and AAAA and other type of sigle use lithium batterys actly if you live in the usa. theya re just non-rechargable versions that are used to power your remote for your DVR or tv remote soehting like that.
Yea if batteries has the capabilities to explode they'll be banned from airports ( which is a new nightmare to deal with from this situation)

Aiden Pearce: "Yes"
That’s exactly who I was thinking of when I first heard this story! I find it crazy that they legitimately took that straight out of Watch Dogs and applied it real life!
Fun fact: Siemens is a German company. In German, "ie" is almost always pronounced as a long "i" sound (the one that's often written as "ee" in English). So you do in fact pronounce "Siemens" quite similar to "semens" with only a small difference in the sound of the second "e".
Edit: So, I looked up the pronunciations of both words. "Siemens" is [ˈziːmɛns] or [ˈziːməns] but I have never heard the latter version in my life. "Semens" is /ˈsiːməns/. So "Siemens" starts with a voiced consonant like "zero", "semens" with a voiceless one like in "sink" (I guess the stress on the "s" makes it sound a bit more voiced than it actually is). The rest of the word is the same in the second "Siemens" procunciation. The first one does differ at the "e" (ɛ and ə). Here, the sound in "Siemens" is the same as in "wet", the sound in "semens" and the second pronunciation of "Siemens" is similar to the second "a" in balance.
Pretty sure the S would be pronounced more like how English pronounces Z, wouldn't it?
Za Chermans pronounce Siemens as "ZEEE-menz"
How muta pronounced it at first is quite accurate, so not really a z.
What like spunk ?
Small correction, i guess you could say its a z. Though germans or Dutch people would not really think of it as z. Videos of "Siemens in German" will give you a sample

@@NoppyOwO US could easily reduce the army's size and use the money to better lives of it's citizens but nah.
Experts are saying the pagers were booby trapped by re-engineering to accommodate a few grams of stable explosive and a remote detonation feature (possibly by causing the battery to overheat igniting the explosive).
2024: pagers exploding
2044: brain chips exploding
Simple answer is no unless you add explosives yourself. A lithium ion battery of that size has a LOW chance of seriously harming you and even less of a chance of it being fatal
either way, the reports that hundreds or thousands of devices were detonated SIMULTANEOUSLY is unprecidented and crazy
I think "simultaneously" in this context probably means "all occurring within a short window of time" and not "all at the exact same time." Not that it makes the attack any more unbelievable!
They put explosives in the pagers. The only "hack" they might've done designing the device to send pager notifications alongside the explosion.
So that the victim would grab the pager and bring it closer to vital spots as it explodes
14:00 a pacemaker packed with C4 would be diabolical... And also give a new meaning to skipping a beat
Now, I'm not a tech expert, but to me a pager or exploding batteries def sound more like sabotage somewhere along production line than a code. It just...seems easier to do? Like, get in a production line or get ahold of some shippment and just replace some of the products with a fake/booby-trapped one. It's also easier, imo, to like write off and hide? Because, after all when we have mass production there WILL be some product that is faulty or doesn't work. We even have a thing called 'return policy' or/and refunds for things that just end up not working and the producer/manufacturer being at fault. and idk, I also think it's more difficult to detect. Because the switch could happen at almost ANY stage of production or delivery. Plus a lot of people handle packages and products and machines, and they also wear gloves for a lot of it. so finding THE individual who did things is not easy because you might not have any physical evidence to tie them to it.
Thank you for covering this! Everyone I know is looking at their cell phones side-eye and I'm not even sure how nervous to be.

Hey, this is reality.

I was still communicating with people using pagers about two years ago, people were still using them. Crazy to think they would be too.
At least for eldest son you had to pull the trigger of a firearm to receive the surprise. No one was just grocery shopping with their ak and accidentally popped a round off and indirectly killed/ maimed some children because their gun exploded.
What I’m saying is the circumstances required for those tampered rounds to explode inherently mitigates the possibility of civilian casualties. Like good luck getting any civilian to stand next to your ak while you’re in a firefight.
Don’t mind me just argument proofing here~
yes it’s possible a civilian could pick up a rifle to practice shoot or smth, but stacking the odds of 1 that happening and 2 they get the one round in a whole crate bullet that explodes it’s significantly less likely than any of 4000-5000 people being in public at 3 pm on a Tuesday
The Japanese company that made the pagers have released a video a basically saying they stopped producing those for almost 10 years, they are missing the verification sticker, and are going to be investigating it.

Change Supply chain with Food Chain. Back in 1982 Tylenol suffered a supply chain attack. Yes it was crude but its why every thing you buy has a seal of some sort on it.
Wasn't that done to kill one person, and the sabotor did it to not be seen as the suspect. Like the pixie sticks
No one was ever charged in the 7 deaths. The only person of interest was James Lewis who spent 12 years in prison for sending J&J a million dollar extortion letter. Public opinion for all involved is he most likely did it. The person did some pretty heinous things in his life and is best forgotten about.
That's still just a supply chain, a food chain is an ecological term.
Food Supply Chain. If we want to talk about MRP vs CBP, ERP, ATP, silo vs horizontal, and farm to plate controls.
@@hexenhammer483 Also doesn't really apply to Tylenol, though...
Muta's not starting this one off with a clap and a laugh, so I can only assume the answer is "yes".
Lithium batteries do not explode
They catch on fire, this is VERY noticeable before any explosion risk becomes apparent and not instant as you will feel it heating up
Add that many of these pagers run of basic batteries too...
Fun fact: This is why I take things apart to see what's inside.
The only way you could get close to having a device explode is for the malware to overclock the components. Maybe in rare cases it might cause the battery to explode from the heat, but before it got to that point, the person would absolutely know something was wrong with their device since it would be getting too hot to even touch.
when your Army doesn't have boundary, it can do anything (USS Liberty 1967)
Intercept, infuse, implant, and then improvise a plan because if you don’t detonate them they’ll probably be found sooner than later.
wireless charging is such a luxury, most poor people cant even afford devices with such technology!

