    Got my two new Fishband Brilliant GH-100 reels a few days ago, they arrive quickly from China to my surprise. Both reels had no visible flaws as yours did in the paints finish. However, both drags were very stiff and hard to adjust. When I opened the reel, I found that the reel was full of grease but the main gears had none. I cleaned both reels and added a light coat of grease to both carbon fiber drag washers and main gears. This made the drag smooth as silk. The parts diagram included with the reel was not correct for the GH-100 and was for an entirely different reel. I then discover that one reels brake-adjusting wheel was stiff and hard to adjust. I add a drop of oil thinking it would free up the wheel. I put it back together and cycled the adjusting wheel. It freed up the wheel and at setting five, the brake assembly drum fell off inside the spool. (S.O.B.) I was really pissed, but now I laugh about it. Under very close inspection, I discovered at some point someone used super glue to hide the fact the reel was defective. I contacted the seller and they gave me a link to order a replacement side-plate brake assembly for $.01 a penny.
    Before you upgrade to high-speed bearings, try cleaning the stock ones. Blow them clean with compressed air and reel oil. Repeat a few times and the stock bearing work much better.
    I spooled up the good GH-100 with 50-meters of Piscifun 6lb Lunker Braid .06mm diameter. This line is .0025-thousandth of an inch diameter. It is soft and teeny-tiny, I add a 2-gram weight and with the brakes set at 2.2 it cast it about 80ft.using a Tusrinoya 5½ft extra-ultralight (C562UL) rod. However, the XF-50 can do this too. The GH-100 makes it easier because the brakes seem more responsive. But, my XF-50 never fell apart. Time will tell which is better.
    Note: I contacted the seller and explained the Reel Description was not correct. It has since changed. It no longer shows the brake system and does not describe the material used for the frame. There is a difference between the GH-100 and GH-150 pictures. GH-100 has a carbon fiber crank handle and the GH-150 shows a metal handle. The GH-150 is also sold by Mad Mouse it shows the GH-150 brake system and it is different from the GH-100.

      good lord. i think i now need to take mine apart completely to see the insides. the gears doesn't feel like it have no grease... I hope i still got my shimano drag grease somewhere. So you opened both reels up right? were both of them ungreased? I just looked at my schematics and it appears that it is the 150 instead of a 100... I hope to be able to successfully put it all back together. i never liked opening baitcaster reels..
      So now you have one broken while one is working condition. I also hope in time that the reel can hold up.
      I will certainly clean the bearing before getting new bearings hearing about this. I just did so for my XF50 and it's night and day for casting. feels super smooth.

      They are easy to open but do not pry on the case take out the four screws. Three are the same and the one on the bottom of the other side is longer. To free the case taps lightly with your plastic screwdriver handle while wiggling the case and will open. It has two plastic studs that hold it from falling open. Easy peasy
      It looked like your reel has a stiff drag too. I could tell by seeing the drag adjustment star. So it may be a good idea to take a look. You can get a good line counter for $7.50 on AliExpress and they save lots of money in wasted line. (Buy 2), two bags of plastics cost more and they only last a little while. Piscifun ONYX braid is on sale for $5.62 for 274meters and I tie it on without any leader because you do not need one. It comes in yellow, blue, green, white and black. If you have, a BFS large-diameter spool 160 feet of line is all you need unless you hook a Tarpon. Besides it makes longer casts, one spool will reline a reel five times. If you try guessing, good luck with idea. Three spools cost $16.70 and you get 875-meters of line. Hell it costs that much for one spool of Suffix and I like this braid better.

      i like how your 2nd response is now 6/16 lol. you went back in time? :P yeah it was a tad bit stiff. I think i'll take account to drag testing too for future videos for new reels. and i can't find my drag grease anywhere :( time to spend money again!!!!! If i do go braid, i'll definitely get a counter, but now my guesses are pretty good LOL. By the way, i don't see the price nor spool size you have mentioned of the Piscifun. But i got deals for sufix and rapala stuff, still expensive tho...

      Gizmo Carr Today when I was casting my reel it started making a Zoop sound and it started feeling gritty. I went to Cabellas and they confirmed something was wrong and it may be the bearing. They greased it but it didn’t do much. Do you reckon I had a faulty bearing or I messed it up casting too heavy of lures?

