    Nice intro & great information for a productive garden on a budget. I'm with you guys on the treated wood - Urban Alberta Gardener is a lab tech & conducted his own study about 3 years ago. He found no evidence of harmful chemicals migrating into either the soil or the plants. Tons of recent research on this as you mentioned.
    Thanks for making this project so straightforward too (we often forget about the kerf!).

    I have been scavenging thought the internet to find a way to make a simple raised herb garden and I found that your raised garden bed has the simplest design, needs the least number of power tools , least expensive to make, and your explanation is simple and straight to the point. After watching it from start to finish, I feel like i can make it at home. Thank you for posting the video. You have one more subscriber to your channel.

    HI! I wanted to let you know that I followed your video step by step and made myself a planter. Since my husband left I've had the opportunity to flex my creative muscles and practice my independence. Thank you for this. I'm so glad I found your video, your instructions are really easy to follow and you don't over complicate the process. Thank you.

      I’m glad you were able to use this to build it so easily. It’s not perfect but it works. In the future their will be sturdier, and much better builds.

    We dump our container(s) every year into the compost pile and use the compost next season. So with the kitchen scraps, grass clippings, eggshells, coffee grounds, etc., the regenerated/new soil works great. If you use pressure treated and worry about possible contamination simply spread it out on the lawn (topdressing).

    Great tips. I agree with you about pressure treated wood. Just a note: pressure treated wood and regular deck screws have a chemical reaction and the screws can fail. There are special coated (green or brown) screws for use with pressure treated wood. It looks like you used the coated screws but I missed you mentioning it if you did.

    What do you think about spraying the prefabricated cedar raised bed boards with open bottom, from Amazon, with Thompson’s Water Seal? Lining the sides with plastic can be done if needed… signed, patiently waiting…

    You said you used 1"x3"x 8' but it was written 2"x3"x 8'. Which one did you use in the video?

    Thanks for this video. That's all I'm looking for is just a plain elevated bed for my tomatoes. Tired of buying the prefuab one's. They're ridiculously expensive. BTW, nice shirt.

    If I treat common pine with a UV water repellent specific for wood will it last long? I build a dog kennel out of old pallet crate wood and treated it with colort tone exterior solvent based UV wood sealant which has a nice Matt teak finish and it’s out in the harsh Cape Town Sun everyday and it’s holding up great. But my question is would I survive by using it on a raised planter box or garden bed?

    • @GardenObsessions
      @GardenObsessions  3 роки тому +2

      It should be fine and last longer thank normally. Although if you stand to make it permanent redwood or cedar will last forever in terms of gardening. But what you propose should be great for a longer life than regular wood.
