I'm glad to watch this. After giving up on 'The Acolyte,' and 'Rings of Power' ... inwardly groaning at these cringe highlights is the best way to enjoy geek pop culture... ...What a tragic state of nerd life...
I don't understand how is this show related to the MCU, with its superheroes stories. Just like with The Acolyte, when they wrote a story unrelated in any way to Star Wars that nobody would have touched without that logo, nobody would have go near a mid witches show without the Marvel label.
My theory is that after they saw the profits from Endgame, they believe they have solidified their fanbase and that anything they make will be profitable as long as it has the Marvel's label on it.
They heard Agatha Harkness and witch and decided to make utter garbage that doesn't resemble the character whatsoever. So pretty standard for Hollywood, I suppose.
15:23 I think that is only explained in episode 2, so it makes sense the Drinker wouldn't know it. She is "driving" on a chair in her living room. Basically she hallucinated a lot in that first episode.
Look, I'm a 40+ female nerd. I am their target demographic. I dont want this. My 40+ female nerd friends don't want this. See, their target demographic, women like me, are not consumers anymore. Middle aged women do not have time, patience, or money to invest in new characters like this. I have other shows to watch. And kids, a full time job, home responsibilities etc. If I do watch a movie or show, I need to sit and watch somethjng my kid wants to see. And this isnt it. The kids want to see Wolverine and Deadpool. They want batman and iron man. Our daughters are over marvel and disney and have moved on completely from the IP. I am a mom. I didnt even know that there was a character called Agatha. The only people left that have the time, resorces and intrest to follow Marvel, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings are teenagers and single men 18-50ish with no kids. And one more thing: my gaming friends who are younger only invite me because I cook so I bring food to every session. I make sure they eat, ask them about their day, and encourage them. So yeah....
@Fred-gu6pk yeah... I pass. I get almost all of my entertainment looking at my phone at work. That is why it's weird that they go after single childless men with no kids. They are literally the only people in the US with the freetime and extra money to consume their products. Even then it's like, shit is so expensive even single men don't have the time to watch stuff because they are working overtime, or working two jobs etc. No one is going to explore some fringe character who is the same age as their mom. Besides, everyone knows moms are not cool. AGATHA? Sounds like someone's aunt. Only thing want from women names Agatha is a plate of homecooked food. Agatha= cake and cookies.
Just wanted to add, they did establish rules in the first two episodes. After she's free, it shows her going to drive and realizing her "car" was actually this crazy set up in her dining room. The entire time, she is mostly in her house, wandering around her neighborhood, and not going anywhere - the neighbors have been bringing her food. It has an "I Am the Cheese" vibe where she thinks she's traveling around, when in reality she's just interacting with her home and the people in close vicinity to it.
It feels to me like all of these types of shows were meant to be made in 1999. 25 years ago they still would have been tired and cliche', but to the vast general public would have been a bit edgy. Maybe people would have gone to work and talked about the weird show they watched. Today, they are just "there" as Drinker says. They are just taking up space and taking space away from productions that could be good or even watchable. When will the studios wake up?
HOUSE came and went and I didn't begin watching it until after its TEN year run had ended. And I only lasted for the first two seasons. When a show becomes popular by its third season or so it begins overdoing the "We know we're super popular and here's why" thing. Nothing new can even make it that far because all it is is "The Message".
I often tell people the hardest part of being on a panel like this is when guys like Az and Fringy are just slaying it, I can't add anything to the conversation Just sit back and let the boys cook lol.
The Westview sign at the beginning shows about half the residents it did during Wandavision. So a bunch of people did leave. But this was an economically depressed town, so a lot of people might just not be able to afford to up and leave. Also I don't think the residents ever knew who/what Agatha really was. Sure, she and Wanda had a fight above the town, but they were so high up, nobody would have been able to make out Agatha's face, even with the best binoculars.
The problem I have with the premise - that Wanda's death frees Agatha, as far as I can tell - is that it's already established in the MCU that it's insanely hard to break a dead person's spell, even for cosmic-level characters (as Strange tells Squidward in Infinity War). Am I wrong?
Wanda's death isn't enough to break her out. In the first two episodes, the Teen and whoever Aubrey Plaza is both play a role in freeing her. The Teen (who I assume is Wiccan) has a line about it that might be a little blink and you miss it. That's what his chanting in the "interrogation room" was about. It's partly why she changes her mind about keeping him around.
I love that people were held against their will in Westview, torture included, and after the witch left, they decided to just stay there with the other witch.
Lets hope Chris Gore is right that Marvel are changing direction and shows like Agatha All Along had to be released because the wheels of production had already been set in motion
People don't abandon their homes no matter what a hellscape the powers-that-be make it. After all, San Francisco, L.A., New York, London, and Paris are all still heavily populated. So people in that small town not giving up their real estate but going along with Agatha's magical delusion makes sense.