  • @herbertgearing1702

    I got one of those a few weeks ago and I was pretty impressed. The brakes are very powerful. The only thing I wasn't a fan of is the composite frame. In my experience aluminum frames last longer, but for light duty - trout, crappie, and river smallies it might hold up well enough for the money. I have been experimenting with the aftermarket ultralight spools for the Daiwa tatula 100. The tatula 100 is 6.9 ozs with the relatively heavy factory spool (17+ grams). I picked up an 11.5 gram sv type spool for it, it isn't the lightest or the shallowest spool available for it but I really love the versatility /range of weights it can handle. I have under 200 in the reel, spool, and ceramic bearings and it will handle 1/16- 1/2 Oz with ease and comes in at around 6.7 Oz.

      I am totally on the same page with you on how i Feel, until i read a comment from Gizmo. Scroll up (or down) and look what he found about his gears not being lubed up nor the Drag discs. Although mine doesn't feel crazy like his, I feel that I should open it up and see what is going on. If this fails on me, I will also go your rout to the Tatula. I am sure everyone would wanna see that done :)

      @rawrfishing  5 років тому

      I don't think it's a feasible thing to do after thinking about it. Especially with a new setup because you never know how far you can actually cast a specific lure. With that said, how much line should you spool onto the reel? Too much means you made it heavier, too less means you screwed up completely and you need to start over, wasting even more line. Also for testing, we push the casting to the limits in some ways. I have shown how many times i backlashed for a reason, we want to see exactly how much brakes we need to use. If you have a terrible backlash... you are donion like a peeled onion!

      On shallow spool it makes little different, example: I want to put 4-5lb 0.17-0.18mm for 50 meter on my Aldebaran BFS, the box said 1 turn handle = 80cm so it will be 5000cm ÷ 80cm = 62.5 turn, you probably miss a meter or two but it doesn't really matter for the shallow spool.
      Mostly I did 60-63 turn.

      It all depends on your jig size and plastic you use, but for the Bass pro shop's glass rod, yes, but the Tsurinoya C472UL is fine as i have used it before with no issues casting. • @rawrfishing
      @rawrfishing  5 років тому

      that is because it's really difficult to say as everyone uses this reel differently. If you will be casting light lures like me, you won't need more than 70ft of line if you think about it. How far can any reel cast 1/32 or 1/16 oz lures? you just need enough to cast your lure at the maximum distance, then add in say about 25% more to buffer for changing lures or snags/snap/cut line from toothy fishes. i know i didn't give you a direct answer, but that's just how it is!

Clean out the stock bearing oil and use high performance bearing oil and it should work even better. Lastly, you can swap out the bearings for either Ceramic Hybrid Bearings or the BFS Air Bearings from Hedgehog Studios!

    What do you think is the benefit of using this vs a open-faced spinning reel?

    • @rawrfishing
      @rawrfishing  5 років тому

      For some it's a style, to me its accuracy for doing under hand casts and low to the water. If u ever look up bfs fishing for trout in japan... you will realize how crazy it can get. Also some folks use this for other styles of fishing like drop shot fishing. Less line twists. Lastly, people also use this for crank baits, I just tend to go to the extreme of casting 1/32 oz put lot of people love to throw 1/8th range lures

    • @roy32006
      @roy32006 4 роки тому

      my first pet peeve with spinning reels is line twist (causing looping around the spool). Thought snap swivels were supposed to help with that. Another is reel wobble from the imbalance of the bail spinning. Baitcast, zero line twist and very smooth, effortless reeling in. My right hand has nerve damage from a neck injury and surgery 3 years ago and my index finger and thumb on my casting hand are almost useless for fishing. I've been casting a baitcaster with both hands, left thumb on the spool (gotta fish, right?), for about a year and can cast most lures further than I use to cast with a spinning reel. I started with a $40 KastKing Royale Legend (which I think is a great reel, esp at $40). There's a version 2 now. I don't know about that one. Then I got a Daiwa Tatula SV TW 103 for $128 at amazon near black friday. Nice reel too. There are 3 reasons for getting a line tangled reel. Once you learn how to use your adjustments, you'll know how to limit overruns and backlashes. My 9 year old is still using a push button spincast reel. When he's ready, he'll go straight to baitcast and skip spinning. Though I didn't know the term for it then, my initial interest in baitcasting was BFS. In my search for that type of fishing, I found youtube"s REEL TEST and discovered he was on the same mission. Been reading reviews like raWr Fishing for the ultimate BFS set up. Though, I may have already found the setup I want. What I already have. I will never ever order anything from AliExpress again.

