They got plea deals. The "getaway driver" only got five years.
In one of their police interviews, one of them asked the detective "so if I say Ty did it, can I go home?" Video CUTS OUT for three minutes (still unaccounted for to this day), and when it comes back on, the guy has suddenly COMPLETELY changed his story and is naming Tucker when he hadn't before.
A detective testified that his superior was feeding these guys lines. At one point, the lead detective (who has since been pulled from the case because of improper conduct), TELLS one of these guys "so I'm going to tell you what happened". And then proceeds to tell them a story involving Tucker that contradicted what they previously said.
All victims in this case say it's not Tucker. Paula is ADAMANT it's not him. What's her motive?
The better question is what's the state's motive for going after Tucker when all the evidence points elsewhere? They didn't even interview April (who the victims said did this) until years later. She (April) left graffiti on the tree house walls the day after the murder, alluding to homicide, and it was painted over. The DNA the state has completely contradicts their story, (victims DNA found on the same knife, same with the mask which only had Rory's DNA on it). Tucker"s DNA nowhere to be found.
Trusting that the state always does the right thing is unwise. Innocent people are convicted all the time when prosecutors prioritize their egos over the truth.

The court wasted a whole day. He said it would depend on the witnesses answers. Prosecution didn't want him to bring in those tapes. Wanted to know what part, exactly, he was going to use. Judge agreed with the prosecution. When it came down to it, she didn't answer his questions in a way he could bring in the tapes.
Since prosecution was already trying to shoot down his bringing in the tapes, they should have had their witnesses ready...if they thought they were going to win that objection. Poor planning on the prosecutions part. & they apologized for it. js

This guy is not dumb for representing himself. If his wife was done paying his attorneys, he had no right to her financial support for his defense, the attorney would have been allowed to withdraw, and hed have been stuck with a public defender that he wouldn't have had a right to being the same person from day to day or then being awake for the whole trial. They can change your appointed attorney day to day and if they fall asleep there's a split in the federals appeals courts about if that is ineffective assistance. His interviews cannot possibly effect the outcome unless the jurors are watching and then when one of them slips up as they tend to he'd have even further grounds for his appeal he's already guaranteed a reversal at if his wife saved that money in cade he needs superstar appellate counsel. The judge improperly participated and gave strategy advice 3 times trying to get him not to ask the same one question in front of the jury. He's doing better for himself than he could reasonably expect from a public defender when they are closer to Havana than Miami in the singlemost deep South point in the US.

    Innocent.
It's shameful that this even went to trial.
The ONLY evidence the state has against Tucker is the testimony of two men who committed this crime. They threw Tucker under the bus to benefit themselves. It's extremely obvious if you watch their interviews.
In one of the police interviews, one of them asks the detective "So, if I say Ty did it, can I go home?" Video CUTS OUT for three minutes (still unaccounted for to this day), and when it comes back on, the guy has suddenly COMPLETELY changed his story and is naming Tucker when he hadn't before. Neither man names Tucker until the detective suggests it.
A detective testified in a previous deposition that his superior was feeding these guys lines. At one point, the lead detective (who has since been pulled from the case because of improper conduct), TELLS one of these guys "So I'm going to tell you what happened". And then proceeds to tell them a story involving Tucker that contradicted what they previously said.
It goes without saying that both of these men lied and changed their stories multiple times.
All victims in this case say it's not Tucker. Paula is ADAMANT it's not him. But for some reason, the state would rather believe the men who attacked Paula than Paula. The other surviving witness was shown a lineup of suspects including Tucker and said it wasn't Tucker.
Why is the state going after Tucker when all the evidence points elsewhere? They didn't even interview April (who the victims said did this immediately afterwards) until years later. April left graffiti on the tree house walls the day after the murder, alluding to homicide, and it was conveniently partially painted over before the detectives investigated it. For some reason, she was never even considered as a suspect.
The DNA the state has completely contradicts their story, (victims DNA found on the same knife, same with the mask which only had Rory's DNA on it). Tucker's DNA is NOWHERE to be found.
Oh, and the victims backpack was found hidden in the air vent of the "getaway driver". Interesting, given that the state's story is that the "getaway driver" (aka Travis Johnson) got "spooked" while Ty and Rory were robbing/murdering and drove away while the crime was happening. It's almost like there maybe WASN'T a getaway driver, and there was actually just two men (Travis and Rory) who committed the robbery, and then left together... like all the evidence (and the reliable witnesses) suggest.
Innocent people are convicted all the time when prosecutors prioritize their egos over the truth.
I really hope the jury holds the state to their burden. There is way too many innocent people in jail. We don't need another one.