I don't understand why some ppl give you so much grief over positions or sentiment or w/e. You've been pretty transparent about everything. Made so many videos detailing things out - even a long video about the plane! It's gotta be jealousy and it's gotta be exhausting. Keep up the good work, Kevin!
sounds like they should have pulled an archer, have a season in a different setting where the audience knows its a dream but nobody cares because its an excuse to have the character in a different setting.
What's frustrating is you hear these ideas, and there are so many ways to do it right. Bring in a Crime Anthology director to do the first episode right. Or have Agatha going through the motions and lazily figuring out the plot because she's going through a cable re-run for the 10th time. Or she's in the town and the news got out, so now "tourists" are moving in to live in her "shows" and she doesn't know it.
i swear i'm not making this up, when i was watching the first episode and it got to the bit of the fight at the end, i thought to myself "is she about the lick her face?..." and then about ten seconds later she licked the blood off her hand. I wasnt even thinking about the whole "its the gayest marvel show" nonsense. i think it just came off like the acting/writing was a slight step above porno acting/writing.
This show has an interesting premise but it's kinda ruined by all the cringe moments. I agree that they should have spend more time in detective world with Agatha slowly solving the mystery and regaining her memories. And yeah, her acting was too over the top when she was playing the detective.
@Lemon_Inspector because it is . These rich people are writing off these shows for tax breaks . Plus they are making thier activist friends rich by giving them high paying jobs .
The reason the character of Aubrey Plaza did not kill Agatha is clearly because she still has romantic feelings towards her and feels betrayed enough to want to smack her around for a bit - sticking a single knife point at her heart to show her ways (not accepting Black hearts love) has led her, Agatha, to be not only vulnerable but easily bested. It's kind of like asking why Mr&Mrs. Smith didn't kill one another. . It's pretty obvious.
"Is he really dead" ... now you play the old joke ... the partner takes out his sidearm, shoots the corpse through the head and quips "Now she certainly is!"
Guys, remember, it all happens in a "dream". Do You remember WTF scene when Trininty and Agent jumped over the gap between buildings at the beginning of "The Matrix"?
I honestly already like it better than the Acolyte. The first episode had something a lot of these shlocky shows haven't - self-awareness. That alone is an improvement. Is it riveting? Not yet, but I'm willing to keep with it a bit more and see how it develops. I've liked Kathryn Hahn in a lot of things, and there are other good actors involved. I don't ever want to be in a position where I reflexively hate or dunk on something out of habit. I thought the first two episodes were not bad at all.
Honestly, I mostly found the two episodes I watched to be boring. We got told that Agatha isn't a good person like 4 times. Once for every person broight into the new coven. Then the whole cop thing that went nowhere, and the "do you want to join my new coven? No? Did you know you have personal/money/legal problems that could be solved if you come with me?" times 4, once again for every new coven member (except the neighbour who is going to be a witch in disguise). It is just so... lazy. Why not have a witch or two actually refuse? Why not have one be power hungry who is going along without being forced by circumstances? Why explain to Agatha that others will come for her? And that "the most dangerous" ones will be hunting her first? If they are the most dangerous ones, does that mean it will only get easier from here on out? And that 5 minute song...
Every time I hear the name Agatha I keep thinking of Agatha Christie who wrote all those books with inspector Hercule poirot in them; coincidence? maybe.

They cry actual tears seeing irrelevant c list characters die or seeing something like anakins ghost appear, hyperventilate seeing the most obscure characters ever or seeing baby yoda walk, rate every Disney product as 10/10 and try to feign excitement for mediocre movies like the marvels and madame web simply because it stars women. The most pathetic ones mock people like Star Wars Theory and Nerdrotic and their fans while giving a bunch of ammunition for people hit back them with by cross dressing, having an OF, or letting their wife have an OF. They’re the perfect little Disney consumers. I’m sure they’ll be feigning excitement for everyone’s favorite d list character Agatha and giving the show high reviews.
They watched his Ahsoka video for 2 minutes and stopped because of cringe.
@@Сайтамен
Yeah. It's getting increasingly harder to get through his videos because of the amount of cringe coming from the shills displayed for all to see in his videos. It's pretty rough.
That whole paragraph was a waste of time writing.. They already reacted to Grizzy and even gave him a shoutout.
I'm glad to watch this.
After giving up on 'The Acolyte,' and 'Rings of Power' ... inwardly groaning at these cringe highlights is the best way to enjoy geek pop culture... ...What a tragic state of nerd life...
Dark times. Dark times.
I can’t believe the botched nobodies favorite character Agatha Harkness
Watch The Penguin instead
Agatha was Cringe All Along. We should make our own MCU, with blackjack…. and, h••kers!
Kathryn Hahn is about as funny as finding out your cat has died.
Exactly. And I don't even have a cat
Thank you! I'm glad someone said it they keep putting her in movies like she's funny!! she has NEVER been funny she's as funny as a school bus fire
@@stonerbaby895 She's the female version of Will Ferrell. Every time I see him I want to bang nails into my own head with the phone book.