    I just got the reel but wasn’t sure how much line to put on the spool. So basically I just filled it like a normal reel. Do you know how much line the spool can hold? And how much should I put on it?

    • @rawrfishing
      @rawrfishing  5 років тому

      I also filled it to the top because I don't have a line counter. I think The Reel Test done casts with a lot of BFS lures. It really depends on what weight u want to cast. For instance, if can only cast a lure at 50 ft, no point of putting in 200 ft of line. keep it around 75

      I can careless of spooking fish for this outing as the purpose was to cast, not catch. In addition, i chose a terrible day to do this test. The wind was horrible. However, I have done way more casts than was portrayed in this video. The amount of backlash isn't a lot once it is tuned. With that said, I don't think it is bad as you think. casting 1/16 oz on a baitcaster is no easy task. I can assure you that if you cast things heavier, there are literally no problem. Lastly, if you pay attention, I push the reel to the limits by using least amount of brakes as possible. You can CERTAINLY turn the brakes up WAY more. Again, this was all for testing purposes. If i were to fish, i would tune it properly per each lure. Thank you for watching and dropping a line.

    mine was a piece of junk. after one day the stool stopped turning when the handle rotated. at first the spool only turned when the drag was the tightest. later, it stopped working completely even tho the line guide moved side to side. i took a look inside. holy shit, what a piece of junk. i've been inside a daiwa, shimano and kastking and the mechanism of this fishband gh100 was nothing like them. it was $58 and after shipping and other charges, 66.70. not worth $10

    • @rawrfishing
      @rawrfishing  4 роки тому +1

      I heard it was a hit and miss for them. I totally agree with the internals. I had to apply grease myself since they did a poor job at doing so. it was pretty dry inside. My GH100 still working great today since i took it apart to tune it up.. it now have ceramic hybrid bearings on it as well. Good news is that this reel does work well if it was properly put together, which in turn, have gotten attention of other companies to jump on the GH100 bandwagon. You will see a ton of these reels on the market, but the question is, which one would produce the best quality one out of the box?

      @@rawrfishing I was really pissed the day i wrote that. Still not real happy about it. It worked ok the first day I used it, though I only made about 30 casts as I happened to pass the river while I was out. Then the next day at home, I was just taking a look at it, testing the drag, then all of a sudden the handle locked up. I gently wiggled the handle, pushed the cast release trigger and it finally released, but now the spool didn't turn when the handle freely moved along with the line guide. I took it apart and the main problem was the brass cylinder gear didn't interlock with the large disk gear. That small white plastic yoke looking thing where the 2 springs are wasn't supporting the brass gear tight enough. Also that first day when a press the cast trigger with my thumb. the spool would automatically backlash (no lure on the line) and the line would feed into the space between the spool and the housing and wrap around the spool axle, just a weird thing to happen. I messaged AliExpress that I wanted to return it for a refund. Now I find out the cheapest I can return to china is $30. Now the realization of AliExpress sets in. If what you order doesn't work, you're screwed. They offered (I accepted) half a refund and keep the reel or full refund with return and I pay shipping. What a choice. So I thought to sell the spool on ebay to someone whose reel does work that wants to line a spool of different pound test. And also sell the other parts to make back some loss. But last night I opened it again, thinking maybe it wasn't assembled correctly. With their schmatic I checked for all the parts and there were a lot of differences. I took it apart 3 times to various stages trying a change here and there. Finally I gave up and put it back to it's orginal assembly and tightened the drag as tight as it could go. It's working decently now though I haven't fished with it yet. I don't expect much. If it acts up again, that spool will be on ebay for $20

    • @rawrfishing
      @rawrfishing  4 роки тому

      @@roy32006 yeah i really hate returns there. but I would see if you can negotiate a partial refund instead of full and shipping it back and in return you can give them a better review. Otherwise, write your honest review and tell them how they wouldn't want to help resolve a product issue. I know there are many resellers on AE, so a bad review can hurt small stores! so they would likely work with you or else, they will just be shooting themselves in the foot...

      My GH-100 feels solid and consistent, there are a lot of plastic parts but they all fit snugly together (at least on mine). I own reels costing a lot more that don't seem to be any better made except they use more metal. Now I'm not sure of it's overall longevity or how much use it can take before it starts having problems. I try not to abuse my equipment and all of my reels (some more than 10 years old) are still working fine with just a little routine maintenance.