the news got me scared about my phone. thank you for this video i really trust you
You pronounced "Siemens" the correct way the first time. I work on Siemens equipment. Haha.
EV vehicle engineer here, I need to clarify some points:
1. After some research it appears that the exact model of Pager uses AAA batteries (which are way more stable and resistant to short circuits, heat and punctures).
2. The most plausible theory is that the initial shipment of equipment was intercepted between the supplier and HizbAllah, where the devices could have been tampered with.
3. The CIA (or your friendly local agency) can easily spy on you but they can't direct an energy/heat gun towards your phone to make it explode. The cost in time, people and energy wouldn't make sense (a ground invasion would make more sense)
Muta……you better hope the FBI never sees that title lmao
I've watched so much stuff about chemicals and explosives lately and I am probably on a watch list by now. I totally blame Muta.

Hezbol doesn't go through airport security in Lebanon or probably anywhere else in that country. So we can't really make assumptions and how deductible this would be in America
They don't go through any security at 3 different points of the Mexico border, either.
In every sense of the word it was an act of terrorism. If the attacker/defender roles were reversed this week then every single media outlet would be calling it terrorism. It was an attack that was uncontrolled, had no way of preventing civilian casualties, and was designed to cause fear and doubt amongst the population. That's the textbook definition of terrorism.
LOUDER 🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️
If one of these had been on a plane at the time *hit would have hit the fan. Whoever did this was unbelievably irresponsible.
What civilians are being handed militant-use pagers and walkie-talkies? This is no different than precision striking combatants. You actually know nothing about war and the real world if you think civilian casualties are easy to avoid.
What fear was intended to be sent into the population? They waited for Hezbollah to distribute it and then played a fake message from command before detonating it, meaning obviously any militants wouldn't be blaring their commands out for the general public and would be more likely to be alone at the time of detonation.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah and their allies have been indiscriminately bombing places like Golan. I think firing missiles indiscriminately is way more dangerous and terrifying to the public than sabotaging a bunch of military-issue comms devices to blow up.
Nobody talks about how a Hezbollah missile strike killed 12 children after it landed on a soccer field, but you're having a cow that someone sabotaged military equipment?
Right, if the roles were reversed it would be called terrorism because they are literally a terrorist group.
The definition of terrorism is to strike fear into the people, targeting everyone including civilians. Hizballah does not give these out to civilians. The explosive range of these means someone would have to be actively touching them to get really hurt.
From what I have seen so far about 15 civilians / 3000 explosions were hurt. Which is a really good number compared to other methods.
It's hard to play fair when the opponent isn't
They are at war what do you expect? People die both sides in every war

Tylenol is a good example of a physically harmful supply chain attack
Holy fuck guys my country is literally digging itself into shit. I really hope the involved lebanese party(idk if you can say their name on youtube) won't try to do any retaliation on hungary beacuse our national security and army/police forces are just too weak to handle literally anything, let alone a whole attack on hungary in any way.
It’s not a party it’s a worldwide recognised terrorist organisation and no, hezbollah will not do anything about hungary because hungary has nothing to do with this
They don't care for you,
I'm sorry you are in the middle of this.
Yeah, because Isreal definitely isn't at the forefront of this, quit fear mongering.
You gotta remember the fact that the timing it was detonated was at the most busy time for people being outside, with the pagers beeping before blowing up
And then the media has the audacity to call kids who were killed collateral damage
Disclaimer: the affected people are not all militants, many civilians have been injured, including one child that actually died.
5 children
No, that cant be. If israel said they're militant it must be true, believe them!
Well, yeah. That’s what happens in every war ever.
War never changes
yeah almost like its war... 99% of them were terrorists thats the point i think... its like hezbollah launching 100-200 rockets per day... some hit soldiers yea.. but most hit innocents cvillains... just a month ago hezbollah hit a playground killing 15 kids... this is war this is why it sucks russia ukraine gaza israel syria no matter which one you think about in the end of the day those who suffer the most are the innocents civilians that just want to live a normal peacfull life... but i do look down upon the fact that so many making it seem like a bad move from israel.. in the end they targetred terrorists... dont make it seems like its not the case

If mythbusters was still around this topic would make a great episode
The pagers were with civilians, including hospitals, like the American University in Beirut' hospital that changed them out 2 weeks prior to the attack, a lot of hospitals were affected since it's very common to use those devices by doctors and nurses
And it snot just pagers, walkie talkies, solar equipment, and even finger print machines that record work attendance in offices
Right, they targeted members of Hezbollah that served outside of the military like healthcare administration and so forth. It's ridiculous because if any other country did this, it would be decried as a terrorist attack on every newspaper in the United States on the front page. The US press in particular uses the most passive language when covering crimes committed by Israel
