      The person in question has a 'name' modelled after an old anime character.

For example, Square Enix is being bombarded with criticism from Japanese gamers because of the censorship of Dragon Quest. Shinji Mikami also made a statement criticizing censorship in Japan. How many world renowned writers do you think ever need a narrative consultant? Oh, sure I bet that they ask a bunch of people, friends or other writers for advice and go "hey look at this bit for me, what do you think?" Another way to look it is imagine an artist being told how to move their paintbrush and where to paint on the canvas and after they've finished the other guy picks up a brush and starts drawing over the top of their work. You think an artist would accept that when this is their baby and vision? This is why a lot of the time consultation is just in my mind a scam.

    • @Cris-bj7ee
      @Cris-bj7ee 2 години тому +1

      The flip side of that is the logical conclusion to your scenario: the consultant is the one effectively doing all the work, and the employer is little more than a public face and brand. This is how most multinational businesses operate. Leadership of the company is outsourced to one of like three massive consultancy firms, who handle everything from establishing business operations to naming the very CEO. Worse yet, whole countries are starting to operate like that, dumping money into consultancy to cover just about every function, instead of cultivating talent and knowledge internally.

    • @iprasa324
      @iprasa324 Годину тому +1

      @@Cris-bj7ee
      Except that flipside sounds hollow.
      Sure maybe one to idk maybe three times a scam like that might work and produce a masterpiece. Heck I'll even admit that with horrific contracts a specific "consultant" may be forced to never reveal they were the actual reason for any quality in the writing so that time the supposedly renowned writer there gets all the credit but in the long run thats not where the good things tend to come from.
      On the average the great stuff doesn't rely on procedures and set up companies but on a vision and creativity and no amount of planning and consultancy can turn slop into a great success. If that was possible all recent attempts at AAA-subcrition games should have been resounding successes.

    The Best part of this, whole nonsense. is that the consultant Ubisoft used, lists that they worked on Ubisoft Games that aren't named or noted. Now, I understand NDAs exist, but this literally sounds like "Hey, We got this Outside Consultant, who totally is an outside consultant and not someone who is on our pay roll to agree with us!" Like... Seriously... I'm pretty sure that there's a conflict of Interest in here.

    this game is so good that in the main cinematic gameplay trailer, the game's metaphorical "best foot forward", yasukes sword is glitching through the sheath, his horse is gliding around with bugged walking animation, platforms are floating in the air with no access point at all, stairs are not lined up with doorways making entry impossible, bullets are floating every time an NPC fires a rifle because there's a duplicate glitch that creates two bullets every time one is fired so one bullet flies toward the player and another floats in the air forever next to the spot the enemy NPC was firing from, doors are too short for the doorway and thus are floating a foot off the ground, a huge amount of blood forcefully spurts out of an NPC enemy's chest when Naoe just lightly pushes him down with her bare hands, and characters phase through each other constantly during both gameplay and cut scenes. nothing but the best AAAA quality for assassin's creed shadows.

    The thing that really annoys me about this "non-troversy" is just how adamant these people are pushing back against the criticism. Whatever happened to the days when someone can admit fault, promise to do better, and then move on (whether they actually improve is another matter, but not the point here). Instead, these people have exponentially doubled down on their stance, and the one thing I absolutely hate is the use of gaslighting and emotional manipulation to try and make the audience think they are crazy when the audience is the rational one in this argument. The amount of narcissism and contempt for the customer base is truly astounding, and one simple lesson you can take away from all this: never treat your customers like they are idiots. Is it any wonder why this game project has such negative PR?