@@stonerbaby895 She's the female version of Will Ferrell. Nuff said.
So ..... episode 1 of the series is a filler episode? "Bold strategy, Cotton. Lets see how it plays out."
So yeah....
You appear to have missed the epithets, single, wine bottles and cats. On the other none of the panel are qualified that way either.
There's a lot of middle-aged men who like to share this stuff with their kids.
Katharine Hahn was in "Crossing Jordan" long ago, which was a far more dramatic role, and she did well.
Agreed.
She was good as the mom in "The Visit" as well.
Agatha is probably going to be worse than Acolyte but have zero impact bc no one even cares
This basically sounds like Fargo. I still want those two hours of my life back.
I often tell people the hardest part of being on a panel like this is when guys like Az and Fringy are just slaying it, I can't add anything to the conversation
Just sit back and let the boys cook lol.
With this one Drinker could've just said: "It sucks" then his outro and that's it.
The Guardian gave it an enthusiastic five-star review
What they should have done was hype it up as a witches thing and done the whole series as a detective series.
Do you think they have the potential to write a great season long mystery?
@@Tony_409 Not really
There is one accomplishment: It's the cure for insomnia. 😂🎉
For a second I thought that was Rich Evans on the bottom right corner
Is writing really this difficult? They should be paid less, not more, if this is the garbage they keep coming up with.
Nothing would make me watch this.
I might crumble at a few thousand dollars.
The town didn't think Agatha was evil at the end of WandaVision, they correctly think Wanda was the evil witch
Don't mind me, I'm just here for the UA-cam reviews
Lets hope Chris Gore is right that Marvel are changing direction and shows like Agatha All Along had to be released because the wheels of production had already been set in motion
We'll know in 2025.
Chris "I liked she hulk" Gore? That Chris Gore? 😂
No view gang
sounds like they should have pulled an archer, have a season in a different setting where the audience knows its a dream but nobody cares because its an excuse to have the character in a different setting.
Pretty soon, the question on the red carpet will be "who did you scissor with in the show?"
i swear i'm not making this up, when i was watching the first episode and it got to the bit of the fight at the end, i thought to myself "is she about the lick her face?..." and then about ten seconds later she licked the blood off her hand.
I wasnt even thinking about the whole "its the gayest marvel show" nonsense. i think it just came off like the acting/writing was a slight step above porno acting/writing.
Plaza is playing Morgan le Fay.
This show has an interesting premise but it's kinda ruined by all the cringe moments.
I agree that they should have spend more time in detective world with Agatha slowly solving the mystery and regaining her memories. And yeah, her acting was too over the top when she was playing the detective.
AGREED.
Can't play it straight when it's advertised as the gayest marvel series yet
That cringey fucking wink.
As someone currently living in a town with a crazy witch, you may be underestimating what people are capable of tolerating in 2024
Remember back when we got "rap with a silent C"? Well now we've got "Agatha with a silent F".
How do these things get greenlit and financed?
Huge investors, that have an agenda to push and don't need to see the money back.
There's probably money laundering involved. Maybe something like in the film The Producers.
@@hope-cat4894 why do people keep calling embezzlement "money laundering"
@Lemon_Inspector because it is . These rich people are writing off these shows for tax breaks . Plus they are making thier activist friends rich by giving them high paying jobs .
you obviously work for disney
I figured Aubrey Plaza was gonna get linked to being The Shadow King again.
I think I have never seen the "Blue Collar Loser" sober once...
Space lesbian witches
Wrong order... it's Lesbian Space Witches.
Bring on IronHeart!
reads the title : "uh, better than expected."
Thank Critical Drinker for stating what we already knew.
Guys, remember, it all happens in a "dream". Do You remember WTF scene when Trininty and Agent jumped over the gap between buildings at the beginning of "The Matrix"?
So basically like MOST the MCU content since Infinity War then?
I'm glad you used the wink meme, because that's the only reason they had for making this gawd awful series
I actually quite like it compared to many of their other Disney shows
Aubrey Plaza’s character…Aubrey Plaza 😂 fuckin AZ
Ugh. AZ. Maybe the worst panelist on these types of shows.
I hated this show the moment I found out about it
I swear they are just making shows for themselves 😂😂😂Who asked for this show?
Disney is just appealing to their NPC audience that buys without a single thought
What a shame, this show isn't even bad enough to be entertaining to watch mockery of. It just exists.
Skipping this one myself. But they missed the "target audience" as well.
Every time I hear the name Agatha I keep thinking of Agatha Christie who wrote all those books with inspector Hercule poirot in them; coincidence? maybe.
Finally, another upload from you!
You want a good comic book show go watch The Penguin, first episode blew me away.
This sounds like Dark City, but with all the mystery and cool drained out and lesbian witches added in.
