- In this video I’m taking you on a virtual tour through my sawmill shed, And sawmill setup. Going back in time when I started the. Build with a concrete slab. All the way to current day.

A hook and a 5 gallon bucket on the sawdust outlet works great. Its easy to just dump it out side or in a a couple of trash bins to dispose of later.
I’ve seen people do that, and I have tried it myself some time ago.

The only thing I’d do differently is make it a bit bigger. And use something stronger beam for over the biggest opening.

Hook a five gallon pail on your chute to collect the sawdust. I do this and it saves a lot of work.

What if on your back wall you cut out a couple sections above your metal siding and framed out two large doors/windows that where hinged you could open to shovel your saw dust out and load a trailer or tractor bucket. You could open when needed or keep closed when not using. You’ve made a great build. Keep up the good work and ideas!

I'm thinking about getting a saw mill and I know I need a place to put it. Your shed is amazing and exactly what I need to build. I'm heading out tomorrow morning to do some measurement to see if it will fit where I want it to go. Well thought out shed - nicely done.

The only thing I would do is make my shed a bit bigger than my original size.
@@Plankmills wider - longer or both? My wife liked it to and we will start by pricing out the slab. I was just going to put down rock with two concrete "sidewalks" for the mill to roll in and out of, but I think life would be so much easier with the whole thing concreted. Thanks again.

My slab cost between $800-$900
If I remember right it was 35’x 13’

Thanks for sharing. I am currently designing my sawmill shed and many design ideas you have presented will be making it into mine. The bottom metal siding to reduce maintenance is good one. The ability to pull the mill out is also nice. Sliding barn doors is a must. I really appreciated your comments about things you would have done differently, for instance if you had more room, you would have made your addition longer to prevent snow and rain getting in the addition because of its height. I have to mill big hardwood logs that are heavy to be easily handled so I'll be putting in an overhead crane on rollers to move and rotate big pieces. Amongst the thing I haven't figured out is a clean and straight forward workflow for waste slab and finished product in combination of the log deck. I'm also reflecting on a better way to handle sawdust. Your idea of a conveyor is good but maybe there could be something simpler?Again, Thanks sharing an instructive and entertaining video.

For the sawdust I would make a way to remove it through that back wall so you're only moving the pile 2 feet to the other side rather than all the way out of your shop. A little doorway or so. But I'm sure youve thought through every option .

Yes I have thought of that… I probably will make a door out the back wall of some kind.
I also would like to some day have a conveyor belt for the sawdust to fall o to that would carry it out of the building and keep it cleaned out that way.
Or a dust collection system would be nice especially for oak and cedar to keep a lot of the dust out of the air

Very nice ! keeps the snow & rain off things & will allow you to work in out on the mill even in bad weather, I hope to have time to get one built this summer if all goes well :) work smarter not harder that's how I look at improvements like that :))

Just wonder about your sawmill legs, they seem to on the concrete, a suggest would be to put wood blocks under the legs to absorb some to the log impact.

I would build my shed a bit bigger if I did it again. A bit wider and maybe just a bit longer
But if your on a budget just go as big as you can. (More space is usually better.) I like it fairly well, I do think there are a number of things that could be built stronger, but overall it’s a decent little mill for a weekend sawyer.
You've got me fired up to build a shed (tarps are great, if you just want to hold the moisture in). You might consider a dragback system for slabs and boards. Also, for logs the size you're working with the Norwood side rollers might help, so everything can pull out through the end door. Is the log deck set up so you can get your tractor between the beams, if you need to?

Currently I’m using mostly a DJI osmo action camera. Because i recently sold my canon dslr 80d, which I had been using some as well.
And I used to use adobe premiere rush,
But recently I’ve switched over to LumaFusion because I was having problems with the adobe program.
And I like LumaFusion pretty good so far. It had a lot more options and features.

@@Plankmills hi just wondering why that particular mill…there’s a lot to choose from these days on just about everything so I scanned thru your videos to c if I could find any information about the mill.
Initially I was going to buy a timber king, now I wish I would have.
And When I bought this one in the beginning, I went together with a friend to buy it.
And actually had to borrow some of the
Money,
I guess it sounded like a good mill, they have a lot of their own parents on their mills. And it was a more affordable option.
I’m glad I went with it over most of the brands. I did like it quite a lot, but I do think a few other brands are better, like cook’s saw manufacturing, Woodmizer, and Timber king.
This is one of the better sheds I've seen. I've had my mill 3 years and still no shed. You've given me some things to dream about. Nice job.
How does your jig work for flattening slabs?

What sort of wood did you use? Did you used the same for posts, frame and siding?
The frame is mostly red pine, and the siding is mostly white pine.

I would recommend most species of pine other than red pine though, it’s not the best for building because of how fast it rots, but that’s what I have a lot of where I live, so I use it.
@@Plankmills Ok, thanks. I’m considering buying an LT15 to making my own beams and siding for a 2 car garage I’m building this year. It would be for practice as I want to build a Scani style house here in the UK. And of course I would already have the mill.
